I use stranded cotton embroidery thread( Brands - DMC/Anchor) for my embroidery. They are also called as cotton embroidery floss. They normally come in skeins. The thread in the skein is made of 6 separable fine threads/strands. (Means you can sperate the thread in the skein into 6 different strands/threads). So, for our projects, we can either use the whole thread in the skein as it is( we call it 6 strands of floss/thread) or we can separate the strands and use # no of strands of floss. I hope my answer will help you. All the very best with your embroidery journey. Enjoy !! ❤
❤❤ You can insert the needle down, secure the previous thread with a knot and start with a new thread. Please check this tutorial, process is shown there ruclips.net/video/ILybl3prcN4/видео.htmlsi=H1YDB9sy_WxGtTib

Sorry, very new to this, what do you mean by "# strands of floss"? Is that the type of thread you buy?
