My father was at this show! His friend recorded it off the radio and gave him a cassette of it. He treasured it for almost 25 years, until it deteriorated. He was up front, so close he could touch Randy's feet, or so he claimed. Randy was his idol, and this show meant a lot to him.
Just fucking insane. He wasn't just a crazy solo guitarist. He was also an amazing rhythm guitarist, writer and performer. It's hard to find people who can do all this as well as Randy did. He was a fucking god on guitar. Always wanted to see him live longer and later maybe do stuff with other people. Missing you always, Randy.
Agreed, I love how he always played songs slightly different, it's so refreshing but Randy's stuff never gets old my favorite live bootleg is from Jan 22, 1982 in Milwaukee his tone is GODLY in it omg haha
The most complete package of artist, performer, shredder, and composer in rock guitar history. Eddie is fabulous and there are a few others in the top tier but randy is the most well rounded. A gift.
Your absolutely right that's why he's the greatest of all time he had it all.. the writing skills, the amazing way he wrote his songs (listen to how amazing the back rythym part of the crazy train solo is) and most of all, NOONE and I mean NOONE looked as cool as randy with his guitars and the way he moved around on stage.. greatest live guitarist of all time and noone will ever beat him
this is the show that really put Randy on the map...i was stunned when i heard it. And i had just seen Ozzy and Randy in Detroit 2 months earlier. The power he had inserted into his playing was breath taking. Never heard anything like it before or since. Still just as amazed 43 years later.
some comments diss Ozzie and Sharon. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have this! As far as Randy goes, yes, was an impressario on guitar but we'd all be at the top of whatever art form, job or craft we chose too if we had the perfect environment to grow in like Randy had. His Mom ran a music school and trained him from diapers to live and breathe music. Many thanks to Ozzie, Sharon and Mrs. Rhoads for all their contributions to Randy. He himself would be first in to thank everyone. Use him as inspiration in your own life now. He's pure postivity. Feel the energy and make good use of it now while you have time, the most precious gift of all, the one gift Randy had so little of. Thanks for readinng this long comment. God bless!
it seems no one who tries to play this song can even handle the guitar like he did, no matter the effects he has on, no matter what he changes, you can just tell it’s randy
Everytime I hear RR and his solos it just blows me away how impressive his work is.. it sounds like child's play to him.. Rock Guitar lost a flag bearer when we lost RR.
This is the best version of Crazy Train I have heard so far. Has the intro & outro at the end, and other subtle awesome things that the studio version is missing.
RR was a god. The whole band is just pure fire. What a rhythm section with Rudy and Tommy locking that shit down and randy just soaring over the top. Would have lost my damn mind seeing this crew live.
I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Zakk and he loves Randy. He won't tolerate any slander towards Randy. It's sweet hearing him talk about his love of St. Rhoads, as he calls him.
This is probably my favorite live version of this song. Randy was on fire. He put a slight spin on the whole song especially the licks in the chorus. An absolute genius!
Ohhhhhh man....I love how you can just tell it's Randy right from the first onslaught of that "off the rails" bend!!!! If I had to say one thing about Randy's legacy, it's wasn't just his flawless technique, but the way he made that guitar burn and sing with each crushing power chord....What a phenominal guitar legend!!!!
My personal opinion Randy would blow away Zakk million times over going one on one. Just listen to this version here of Randy's playing.this is a guitar God here period

@guitarmessiah95 After reading Sarzo's book and understanding what life was like on the road chained to Ozzy and Sharon, it's no surprised he wanted out of that. I will admit however, that Ozzy gave Randy an amazing opportunity, and it's clear he made the absolute best of it - resuscitating Ozzy's career in the process.
Check out the book "Off the Rails" by Rudy Sarzo!(the bass player at this time). Awesome story of his time with Ozzy and Randy from 81-82. Not just about RR the guitarist but about the man.
I used a 'good box' the other day into my amp (preamp in + clean channel), and then used the amp settings (it has very nice EQ for using knobs...) by themselves for different songs, and the other musicians didn't even know the difference, they just kept commenting on my guitar's amazing tone, presence and good mix... I do play this song btw I'm gonna have to vid it! :) I like how Randy just jams every fill and solo really... it's Rock 101!

81 was Randy’s year. Dominating. The next year he doesn’t sound as good - was it simply because it had become a circus and his heart wasn’t in it anymore?
I noticed that too. I think being a rock star got old for him, that and listening to Ozzy try to sing over and over would get to anyone. He wanted to teach. It's just a shame that he didn't get the chance. Amazing that we're still talking about RR even after all these years. That tells you something.
