One of my favorite Johnny tunes. I found a 99 cent cassette of "John Dawson Winter III" in a cutout bin many years ago, and this song just grabbed my soul. It resonated with me, and I think of it as Johnny's theme song. It means a lot to me personally, too/
It’s all heart and soul with Johnny - see it in his face.. a beautiful man with a superb voice, legendary guitar playing, and some lovely songs to boot (top 5) kinda met him once behind the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver 80s once but he couldn’t see - later, my bass player later got me his autograph on a CD when he visited Johnny’s bus one night in Texas to spin some tunes
As a blues rock guitarist Johnny Winter is unequalled. The secret to his sound here is using the rhythm pickup on the guitar with the treble boosted on the amp and a phase shifter or univibe
Seen him in the spectrum in Philadelphia in 1970 he didn't want to stop playing they had to pull the plug on him I'll never forget it for real kick ass Rock an roll RIP love u for ever
Great version of this on Edgars "Brother Johnny" album. Michael McDonald with Joe Walsh on guitar. I have much respect for Joe now, very soulful sound.
I was at this concert. April 1983 at Massey Hall ,Toronto, Canada. Great show. I met the bass player Jon Paris in 2014,nice guy we talked about Johnny Winter. Johnny is my favorite rock blues guitarist,he influenced me to play the guitar,I miss him.
I was there too! .. standing w. my beautiful asian gf about 12 rows back in the crowd .. I waved Jon Paris a peace sign and he actually waved me back with the same - really blew me away! Jon struck me as a great guy and a truly wonderful musician.
"Sadly underrated in the blues field."- 1ST WHITE PERSON INDUCTED INTO THE BLUES HALL OF FAME. Agreed that he doesn't get the respect from the mainstream pukes but few would argue his prowess with the blues.
Quand j'ai vuwhen I saw and heard Johnny Winter doing this song around 1976....before he started sitting on the drummer's podium...he said...I'm making this song in honor of Jimi ...I still have almost 50 ans après a pinch in the heart of emotion and admiration that has never been respected at its fair valueium
one of the best concerts I've ever seen..on video..one of the best trios of all time...used to watch this show over an over..bought an vhs tape of it at a record show..luv it
This song gives a lot of heart felt feelings to many different people in many different ways . We know Johnny was always on tour and I'm shure he was writing the Blues , in this song , Stranger .. JW , my Hero .
Just absolutely awesome.I'll really miss you Johnny.Hope you're once again jamming with Muddy and every other exceptional Bluesman...just like yourself. May you rest in peace.Amen
fabulous absolutely just terrific, always loved this song... miss the guy but never his music...I play a lot of Johnny when working some folks get burned out on it but they just don't have any good taste as far as I'm concerned... RIP JW
My favorite of his & one of the greatest recorded in my opinion. Biased opinion of course, but one of the greatest songs recorded that, for the most part, nobody even knows.

Hello, pretty stranger Can I sit here for awhile? You know I'm kinda tired & lonesome Seems like I've been ten thousand miles Just want to talk to you awhile You know I'm not sure where I'm goin' But I can tell you where I've been But I guess it really doesn't matter Cuz I'm just lookin' for a friend No, I might not pass this way again Got no time, now for thinkin' Got no time to wonder why But I got time for one more great day And I got time to say goodbye Yes I can make it if I try It's gettin' late, guess I'll be goin' I hope I didn't bring you down Oh yes, I can come up for a minute If you don't mind me hangin' round Cuz I'm a stranger here in town Yes I'm a stranger in your town Yes I'm a stranger here in town
Johnny at his best in his own written blues ballad... Paul should help him include it in every set list....with come on my kitchen.. missipee blues walkin thru the park and Deep Down in FLA Nuthin Left but ASheS, ONCORE memory PAIN.....
Thanks for the upload. Great song. Stumbled on Johnny in 2016 (internet is great), and now I am hooked. Christ, would have loved to see him in a concert like this. Rip Johnny.
We as Johnny Winter fans are so fortunate to have Paul Nelson. I swore off Winter as Teddy Slatus dragged him down. Seen him 60-70 times. This tun one of my faves. Now that Paul plays 2nd guitar, Its time to add back in some of these bluesey tunes like It's my own fault, AND TUNES FROM Johnny Winter and that bike clubs like so much. Like Journey he leaves his die hard fan base in the wind. I remember him with shouts of get down Mr. Winter and Floyd Radford & Johnny .. answering back with Sweet.
The studio version with Edgar on keys produced by derringer should off been a huge hit. Unfortunately johnny was pigeon holed as a blues guitarist which probably precluded him from any of the pop stations.
To me alot of blues is a very beautiful form of abstraction that doesn't quite fit into western music theory. People have a hard time following the solos as they tend to stray away from simple melodies based off the major scale. In other words a lot of people just don't get it.
@lovintonal THIS IS THE TRUE FIREBIRD TREASURE HE AND NELSON SHOULD BE CLOSING WITH NOT HIGHWAY 61 Johnny owns it he wrote it and its played the johnson waters blues timbre SAW HIM DO IT BY REQUEST WITH TOMMY SHANNON AT DON LAWS PARADISE BOSTON
One of the best songs ever
Best rock blues guitarist hands down.
This perfect should have been a big hit.
RIP JW. GOAT - Greatest Of Them All.
What is wrong with the 8 people that gave this a thumbs down? You all don't know good music. Probably Madonna fans.

I'm just glad I live in the Utube age- so many fantastic clips of Johnny Winter which I never even knew existed.
This was one of johnneys favorite songs i could almost cry when i think about how good he was and now hes gone love u foreverRIP
As time goes by , its just becomes apparent what an amazing talent Johnny Winter was , his legacy just grows year by year since he left us.
The best freaking guitar player I have ever seen!!!! I am 68 years old and he still rocks my world like nobody else🤗

He said that this song & “Dallas” were the best songs he had written.
Johnny Winter said "Stranger" (he wrote it) was his "All-Time Favorite" song of his, It's A Great Song Indeed

Ofcourse he's an amazing player but the man sure sings great as well!
You're absolutely right. I've read the same thing from many others - his singing is essential to his music!
i realize Im quite off topic but does anybody know of a good place to watch new tv shows online?
@Miles Ty I would suggest flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Dawson Kevin yup, have been using FlixZone for months myself =)

Quickly becoming a blues legend that is gaining in popularity. Should be in the rock in roll hall of fame.

Hello, pretty stranger
Can I sit here for awhile?
You know I'm kinda tired & lonesome
Seems like I've been ten thousand miles
Just want to talk to you awhile
You know I'm not sure where I'm goin'
But I can tell you where I've been
But I guess it really doesn't matter
Cuz I'm just lookin' for a friend
No, I might not pass this way again
Got no time, now for thinkin'
Got no time to wonder why
But I got time for one more great day
And I got time to say goodbye
Yes I can make it if I try
It's gettin' late, guess I'll be goin'
I hope I didn't bring you down
Oh yes, I can come up for a minute
If you don't mind me hangin' round
Cuz I'm a stranger here in town
Yes I'm a stranger in your town
Yes I'm a stranger here in town

I think he is using a small music man Amp with a built in phase shifter.
Right and he used the rhythm pickup on the guitar. That's crucial

Phase shifter.

A phase shifter or Univibe.
IT IS NOT A CHORUS
Johnny used a Univibe in those days.
Facts. Look it up

It is definitely a phase shifter or Univibe.
