Well, I noticed the same exact noise. At first I didnt know what it was or if it was normal until the check engine light appeared and disappeared (it was P0299). I bought that clip directly from Dealership (a little more expensive but not too bad) and installed it myself. Its been a few weeks now. The rattling noise is completely gone and the check engine never came back. Thank you, sir.
Thank you for this post. I was getting the dreaded P0299 permanent code. I used this clip and it eventually cleared the permanent code and I was able to get my car smogged. Such a relief! As for installation, I had to crimp my clamp down to make it tighter. It definitely wasn't tight enough when it arrived. The first time I put it on, it moved and I had to redo it.
I have the same problem on my 2012 GTI. Been to lazy to do it but this video encouraged me to finally get up and do it. Got an exhaust and I’m tuned but the obnoxious rattle noise ruins it. Great video!
oh wow I have that same exact sound on my 2010 A4, it sounds like a bicycle chain to me lmao I thought it happened because I replaced my diverter valve but glad to see this can fix it somewhat
If there is a gap when you wobble the waste gate arm, then its highly likely that the sound came from here. Glad you found this video and hope it helps!! :)
@@hanksun8707 yeah I'm hoping this can help tighten the Wastegate so I don't have to replace the whole damn turbo cause I'm getting the P0299 code for underboost

8:48 If your wastegate actuator is rattling then it’s too late to stop the wastegate from leaking. As an anti-rattle clip, yet it absolutely works. This clip needs to be installed on all replacement turbos and you only get one chance to install it without altering the tension of the clip.

Thank you for the video, nice work. Seems you have reduced rattling 90%+. Tiguan and GTI "I believe" have different Turbo, at least gen 2 Tiguan vs GTI. I kind of think this is completely random from individual vehicle to vehicle. Likely variations in individual turbos supplied from the manufactures.
Gen 2 does not have this problem. They use newer IHI turbo that has reinforced actuator arm. All the older turbos with the older actuator arm design have the same issue. The new ones they fixed by adding bracing around the hinge on the arm. The newer one is braced in places where the clip would go on the older one. The newer Tiguan I think uses a slightly revised version of is20 like Gti but I am not 100%. Either way they both have the reinforced actuator arm.
Yeah I think it varies from car to car. If you look at my video. 09:30 the comparison, it sounds like it is also still there, but it is a lot more subtle! I definitely can't hear it in the car anymore. Hope it can save the turbo from getting even worse! Good luck !
@@CHENHish it'll be different for everyone's car, the clip may fix it for one car but do nothing for another car, the main purpose of the clip is to increase the lifespan of the wastegate rod of a NEW turbo, so you may want to look into that as long as you have exhausted all other options
Perhaps the clip allows the vibrations to travel exclusively to the waste gate itself leading to faster wear? I’m iffy about getting this. I have a 2013 GLI (CCTA) and I’m not sure if I have this issue or if I’m not looking for the right sound.

It probably failed again because the hole itself got "streched" because of the rattling over time. Its possible to solder and redrill the hole rather easily and permanently this time. If you have the capacity to do that. Otherwise, a new turbo is a 3K job more or less.
