J. S. Bach’s music transcends the type of instruments that play it. A choir of kazoos playing a Bach composition would still sound unmistakably Bach. But since this piece and many others were composed for pipe organ, they are perfect for a brass choir. And this wonderful performance proves that. Majestic and glorious from the first bar. And the ending gave me chills.
I once orchestrated this piece for fun. This is brilliant. To play Bach, to read Bach, to experience even a small part of Bach is to glimpse into the mind of God. How lucky we are.
Complex? Yes, his work can be, although the Two Part Inventions are (apparently) simple. ☻ Insane? Not at all. There is an overarching logic to all of Bach's work. If he lived today and were a computer programmer he would be writing the most efficient and bulletproof code ever seen.
I heard this in the car today on the Classical channel. It gave me goosebumps! I played trumpet back my early years/Highschool, but this made me want to play the Baritone or a Tuba. The lows are hauntingly powerful.
This is absolutely stunning and what is more they are working as a true team, there is no conductor and that is incredible cohesion in an orchestra . As someone else stated Bach's music sound superb in any medium. This is by far one of my favourite Bach compositions and I think I have watched every version on RUclips and this is by far one of the best. I used to play cornet in brass bands and trumpet in big bands in my youth and organ later in life so I do appreciate true mastery.
There are 15 thumbs down. This is why I frequently despair for our society. I would have killed for access to performances like this 50+ years ago (when I was a teen). Now people have all these great performances and "meh... don't like it". Just screams out "notice me"!!!
Awesome indeed. This music is very profound and emotionally moving. One of Bach's greatest compositions in my opinion. One of the amazing things about Bach is that his music can sound great on any instrument.
Very good transcription and execution, the passacaglia works very well for Brass. I especially respond to the sensitivity of attack, sustain, modulation and decay - not just playing notes, but experiencing them, each one of them. The respect for phrasing is also apparent. It's not easy...
Ahh the brass, so perfect for the constant movement of baroque, like bubbles emerging en popping away. Etherial. When i meditate i meditate on baroque, no new age drone.
Excellent. I think a brass quintet is too small to do a piece like this justice. I wish the German Brass, also the size of this group, had a recording.
Simply AWESOME ! Personally I think J.S.Back music is the best music writed until now and if played from great musicians..... voila' the music become magical event. Thanks a lot for share, everyone should have the possibility to listen this great music without time.
So I just listened to both this version and the Chicago Symphony Brass recording (ruclips.net/video/bdKOvjQB3BE/видео.html). You guys compete with them, which.. damn! That's near impossible to do! Very well done!
Thank you for the link. In my opinion, CSO version is like rebuilding the organ with brass, which is very well controlled and quite faithful to the original compared to this, far more brass like arrangement and performance. Athough I like the sound quality of CSO, this version is more touchy to me.
I never believe God. But I felt the sensation as if something close to that descended to the hall through the sound at the climax of Fugue. I never felt the same way before although I am very familiar with this particular piece. I think Bach found the existence of something greater than the world we could usually sense, something beyond our comprehension, like Plato described once as Idea(some might call it God), the higher order of the universe if I name it, and tried to reach it through his composition. I don't know if it was an illusion or not, but my soul crying out it's real. It was so much fortunate for us that his language was music. ──Now this version is my very favorite besides Helmut Walcha's. It helps me to see the piece in a different perspective. Thank you so much. (edited August 16, 2020)
Atheist here too. And the greatness that this piece and recording convey seems pretty more than just human... If anything can make me believe in soul and something greater than us is this piece.
Yes but that’s only 0.08%. It’s less than a tenth of a percent. You can probably account for the majority of those being people clicking the button by mistake. Why not rejoice that 18000 people have seen this, and over 1300 have given it a thumbs up? Seems like despair is a bit unnecessary😂
How refreshing not to see classical musicians hamming it up while they play their instruments: gyrating back-and-forth, swaying to and fro, and making general spectacles of themselves. Just sober professionals doing their job and refusing to stand out as the center of attention.
That's great, but actually i don't see any sense in playing first basso exposition with such a power, and than following much softer. All charm of Passakaglia is to save basso continuo, in constant way.
This arrangement was created using Respighi's orchestration as a guide, and he chose to start his version with a stronger dynamic than is usually performed on the organ. You can hear his version here: ruclips.net/video/2EtLn6-6NYc/видео.html

See how angrily the organ is looking at them? "That's my piece, you job stealers!" ;)
Tuba player is awesome
Darn tootin. He sounds like a perfectly tuned organ pedal. Great arrangement to showcase both his sound and a tremendous ensemble.
Proof, once again, that Bach sounds superb, no matter the medium.
I once orchestrated this piece for fun. This is brilliant. To play Bach, to read Bach, to experience even a small part of Bach is to glimpse into the mind of God. How lucky we are.
Listen to that tuba !!! What a sound!!
The fact that it takes around 12 people just to play this piece, shows how complex and insane bach's pieces really are, and it's truly beautiful!

@@bcstechnologylimited896 Wait until he discovers Brian's Symphony who uses 800 musicians, hahaha.
Well played all, with particular praise for Willie Clark's fine tuba contribution.
Wow!
I heard this in the car today on the Classical channel. It gave me goosebumps! I played trumpet back my early years/Highschool, but this made me want to play the Baritone or a Tuba. The lows are hauntingly powerful.
This is one of the reasons why I love Bach. Just listen!

Thank you so much for your kind words! We always love the chance to perform this incredible masterwork of Bach's.
I see an irony in the organ standing near you. Like, thank you dude, but this time we will make it without you. And you did!
I think I like this version even more than the original!
Should we see this favorite piece on your channel sometime? I'd love that. And I believe a whole lot of people too.
I am here after their flawless Shostakovich Festival Orchestra... what a brilliant ensemble, no weaknesses not even the French Horns... I am in awe!!!
Excellent!!!!
The organ, king of instruments, is now likely jealous and humbled.
There are 15 thumbs down. This is why I frequently despair for our society. I would have killed for access to performances like this 50+ years ago (when I was a teen). Now people have all these great performances and "meh... don't like it". Just screams out "notice me"!!!
15 degenerate pink haired gen z kids who worship Kpop musicians and rappers like gods
Man i cant believe this performance. Ive heard some INTENSE Bach, and this took my breath away 🫨🥹🥳 on a rollercoaster ❤ you are amazing for doing this
It would be nice to see more of the musicians' faces at the end. I see a couple of smiles - did they all know what a beautiful thing they had created?
Awesome indeed. This music is very profound and emotionally moving. One of Bach's greatest compositions in my opinion. One of the amazing things about Bach is that his music can sound great on any instrument.
that's true. there is a very talented harpist on RUclips J.S. Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor BWV 565 // Amy Turk, Harp, you may love it :)

I much prefer the Brass arrangement over the organ. This is my favorite piece of music.
Very good transcription and execution, the passacaglia works very well for Brass. I especially respond to the sensitivity of attack, sustain, modulation and decay - not just playing notes, but experiencing them, each one of them. The respect for phrasing is also apparent. It's not easy...
Dan West , the music writed by the great J.S.Bach work well with all instruments
Ahh the brass, so perfect for the constant movement of baroque, like bubbles emerging en popping away. Etherial. When i meditate i meditate on baroque, no new age drone.
Needs more Diapason. lol Seriously though....excellent!
This is a stunning transcription and performance. With a tubist like this who needs a pipe organ?
My favorite Bach organ work, here very well rendered for brass band as if it had been written for this band.
Thank you for the best transcription and the great performance of the passacaglia. It was glorious...
Beautiful performance of this piece! After playing this in a brass ensemble in high school, I can't listen to it without getting chills.
Now that was a great high school music teacher you had.
This is simply AMAZING !!!! Thank You so much for this so beautiful Music
awesome!! You guys know how to play Bach!!
Nice reworking of the Respighi orchestration
The flanking pipe organ looks like it's pissed. It's probably jealous.
Браво!!!!!
Some of them have several instruments to play!
Approved!
👍🏻👋🇩🇪
incroyable, merci

Stunning performance! And the arrangement is phenomenal. A work of art in and of itself!
Excellent. I think a brass quintet is too small to do a piece like this justice. I wish the German Brass, also the size of this group, had a recording.
The pinnacle of German and Western culture!
De lo mejor que he oido
Fantastic as usual!
Simply sublime..... Thanks for share

Very nice, but now I must go to a church and play this on the organ.
Very Respighi influenced. I like it! Thanks for giving me chills again by that piece...
Wow! :-)
they're taunting that poor organ in the background i feel so bad for it
Nah they’re just competing
Increíble interpretación!!!
Passacaglia is like a pretty woman, any clothes suit her.
awesome

Thank you so much! We are huge fans of their recording as well!
That arrangement with CSO brass includes timpani, which instantly makes it awful no matter what the brass does.
Einfach ganz toll, Bach würde sich freuen-
Some lost soul gave this a thumbs-down. May I suggest they immediately make an appointment with an otologist.

I think this would be the song played at Darth Vader's wedding.

IT'S A PIECE
John Williams is notorious for playing his music in c minor.

I have to say - to see a $3000 instrument lying on the floor for the want of a $20 stand - really makes my blood boil.
