We got hammered with 12" of snow here the other day & couldn't wait to put the Ego snow blower to the biggest test so far.
We are pleasantly pleased to say the Ego 56v snow blower chewed up the snow & spit it out like a pro!
After chewing through the 12 inches of snowfall, we tackled a 2 foot snow drift that formed in our wind tunnel driveway.
After pushing through with the initial pass, we took 1/4 & 1/2 passes til we got it done.
In case you couldn't tell, we are overly happy with our purchase of the Ego 56v 21 inch single stage snow blower.
    The bottom line:
I have been using snow blowers for decades.
The Ego 56v snow blowers handled deep snow, 12"+ & a 2 foot snow drift just as well or better as any gas snow blower I have ever used.

Great review! I am in Detroit and my 20 year old snowblower struggled with that storm from a few weeks ago. My neighbor has an Ego snowblower and he thought the snow we got wasn't an issue for him. He didn't get any bad drifts like I did. After seeing the Ego cut through your drifts, I am a true believer.

I've been watching these Ego's for quite awhile, and comparing them to other cordless snow blowers. I wanted the Ego, because I already have the leaf blower and grass trimmer (I love 'em both). When it came down to crunch time being early Nov., I found your reviews. That was the deciding factor to go ahead and order one from Wal Mart. The 1 foot of snow showed me that it should be worth the money, as well as the availability of spare parts should I break something (later on). Thanks for a great review. Well done!

Thanks for a great review! I'm 77 and we got hammered in NJ last year so looking to get a battery powered blower to handle at least 8 inches of snow (I'll give up and pay for the expense of a professional on the higher stuff) but this unit looks awesome at least for the light fluffy stuff. In NJ if you don't move it fast somehow it turns into heavy wet stuff which this might not handle so well but I'm impressed on the light stuff. Fantastic review .... thanks again!!

    • @RCInsiders
      @RCInsiders  2 года назад +2

      Awesome D!!
I hope at 77 I am still doing snow removal :)
We had a lot of different types of snow last season & this EGO did great all year.
I was a little skeptical in the beginning about a battery powered snow blower, but it did just as good or better than my old gas craftsman blower.
I actually get excited to do the snow now & my don't mind either. It's also about 50% easier maneuver than a gas blower.
I was so happy with the EGO snow blower that my kids got me a ego lawn mower for my b-day.
I only wish that I had decided to go battery earlier. Couldn't be happier to be rid of the gas, oil, stink & fuss!

I kind of think I'll will have to "manhandle" the end of the driveway (the gas blowers are just too strong for me to control not to mention the maintenance and storage issues, lol) but just wanted to know your experience. @@dthomas4501 No problem!
The end of the driveway was no problem, depending on how long I let it go & how warm it got and then how cold overnight. If I got right on it it was no problem. If I got lazy & let it melt & freeze then there was a shovel with my name on it! :)

So I've been researching and almost pulled the trigger last night on this guy, but wanted to do further research on gas powered blowers. The guy from Ace told me I'd spend a lot of money for batteries as they look to run $350 per battery, but should last between 5-7 years. I'm not sure what I think about that. Gas powered seems to be more of a pain to maintain, but should last longer if properly maintained. I'm seriously considering this unit especially after watching your video. The other unit I was looking at was an Arians compact gas blower.

    • @RCInsiders
      @RCInsiders  2 года назад

      Hey Greg,
At the end of the day I was just so sick of smelling like an oil refinery & all the hassle of getting gas in a can, constant maintenance & almost always fighting to start my gas unit.
I actually look forward to doing the snow now. This blower is light & easy to push.
It's so quiet compared to my gas unit that I could probably run it at night & no one would even hear it.
The batteries are about 250 on Amazon - amzn.to/3nh0SlU
You can also get off brand batteries for a lot cheaper but don't come with the EGO 3 year warranty.
If I get 5 years out of it, that's a bout 50 bucks per year. I'll call that a win to say good bye & good riddance to my old stinky gas unit 😃
I would consider this the best purchase I've made in years.
Do you get a lot of snow?
I usually do all of mine & 2 neighbors front walks & still have about 25% juice left.

@@RCInsiders I’m in central PA so we usually get a couple good storms a year, usually at least one good snowfall over 20”. I’m tired of using the old shovel to get myself out of my driveway, plus the older I get the less I want to be out there with a shovel. Yes, I thought the batteries were 7.5 ah, but looks like they are 5.0 ah, which are a little cheaper. The guy at Ace last night tried to talk me out of going with a battery powered unit, but seeing how well it seems to do makes me really rethink things. My driveway is not very big and I usually do the sidewalk, then hop over to my neighbors house to do her driveway since she’s older. I’m sure this unit would be able to do all of that. Your video was quite impressive. I was looking at their 2 stage blower as well, but that one does not seem to get as good of reviews and seems to have some issues so I’ll probably stay away from that one. I do like the fact that it is so light. I was pushing it a little at Lowes last evening and it definitely would not be intimidating if my wife ever had to use it. I do believe I may give this one a try. Thanks for helping me out with that decision! :)

@@gmartin34341 I’m not sure what reviews you are seeing on the 2 stage but the videos I’ve watched show it tearing through snow no problem and a very impressive throw distance. The one issue it had was the chute not being secure and sometimes turning on its own but Ego addressed this issue last season very quickly.
My recommendation ,if money is a major issue, is first see if you can get yourself a refurbished unit. That is what I did 4 years ago. I paid 420 for it with the quick charger and 2 5 amp hr batteries.
Other than that, go with the new single stage with the metal auger.
I’d also like to add, look at the Toro unit as well. It is a very solid machine. The only real issue I see with it is the chute control rod, it is stupid short for some reason.

This was fairly wet snow. It was around 29 degrees & sun was out melting the snow. Other than your big 2 stage blowers, the end of the driveway is usually a little difficult. I would usually shovel some of it especially when its all ice & compacted.

Awesome video! I have been using only shovels with Canadian snow. This year I think I finally go with a blower. I have all the Ego lawn tools so I was looking up Ego snow blowers.
I couldn't really figure out in your unboxing video but is your model SNT2112 ????
My property is not that big, so I assume the one with 7.5ah batteries might be an overkill even though that will be much more helpful and quicker than the ones with 5.0ah. My area does get snow accum like you had in your video. I was shovelling all that and my neighbors' sidewalk. it was so hard but kinda good excercise lol Now that I work on day shift, I will need to clear the snow as fas as I can in the morning. thanks for your video. very helpful.
Update: ok so I could see the model# in your unboxing video. it's the rubber auger version. as you also had a link for the steel ver. I was a bit confused. I was a bit skeptical with the rubber auger would do well with thick and wet heavy snow. thick fluffy snow seems fine with this blower as you showed.

      Hi.
Yeah I used to think of it as exercise, but the older I get the more I think of it as a back ache 😅
I started to dread doing the snow but now I actually enjoy it 😀
I am pretty close to the border here in MI so we probably have similar weather if you're near there.
Through the season we had quite a variety of snow & I had no issues doing the snow.
It's light & very easy to use. I often times get home to find my wife already has it done :)
I added the link to the steel auger as a lot of people were asking if EGO made one,

In theory, these things seem great. I don't see myself getting one though. That high pitched whine would absolutely drive me insane. Then there's the batteries that are a minimum of $250 and for the ones that will provide more run time and power, $450. And when those batteries are dead and you trash them, they're really, really nasty due to the chemicals inside them. To cap it off, there's the dubious "green" aspect since there's about a 75% chance that the juice to run it comes from a coal fired power plant. Plus, with a gas unit, yes it will need maintenance, but that also means that you can rebuild it if the engine gets tired. With an electric, you throw it away and get a new one. Again, more cubic feet of crap in a landfill somewhere.

You sound like you work for the gas blower industry 😅 Be honest buddy...Do you?
This snow blower is so quiet I can use it at 4 am when I get up for work. I will any take the steady purr of a brushless motor over gas where you need ear plugs or go deaf.
I spend hundreds of dollars on gas & oil products a year to keep a gas unit going.
Name brand batteries are around 200 bucks & generic 100 or less & people are getting 7+ years out of batteries. If in 7 years I gotta drop 400 on batteries its still way better than the 1500 - 1700 I would of spent on oil/products & gas.
Lets not forget also the comfort factor...I actually enjoy using this snow blower!

@@RCInsidersI don't shill for anyone or any industry, what I do is look at all aspects of things before making purchases.
All I have to go off of is the piercing high pitched whine I hear in the video. If you watched the video, I don't see how you could not hear it. It sounds like a helicopter turbine. I'm not going to clear my driveway at 4 am no matter what kind of machine I have, but if that's your situation and it works for you, that's great.
I use a snow blower maybe 3 or 4 times a year, so I couldn't spend hundreds per year to operate one if I tried. Maybe $25. I don't usually get heavy, wet snow until March or April and I don't need a snowblower for 3 inches of powder. LAst year, I got a bit over two feet of heavy, wet snow in mid March. My gas single stage wasn't going to tackle it, so I just went at it the old fashioned way. I don't want to spend $1500 on something I might use once every 5 years, which is about how often I get that kind of snow. I'm a little over 6000 feet, and at my elevation it's usually more powder.
As for batteries, even a cheaper generic one is full of Mercury, Thallium, Cadmium, Lead, Cobalt, and Lithium. Not only do I not completely trust companies that recycle them, but the conditions and hazards that people are exposed to in the mining of specifically the Cobalt, can be horrifying. Not all of it of course, but you have no way of knowing where the material really comes from. Somebody driving 5 miles to work in their car is polluting as much as my gas machine, so yes it does put out some emissions, but not enough for me to think that it offsets the nasty stuff in a battery potentially leaching into the environment when it quits taking a charge. Or the effects on the land and the people that produce the chemicals.
Enjoyment is subjective, and if you enjoy your machine, that's great. Dreading a chore isn't fun.
And I still don't buy into the "green" aspect because even if the machine itself doesn't put out any emissions, the power plant that makes the electricity to run it most likely does.
"Different strokes" seems to apply here, just like with everything else. Stay warm.

    • @RCInsiders
      @RCInsiders  2 года назад +1

@@papawoody9597 Yes I get your points. At the end of the day nothing is "GREEN" unless your walking & clearing your snow with your hands, Same goes with your grass. Even a shovel or push mower had some environmental impact.
The sound you hear is a brushless motor & it is very quiet. Yes, you can & I have used it at 4 am before work with no complaints.
All your points could be made about everything in your life.
Look around you. Everything came from something.
At this point I have no desire to operate gas lawn equipment ever again.
Loud & stinky are relics & I'm overly happy to be done with them :)
