      so boxers, football players, rugby players, and MMA fighters everywhere spend their careers being knocked in the head and you are worried about these guys -.- they are pro paralympic swimmers so dont feel sorry for them. and full speed for them in the water is walking pace for someone on land. just go and walk slowly into a soft dry wall and you will see how it feels. The Omega pads also have quite a bit of give to them.

    the idea of paralympics is great to see people who lost limbs or were born deformed have a chance to be Olympians . the only thing wrong with it is that it's hard to judge if a person is qualified or not because it's not fair for others. is a guy missing two legs capable of competing with a guy who lost two arms

    • @paralympics
      @paralympics  8 лет назад +51

      +‫عامر البلهموطي‬‎ Paralympic classification in swimming can be quite hard for people to understand, so hopefully this helps.
      The short answer to your question is that even though the impairments are different, the impact of their impairment on their ability to swim is the same.
      Here is a more detailed answer:
      The sport class names in swimming consist of a prefix “S”, ”SB” or “SM” and a number. The prefixes stand for the event and the number indicates the sport class the athlete competes in the respective event.The prefixes stand for:• S: Freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events• SB: Breaststroke• SM: Individual medleySport classes 1-10: Physical impairmentThere are 10 different S and SM sport classes, numbered 1-10, and nine SB sport classes, numbered 1-9, for athletes with a physical impairment. A lower number indicates a more severe activity limitation than a higher number.As you mentioned, athletes with different impairment types compete against each other. The impact of their impairment on swim performance, however, is similar.Sport classes 11-13: Visual ImpairmentSport class 14: Intellectual impairmentThere is more info here: www.paralympic.org/swimming/classification
