Hilarious given the Rivian R1T, a significantly superior vehicle in every single aspect, will likely be only a few thousand dollars more expensive when it finally arrives.
There aren't any upsides for private buyers, really, except for those who specifically want something green and thus don't look at the Raptor as a rival (and perhaps view the pricing similarity as irrelevant, given EVs are always more expensive than equivalent options). LDV maintains it's aiming at fleets - but I'd love to chat with any fleet manager that prioritises a green motor over the safety of its drivers, given all the kit that's missing from this one. - Mike Stevens
....doubt its a government tax. The Australian government is falling over itself trying to convince Aussies that EV car will help save Koalas and delay Pacific atolls going under sea level.
So you can’t load it up, it’ll stuff the range. You can’t tow very far… range issues. Can’t take it off road… range issues. I certainly wouldn’t take a high voltage vehicle near a river crossing. The cold reduces the range and they blow up in the heat. A tradie can’t afford to be spending hours waiting for a charge, can’t charge it on site. To top it off it’s massively more expensive. When someone takes one through the tanami and the Simpson for several weeks camping get back to me. Don’t get me started on the damage on rutted roads. An EVs only use is as a second city only car to go to the shops and pick up the kids.
Yeah…..nah 🤦♂️ $100k for that……good luck!!!! I’ve got my new Ranger Sport V6….cost me $71.9k drive away, quiet & powerful. Tow my 2.5T caravan with ease & go 4x4 places 👍👍
Yep... But LDV is just starting. Remember Kia and Hyundai before.. now it's very costly. It takes 40 years to fully developed an ICE engine. How about now when development is so fast. They need to bring the Ford pick up trucks and mach E. Too slow for ford. Byd, Tesla, Nissan,Kia, Hyundai. Are just a few and more are coming.
@@jackman2865 You've completely missed the point. If an electric LDV costs 93k how much do you think an electric ranger or hilux will cost? Well over $110,000, your average Joe won't be buying them.
Our work in NZ is rolling them out. Work mate drove from Auckland to Taupo and ran it flat just outside of town. To be fair he was warned that the range given on the dash is very optimistic but travelled far less than the given rainge. Reckons he tried to take it easy too
after watching many BEV truck reviews by now and reading the feedback from those who need (not want) trucks/utes #1 if you need a truck/ute go for a diesel #2 if you think a truck/ute looks cool and drive it in a city and/or non mission critical/work purposes (and have $$ to burn) feel free to go for a BEV truck
I honestly don't want my council buying these and wasting rate payers money. $50K more than the ice version which has 4wd. If the average Joe blow will do 10K kilomertres per year then it will take 20 years to make it worthwhile at current diesel prices. And possibly 2 new battery packs which are expensive. You still need to pay to charge it too. Nonsense I reckon.
It should have started around $65k. Vehicles that are electric vs petrol are usually only 50% more expensive. LDV more than doubles the price and then gives you less features, no four wheel drive, lower tow rating, and a worse warranty? I think they will have to go back to the drawing boards if they want the ute to sell.
Which fleet manager would buy that? Could we find out the type of business that needs an EV ute? And do a range test see how much of that 330kms can handle a payload of 600kgs.
...ACT Government Fleet....and maybe the ACT Government will force tradies to have utes like this if they want to win government contracts. They are weird in Canberra.
The ute costs $93,000.00 but the question is will it maintain its resale value like 3 years after you purchase it? The Hilux does due its long established reputation of being reliable, durable and with exceptional spare parts availablity. If it doesn't then it's going to be a lot of money to lose. I suspect it won't because at the end of the day it's just an LDV made in China.
One plus is that there's plenty of room to bolt a GM6/71 blower thru the bonnet with fake side pipes, better throw on a mad skull shifter and slam it on billets
okay, I Guess the only question for me really, is what market are they playing for??? I can see this being a great workshop truck, the banger ute that a workshop has for picking up smoko, or getting a quick delivery, and maybe light courier work as a work shop hack might well do (think the role of the old ranger/courier, or the 2wd hilux etc maybe great for the tradie or landscaper, or jims mower guy, where all the work is local, and the range is less important, and that would really lower the running costs I dont see this really (like really really) as a consumer dual cab replacement, where it is more about life style, its just not there, and not just with range it might make for an interesting mine truck concept tbh, (think underground) where the investment in charging could easily be met, however, the truck is no where near that level, and would need a lot of refinement so where is the real market for it?? (if it had a small range extender or an inverter to accept solar charge, that would make it an interesting investment for a farmer etc
It is a fob pocket in a pair of undies. 330km range cut to 160km with a one tonne tradie's trailer less range loss due to high temps in Australia impacting battery output and the drain from running air con all the time. No spare, so any puncture picked up on a job site better be sealed by the repair kit. On a muddy work site the lack of 4WD will be a problem. Maybe another tradie with a Hilux or Ranger can tow your trailer to the road for you. Same problems with rural use and not enough towing capacity or range for a caravaners. At its price it leaves only the Mosman/Toorak tractor market where this low status Chinese brand competes with better equipped 4WDs or EVs with prestige badges.
At $93k, surely any business would be better off buying a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y with a towball/trailer?!? This price is madness! Surely cheaper to buy an ICE car and pay ~25k for ‘EV conversion’…?
Yeah model 3 taken too with a grinder an a bit of welding is all l need. Looks like my 30 year old Subaru Brumby/Brat is gunna have to keep going a bit longer
Well they really did a crap job of that. Looks like they just wanted to have the first full electric ute in Oz and didn't care that it's basically useless.
Stupidly expensive, 2 wheel drive, bugger all towing capacity, no spare wheel, no cruise control, very limited range ( halved when towing your small load ), approximately 45 hours to charge on a standard home socket, made in China etc etc! Give me a Ram 1500 or Raptor any day!

Shocking
The motor attached to the diff on the axle, OMG what a POS.
I have a LDV t60 Diesel, LDV couldn’t get the electric in that right….I only can imagine what a nightmare this would be😂😂😂
72k AUD in NZ? Anyone know why?
NZ govt has a zero emissions rebate for EV's, effectively a $8k discount on new EV's and $3.5k for used vehicles

They're bringing out an EV people mover as well, that one is probably more suited. I can't see a use case scenario for this one at all.

It crashed to $42000 in nz right now, I would consider to buy one if it's below $35000, LOL
$93k is a huge investment. I don’t have faith in a Chinese brand as they tend to lose so much in resale value. So in conclusion, pass
One plus is that there's plenty of room to bolt a GM6/71 blower thru the bonnet with fake side pipes, better throw on a mad skull shifter and slam it on billets
Is seems this is just a proof of concept that LDV decided to sell before it was ready for market to capitalise on the hype for electric vehicles.
