- I came to Billings Montana looking for a video to make. I decided to head down to the Native American reservation just south of the city to see what I could find.
I headed south to Hardin, MT, then took the local roads through the Crow Tribe land to the small town of Crow Agency. I started talking to the locals, where I began to learn some Native American history.
I then learned of the small barbershop nearby, ran by a female barber. I was very excited, since it sounded so perfect. I want to represent the Native Americans while I am here, and this one way I can help. The reservation doesn't get enough attention or investments, and so I want to make this video to help bring in some tourist dollars there. Anyone can drive in and explore.
I drove to this little tiny building, across from the trading Post and Conoco gas station, where I saw an old barbershop sign. The sign says Cuts The Hair. The window has another sign that says OPEN. I entered and found Miriam, who agreed to cut my beard. This where she welcomed me and made me feel at home. She even trimmed my eyebrows..
After she finished with my beard trim shape-up, then she started giving my mom a women's haircut.

The location of this barbershop is right near the Crow Trading Post and Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.
Jonathan Maxwell Beartusk is a Crow Tribe artist who makes solar art. That means he uses the sun to burn wood into fantastic art. He also plays flute, and his music is at the end of this video.

Miriam Knowshisgun is a very well known gospel singer on the Crow reservation. Very well respected and loved. Ive known her for many years from growing up I a Christian family and seeing her at church services singing.
Im so glad you got to meet her!
I'm very thankful for meeting her. She was one of the great highlights. We really love the time on the reservation with so many kind people.
I was able to hear her sing in church and we enjoyed it very much. So inspiring!

Been threw having there nation diminish and still the live on reservation A lot of them were peace loving people .. but the white man (being one myself ) still called on them to fight their wars ..god bless the Native American great to see this vlog ...

Yes there were so many Native Americans killed. They got such a raw deal.
Our Fascist and Pre-National Socialist leaders wanted to give them a state of their own ( Oklahoma ) and we would have taken over both Americas resulting in the Native USA Americans and the white man experiencing great joy together.
I wonder if this could be a Guiness record thing... visiting most barber shops ever 🤣

That's so cool Jason you would visit such a historic place. My father used to announce the Indian Rodeo at Crow agency. Mariam and her shop were the quintessential reservation experience. A lot of special people there, thanks for that Jason I really enjoyed seeing it decades later.
I remember as a kid going to the Custer Battlefield and the Indian Guide telling how his family said Custer really died. He said: "History does not tell how Custer really died, and that is that an Indian woman cooked him some fry-breads to offer in Peace to him, an gave them to her son, to give to Custer, and when the Boy went to give dem to the General, and when he did Custer bent down, his horse spooked and Custer fell off and all those soldiers laughed at him, and he got so angry he pulled out his pistol and shot that little boy between the eyes. Well, his mother got really mad and she vowed to get Custer one day, and that she would not bathe until he was caught and killed, so she got "stinkiner" and 'stinkiner' and she also got really, really fat. Shooting that little boy is one thing that made the Indians really dedicated to getting Custer, and when they finally got him they tied him up by hands and feet on the ground and mother of the boy he shot pulled up her dress and set on Custer's face. He kick about two, maybe four times and he was dead, and that's the story of how Custer really died..."

My father announced the Iowa State Fair and Rodeo for almost 30 years and announced and helped produce many Rodeos and State Fairs across the U.S. and Canada. Some of my fondest memories as a kid were of the People and places in Small towns across America and I love that someone like yourself and your Mom enjoy sharing stories about uncommonly common people, like Mariam, Nin and so many other delightful people, and it sets you apart from other Vloggers

Hey Jason your mum has done a great job raising you to being a polite gentle Respectful Man well done mum (Carla) that’s one of the reason I enjoy watching Sad to hear Miriam has those restrictions on her business no water . Being able to be move at a drop of a hat .. so sad that’s the position for her business and future love the sound of the trains in the background so old sound ... the art was great too.
