I'm a broke 20 yr old college student from MI, and my 97 gmc was getting rust pretty nasty. Like you, I've never done this type of work before, I spent a few hundred on the panels and just did it myself, the garage wanted $2400 for the work, I saved a ton I just finished restoring all the rust on the cab and rockers from watching your vids, and it looks as if it never had rust on it ever. Thanks so much buddy! Hope your truck comes out great!
I dont know how anyone could give you a thumbs down. You do great work, always checking your lines. You explain things thoroughly, and I havnt heard one swear word. You are a natural in front of the camera. Thanks for all of the help and info.
Nice Job, I'm from Detroit and we used to do that in our garages here. This is custom stuff you don't see to many people that can do it that good. Nice. My wife has a 1995 Sonoma and it needs too much to worry about. We are getting her a new vehicle.. But I still love to do this kind of work.
Gibson, you are a truly talented guy, but, more than anything, you are an artist. When you explain what you are doing, there is always a tone of excitement and genuine love for the work you are doing. I am a retired high school English teacher from Canada. I watch you because I want to learn how to do body work, but I also watch you because you are such a gifted teacher. You present information at a perfect pace, you explain what you are thinking and why you are doing things the way you do them.
A tip on making the panels fit with the perfect gap for welding ......... Clap your new panel over the old one , use a cutoff wheel to cut both panels at 1 time ... This will leave both panels cut the exact same way , and leave a perfect gap for welding ......... The scribe method you were doing works but this is just a tip for those who may not know it ...
If you clamp and cut both panels at the same time the size of the cut off wheel will leave a gap. I like to get this gap smaller. You can cut the cab then cut the panel a little bigger and grind it to fit.
Getting subscribers only happens if and when you are doing something that people are actually interested in and you do have an interesting project to work on and are making great videos of that project. Just watching the first few videos that I have seen of your project tells me that your someone who wants to do a nice job and are going at the project in a way to end up with a great restored truck and are not trying to short cut the quality. Keep up the great work and videos, Cheers OLDDUDE
Brother your videos are awsome, I can't thank you enough. I recently bought and started body work on a '68 f100 and I watch your videos as a learning tool. Ordered my cab corners yesterday and will be starting next weekend. Keep up the awsome work, I can really use the help.
Great job explaining things. Some people just assume you know everything and leave out steps. You're very thorough and that good old southern accent is easy listening. Keep up the great work and I've subscribed!
Fantastic video showing that this type if work is as much of an art as it is a science. It takes time and patience to make a repair like this. Many hours.
I’m a little late to the show but really nice for your first one. I’m about to dig into my first C10 so I could only hope for the same results. Thanks for the vid!
This guy knows how to make a 'How to Vid"! Awesome work Gibson63. Wish their were more like you. Amazing welding and bodywork skills as well. I'm picking up a 67 C10 next week and will be checking out your other vids. Way to go!
Thnks for the video. Just drank my morning coffee and i am about to go into the shop to do cab corners on a 79 f250.Just watching the vid and getting some usefull information from comments reallly helps.
Ive seen most of your videos, they are so helpfull and informative for a newby like me. I like how long the videos are and that you leave no stone unturned.
I have a 66 Chev PU that needs much of the same work, you have inspired me to undertake this project, I look forward to your completed project. Great work--great tips--thank you for the vids of your work!!!
I'd like to get one of these pickups to pull my retro trailer. I know whatever I get will need some work. Thanks for posting videos on what you did to fix yours!
Thanks, this was great and it sure was nice to see it in high speed time lapse, our brains can handle it and we can get a lot more info in a given amount of time. May be we can apply this to all learning. 92 Ford F250 HD cab corner today.
I must congratulate u on ur videos.. have watched numerous work by others and they can't hold a candle to urs. Keep up the excellent work u do as ur instructional manners are tops. I am now motivated to tackle the smtl work on my 56 f100. You have provided the BEST dos and don'ts to body metal work
Exellent videos, watched the rust repairs many times. Will be doing similar repairs on my 76 F100. Well explained. Ideal for a first timer like myself. Ish from South Africa. Exellent wokmanship as well.
I have a bad mount on the drivers side up front ! the bracket is still good on my 99 blazer, just the rubber mount is bad ! thanks for the video, I appreciate it !
Thanks for the info! I have a 68 chevy truck that needs both corners done, but with your help, I think I can, I think I can! Like the little engine that could lol!
Great vids bro..you insprie me ..You have some major bid balls for a first timer !! ..I have a '66 short step that I will be doing the same thing to ....I am going with the victory red too now..it was going to be fire engine red ,but i change now...If you overlay one piece with the new one is a good choice ,but its not a definite ...You have to deal with the thickness of the metal .....once you cut too much.... its the point of no return..,... its better to hit the mark the first time ...
This helps me alot...I have a 67 C-10 that I'm working on and they are in desperate need of cab corners, fender corners and rocker panels. Will a Flux welder work just as good with this kind of work, this will be my first time and I know I'll be messing something up. Thanks for the vids
i think i was one of your first subscribers i remember when these videos were new in my feed all I can say is WOW so many views now hundreds of thousands! these have taught me a lot over the years especially those nights where I binge watch this stuff to learn all night. good job!!
Im sure people use fiberglass in area with small rust ,but I,ll rather cut the rust out and replace it with new metal .i got my cab corners from classic parts they fit realy good got the body work done on the cab now thanks for watching. Steve
Hey 63... I'm just curious, is that cab corner an exact replacement part or was it made as an overlay of the exact part. Overlays never fit quite right because they are one thickness of metal bigger than original. Usually if an overlay fits good in the door opening it will end up with a bulge in the middle if you try to fit it to the bottom flange at the bottom back of the cab. Good work! I like your casual southern style!
I have seen people use these cab corners as an overlap but I wouldn't recommend it I cut mine to fit for a butt weld don't remember the thickness but kept everything flush with the outside panel and welded it up thanks for watching man take it easy
Great job, I have a 59 GMC that has rotted cab corners about as bad as yours. I was wondering, would the bed have to be removed in order to replace them?

My friend Pete gave you a shout out. I have watched several of your videos on this truck. You have a real art. I love your work.
Don Grider thanks for watching
I wish u lived in the RGV u make it look so easy. I began on my 65 gmc and i hated it all ready but u have given me hope firefighter
I dont know how anyone could give you a thumbs down. You do great work, always checking your lines. You explain things thoroughly, and I havnt heard one swear word. You are a natural in front of the camera. Thanks for all of the help and info.

Glad to see u do that. Gotta put a cab corner on my 85 k20 and im not intimidated by it now. Thanks

Ive never done any body work in my life but you made that cab corner look pretty easy.

Good advise on panel scribing

t
+Ringo Gingo y
Ringo Gingo you could cut through both panels with a body saw it leaves a nice thin kerf.
I have a 63 c10 myself and this video gave me a little confidence of doing patch panels on mine.... Your definitely talented
Pro Tech tip...........Lap the new panel over the old and cut both at the same time. This is truly the best method !
Thanks for the tip
When you overlap what thickness of cutting wheel are you using?
