    One thing I think you overlooked was running a Sab with a full unit equipped with vibroswords. Not only does it add more ranged firepower on the way in, but it adds another red and white die when you get there. Plus, when you're up in the enemy's face, you know they'd be in range of an explosion from the mine. Could potentially move close and place a mine one turn, then detonate it the next turn, move into engagement and use the charge keyword to get a free attack. Also don't forget that the mine has surge to hit, so it is more potent than it looks just based on the dice pool. Not saying it'll be the best way to run them, but it's *a* way. You aren't just paying for the mine, you're paying for another body which can still shoot and stab as normal.
    Another thing is the strike team (although i'd much rather run a full unit myself). They are a strike team that has impervious and red defense die; with the potential for shields to block even more hits. Add on situational awareness to get rid of crits too. With that against units that only have white defense die, you'll probably win the sniper war against the GCW factions.

      ARCcommand You’re right, I did neglect the idea of running saboteurs in a melee build. Still, I stand by my hand waving dismissal of them. Adding one to a melee build would increase the units cost by roughly 25%. Id just much rather put those points towards another BX squad with swords or beefier heroes. Not a bad idea, and could be fun to run, but i think thats just a lot of points better spent elsewhere.
      You also have a good point about a shielded sniper strike team, but idk, I feel theyd struggle to justify that points investment.

      @@HollywoodWargaming I'll have to see how they end up running once mine come in but you're probably right. It is hard to fit in the Sabs just as extra bodies when the CIS are forced to take expensive commanders, as each saboteur is almost the price of a vanilla B1 unit. Although a regular BX body is 17 points, so 11 more than that isn't horrible. Regardless though great video man! Been eagerly awaiting this one!!

      ARCcommand Thanks. But I agree. The CIS is a hard faction to guage. On one end you’re spoiled for cheap troops, on the other you’re begging for more durable/offensive units. Maybe they will have room for sappers and theyll be more punchy against heroes in a list with the new T Series. We’ll see.

    Dioxis is a killer against clones, who love being close to one another. The dice average 1.375 hits, not bad when a single failed save effectively kills two models.

      @HollywoodWargaming  4 года назад +4

      Pumpkin_Lich I did not consider the distribution of clones when consodering the dioxis. Very good point. Perhaps area control may be a good counter to the Republic we’ll see emerge in the future

    I think Sabs are one of those units that really depend on the "Map" you are playing.
    When you always play on really open terrain like a dessert or something they are probably trash.
    But on close terrain, like a city table they will be awesome.

    Though native pierce and high velocity are obviously better than lethal and immune: deflect, I think FFG did an awesome job making these snipers still super solid. Finding aims will be tough, but with 2 red dice youre almost always hitting 2, and catching a squad with no cover and possibly pierce can really thin out an army In a hurry. You also have red defense dice and potentially surges from aggressive tactics, so your snipers are rarely getting blown off the board. In terms of the sab teams, I think that they are the best sabs in the game. All sabs, when played correctly, are amazing for area control and locking down lanes from your opponents. These sabs, unlike the GCW ones, are best early in the game so that their poison can really punish your opponent over time. Even if they aren't doing wounds, the suppression alone can be killer for some armies. Also note that you can put them in a vibrosword squad, and you can use charge and drop a mine in the same activation. A comms jammer 5 man sab team with swords can dive into the middle of a clone ball with one move, do their regular melee attack (which will net roughly 5-7 hits on an average roll) and then place a mine, which even if it ends up killing 1 commando in return, they don't suffer poison since they're droids. That maneuver is almost like a watered down grievous 1 pip, but with poison on all the "extra attacks".
    If you want to really dive into the numbers, all you'd have to do is kill roughly 8 Phase 1 clone miniatures in order to make your points back on a 5 man sab/sword squad (full unit with tenacity, comms jammer, swords and sab = 111pts, each phase 1 is worth 13pts). Thinking about it that way, and hoping terrain grants you the ability to take full advantage of these guys, they could easily be devastating.

      Tyler Carnes I agree, but 8 Phase I Clones is not a small amount to ask.

    The reasoning was sound. Now, it is time to evaluate this review against others. Use all reviews as a guide and make your own opinion. Play both types of droids and see if this review is closest to your gaming experience. It takes several games to develop a pattern if either tactic words

    I actually find myself getting a lot of use out of the vibrro swords since I use commando droids mainly to protect my super tactical droid since I felt magna guards had too little range for that so having a troop that could both protect my guy take a hit shoot at range and fight up close in case of Jedi or something has proven to be invaluable

    I love the melee build for these as they generally get in a fight without being shot at and do a lot of work when they get there. The sniper strike team just does not work as very difficult in getting them an aim token or an order without it being detrimental to the rest of your army. Maybe they will fork better with a droid commander though.

    • @muxamoose1012
      @muxamoose1012 Год назад

      Give them hunter, and use a probe Droid or similar to get out observe tokens, then you have aims for reroll and you can use the other aim for lethal

    This is a 2022 comment: atm bx are, (in my opinion) a massively overpowered underrated unit. They can tank a lot of hits and dish out a large amount of damage. My playing partner has 2 units and I have a hard time playing against them, especially with a lot of terrain on the battlefield. If you run 2x BX, 2x B2 and one Droideka squad, nothing else matters, you are basically unkillable. People really gloss over the fact you can play seperatist armor infantry, and focus a lot more on spam.

    Wait you use shields after armor saves are made? I’ve been using them beforehand like dodges.

    • @Raythus
      @Raythus 4 года назад +6

      Yeah you're correct - per the RRG, you use shields during the 'Apply Dodge and Cover' step of attacking, so you have to choose to use the shields before you roll defence dice, reducing the number of dice you end up rolling.

    • @HollywoodWargaming
      @HollywoodWargaming  4 года назад +3

      They are applied before rolling. I misspoke.

    For 54 points I feel you're selling the sniper team with offensive push short. Two red with surge to crit land two hits pretty often, and with offensive push you can treat your AI keyword as having aim as well to trigger lethal. It might not crack jedi like high velocity does, but it should be great as a counter sniper to cover your heroes or pressure high value targets.

    • @HollywoodWargaming
      @HollywoodWargaming  3 года назад

      Perhaps. I just find it hard to justify such few dice at that cost, even if they are very good dice.

    I've played BX's about 5 times now. 2 X full squads with Sabs, tenacity and swords and a strike team with Sabs a shields has been the most successful and fun for me. Mines really help with objectives. Also Charge and then drop a mine is great for damage.

    Still learning the Meta's but are the BX Commandos better than Magna Guards? The BX Commandos are popular, but they seem weaker than the Magna Guards with not as good special units.
