When I was a delegate I had one politician come up to me saying that I looked so familiar to him as he pumped my hand with his introduction. He asked if we’d met. I said oh yes we’ve met but not in person until now. I introduced myself by name and he lowered his head and said “Oh Facebook”. He wasn’t so big and brave face to face. I’d called him out for telling a voter to get off his back about the fact that he had not even read a bill that he was voting for that was unconstitutional. He was pretty embarrassed and definitely deserved it.
Ever notice that the rhetoric from one side is always taken out of context and requires clarification, but rhetoric from the other side is always taken at literal face value, without any consideration that there might be a point of clarification.
Example: he (trump) has said the constitution should be dismantled. No he didn't. And for those that said he wants the constitution removed are the ones who HATE the constitution and want it removed SOP for the left: project onto others what you are guilty of.
"Go to the Capital and PEACEFULLY make your voices heard"..... They most certainly did NOT take that at literal face value. They twisted that into something COMPLETELY different. The media is no longer "media" they are the ministry of propaganda. This is becoming 1936 Germany. Absolutely sickening....
That would be repressive tolerance in action. People on the "right side of history" are allowed to do more or less whatever they want - remember that quite a few people _died_ in the fiery but peaceful protests, and that's never been properly addressed - but people on the _other_ side will in fact get thrown in jail for walking through an open door.

There was a reason that certain behaviors used to be disqualifiers for high-level public service. Adultery, plagiarism, impropriety, etc. Not because they were harmful in and of themselves, but because they were indicators of people being able to hold their base impulses in check, and conduct themselves honorably and decently - at least in their public personas. We've pretty much stopped doing that, and look how it's turning out.
Most people don’t know anything about their representatives other than D or R. If they “know” anything it’s usually half truths or lies from propaganda.
I don't think figures of power and influence have ever been held to that standard in practice(!), in any society. Power corrupts. Just look at the history of the catholic popes during the medieval and renaissance period. I think you can find individual examples of good faith actors, and perhaps even monastic orders or such with a reasonable track record, but I think the general trend is that those in power abuse their power, in some ways. Those who are above the law don't generally abide by the law.
Yes, character matters or should, as well as basic morality. If one lacks morals or character, they should not be expected to do what is best for our country.

It's a mischaracterization of her statement because the subject being discussed is rhetoric encouraging political violence; nothing in her tweet encourages violence.

When they said that I laughed and told them to get off my property because "if you consider that a rape threat, you're too stupid for me to have a conversation with and not get mad as hell"
I had to explain to 2 fbi ppl what "get fucked" means here. Between friends it's akin to "fuck off" (in a joking way), "get drunk", "get high", or even "go fuck your girl, were good here" I'd they mentioned their gf in a lovey dovey way. To non friends or people you don't like, "get fucked" could mean- go fuck yourself, fuck you, I don't like you, you're an idiot, that was dedrateR(read it backwards), or just something as simple as "I don't care" or "not interested" about the current topic. And they tried to claim it was a rape threat XD Now I have to be careful because they used that to put me on a list for other things. I think what they were trying to pin me with was terroristic threats. Because I regularly used to say things like "revolution is necessary and warranted, we need to vote out ALL the current government officials." I assume they listed me as such because to them, any form of revolution is violence and murder. In other words a threat to their power.

It's the right of every American to protest government officials for a redress of their grievances. I'm so impressed that Caraballo can actually state that a direct quote of a tweet is a 'mischaracterization" of her statement with a straight face. It takes brass ones to lie that confidently.
I actually disagree entirely, I think it’s a blatant and unimaginative way of trying to shame someone who said something objectively true. And is an unfortunate trend we see in US politics of blaming voters and constituents for politicians’ incompetence. Let’s be clear, no where in the tweets does it mention anything abt physical accosting, it constantly mentions public accost and civil duties. Why is this important? Because there is no room for violence in a civil democracy, but there is room for civil disobedience. That is to say, we make a deal with elected officials, if we put them in power, and pay our taxes and follow their laws, they protect our rights and liberties. If they fail to hold their end of the deal, it’s unconscionable for them to expect us to hold ours. So like, I’m sorry that this representative feels threatened and has been the victim of genuine crimes, but to blame this on the people who hold her accountable when she fails is so silly and corrupt. I’m not American, but this trend of politicians on both sides blaming voters and constituents for not voting, for trump, for Biden is so pathetic, recently Michelle Obama did this. Politicians need to give a reason for people to vote, for people to be energized and support candidates that actually help them. And they are failing terribly. So yes, justices, elected officials and anyone else in power should be publicly accosted for when they fail the people, it’s a civil duty because when you don’t do so, they will continue to fail you.
The problem is many people would never say these things to the face of the people they speak out against, but they hide behind tweets, etc on social media. People need to stop and think, would I actually say this to someone's face?! If not, then, it's probably inappropriate!
Criticism is one thing, Threats are a whole nother issue. When you threaten others, or call for their harm, then you have committed an act of violence.

Now do I think it should be divided the way it is, absolutely not, but there will always be sides. Also that phrase isn't from anywhere that I know of as I think it's just common sense. Some might be using it to try and shift blame with "what ifs" from actions of the "other side" but honestly I just think everyone needs to be held accountable for what they do, or don't do. I've made mistakes in my life and I've accepted the consequences if those mistakes came to light. I might've been pissed off at certain specifics in the situation, but the mistake was still mine so I couldn't blame others for me doing what I did. The problem I see lately though is that no one is holding any of the leadership accountable for their actions. I don't care if it's a Republican, Democrat, Liberal, talking monkey, or whatever, I think they need to be investigated and judged when credible misdeeds come to light. I personally would love it if our representatives would get back to actually representing the American people, but I doubt that's ever going to happen if we are being honest. Too many of them are more concerned with ensuring re-election than they are with improving the country if it means risking upsetting their districts.
That's why they always want to clear away the past and start from year zero. Throughout history, the far left was always looking for places to stash the threats they made, the violence they incited, and the bodies they generated. Consequence is anathema to their entitled sense of self worth.

There was a reason that certain behaviors used to be disqualifiers for high-level public service.

Too telling was the look on Raskin's face when El Caballo was squirming and saying that when she wrote to "accost them in public", she didn't say to accost them. She said it was "not an accurate characterization of her statements". It's interesting how brave and aggressive they are behind the wall of social media, but get them face to face, and somehow their words were misinterpreted.
Seriously. Had it been me saying it, I would have owned it. Outside of generally obvious sarcasm, I just don't say things I don't mean. Inciting violence is illegal and not protected by the First Amendment. It only takes narcissism, which runs rampant in their circles.
Funny how they're not nearly as badazz when they don't have a keyboard in front of em!!

@@rw5622 The supreme court needs to stop being partisan. They are keeping us from working on bettering the US by letting their personal religious beliefs infect the government. It's a blatant violation of the 1st amendment and they should all be impeached for it.
@@rw5622 But thats the problem, this increasing tribalism across the entire political spectrum. The fact that these groups seem to grow ever more exterme. There needs to be a fundamental re-examining of the US democratic system, root to branch.
@@rw5622 I agree that we should all be working together for a better America, but the opinion that there wouldn't be sides/groups is a little naive. Not everyone agrees on what is the best choice to make based on a multitude of reasons. Even staying away from hot button issues like abortion, same-sex marriage, and the second amendment, there are plenty of issues where people won't agree.
Over and over again, they hate it when their words are shown back to them. They think they are above reproach, beyond criticism.
That's why they always want to clear away the past and start from year zero. Throughout history, the far left was always looking for places to stash the threats they made, the violence they incited, and the bodies they generated. Consequence is anathema to their entitled sense of self worth.
