You went through that water like fire through bushes. When I swim, there is a tidal wave mini tsunami from my arms splashing . If some one is in the lane next to me they get violently assaulted from my tecnique. Second, my legs sink like the titanic. I'm a breathless n panting mess by the time I get to the end of the pool from kicking so hard to keep my legs up.

Try to keep your fingers together, stretch out your arm, enter the water like a knife in butter, and pull back to your hip. As for kicking, keep your legs straight as a board.

I am 11 and am looking to beat this other 11 year old girl who is way faster. Her time in 50 yard freestyle is about 27 seconds. Mine is five seconds slower, and I've been asking teenagers in my swim group about it. No luck. So my mom texted this video a few minutes ago and I'm already using some parts, like I notice our strokes and pace seemed identical, but I don't kick or balance. At all. So I have to work on that

A lot of thinking comes "after" swimming (our mind is empty while swimming), like as we all get used to clean up our body but we have to learn how to clean our mind for entire life. Swimming give me the chance to mind each and every body's movement and posture. But running still my favourite exercise, it's meditation.

This is a fantastic video, and your instruction regarding energy conservation is spot on for distance swimming. One additional suggestion for beginners is to keep your “head down”, which will help keep your body horizontal. Think of bow and stern - head above water will cause back of body to sink deeper below water - which slows down your glide. This is by far the BEST SWIM VIDEO I’ve seen on RUclips. And agree, your cameraman was an MVP.

This is such a good video. I’ve been using this technique for a while now, and last week I finally got what you were telling me all along: feel the water!
I’d gotten faster, sure, but I wasn’t able to truly enjoy myself in the water. It just didn’t feel very comfortable. The most important part for me was to realize that the glide needed to be constant. So the strokes didn’t need to be more powerful, they needed to happen just a fraction of a second faster (of course, more power could have worked too). Now I’m gliding through the water, feeling like a true waterbender. Thank you so very much good sir!

I’ve just tried this technique for the first time today, and I have the following notes:
1- It saves oxygen as hell. I didn’t get out of breath as I’m used to.
2- It rides the water way more smoother & quieter.
3- At first it was difficult to synchronize my limbs, but with using fins it gets a lot easier to get the job done.
4- It made me realize that I use my legs more than necessary, despite I thought otherwise.
5- Now I realized why I get out of breath sooner than expected.
6- I wonder whether it makes difference syncing the right with right, or the most important is to do only 1 kick for each stroke regardless.

    • @baronealbert

I wonder about point 6 too. I alwasy find easier (I would also say natural) to pull right and kick left, so i'm curious to know if that would make that much difference, since chaning this habit would be quite hard....!

    I'm impressed.
Very recently, due to some work-related problems, I've had to sort of speed-run through basin-lifeguard training (not sure if that's the correct English word for it).
I swam a lot as a kid, but haven't been in water for five years (till about a week ago), and hadn't really swam for about 15 years. Suddenly, I had to learn to swim, and I had to be able to do it on time, problem was that I wasn't very fast (I could just about do it on time, but not consistently,, I mean, it'd only had a week to train while still balancing school and work, and you do use a lot of new muscles).
So, I took to RUclips, found your videos, watched them, and pretend-practiced on my couch as I was busy with work, and couldn't make the opening hours of the swimming center).
By following your instructions, I went from 25 meters crawl in 30 seconds, being fairly tired and out of breath, to doing 25 meters crawl in 22, and having no shortness of breath or even feeling tired. ON MY FIRST TRY BACK IN THE WATER.
This one timed exercise was stressing me out a bit. Thank you so much for your videos, I am no longer stressed.
I will keep practicing, not that I need it, but for fun. I'm sure I'll get even better, and get to a point where I too can say that I: Swim fast

That's a great symbol. I believe this symbol says, swim like Impossible(challenging). That's a man swimming towards viewers with one hand inside the water(5dots: hands inside water), other hand outside the water and head at the middle. The man is swimming through Squared Circle (Mathematician thought it is impossible to built Squared circle with same area π i.e. trying to do something Impossible)😁..

I did a lot of swimming, short distance and medium distance (1.5km). I like that gliding is in focus with that „arrow freestyle“. I might be wrong, but Ian Thorpe (AUS) swam like that. Best idea here and enlighting explanation was „listenening“ to your stroke. Never ever was I instructed to listen. Great tip.

@@quickpresent8987 Depends on you but as a rule slower kick is better for longer distances.
You use less oxygen as your legs need more then your other muscles as there a lot bigger.
Edit: This is basically how I have kicked most of my life, I can get up to a 5 now after years of focusing on that training, but only for 100LCM at best.
But my mate can do 12 kicks but he also does 50m LC free in 22seconds me only a 25.

@@quickpresent8987 To be a better swimmer you must get out of the comfort zone. I can do 5k but I'm not that fast. I tried to improve by improving my kick and overall reach and it worked up to a point. I wanted to improve more and kicking faster is something I'm working on right now (results are very good). P.s. remember to also work on the pull strenght and keeping your core tight (squeeze your ass till it becomes normal). P.p.s. if you swim in open water (and don't have pools like in my place) use elastic bends during the cold times, you have plenty of instructions for improving your body fitness level.

The Tshirt drawing is the five fingers of the forward hand the left side is the pull stroke hand and elbow and the circle in the middle is the head with the blue lines of the water surface.. Great teaching. And it reminds me of the book, The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle. Who defined a similar system of breaking down a skill into small pieces and practicing them in any order. Then putting them all together. It's what I do with teaching the movement of alpine skiing here in Montana. Thanks for you teachings! Peace

Incredible. I guess this is for intermediates, not beginners, because the only thing I can focus on while "swimming" is not drowning. And the not drowning part works quite well as long as I put 100% of my attention on it. This video motivates me to keep practicing until I automate the not drowning and being able to focus on technique. Good news: I can start the stretching exercise today.

Thanks for this great video. I want to learn to swim like that! I have one question about your kicking rhythm. You kick with your left leg while your left arm pulls and kick with your right leg while your right arm while your right arm pulls. What would the effect be of doing it the other way round, i.e. kicking with your left leg while your right arm pulls and kicking with your right leg while your left arm pulls? The reason why I'm asking is because that is how I kick, and I'm wondering whether I should retrain my kicking habit to kick the way that you recommend.

There's only one problem I have with these training videos: you always have the whole lane to yourself to do your exercises. In reality this never happens (at least not in my part of the world). You can not just stop after 1 or 2 strokes, the people behind you will be extremely annoyed! So maybe do a video sometime "exercises in a crowded pool"? That could be fun 😄
