    It goes without saying that yachts are purchased by wealthy people, but why would somebody who has made the accumulation of wealth their focus for so long suddenly make a decision to buy an asset that some refer to as a "hole in the water that swallows money"?
    Here are three reasons why...

    I pass by Utopia IV every day on my drive home from class at University of Miami, it’s a huge motivation for me. So buying a yacht for me will likely be a way of confirming with myself that I’ve become successful to the level that I can afford an incredible luxury like a yacht

  • @markuswunsch

    Especially 1 and 2 were reasons for me to become a liveaboard 😊
    Hence with regards to loosing money I’d say it really depends on how you see things as there is obviously no direct return from the yacht itself but the mental health and other positive side effects of being on the water are invaluable and can pay huge dividends to any business owner.
    Speaking of me personally that definitely holds true and - along with some other changes - already benefited my startups.
    This said, I now got my eyes set on a 20 year old Perini with an interior designed by the genius Christian Liaigre…

    Hi David, loved the video!!! I can also tell a big difference in the sound quality. The new gear and location is definitely paying dividends!!! The mic makes you sound like a professional radio dj!!! If I may be so bold, I would highly recommend some absorption panels on the walls to reduce the room reverberation, and placing a de-esser in your software to reduce the harsh S and T frequencies. Love the channel, Keep up the great work.

    Nice discussion David. While I agree with the three reasons you gave, I would have to add another reason-exploration. It’s the primary reason I think the expedition class has taken off in recent years. Paul Allen didn’t build Octopus to sit near the beaches in the Caribbean, he built it for exploration. Much like some of the other owners of these amazing explorer types. Then again, I may have put my own bias on this selection, as it would be my reason for owning a yacht if I could afford it. I love traveling off the beaten path, and for me no better place than the water to do it. My dream is to travel through the Pacific and the Ring of Fire” and see everything in it. Then head to the arctic and Antarctic regions.

My Grandfather took my brother and I to one of these courses the three of us attended this series of training sessions. The price was minimal and gave a good start to your future boating adventures.

    Look at the upcoming Heesen Akira. It's the most beautiful yacht design put to paper in my eyes. It's proportions and balance are flawless. At 57 meters, it's not a giant but it's certainly a SUPER yacht.

      The answer you are looking for is quit simple really. Just create a product or service that enough people are willing to pay you for.
      But if that fails or you don't have enough talent to be successful in the private sector, then get into politics to lie and cheat your way to wealth.

    Actually, David, _you_ may mostly deal with the people who can afford multiple homes and car collections and everything you talk about, but that's simply not every yacht owner. There are many people who are either determined enough boat people that they buy a yacht the way they would buy a house, and then live aboard full time; or who love yachting enough to put all of their "pleasure money" into it, and save for the yacht of their dreams.
    Most people can afford one significant luxury if it's all they want and they build their lives around it, even if they're never so wealthy that they can afford to casually own whatever catches their eye. I know your own company has sold some yachts for less than seven figures, because I've looked at the asking prices in its listings. That's not out of reach for many people who are prepared to sell their home and move aboard full time, still less if they join forces with another family and do it together. I understand that you largely work within the high-market end of what's already an expensive industry, but please don't forget the existence of those of us who substitute a lavish amount of passion and a bit of money for a lavish amount of money and a bit of passion.

    • @grondhero
      @grondhero 2 года назад +1

      As someone who falls into the "not rich" category, all the reasons David listed work for me as well, so he didn't overlook me.

    • @norarivkis2513
      @norarivkis2513 2 года назад

      @@grondhero It's not that the reasons he gave don't work. It's everything he kept saying about how "If you're thinking of buying a yacht, you probably have all these other things already..." e.g. you probably have multiple homes and a luxury car collection and all that. Um, no, not necessarily. Nor is any of that necessary to want to relax and get out onto the water, as you point out yourself.
      So there's not really any need to throw it in. It doesn't make any of the reasons more essential -- they're true about anyone who loves boats enough to put the money they do have into spending their time on one, whether that's a huge amount or a medium amount. All it does is to reinforce the concept that if you _don't_ have multiple houses and luxury car collections, you don't matter to David.

    • @grondhero
      @grondhero 2 года назад +1

      @@norarivkis2513 You're creating a biased response based on false facts.
      He started out explaining how he's looking to buy his own yacht, and the first person he spoke to originally bought a 25 foot boat. Your inaccurate portrayal of "It's everything he kept saying about how 'If you're thinking of buying a yacht, you probably have all these other things already...' " didn't even come up until _after_ he'd listed all three reasons, pointing out that the people that have all these items, still go for a yacht because of what it can do for you.

    • @norarivkis2513
      @norarivkis2513 2 года назад

      @@grondhero If you want to believe that, go ahead. Everyone has their own interpretation and I'm not interested in fighting with you.
      The facts are that the first mention of "... you might have a beautiful house; you probably have several beautiful houses, if you're a yacht owner. You can stay in the best hotels -- and probably again, if you're a yacht owner, you spend a lot of time in hotels," comes at about 2:28, in the discussion of reason #1. It hardly "doesn't even come up into after all three reasons." But it doesn't really matter; what matters is that different understandings of his words can exist, and a good salesperson would want to know if their words were leaving people -- especially potential clients -- feeling shut out.
      Either David meant to shut out anyone who wasn't supremely wealthy -- which I don't really think he did -- or he'd want to know that that's how he sounded to some people, so that he can be more conscious of the way he chooses his language next time. Knowing him to be a good salesman, I think the second is more likely, so I told him what it had sounded like to me. Trying to shut down such information because you take it for criticism doesn't actually do David, or any serious salesperson, any favors.
