Having played through just about all FF's this one still holds a special place in me. One of my favourite games of ALL TIME & one of the best soundtracks of all time.

I'm not the biggest FFVIII fan, but I will say it had one of the best intros. The buildup in the transition from feather to sword (as it graciously swings to the ground) got me really, really excited when I first saw this. Just sitting in the rain while the cello is played in the background.
Squall is my favourite video game character of all time. It used to be Cloud. I think I may be one of the few who actually begun with FFVII and liked VIII the best. VII has better gameplay but that's pretty much it. Graphics, story, music, characters and world all go to VIII. Hmm, VII had better villain as well...the best in fact! Rinoa>Tifa for me too.
This is definitely one of my favorite scenes from any video game of all time. It's Alluring It's Beautiful It's Poetic It summons 10,000 different thoughts and emotions which surge through the soul, mind, and body all at once. It lifts the very sense of your being onto Silver Wings. It's the Pounding of your Heart It's the Coursing of your Blood It's the very energy that exists in the core of the Universe. I think that means that this is one killer video. Don't get lost in it.
A suiting opening for such an awesome game. This is probably the most memorable Final Fantasy I've played yet, with an awesome world and the best music.

When I first watched this intro it screamed at me Get ready to play through an epic story you will LOVE. FF always had terrific intro's. This,VII,X,XII are my favorites. Its good that holidays started. I'm gonna play it once more just to feel young again.

Final Fantasy VIII was the first Final Fantasy I've ever played and is the one that brought me to the series, therefore it is no surprise that it is my favorite of out all FF titles released.
I just love this opening, so breathtaking, my cousin had this game, so everytime I went to her house she will put it and I would be so happy and hypnotized on the screen, love it forever!! S&R

Epic. I replayed this game two weeks ago, still playing, and I feel like I'm 11 years old again like tomorrow never comes. I'm so glad I spared time to play this great game. When searching on youtube for this opening FMV, under the searchbox was "Did you mean: Final fantasy VII opening?" and I went "OH come on! Give FFVIII some credit already"... When Square figured out how the Gunblade shell propulsion works in Dissidia, man did its use really turn out to be so cool and shown why mastery of it is hard.
I like how Squall's first limit and Seifer's only limit are the same as what they use in the opening to scar each other. Makes the opening feel like a cinematic version of a battle.
The female in the field is Rinoa Heartilly. The brown-haired guy fighting in black with the gunblade is Squall Leonhart. The blonde fighting Squall is Seifer Almasy and the creepy bad lady is Edea Kramer.
I remember the day my uncle bought the game I was like 6 or 7 and we put the game, and we were HOLY SHIT ,DAT OPENING, he never let me play it since I was to stupid to play it, but I would watch him play for hours almost every night. Then as I grew older I remembered about this game and decided to play it, FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME, it is a very special game to me.

Final Fantasy is not only a videogame in my opinion... it's like a second reality, a second life that you live for a few hours every day... Squall, Zell, Irvine, Rinoa, Selphie, Quistis, Laguna... they all become members of your family and you need them. You become a student of the balamb garden and you have to fight if you want freedom! you're not playing... you're saving your world!!! FF8 had given me a reason to smile every day and i really cried when it ended.
wooow... you know it's been ten years since this game came out and the graphics are still pretty good... well, even if there are games with much better graphics -- you can't deny how well the direction, timing, and music was carried out... probably one of(if not THE) greatest openings ever. i never get tired of it (:

@TrippNYCHC It really does. The beginning words are the same things Rinoa and Squall say to each other in the flower patch area. And the fight between Seifer and Squall show's you how Squall and Seifer got their scars. Lastly, the scenes showing Edea are from within the game. Its not so evident, but if you pay attention to the game, the opening sequence makes sense.
This game changed my life, for real. I remember being 8 years old (Im 17 now) and I would play this game pretending that I was squall and rinoa was the girl i liked back then, it seemed perfect how you can relate such a story to your own life
I'd love to live in Balamb. Even just this opener makes me want to cry because it highlights the story of so many amazing characters; even someone like Seifer, I hated yet pitied and loved a lot for so many reasons.

When i first saw this when i was 8. Changed my fucking life about video games for ever. I was so used to the innocence of nintendo but when i saw squall get slashed on his face and blood splatter out like that it scared me and i was shocked to see that in a video game. Thats when i not only stepped into the world of gaming for big boys but also RPG's
gosh this opening used to scare me when it first came out in '99 (i was 8) but i still watched the whole game play and that made me love it. now i'm playing it for the first time and i've completed 1/3 of the game in 4 days =D
I went to the Distant Worlds:Music from Final Fantasy concert in Houston and they played this as the first song on the list. The concert was epic! PS If FF fans want more music like this to be played at their local symphony/chorus, request for it like crazy! The houston symphony did the concert because of repeated and ongoing request/demand.
One of the greatest game openings of all time, easily. People love to hate on VIII sometimes, but for me, this WAS Final Fantasy. VII was cool, IX was alright. VIII was epic.
This intro reveals a lot about the end of the game. Is obvious that Rinoa is Ultimecia in future .She promise that will be ´´here and waiting´´, right where the end is placed. This opening shows the beggining and the end of the game . Fantastic game.
FF VIII was my first FF and while it hasn't remained my fav I can't see why anyone would consider any FF less then a masterpiece. You should definitly try it out if you can find it!
That's usually how it happens, a lot of people were introduced to Final Fantasy with FF VII, so that's why its their favorite. My favorite is FF VI for the SNES, as its the first one I played.

i love the gradual build up in story and relationships , and the lack of cut scenes to skip a journey , sharing dreams on train trip i could go on

VIII's cinematics are the most impressive in a game to date, and top tier across any medium. Masterwork of visuals, story, art and music.
Seriously, I loved this game so much. My favorite RPG for TV based console. It had one of the best music too.

When i first bought this game after playing the demo and seeing the trailer, this intro gave me goosebumps. And the game was very good.

i played this game 30th time ^^. I so love this game. i played it when i was 8 after i finished FFX.
