“Stop saying ok” LOL … that was SO funny!
🤣 I know! I was laughing at myself at this point. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, and for a good couple of minutes I just hovered over the piles 😆
I wonder what 4 bags would look like 😀 Nice for doing two.
I have done four bags now, you can see what it looks like at the end of that video 😃. I wouldn’t mix four bags, but I would consider mixing three! It was tough mixing two though so i’d have to really think about that! 😁
Thank you for watching!
Yay!! A video from the best puzzle channel on RUclips!! All is right in the world now!!
😃
Thank you Matt!
I see you are still a unicorn!
Hot dog!!!! A great surprise for sure. Just what I needed after a very busy day at work. A Vicky video! THE very best puzzle channel. There’s no need to explain why there was a bit of time from your last video. Taking care of two children and a home is in itself a lot of work. Plus building this enormous puzzle and editing the filmmaking plus camera angles and just finding the time to do all that must be exhausting. I just happy to so throughly enjoy all your hard work. Thank you!
Thank you so much Ruth. You are lovely and kind to say so. It is a lot of work, but I do love doing it so it’s always worth it. I know everyone understands about life taking over and keeping me busy, but I wanted to thank you all; people were genuinely wanting to know if I was ok, which is lovely 😍.
Thank you so much as always for watching, and for your lovely lovely comment. ❤️
Ooooo...been waiting! Excited to watch you build this puzzle!
Thanks Lisa! It’s been so much fun, but it takes a while 😊
Wow wow wow. Brave lady you went for it! Fab stuff 👍🧩
Thank you Shirl! 😍
It’s looking great Vicky, nice to see you back.
Thank you so much! Great to be back 😍
I’m so excited for the next part!
Thanks! I’m getting there slowly 😊
Great to see you back!
Thank you! Great to be back 😍
Besides the vicarious fun of watching the magnificent build I feel I learn something every time you talk through problem-solving strategies. There are now two puzzles on the go at our house - the combined result of a week-long visit from two sisters-in-law who got hooked on jigsaws while they were here and a partner who bought some rather difficult images because he wants to frame them! That BetterCo Purple Succulents is still on the basement table, about 3/4 done. It’s been taking months because I keep doing other projects and coming back to it. Upstairs on the dining room table is Galison’s Bees In The Poppies (eventually destined for a bedroom wall).
Both of these are “bitty” (earworms on the topics of tiny spiders and spotted swimwear came to mind when you gave that word as a description 😂). In both, but especially the BetterCo, the image poster as a grid map is a more critical tool than in other puzzles I have done. There are several individual pieces as well as assembled bits of 2-5ish placed and oriented in approximate positions… definitely slow going!
I’m curious as to what thoughts you have about working through that kind of challenge or if you’ve talked about that in other builds I should go back and watch. Thanks so much!
Yay, fantastic progress. Missed your videos xx
Thank you so much! I missed putting one out, I don’t like missing so many weeks.
So glad you enjoyed it 😍
When I do puzzles, though I haven't really paid attention to whether it's Educa specifically (but it probably is), I do end up with pieces that don't belong together still getting stuck together.
I try to peel them apart gently in the direction that, if anything gets damaged, it's the back of the pieces. So yes, I have quite a few pieces from several puzzles that are missing the bottom most layer of cardboard on the prongs. - It's not as noticable, but it is still frustrating all the same.
So it's not just a problem with this puzzle specifically.
That being said. 2 bags. Phew. That is a lot of pieces! It's looking really good though!
It has happened to me with other puzzles, but I have never had quite this much trouble trying to get them apart without damage. I think it’s the shape of the gaps and prongs, a lot of them are sort of hooked. I have damaged maybe 2 or 3, so it could have been a lot worse, but the sheer amount of them that got stuck was sooooo frustrating.
Thank you for the advice on taking them apart so that potential damage ends up on the bottom. That’s a good idea. And thank you so much for watching! 😍
You are doing great, very brave mixing those 2 bags together ❤️
Thank you so much!
It was scary mixing them, but I don’t regret it now 😍
Great video and so glad to see you back! Loving this series, I can’t wait to see part 2 of this video. ❤
Thank you so much! It felt good to be back.
I’m getting there slow but sure, it’s still coming together 😍
A great video. Thank you for your detailed explanations of how you do your puzzles. I find your strategies very helpful when I am puzzling.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you find my strategies helpful 😍
Thank you for watching 😃
Your reaction when you mixed the two bags in the beginning was hilarious hahaha. Love the progress on this! I would be so discouraged and overwhelmed by it 😂. Good job!!
😆 It probably seemed a bit like I was hamming that up, but I was genuinely nervous about mixing them. When it came to doing it, my hands just hovered over the piles like they had wills of their own and were not for moving! 😂
Thanks for watching and for your lovely comment as always! 😍
@@Vickymakesandbuilds I would be more than nervous to mix them, I would be terrified 😂😂
beautiful puzzle
Thank you so much! 😍
Hello Vicky, i remember that moment when you had to decide whether i would mix the bags or not. I was so crazy i mixed all 10 bags. I have not looked back. It was so much fun to puzzle this beautiful motive with so many details of animals, flowers and nature. It took about 6 years to finish it. Two parts have been lost, but i reordered them from educa. I hope the puzzle-parts arrive from spain. And then i must look for a place for this giant puzzle. I wish you a lot of fun with this wildlife-puzzle and thank you for your great videos! Greetings from germany!
Greetings from the UK!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I have nothing but complete admiration for any who mix all 10 bags. My brain shies away from the astronomical sorting that would involve. I’m working my way up with mixing pieces, the most I’ve mixed and built is 9k. I want to try mixing a 13k and then an 18k and keep moving up from there. We’ll see how far I get!
I really hope you get your missing pieces soon and find somewhere to display that awesome puzzle - it is truly marvellous!
If you have a minute, go and check out the channel Puzzling in 2 Worlds - he bought that puzzle already mixed - I bet he would really appreciate your comment and advice on it! 😃
Maybe a stamp collector's tweezer where you can hold one stuck piece and it won't damage the image like a regular tweezer would, then try to release the other piece carefully.
Good idea Betty. Someone else had an idea to use a pointy implement of some kind to gently push it out, like a knitting needle or something like that. I might try it for the next bag!
So great to see you post. Wow, what a great job you’ve done tackling these sections! I was willing you not to mix the sections but, you’ve made great progress assembling it! I love seeing it come together. The images on the puzzle are so incredible. Way to go! ❤❤🎉
Thank you so much! It is coming together well, there are just so many details on the image, that it’s not always easy to see the progress. 😍
I hear you on not mixing the bags. I think my hands didn’t want to move and were overriding my brain! 😆
Lol loved the part of mixing them, reminds me of how I can stand for ages in front of the water, trying to get enough courage to face the cold 😂
Excited to watch the rest now, I’m a bit late to the video.
Hiya! Yes the mixing was a feat on its own - I was so nervous about it! 😆 I’m glad I did though 😍
Very happy to see a video from you again! :3 Also, I just can't really fathom doing such a huge jigsaw to start with... My tip for the times you don't feel like you've done progress - take pictures at the end of the day, and then just look at those. If you easily see a visual difference of the state the jigsaw is at, that shows you're doing a great job, even if it doesn't feel like it.
Great idea! I obviously do take a lot of pictures over the course of building and filming a puzzle, but I don’t necessarily take a picture of the whole thing after every puzzling session. I think it’s because, with the big ones, I have to climb up on a chair or something to get it in the shot 😆
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😍
Lovely to see you back :)
In the interim, I took your advice and have been meaning to thank you... On your recommendation (I asked once for a Clementoni comparison, and you went to great lengths to compose an incredibly detailed reply) I bought an Educa puzzle for the first time. And I absolutely loved it! You were spot on re the pieces, the fit, the texture, the quality etc.
Only downside is I now want more Educa. Lots more!
Thank you Alix!
I’m so glad you tried an Educa. As much as they have their quirks, I really do love Educa puzzles. I cannot fault the images, they are just so amazing.
Wanting more puzzles of any brand continues to be a problem for every puzzler out there I think! 😆
You can never have enough puzzles, that’s what I say 😊
Welcome back, Vicky ! Seeing your video pop up this evening was certainly a nice surprise! I would have enough trouble tackling one bag with these many pieces--kudos to you for being brave enough to mix together two bags at the same time. I love seeing the puzzle come together; it's a great image. Happy puzzling from California!
Thank you so much Ed!
It took a lot to mix them, but I’m glad I did in the end 😍
It really is a rewarding puzzle and image to see come together.
Thanks for the happy puzzling wishes - back at you from Scotland 😃
@@Vickymakesandbuilds Thank you for the wishes from Scotland. If family lore is correct, I haven't been there (in one form or another) for almost 200 years now... ;)
I'm still thinking of a game plan to tackle this one. first I was thinking 1 bag, than mix 2, mix 3 and than the final 4 bags mixing. but maybe I go for 3bags, 4 bags and 3 bags. your videos help a lot to assess the dificulty of the puzzle!
My game plan keeps changing with this one! About the only thing I’m certain of is that the two end sections will be done as single sections. I have hummed and haa’ed about mixing 3 or more bags, but I think I will stick with a maximum of two. If I did 3 I would have to do it on foam boards rather than the big board as it just wouldn’t fit.
I wish you all the best with your puzzle and I hope you get your game plan together soon 😍
If I may hazard a guess, I think the reason why you have so many pieces stuck together is due to the weight of the bags inside the box. The bags at the bottom of the box are being compressed and that's how pieces end up getting wedged together. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about that.
My best tip to get pieces unstuck is to use a pointy but not too sharp object like a knitting needle to push one of the pieces out from the top or bottom to separate them. Pushing a piece from the bottom is safer as any damage will be on the bottom side where it is not visible but the other piece may get damaged in the process. The proper method depends how the pieces are attached so you'll need to experiment and find out what works best for you.
Hope this helps.
Hiya!
I think you could well be right about the weight of the pieces causing that. I hadn’t though of that, but certainly bags at the bottom of the pile would be under a lot of pressure, so that would make sense!
I will try what you have suggested. I believe I have some knitting needles somewhere so it might be useful to have one nearby when I’m sorting the bags for this puzzle! Another person also suggested that separating them a certain way so that any potential damage would be on the bottom might be a good idea. I will bear that in mind also in the future.
Thanks so much for watching and for your helpful suggestions 😊
Great work! Glad to see your new video. When I see you do this puzzle i have to trink of the guy who bougt this second hand all mixed together. That seams impossible.
Yes, Russell! That is going to be an epic feat. It’s the monumental sorting effort that really makes me shudder when I think about that 😳
Aside from the heroics of dragging those bags together *eeekk* I do think we could have done with one more 'okay' ;)
😆 yeah! I started to annoy myself after a while keep saying “okay!” I really did have to talk myself into it though, and my hands were really reluctant to move 😍
I don’t regret it though, so that’s good!
Thanks for watching 😊
Hello Vicky. I can imagine how you felt deciding if you should mix the 2 bags together. I'm not sure if you have the Ravensburger 18,000-piece Tropical Impressions. The puzzle looks like you are looking out a window with 4 panes at a tropical forest with a waterfall and all kinds of wildlife. The puzzle is 276 by 192cm and the poster for it is quite large at 92 by 64 cm. Also, I'm so excited because my 60,000-piece puzzle is being delivered tomorrow (Thursday). Cheers Vicky.
Hi John
It was pretty nerve wracking mixing the bags. I think just because the first section was so challenging with all the green! I don’t regret mixing them though, it’s been really fun building the two sections 😊.
Congratulations on the Dowdle! It does look like a truly epic puzzle! Judy at Addicted2Puzzles is currently building a bag a day over 60 days, she has just done number 4 I think and her videos are already going up on her YT channel!
I don’t have Tropical Impressions, but I know the one you mean. It’s a lovely puzzle 😃
Thanks, as always, for watching John!
cool.... wondering any new player straight go into this manificient puzzle as their first puzzle
That would be a very ambitious beginner indeed! But one with good taste in puzzles 😁
this was so fun to watch. I 'm doing the 24k puzzle and have the same problem with the pieces getting stuck together. I kind of tap them with the flat of my nails. and I try to hold the piece with the image up, and tap the back of the other piece. I hope this makes sense.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😍
Thanks, I’ll try your technique and see if it works better than I was managing it!
Madness I say mixing sections in this puzzle. Only joking, great video as usual. I've completed section two but, like you did, I'm really struggling with all the green on section 1. Finding it tough going.
It's a cheetah by the way, the dark lines from the corner of the eyes around the muzzle are the giveaway. I read a lot of Willard Price adventure books as a child :-).
You may just be right about me being mad! 😆
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
The green on section one, and I suspect section 10 is a nightmare. I definitely would not mix either of the end sections. 2 and 3 are definitely doable mixed, but it’s a very bitty and bobby puzzling experience! 😍
Thank you! I knew I was probably getting it wrong 😍
Keep up the good work with your section 1, it does come together eventually 😃
Great job. Next time mix 3! Jk…two is enough
Believe it or not I have toyed with the idea of mixing 3, but I don’t think I will - 2 is challenge enough and fits nicely on my board - 3 would involve going back to my foam board method and I’m not sure I want to faff around with that 😊
Thanks for watching!
I would like to know what kind of board, and your method for doing large puzzle in small spaces?
Hi there, my puzzle table (the white one) is called Melltorp and it’s from Ikea. The board I build this puzzle on is a large piece of MDF which rests on top of the table. The board can accommodate 6000 pieces.
I have done a video on building large puzzles in limited space, here is the link: ruclips.net/video/F3HqBgEdPV8/видео.html everything I explain in there is how I manage large puzzles in small spaces. I hope that helps!
And I also have had the problem with the wrong pieces who stuck together. And a bit damaged. 🤣
LIFE. THE Greatest Puzzle. The name of it.
Another comment mentioned that they had similar problems with the Life puzzle as well. I guess it must be something to do with the shape of Educa’s pieces in these two puzzles.
Now doing the 3th part. 3 pieces gone very bad. 😂😂😂
Woohoo! I need to get back onto it soon. I would love to finish it this year. Have 3 of your pieces broken? I hope you can fix it 😊
How can you do a jigsaw puzzle with that many pieces I wouldn’t be able to do that
I just love large piece count puzzles! Can’t get enough of them in fact 😍
@@Vickymakesandbuilds oh ok fair enough I could with big puzzles like that one
That puzzle is so crumbly you could put fruit on it and serve it at a family reunion.
Yep! That’s pretty much the case for every Educa I think 😍
Still love the puzzle though!
I sometimes appreciate the crumbly nature of Educa puzzles as when I get pieces in the wrong place I don't damage the prongs getting them apart as much as with say a Ravensburger puzzle. Of course, always construct on small foam boards or at the very least pieces of paper👍
Yes, that is a good point! I agree about building on paper, especially bigger sections that you have to move later 😊
This is a job... I think you are getting paid for making puzzles?!
and it's a nice job. Because I Know puzzling. Making another educa wild life puzzle. It's a drug.
I definitely agree that it’s like a drug! But a healthy one 😃
I get a little bit from the channel, but it’s not my full time job - that would be a dream come true for me if it was! ❤️
