People are always talking about Ronaldo, Messi, Usain Bolt, Ronnie O Sullivan , Muhammad Ali ... well there is Magnus Carlsen !!! The beauty about his chess playing is you recognize and see all the genius moves but you never came up with it yourself. People compared him to Mozart, but I rather would compare Magnus to JS Bach ... creating a whole world out of nothing , a visionair !!! Sometimes the chess pieces own the chess player and he or she is stuck, not knowing anymore what to do ... Magnus Carlsen OWNS the chess pieces !!! I think it's very clear by now my respect towards this man is enormous...
I love how Magnus marched his King over to the kingside, entombed it on h6, and then, with a flourish, broke open the position, and TADA! His king is perfectly placed. Just beautiful to watch.
Because after Nxf7 Hikaru would simply play Rxd1 and Magnus would've lost his queen, instead after Nxc6 you cannot play Rxd1 since white would play Nxa7+ win the black queen on b5 and end up having a pawn more than black.
if he did that, he will lost his queen by Hikaru's d8 rook. The Nc6 move, if Hikaru takes his queen, he will check on Na7 and take back Hikaru's queen. then if Hikaru takes his e1 rook, he will take this rook by his a1 rook. the position is completely winning for Magnus because he's up a bishop, and 1 pawn. My thought.
The Queen is hanging from the Rook in d8. The only way Magnus can get even here is the following tactic Nxc6>Rxd1>Nxa7 triggering a fork with a check in King on c8 and Queen on b5.
Great win. Was there any hope for Hikaru at some point in the game? To beat a Super GM like this, well that is why Magnus is still the champ. I want to know if the Nakamura's bong cloud works.

01:50 Move 11 why black dont do xd4? (still dont know why) 03:55 Move 17 why black dont do Rxd1? (already got an answer) I am a newbie, please your insight 🙏
As for the first one I think hikaru just didn't want magnus's knight to become more active if he had taken that pawn magnus knight could've jumped further to some outposts and as for the move 17 he didn't go rook takes queen becoz magnus has knight takes a7 forking king and queen after all the trades magnus would be up a knight
@@SurajKumar-kk9pr thanks for the explanation for move 17, just realized. For the move 11, I still dont get it, the knight cant go anywhere because pinned the white Queen.
@@Chiefald for move 11, hikaru still had his king in the center of the board and his queen in front of it. While it’s true that the knight can’t capture back immediately, releasing the hold on e5 (by moving a pawn to capture) would allow white to “crash through” with his pawn at some key moment. There would be a semi-open (potentially open after maybe some Nb3 ideas winning/removing the pawn from covering the file) d-file and a semi-open e-file (in white’s favor) for placement of the rooks. With a potential fork of the bishop and knight, a potential pin on the queen to the king, and better piece activity for white plus the opportunity to create multiple threats (thus, more “active” development), not taking the pawn probably just felt like a safer option. It’s not necessarily that it couldn’t be taken, but hikaru may not have wanted such a passive, defensive middle game (which is ironic because the entire endgame was passive and defensive for him). At least that’s what I think I’m only 1500ish so I could be totally wrong but it made sense to me
@@Chiefald ah so sorry actually if hikaru takes the pawn the threat is actually to push e4 to e5 forking knight and bishop with pawn and if bishop takes magnus can go rook to e1 and suddenly there is this dangerous pin behind the bishop becoz hikaru's queen is in front of her king magnus can retreat his bishop to attack that bishop sooner or later atleast he will win hikaru's bishop
Sorry im not the best at chess, can anyone tell me why Hikaru couldnt take the queen @3:55 i know there is a check with the knight after if he does but thats as much as I can see lol
If he takes the the queen then Magnus plays Nxa7 check and forking the queen, Hikaru moves his king, magnus then takes the queen. Now Magnus is up a whole minor piece. That’s why Hikaru can’t take the queen
Good question. I know it is a bit late to answer, but rb3 stops rc1 by white. Rc1 would attack the c7 pawn with check. And even though black can take one of white's pawns, white will take g6 and h5 after checking the king away from guarding them. When those black pawns fall then the white g and h pawns accompanied with the king will march forward.
after rook d8 white takes pawn on c7 with a check then black moves king to f6 and there is not checkmate with the rook to h8 and black have lost a pawn :/
Carlsen's Queen is vulnerable from rook D8. Moving Knight C6 would mean for Naka to eat the Queen, as Carlsen checks Nakamura's King and Queen with Knight A7. Had to pause the video to understand that part either. Brilliant move.
