from the comments on this video it's easy to tell that a lot of these posters have no first hand experience with a CR500. They are HARD to start and foul plugs very easily at low speeds with the stock jetting. A smaller pilot jet will clean up the bottom and virtually eliminates the fouling but they are still very hard to start. I think the problem is in the kick start ratio Honda chose for this engine to make it easier to start. It kicks over very easily especially for a big with this displacement unfortunately you don't get enough revolutions, making it hard to start. Once started there is nothing like it except maybe a KX500. In the desert, this is my favorite bike of all time to ride. There is nothing more exciting than having a bike that will pull 4th gear wheelies in a sand wash by simply twisting the throttle.....
I always remember my dad showing me how to start his BSA 650 twin in his slippers😂, I was impressed to say the least. I also managed to master kick starting the beast as a young boy but I didn't take the slipper route
I had a 86 Cr 500. I was in Slave Lake Alberta in a motor cycle shop and they had one. I asked if I could start the bike. He said if you can start it wearing those shoes you can take it for the weekend. It fired first kick. They all looked at me like I was a god. Needless to say I took it for a rip. Apparently know one in the shop could get it going.
I love the older bikes especially from the mid to late 80s they are a more comfortable ride. That bike is a fucking beast! I’d love to take it for a rip
Old I know , but I’m ALWAYS amazed at people pumping the throttle on carbs that don’t have a pump. It does exactly nothing.

Great kickstarting of that beast without biker boots!
Awesome bike!!! 87's were one of my favorite, love the red orange plastic and blue seat with gold anodized rims!!!
I would like to see him on the next GTA as playable character
