Awesome! I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. So this video is one of my favorites. I am seriously watching all of your videos. I’m just excited and cannot wait to be able to get this weight off and become healthy. I have an 8 year old daughter who is very active, and it kills me when I have to tell her mommy can’t do that. So, thank you. 🙏🏻😊
I have an 8 year old son and I feel the same way 😩 I haven’t been diagnosed with sleep apnea but I have a hard time staying asleep at night. I am so ready to get this done and get my life back. Good luck to you!
This has DEFINITELY put my sleep apnea in remission!! I haven’t had to use my machine since I left Mexico!!! I actually used an app to record my snoring when I slept. When I had sleep apnea, I recorded myself without the machine and My snore score would be between 102-90. After my sleeve, my score dropped to 0!!!
I use an app called snore lab and it records your snoring levels. Before my sleeve my snore score was over 102 without my CPAP. After my sleeve, my score went down to less than 30 within a month and a few months after my sleeve it has gone to 0! I am 1 year and 5 months out and still maintaining a sleep score of 0!!
Yes, your oral surgeon might help you, but it's not guaranteed to work 100%. My father did this and still has bad sleep apnea. Check with your Sleep Study they might help you with options for masks and other things. I suffer from sleep Apne and Hidradenitis Suppurativa on my skin. My mask is the nasal cushion and doesn't irritate my skin. It is the smallest of its kind. I wish you the best of luck!
I have a question Dr. My pulmonologist wants me to get a CPAP machine prior to my surgery, use the machine and bring it with me to the hospital. 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea I was not compliant with the apparatus. The reason for the surgery is to lose overall body weight but specifically for the extra cervical tissue that I’ve accumulated. My question is -isn’t the hospital equipped with devices to help me in the event that I have trouble breathing during surgery?... Why do I have to bring a CPAP machine to the hospital? Thank you.
You won’t have cpap during surgery, you will be intubated under anesthesia and provided oxygen. I had to bring mine. That is for postop In hospital. The reason being is that your personal machine has presets for you. Also , I’m a nurse and you don’t want/need a hospital respiratory set up for just airway pressure. That’s only necessary if you are oxygen dependent. Also, once you start cpap do not discontinue it without having a sleep study performed-both for your safety and insurance requirements.
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. Yes I knew I would be into baited and was trying to figure out why I would need the CPAP machine for one day at the hospital which to be honest I would not wear it one day postop. I have not been compliant in the past because it’s extremely uncomfortable and in the two weeks I tried to wear it I had no sleep I’m hoping the weight loss will improve my sleep apnea.
I have sleep apnea I found out in 2018. I used my machine off and on because I never get rest. So I end up not using it. I have surgery in two weeks for the sleeve. I need to see this message
I hate my sleep apnea machine. The way that I breathe is more relaxed... I breathe in then pause before exhaling, even awake, but the CPAP always forces max pressure when I pause and it makes it unusable for me.
@@mimedeiros26 thank you for the response. I’m going to wait until I lose about 20-30 more pounds and ask my doctor for a referral to take the test again, then if I’m still where I was, I’ll ask the original doctor if he can adjust it.

How do you know if the sleep apnea is in remission? What are some of the signs?

I love my cpap machine. I'll still use it even when I reach my goal weight.
Not me can’t wait till the day I can throw mine in the trash can !
@@Hawgwild66 You obviously need APAP not CPAP then.
I sleep great with my cpap
Thanks so much Dr Alvarez ! , Is it possible to do the operation on someone with uncontrolled obstructive apnea ? I just can't use the cpap !

Go to your sleep study and ask them to do a new test perhaps you need your numbers on the CPAP machine to be changed.

@trclark7689 Don't wait for it. Your sleep and health are important. You can ask the doctor to adjust later, too.
