I've watched so many kickflip tutorials but this one was by far the best. He explains it way better than anyone else has, and it's easy to understand. Well done Dale.
i don't know how to kickflip yet, i'm so close, and if this helps me learn how to kickflip, imma share this to my friends this actually helped me know what steps to do. damn, now i'm gonna have to share it. oh well, i was gonna do that anyways. keep up the good content btw
vScxr_3 I landed my first 2 days ago. It was my fifth week of skating and my fifth day of trying. I got 4 clean ones and one ok one for a total of five lol.
I was practicing kick flips and I looked back on the “kick flip hack” video you made with dan and it felt weird at first but over an hour of consciously telling my self to do it that’s way I started actually landing them. Like fr no bs so thank you for the tips and great content
Get dat money... Progression of most starters.. Various kickflips in a catchy upbeat montage. Dropping specifics about what he did wrong and what helped (Foot placement, backseat, kick forward, back foot catch, jump high, square shoulders.) The humble one understand the physics of skating. Outro Montage of kickflips. Personal, i struggled with kick flip for long time because opening my shoulders and putting too much pressure on my toes causing the board to go behind. Also, good to see you are back and safe. Remember Retro Oreo Zip up hoodie coming soon, so you can remember the good old days.
Good point about leveling out the board. I think this is one of the most confusing things about the whole 'never flick down' thing you keep hearing. In my experience there's plenty of possibility to land a kickflip when you flick down 'the right way'. It obviously still holds true that you can't land the kickflip if your flick foot lands on the ground before the board does. But with the right timing, doing a flick when still going up in terms of the overall jump, you definitely can do a drag forward that slopes down at the end. It probably doesn't have to be much, as flick straight forward (not up, not down), also levels out the kickflip quite a bit. I haven't landed a kickflip yet though, but am so freaking close the trick is starting to make more and more sense to me now.
Kickflips are my all time favorite trick. Not leaning forward and delaying my flick like you talked about were the biggest help for getting my kickflips better.
I committed to a kickflip today but landed primo Dale came in with the clutch tutorial so we gonna get it tomorrow ill update when i get it Edit: ive landed it to a stall and im gonna work on it more later but i didnt roll away so im not fully gonna count it.
Jamonebuck I landed primo really hard but I fell properly so I was ok. My biggest fear rn is when I learn to go to primo because I want to do freestyle
@@skatexgarrett_soderstrom8362 If you keep your knees bend when landing, landing primo isn't going to be all that bad (at least, when stationary). I too have been trying some basic freestyle stuff and it helps a lot with dealing with this fear to try the basic primo stand stuff. Maybe even get flipping it a quarter flip way back to normal from primo and land it, is going to do a lot to dealing with fear. The other thing that could help in a massive way is getting a good insole (Footprint Kingfoam Elite), at that point it won't hurt nearly as much.
I love this new format of trick tutorial, it feels way more in depth and applicable than other kick flip videos. Hopefully I’ll be able to land them by the end of quarantine now...
Dude your insane helping thanks for helping us out. It shows that you put so mush effort and energy. You care for your fans its insane that your replying to almost all the comments. Thanks for the help and awesome content in quarantine.
Thankyou dale this video helps me a lot I have such a strugle with kickflips that I just didn’t do them anymore now i understand the concept of them much better keep safe ❤️
I’m trying to learn kick flips right now and land one every once in a while. My biggest problem is that I kind of leave my board behind most of the time and you’re the first person out of hundreds of videos to explain flicking late and not immediately. You are CLUTCH!!!
Awesome tips! I felt the rolled ankle thing man! Had my kickflips really down until my front foot slipped of the nose and tweaked badly.. relearning them right now.
This is hands down the best kickflip video on RUclips right now. Perfect approach to thinking about tricks. I could say more but we all know the attention span of our internet selves is about 1-2 sentences anyway. Great video.
Thanks for this vid man, literally all the things you just said are what i do wrong about my kickflips and what makes them rocket and stuff so thanks for making me understand the kickflip more
I love this video, i feel like all these flip tricks im getting good at I have to figure out where to keep weight and put pressure and the timing and i feel like trick tips always suck and never really address these things.
I prefer when they flip on the way up and go straight up into my feet, then bringing my feet and the board down after. Something about catching as ur falling is very unsatisfying to me.
Been skating since I could stand and never learned a kickflip. Literally just landed my first one days ago and this video is helping me clean them up so thanks a lot man
I went out skating around my town for 7 hours yesterday and learned so much in 1 day. Dales exactly right about the exponential growth. Now that I got my main tricks down everything else just started coming to me
I have a skate journal and learning kickflips is one of my goals so this is so helpful, all this info is going in the journal!! thank you once again dale, you're always killing it!
I was stuck with at the same stage of kickflips where I was able to land some but not good and consistent for 1 month now but ur video helped me get over that stage and now im able to kickflip almost every time. Now i just gotta get it down while riding. THANK YOU SO MUCH
This video was very helpful and made me realise that I was leaning to far forward on everything I do, ollies and the heel flip im close to landing feels easier and a lot more comfortable in general cheers dude.
Its funny how you mention that concept "how to think about a trick" because recently I have been using that idea to improve alot of tricks I never learned to do properly in the past. It really does help with relearning to do tricks with more consistency and pop than before.
I landed my first kick flip after trying so hard for a month about a month ago. Then I did 3 more on the following days but they took hours and were so rocketed. I pretty much gave up on them but this video makes me want to get them again. I had the exact same problem as you w the leaning forward thing. Thanks dale
I'm using quarantine to learn a decent kickflip after giving up 15 years ago. This video makes a lot of sense to me. Knowing some of the physics/mechanics/reasoning is essential for me to feel safe committing (safe-ish). Thanks, dude.
Been skating for around 17 years and yesterday was one of my first proper days out skating. My kickflips sucked and didn't exist. This is a great video to help just some of the ideas in it are great for practise. Having your foot more square on the board and flicking forward I would say are very valuable tips. And is something I usually do when I think about it but I often land ahead as well and put my foot anywhere and don't think. So this was great. Thanks
I'm more of a heelflip guy recently only started landing proper kickflips even though they're shitty. This is the first tutorial that's actually got me realising what i'm doing wrong, thanks Dale :) i'm always leaning way too much in the front
Really awesome video, I think this is a really well thought out process of the kickflip! I’ve had issues with my kickflip since day one and I think this is going to clean mine up really nicely!
Going to start putting this to use tomorrow. I’ve always favored heelflip tricks because my kick flips are ugly. I’m on of the ones that learned it the wrong way early on. Thanks for the video. 🤙
Really nice video, i was trying it yesterday for 2,5 hours and couldn't land it ,but you helped me understand what i was doing wrong!!Thank you for everything and your video is really helpful
Nice Video, Dale !!! I´m going through this... When i started learning this trick back in the 90´s, it was known as "Ollie Flip", at least in Brazil... Now i´m 43 and 5 years ago came back into Skateboarding... Now the trick is even more developed and beautiful, and the name Kickflip is better than ollieflip... In this video you bring important information that really helps people like me... I do kickflip, but i can´t make it properly all the time, and i´m also afraid of landing primo... I´ll keep in mind what i learned on this video... Thanks !
sup dude, ive been skating for 17 years now & you just helped me come full circle on these damn kickflips. Always had the flick, high ass ollie and would occasionally catch them high AF but would typically shoot out in front of me. Kicking down/flicking down was the F-ing KEY!!!!! Perfect kickflips everytime now, nice and even. Thanks for being a total psycho about figuring this out, because it payed off.

I've been practicing my kickflips for about a year or two since whenever I watched your previous kickflip video with dan. Now I can finally catch kickflips up/down things and land with control. They feel so good now that I know how to do them proper. It only took your videos and an entire year of practicing them every time i skated.
I love how the further skateboarding progresses, the more in depth trick tips become. used to be just: foot positioning (with shoes on hands), pop ur board, land bolts, and roll away!
I love you for this vid. I’ve had kickflips for a while now and where always looking ugly. Best in-depth vid for kickflips. Keep it up man. I also want to see your toes
This is awesome. I kept throwing the board out in front of me and thought I was screwing up my flick. To compensate I started flicking down more. Gotta go back to throwing it out again and work on getting that . 😎👍👍
I landed my first kickflip yesterday and I can definitely say that it was because of this video. The tip to lift my back leg was huge, best feeling ever to land that
Bro thank you sm I had kickflip perfect last year and then I started learning bs flip and my kickflip never stayed strait and this video helped me sm😁😁
Great video man, I'm just getting back into skateboarding after stopping for like 12 years, and I'm trying to regain my kickflips. You go over a lot of things that I've never seen in other kickflip tutorial videos. I'm getting really close but for some reason I always land with my back foot on the board and can't get my front foot on. I think it probably has to do with not aiming for the nose. The day before this I spent half an hour not landing a single one and getting frustrated, I watched this today and I landed three in ten minutes thank you for real

FYI: there are no skateboarding tutorials on skillshare.
Nah, they aint got non lol.

Thanks for sharing.
Your friend seems like he breaks tricks down like Rodney Mullen. It's like y'all study the physics of skating and shit.
yeah he really understand it
Sober minds man
The skateboard definitely has some complex physics. Ride long enough and your brain starts to just naturally make changes.
Skateboarding is literally 100% physics. If you think of it that way, it's just copy and pasting concepts
