    Lots of work but you're a younger guy. I got luck on a 67 C10 truck that just came into my driveway one day with a family member dream of a truck, trailer and lawn service. As I did what cab rust it did have, electrical, V-belt to serpentine and replace glass seals, he quit. It's mine! What?
    Either way, This you going 100 MPH, taking one bite at a time and making it work.
    Aftermarket panel have two prices; what you pay to get them & the work it takes to make them fit & look like OEM.
    If they were exact, I guess a bunch of lawyers would show up somewhere screaming "Intellectual Property".
    Best at you bud. I remember day after day, 6AM to 9PM, then go home.

    Keep your eyes open for a used Whitney #5 Jr hand punch. I found one cheap at a yard sale missing a couple punches. They are still available so now I have the full set pretty cheap.

  • @markeholbrook
    @markeholbrook 7 лет назад +1

    I have a harbor freight flange tool that punches holes too. It's good if you want a flange instead of a butt weld. Eastwood sells a tool that makes a chamfer on the edges of metal that is being butt welded and also punches holes. The idea with the eastwood tool is you are filling in a little valley with weld, so it's stronger than a butt weld, and there is no place on the backside that is unsealed. It looks like it could be difficult to make everything fit right to me, but I might get one anyway. About $50 for it.

    • @Gibson63.
      @Gibson63.  7 лет назад

      Mark Holbrook I've seen this tool before don't really like the flange tool unless I have to use it, the hole punch would be cool

    • @markeholbrook
      @markeholbrook 7 лет назад

      The hole punch works good on the HF tool, can't say much about the durability, but no problems so far. It's on sale for like $38 now. It's way easier and faster than a drill to get the job done.

    so when welding the pieces - do you spot weld the whole thing ? just keep doing spot welds until its filled in? how do you treat the backside to stop any rust from the welds? Thanks

    • @Gibson63.
      @Gibson63.  5 лет назад +1

      Yes I keep running spot welds until I’m finished, take my time to keep from warping the panel. I do clean the spot welds on the backside and run some short strand fiber glass over the welds

    I couldn't quite tell for sure; but did you wrap the patch panel all the way around the front where it bends at a 90 and spot weld it in on the front, or did you make a vertical weld and not cut the inside of the door jamb?

    My dad and I did a 51 Chevy 10 years ago for my first car. still have it and it's due for another. I am thinking of going the easy (and expensive way) of buying all new fenders online. you think I'm losing the spirit of the truck by doing that?

    • @Gibson63.
      @Gibson63.  7 лет назад +2

      rlsukovaty go for the new fenders if the truck needs them but if you can repair them for cheaper I'd go that way to keep it original but that's up to you I don't think it would bring the truck down though
