Hui-yuan and other early masters of Pure Land believed that achieving the liberation of nirvana through a life of monastic austerity was too difficult for most people. They rejected the "self-effort" emphasized by earlier schools of Buddhism. Instead, the ideal is a rebirth in a Pure Land, where the toils and worries of ordinary life do not interfere with the devoted practice of the Buddha's teachings. By the grace of Amitabha's compassion, those reborn in a Pure Land find themselves only a short step from Nirvana. Fort his reason, Pure Land became popular with laypeople, for whom the practice and the promise seemed more achievable.

Armitofu Is a powerful high Buddha that existed before many Buddhas. He is not from this world so no worldly record
His power is so great that human cannot imagine.
I have a scripture book that says Western Pure Land is a very beautiful place. The ground is paved with gold dust and there are countless crystal ponds of myriad colours. Birds of different species in different colours . Greeneries, trees and flowers. The whole atmosphere is enveloped in natural celestial music.

Hello Rock, Bodhisattva is real just like Buddha. However, Bodhisattva is very much different from God. Bodhisattva is anyone who is working to service others and no longer think about serving the ego, the me or mine.
In other words, if you wanted to understand the essence of Buddhism, to express in 2 words, that is "NONE SELF", normal people would always about themselves, that is why there is suffering, to become Boddhisattva is to always think about how to serve others and forget about yourself,
You could practice to become a Bodhisattva yourself by always thinking about 1 and 1 thing only from now on, that is to be in service for others. Strangely when you do that Rock, you will eventually be more happy. It is difficult at first when you try, but don't give up my friend :)

Salvation in Buddhism? I think that's not the really teachings and mission of Buddha.
Buddha teachs that the way of enlightenment and liberation, it's in own practices, follow the Dharma, meditation and have the precepts of Buddha's thoughts and teachs.
      Faith it's not the way.

@@surendrasharma1798 Yes, this person betrays the true Pureland Buddhism...Jodo Sinshu. Amida Buddha is a real being, and Amida's Pureland is a real place in which all karmic barriers to buddhahood are removed. Amida is not to be reduced to an esoteric concept of pure consciousness. He is interpreting Jodo Shinshu through the eyes of a Zen Buddhist. Shinran essentially taught that salvation, not enlightenment, occurs twice; first through shinjin, or the diamond of faith, and second, at the moment of death, when each one will be reborn in the Pure land of Amida and become a Buddha. Buddahood cannot be attained in this degenerate world due to eons of karmic damage which pervades every aspect of our existence.

Eric Radle you can say it a variety of ways! In Japanese it’s “Namu Amida Butsu,” in Mandarin it’s “Namo Amituofo,” in Vietnamese it’s “Nam Mô A Di Đà Phật,” and in English it’d be something like “Hail to the Buddha Amitābha/Amitāyus.” Chant the nembutsu in whatever form you want, but I recommend joining a Pure Land temple/sangha and chanting the nembutsu however your sangha chants it.

Sincerely repent, accumulate merits and return to the grievances and creditors. Make a sincere vow and rely on the blessing of Amitabha Buddha's power; if you can keep your mind off and keep your mind still, it corresponds to the great vow of Amitabha Buddha, and you feel Amitabha Buddha's reception and guidance. To really believe, really wish! Only by listening to the scriptures, listening to the Dharma, and understanding the scriptures and teachings clearly, can one generate faith and aspirations, and only then can one be reborn. Therefore, the merits of listening to the scriptures and hearing the Dharma are incredible.
If you are famous, you will receive the blessing of Amitabha Buddha (the eighteenth great vow). All initiates must read and understand the Sutra of Infinite Life.

Humanist you can either accept Amida’s Pure Land of Sukhāvatī as a physical place where we’re reborn when we die, as I do, or see the Pure Land and the many hell-realms as states of mind and conditions during our life on Earth. Both positions are accepted, at least by my school, Jōdo Shinshū Honganji-ha.

Hi Alan, I'm not sure how long with Buddhism, but one of the unique of
Buddhism is that there are many dharma door for liberation. But
generally speaking, there are 2 basic methods, one is to reply on
oneself's cultivation of Precept,Samahdi (mediatation), and Wisdom. This
method is practiced in the time of Buddha by the Buddha and his
students. However, it can not be used for the mass as it is not
everyone's method, especially this is a time of dharma ending time when
most people running after materialism and craving.
The second method of cultivation is a unique method on its own since
it does not relies solely on practitioners' ability to cultivate but
also with the help of the Buddha. Please be aware that Gautama Buddha
refer to the pure land MANY TIME in mahayana sutras, 2 of the most
famous sutra are Amitabha Sutra and The Infinite Life Sutra. So if
you're a serious Buddhism researcher or cultivating practitioner, then
please go ahead and read it.
Secondly, the main purpose of chanting Buddha's name is not to
achieve enlightenment in this life time even though I know there are
some Master who achieve Great Samadhi by chanting Buddha's name. For
most people, there are 2 stages, the first realistic goals which is
critically important stage is to be rebirth in Amitabha Buddha's Pure
land by just mastering Faith, Vow and Practice chanting. the second
stage is that once you're rebirth in pure land, you can then SAFELY
continue the path to Perfect Enlightenment with ease because you are
nurtured in a cultivating environment with the help of Buddha and sages
