Went to see Metallica and Slayer in Stockholm last summer. Mastodon was also there, obviously I didn't know them. But now, I Iike Mastodon more than both of the two bands above. So supporting bigger bands aint so bad Mastodon! You at least reached me
Johanautchin I know what you mean. I saw Clutch last fall in Norfolk, VA. I've been a fan of Clutch for decades. They were touring with Lionize. Never heard of Lionize aside from a marketing email because I bought clutch tickets. Lionize blew me away, they're fantastic live and they moved the crowd. I bought everything they ever recorded off of Amazon. Starting the next day, Amazon wouldn't leave me alone about some random band called Mastodon. For months Amazon kept recommending them almost daily and I kept ignoring them. I was like who?!?!? Once more 'round the sun, yeah right... Then Clutch announced their 2015 tour with Mastodon and it all started to made sense. I figured if they're alright with Clutch, then they can't be all that bad. I look 'em up, oh hey, 2 decades worth of albums and holy cow, they were prolific. I listened and my jaw hit the floor. All 5 of them. I looked like the thing on the cover of The Hunter. I have since bought everything that Mastodon has ever recorded (thanks Amazon) and can't stop listening to ALL of it. These guys DO understand what it means to create timeless music. The more I read about what I missed, like their VMA "performances" and their past interviews, the more I like them. They seem to understand heavy metal more than the actual forefathers of heavy metal. They ARE metal. Mastodon has to go down in history as the greatest opening act I've never seen. Getting a leg up from an established band definitely helps! On their current tour, they appear to be alternating the headline act with Clutch in different cities. Now if Baltimore can just stop rioting and burning long enough for me to make the show...
Jafromobile man, u waaay behind on mastodon. kinda like i am on this reply.......lol. go get there leviathan and remission for theyre crazy viking barbarian type metal. the newer stuff is more a rock progressive type groove like clutch etc.....now i gatta go check that other band out u were talking about cause ive never heard of them.......lol (not clutch the other band)
Brann is on something right now. The whole band is so humble its insane. Its funny when they do interviews all of them are so low key. And they speak as if they're inside a library. You would never know they scream their lungs out for a living. They kick so much ass \m/
They're so fucking funny, which makes them even more metal, because it shows how fucking effortlessly metal they are. They're metal even when they're being goofy.
Genuinely what makes these guys so great, they get the opportunity to do a talk on Rolling Stone, one of the biggest commercial sellers of all time and Troy talks about how he wants to grow a silver beard, get a belly and be called Skipper. Fucking love em haha
Saw that show in Dallas. Corrosion of Conformity was the opening act that night. Three of my favorite bands on the same tour. And it was my first show since getting out of a 4 month hospital stay. Magical shit, no doubt.
what a great band! innovators! nobody sounds like mastodon. their music is instantly recognizable. they have totally created their own thing, and that is just what metal needs right now! long live MASTODON!!!
Mastodon insipers me to make my own band. Mastodon gives me those dreams of being on a stage in front of millions and millions of people watching my band rock out. Thank you, and as the top comment says. Please mastodon never stop making music
I saw these guys when they opened for Maiden in Toronto in 2005 for the Eddie Rips up the World Tour - desperately wanted to see them live again ever since and HAVEN'T. Poor luck I suppose... At any rate, they earned my fandom with that show - absolutely killer.
These guys are freakin amazing!! I'm glad to see they're music is getting more accessible. The best music award goes to..........MASTODON!! Thanks for bringing metal back guys!!! Maybe soon we won't see Lil John and all that stupid ass "music" winning stupid ass awards and recognition. These guys deserve it all!
I saw this guys open for Metallica and I gotta say that for me (and people in the audience that know their stuff about music) they totally stole the show. One of the best and most underrated bands in current history. I want you back in Costa Rica !!!
@MetalMattSnyder haha I love the reference to King Diamond! awesome singer and music. "The 7th Day of July" is a killer song- the one that Brann sung in that bathroom
Its so crazy to know brann...he was from rochester...so was bill...they played in lethargy with erik burke (good dude) , i used to hit every show, commending brann for his insanely amazing drumming...i still love lethargy...they were kinda a human remains ripoff, but in a sick way...brann was definitely the backbone, and will always be mastodons backbone! Mastodon cant be one without him
Much respect for namedropping Bill Hicks when you used his joke. that's more than Dennis Leary did for the guy after using his material, that's for sure..
That makes me feel somewhat old hahaha.. I'm pretty sure I was like 15 when that album/song was released. I had already been into metal/heavier shit for a long time, but when I first heard "March of the Fire Ants" in 03/04 on a Relapse Records demo with diff bands from their label, I immediately loved it.. Looked to see who it was, and have loved em ever since. Ended up seeing them in 04, I think it was them, Killswitch Engage, and Slayer headlining (all original members it was badass).. Saw them a second time in 05 maybe 06. Even their album Remission was pretty different from most bands; even though it's a bit heavier than what they've released since. They were one of a few bands that were a pretty unique style and helped me start appreciating a lot more genres/subgenres. As I've got older I started enjoying anything from metal, death metal, classic rock, reggae, electronic, rap/hip hop (mostly older haha most new shit blows), etc.; and these guys definitely had an influence on that. Crazy it's already been about a decade since I last saw 'em, I'm overdue haha. I have to go one of the next times they're around Boston again. Really cool seeing how much their fanbase has grown/expanded, along with the band musically evolving. Seems all diff. ages are into em too. Shit, my dad liked them when I first showed him, he's who took me to see them with Slayer haha.. he prob enjoyed it as much as me.
So many big bands are such assholes for no reason, but I find that Mastodon are a group of such genuinely nice, warm guys. I'm impressed every time I hear them speak. They were even kind enough to respond to my own little interview. Most big bands don't give me the time of day, they're waaaay too high and mighty.
@kunphyouzed theyve already been!!!!!!!!!! they were there last yearman. the skipped of nashville. went to memphis and straight to knox. i live south of nashville and had finals. worst week knowing my favorite band was in the same state and not being able to see them
@renspwn He's talking about the movie "River's Edge" starring Keanu Reeves and Crispin Glover. A classic film about a murder in a relatively small town, it seems lighthearted at some points but has quite a few serious undertones. The soundtrack is amazing - lots of Slayer and Hallow's Eve. Check it out!
@samsmith09 Yea, I'm not sure what the deal is. There was a picture of him on their facebook album titled "New Album" (or something like that). He might have just been around the studio for all we know.
the chemistry between everyone in this band is amazing
Safety Stegasaurus
Agreed. Very rare
It's gotta be because of how drily funny everyone in the band is. The band that can joke together stays together.
@@maynordj some trash is okay!

Well, 7 years later - Troy is definitely on his way to a silver beard!
Yep.
I just saw them summer 2019 Troy is basically all gray now and Brent had really short hair.
That belly still taking time...but the silver is there.
He is fully there lol, silver beard and hair. Man looks like a silver lion
@@puppetmaster8551 he looks and sings like an epic Viking warrior
Such a great band.. Brann seems so fucking chilled out all of the time.
I met him briefly once. Really cool and laid back guy.
awesome :)
If king diamond ever calls it a day, Brann should fill in.
Genuinely what makes these guys so great, they get the opportunity to do a talk on Rolling Stone, one of the biggest commercial sellers of all time and Troy talks about how he wants to grow a silver beard, get a belly and be called Skipper. Fucking love em haha
Paid them dues! Mastodon is just so musically talented.
Brann is fucking hilarious
Brann is Bart Simpson
exactly
I was thinking he looks just like Philip J. Fry from Futurama xD
Afro Muzik 😯 wow! You’re so right!
Oh, that's where I recognize him from
There’s a newer episode where he plays drums too
mastodon ,high on fire , clutch and bls would be a awesome concert

One of the main reasons I like this band so much, the guys are so down to earth and they love maiden!
Last I saw Mastodon, Clutch was opening for them! Awesome Karma
Kids interview bands- slayer
Co-headline tour actually wasn't it?
Saw that show in Dallas. Corrosion of Conformity was the opening act that night. Three of my favorite bands on the same tour. And it was my first show since getting out of a 4 month hospital stay. Magical shit, no doubt.
These guys seem so cool, and their music is so unique and awesome, I love their vocal approach and how they're catchy while keeping it real!
"Maturing with Mastodon" makes so much sense. I wish more people could see it that way.
Clutch man! GOD BLESS CLUTCH! Thank you for helping Mastodon out!
what a great band! innovators! nobody sounds like mastodon. their music is instantly recognizable. they have totally created their own thing, and that is just what metal needs right now! long live MASTODON!!!
props for the bill hicks ref, I use that all the time
These guys, like many other bands, seem like a lot of fun to hang out with on a bus for weeks.
0:30 Nice Bill Hicks reference.
Holy fuck, Troy DOES have a big silver beard now
3:42
You must love this guys. They make awesome music and are pretty cool. Much more than you can say of most bands this days.
7th day of July 1777. badass song.
Gotta love a King Diamond fan
These guys are amazing. Mastodon RULE!
Mastodon insipers me to make my own band. Mastodon gives me those dreams of being on a stage in front of millions and millions of people watching my band rock out. Thank you, and as the top comment says. Please mastodon never stop making music
Hicks ref in under a minute, LEAD BASS
Brann kind of reminds me of Elvis. Anyone else see it?
He would do a killer impersonation
6soulcontrol i watched Elvis 68 comeback special with him. he is an Elvis fan. great guy
He sounds a little like him too
My god. That King Diamond impression is flawless.
They've done LSD on every album....that's what makes them so GOOD.
i went to school with brann dailor, it is a real trip to see him a big rock star...
Good to know metal is in good hands with these guys to carry on the good shit and tradition of METAL!!!
I saw these guys when they opened for Maiden in Toronto in 2005 for the Eddie Rips up the World Tour - desperately wanted to see them live again ever since and HAVEN'T. Poor luck I suppose...
At any rate, they earned my fandom with that show - absolutely killer.
Never has "No description." been more appropriate for a video
I started listening to Mastodon after seeing them open up for Metallica in 2012. Reached!

Bright eyes fading faster than stars falling
Clutch and Mastodon. Now that's a show I'd pay good money for!
River's Edge! Definitely an old favorite from my teens!
I just love the personalities of this damn band!
I saw this guys open for Metallica and I gotta say that for me (and people in the audience that know their stuff about music) they totally stole the show. One of the best and most underrated bands in current history. I want you back in Costa Rica !!!

Saw them on the BlackDiamondSkye Tour. It was epic. Two of my favourite bands (Mastodon and Deftones) at the same time? DP.
Great band, great personalities. Blood and thunder was the gateway to metal for me when i was 6

YES! More Brann falsetto!
Love the humour these guys have!
Hope you guys know the term lead bass was originally used for Paul McCartney and John Entwhistle.
I would have killed to see them open for maiden, can't believe they didn't get a good crowd reaction!
Cool him singing King Diamond...I lost it there!

Ah that's great man thank you, Blue Velvet is incredible! Time to watch River's Edge!
Hah, Jason Fenniger. I worked with him at Crowne Plaze Hotel. He was a chef. I grew up with Brann, i went to school with him.
gonna see mastodon on the 14th, gotta totally yell out HEY SKIPPER to troy, hope he cracks a smile haha
I was at Dave Grohl's birthday party. Name drop.
Long live Clutch!
The mob goes wild!
"This is Mastodon and you're watching Rolling Stone?" "Dot com, oh shit I can't say that can I? We're gonna get sued."
ROFLMAO
Troy's voice is epic.
River's Edge is a kickass move!
I met Brann and his wife and they were so nice! We just shot the shit and talked about Kroger. Down to earth guy.
@samsmith09 Yea, I'm not sure what the deal is. There was a picture of him on their facebook album titled "New Album" (or something like that). He might have just been around the studio for all we know.
Holy shit, even Troy's laugh has an awesome tone.
Brann is a beast! and troy is a side-kick beast ;)
@wizarda7x No, that's Mastodon playing in the background.
3:20 That song has a sick solo btw
Brann said his father gave him a tape with Blue Velvet and what other movie?
Rivers Edge, I think
ThePretarius Thanks!
Yep...Rivers Edge...weird but not quite the level of Blue Velvet weird
Thanks!
Troy’s vision came to fruition. He is fully silver now 🤣🤘🏻
i like brann's crockpot idea. super true.
mastadon is playing in the background, i hear oblivion.
that king impersonation is great!!!
@psyckla5 Bill Hicks was a musician. He still is, just somewhere else beyond our comprehension. Have a happy one brother.
I knew bran danced with Lucy, you can always see it in someone’s Aura
“It’s a crock-pot thing”. Truer words have never been spoken.
i wanna party with these guys!
best drummer that people know rm
"Yer Crazy."
" I am Crazy, I'm Cool." 😃🤘
@bls31401 curl of the burl, oblivion, the sparrow, dry bone valley, and I think parts of Last Baron
I have the same dream as Sanders. I wanna grow old with a big beard playing country music.
the song is oblivion. the band is mastodon
They could be reading a soufle recipe, and they would still sound cool and funny. They're just THAT awesome lol
seen mastodon live a few weeks ago and now he really has a fuckin' silver beard, guess now they all call him skipper ahahaha
@rhcp4565 yay a fellow chilis fan enjoys mastodon. Imagine Flea rockin out with these dudes
@brodie60
You mean one of the dozens of alternatives that already exist?
"I play the bass, the lead bass"
@prutz43 yes, the whole album is pretty his baby, very interesting and beautiful concept album
These two seem pretty laid back.
"I'm his sidekick, Troy. I play the bass, lead bass." lmfao
what was the bill hicks line?
I'm having a hard time listening to them talk with oblivion playing in the background hahaha
