I'm sad that this line died exactly when it felt that it was getting better with extra fancy and extra fly
I guess Mattel ran out of ideas of making them look Extra. I knew when Minis happened it was the end of a franchise.
Like Monster High G2, they made a new family for some reason. And worse there were no elbow and knee articulation.
Ever After High when Enchantimals appeared (and scary Disney reasons).
If Barbie Dream Besties start having no articulation and children. They're cancelling someday soon.
Not surprised that this line was canceled i saw so many at discount stores especially the Alien theme one. I got a couple. I actually only got the Extra Fancy pink dress just for her dress. So many of my Looks dolls have worn that dress.
I've never been too into this line but I absolutely LOVE 10.It's like bo-ho meets cottage gore meets cottage core meets flower power meets pastel floral. I just love it.

I personally loved the Extra minis I thought their design were more subdued, I think their clothes were better designed. I also thought their scale was cute and easier to display because they take up less space. I eventually picked up a couple of full size Barbie Extra that I thought had a cohesive look.
I think it was mainly the faces that ended up not working for me, though I do agree the scale and the clothing were pretty nice
i enjoyed the barbie extra line and ended up collecting a good number of these, but i agree with your analysis that the designs feel pretty unbalanced and top-heavy. i think a lot of them could’ve benefited from slightly better quality, too, so these dolls do have a lot of potential for restyling and customizing, but not everyone wants a “project” doll, so i think that’s possibly a deterrent. most of my barbie extras are still in box, mainly for space reasons, but i did unbox the pink-haired deluxe doll and i do enjoy redressing her periodically. her hair is AWFUL though 😩 i like crimps but it’s crimped poly, and it was such an unmanageable mess i ended up cutting half of it off.
Too bad they have canceled the line at the moment it has finally found its style (with the EXTRA Fancy and the EXTRA Fly). Before that, the dolls look like children taking random clothes from their big sister's wardrobe and putting them together without any idea of what fashion is. Hopefully, there was some cohesive and good looks sometimes.

The only one I own is #14. Her pink Barbie logo outfit is so fabulous. Her hairstyle and face is gorgeous too.
I keep thinking of buying#20 with the cardigan. Her outfit is so cute. I mostly collect MH, RH and Bratz so I don't buy Barbie much.
You summed it up well at the final Barbie here - a lot of the reason Barbie Extra felt held back in design department, was that it was most of the time just very inconsistent: random color combinations, random mix and match - but not in a way that felt intentional or that you could see where they were coming from. I think its why the good examples of the line (like extra fly) felt really GOOD in comparison, because there was a clear theming to latch onto and the "extra" pieces didnt feel as random, but more like an intentional "funky" add-on to a themed outfit. But with earlier entries, we mainly got weird mismatched colors and patterns and silhouettes that just made no sense. I honestly can see why it didn't click as much with children as OMG did (cuz lets be frank, BE was there to compete with OMG), because OMG might be "extra" but they always have a super strong theming. You can always tell what the character is supposed to be and I think children see it too, even tho they might not be aware of it. Even from a play value pov its easier to play with a doll (or project traits into one) that has a clear character or theming than this random nonsense.

Its such a shame you didn't like #20, its literally the ONLY barbie I own because I fell in love with it at first sight. But I love pastels and I knit so I'm biased,,,,
I think it's one of the best ones! The only one I own is #14 but Ive almost bought #20 soo many times and I will one day. I love her outfit. Only reason I haven't bought her yet is I collect other doll brands more than Barbie.
The Millie face always stops me liking a doll. I will probably love any doll that has the Odille sculpt.
I’m so sorry you keep having technical difficulties!! For the braided one (I think number 4) that you fixed in a previous video, I actually liked her jacket the least and thinks she looks much better without it 😂 (though her green shoes still don’t make sense to me!)
I really appreciate you saying how Barbie’s are too top heavy because now I can see it all the time whereas I never paid attention to them that way before.
I like number 9 because of the alligator pet because it’s so random (not enough to have bought her though 😅)

If number 16 was in pink, I’d get her since she reminded me of Elle Woods from Legally Blonde (and yes I’m pretty sure that the Millie sculpt).
It’s so weird and sad they decided to cancel the line when the Extra Fly Line was so well done and cohesive!
I don't have full-size dolls in the Barbie Extra line may be due to the fact they are too Extra in outfits for me
It’s sad but also not really surprising that this line was cancelled the extra fly and extra fancy dolls are definitely the best ones. Consistency was a really big problem with this line some dolls would have a really nice colour pallet or a nice theme while others would have way too many colour and patterns that it made them look really garish.
I loved this video and I was really waiting for it, even though it took me almost an hour & half to watch it (toddler dragging every 5 minutes to show me stuff 😂😂). I totally agree with you about the graphic messages, though I understand that these are typically targeted to children . I personally dont believe that slogans work with children but I can see why a company feels the need to use positive affirmations. I was also happy with the roasting moment with (dont remember wich number) heels and socks doll, it makes me laugh a lot when you do that, and thank you for it because sometimes I have tough days and I need this laughter time. Also Barbie extra 9, this rainbow dress with no letters and a flocked shave, I would have bought her first.

The Barbies that came towards the end are some of the best of the last decade but there are also some design choices..which are of their time and target audience for sure😂
The stole thing is so funny bc my cat's favorite toy for a bit was the g3 base Cleo's jacket lol
Barbie Extra 16 is my favourite play line Barbie doll in recent memory. I’m thinking of getting a duplicate of her.

I love the purple haired Barbie in the vanity set. I didn’t care for her clothes, but that face! And the hair. My all time favorite extra doll. Her lime green jacket was cool, but I can never make the jackets on these dolls look right. What do you think of this doll, and where would she rank in your opinion?
Omg I totally forgot about her! I’d probably say she’s fine. I like the base doll and the checkered pieces, less so the jacket…mostly I wish she hadn’t come with a vanity playset cause if the whole budget went to the doll she might have been killer
