What a mad and wonderful idea to arrange it 'for band' but with the organ still included. "Only in Russia!" A fantastic arrangement, as required, for this very special piece.
The russian folks are good people! I love them. They are very creative and passionate. Don't believe all the stories passed through the press! Just look at their magnificent culture and you know..... Much respect and love from a brother in 🇩🇪
Despite the poor organist’s attack of butterfingers, this is for me the best, most moving, most powerful arrangement and performance of this I’ve ever heard. There is something mesmerising about the conductor: he’s just not kidding, basically, and you can see him channelling, pumping the sound out of the air. The band, who are superb, are putty in his hands. The absence of top strings brings the top brass right to the front of the sound, and makes it terrifying and heartbreaking. Magisterial.
I feel like she messed up due to the fact that that was the part where she is the only one playing, so someone might tense up and get nervous. Still tho, the whole performance was insanely beautiful, some of the best I've ever heard
Great ! J.S.BAch and Russian military orchestral Discipline fit together . The Russians are part of European Culture. Thanks for Posting this arrangement
To think that I was expecting something kinda ridiculous... a MILITARY band playing one of Bach's best works*? No way! Well, I had to eat my words. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I was driven to tears. This would almost make me believe in God. Absolutely wonderful.
I did read the new testament. Didn't make me believe in God, even though I concured (and still do) with Jesus' teachings. Love the ethics and... the love. Faith is out of my reach (rather, I'm out of the reach of faith). Immune to proselytizing, sorry ☺
Wonderful! The most inherently consistent orchestral transcription of this marvellous piece of music I've heard yet. Played with devotion by a great military band. This performance saved my day, tonight.
Feodor - posting this magnificent work to the internet is a gift to the world of great beauty. yes the defense band played it - but you found it. And now we can all hear it. Thank you Bob M
Magnificent! ! !Wonderful performance of remarkable transcription! Powerful! Such large number musicians yet lines/voices preserved for interplay. Excellent balance and control! Gave me chills! Organ registra tion anemic; too few stops, not incisive enough; solo opportunities missed; errors. Did not know of tragic death of Maestro Khalilov...
When Bach composed BWV 582, the instrumentation for cover performances varied from salon to salon amongst the German nobility, and from congregation to congregation in Church circles. This vid is an extrapolation to concert-band scale from an arrangement for woodwinds, strings and cembalo continuo typical of a baronial court.
that's the normal way of reading an 18th Century composition. the tempo is constant throughout - until the last note before the final chord. this is a wonderful reading of a masterpiece that I've been intimate with (as a keyboard player) for more than 40 years.
Спасибо! ruclips.net/video/pmx6HM6ulhc/видео.html
This is the question of "the development of music with instruments." Many composers tried to introduce new or latest instruments for their works. Mozart Fg. Beethoven Trb. Ravel Sax and so forth. Do you think Bach dared to exclude the electric guitar if would be there ?
This is the most convincing orchestral transcription of any of Bach's organ works I've listened to. The other ones (including Respighi's and Mitropoulos') have something artificial they don't really seem to be compatible with the nature of those pieces. This is not surprising. The original versions were written for organ which, after all, is a wind instrument so a military band is more appropriate.
Presented by a military defense band with minimalistic use of the organ? Now I’ve heard everything?! No matter! Bach can handle it! Bach can handle anything and even Stokowski would applaud this presentation! Will have to make a disclaimer however that this band is not a marching band! The cellos couldn’t handle that task!!! Lol. Thank you for this interpretation! Wonderfully played!!!
Great performance!! Powerful and moving! This dynamic works well in my honest opinion. I can feel the emotion even though it is not played entirely on Organ. Of course the band setting is going to sound different and this band does justice to this orchestration. Bravo!!!
Bach would have likely written nothing. BWV numbers were far after his death and the transcription was done by someone other that Bach. This piece was originally written for the organ alone.

Respighi's transcription is for organ and orchestra
Bach has been played on nearly every kind of instrument. I really love this version. The death of magnifient musicians is a real loss.
Despite the poor organist’s attack of butterfingers, this is for me the best, most moving, most powerful arrangement and performance of this I’ve ever heard. R.I.P. Valery Khalilov. Condolences to your family from U.K.

man, that crescendo and stop by the percussion at 13:59 is beautifull

Thankyou. And a very big thankyou to Valery Khalilov - for a great transcription, and for his great conducting.
Bach is the greatest composer who has ever lived.
Really??? Not Beethoven? Mozart? Not Heyden? ...really? Bach must be my favorite!
Agree. He made the best music of all times.
Keiner kann ihm das Wasser reichen...
And what about Shostakovich? It's strange that he is not on your list
Руслан Бурдужан shostakovich could be his house maid.
Bach wrote the Passacaglia at the age of 22 years after his visit of Buxtehude in Luebeck.
It is inspired by the Passacaglia in d minor by Buxtehude.
Age 22!? That's insane!
I think it partially inspired the chaconne from Holst's first suite in E-flat.
Exactly. Listen to Buxtehude and you will see where this came from.
31 years (1716)
Great Khalilov R.I.P. condoilences to the family from Italy
CavaliereNero1972 Very sad indeed - but we can all remember him in great performances such as this one. Bless his soul.
Risking of sounding dark I will write this: dying after listening to this flawless arrangement, I would be at peace.
Wonderful! The most inherently consistent orchestral transcription of this marvellous piece of music I've heard yet. Played with devotion by a great military band. This performance saved my day, tonight.
I've seen a few basses in a wind ensemble, but never a full bass AND cello section, with organ too???? This is such a treat.
I like this interpretation very much. Thank you for posting.

Thank you Bob M
Exceptional orchestration, performance and conduction!!!
Uh, how are those cellos going to march?
More easily than the organist, I suspect.
@@numbereightyseven That's what portative organs are for!

I am stunned at the magnificence of this music. An unbelievably beautiful and inspired performance. Bach's music at its best.
I don't like when people make "arranges" but in this case I think there was a very good taste result, Bravo! The flute soloist is a doll.
Absolutely wonderful. so emotionful and delicate expression

Actually The music of Bach it's amazing and Wonderful and I am repeat this music 🎶 every day

One of the best orchestral arrangements of this organ song .
It's 3:30am, and I wasn't expecting to listen completely through. Very nice indeed.
Amazing transcription and an excellent performance.
This is the best I've ever heard the Passacaglia played. A full orchestra contains all the sounds this piece needs.
Non avevo mai ascoltato niente di simile. E'una esecuzione nitida e perfetta.Molto affascinante il suono ottenuto.Grazie!
Just fallen in love with the flute player at 01:50 :))

WOW!!!
Great Professionist!

I just found out thanks to your comment. What a terrible loss!
May this terrific musician rests in peace. 😞
Wow!!!! This is in the Bolshoi Zal....the same Concert Hall that Glenn Gould played Bach in during his 1957 visit.
very interesting settup with the cellos and the organ. Love it
Magic I think Bach would take this as a tribute .

I am totally enthusiastic - tremendous !!!
Really beautiful! Can anyone tell me where to find the score for this band arrangement? Thank you.

Magnifica instrumentacion, Magnifica interpretacion... no me canso de escucharla. Gracias.
José Manuel Caramés A. Has oído Gert van Hoef con este tema?
A fine transcription preserving the spirit of the original. There's a disturbing wrong note at 9:50...
A transcription a bit surprising, with a part kept at the organ, but why not ? Bach is so universal ! It sounds very good !
What a beautiful music! It's gorgeous!
Una versione straordinaria, una meraviglia!!!
Magnifique!
Johann Sebastian would have loved this,

Nice composition. The консерватория имени П. И. Чайковского brings memories where I visited it many times in the nineties.
Outstanding!!

such emotion, utterly beautiful
Amazing!!!

Excellent and masterful work. Congratulations

What a gorgeous concert hall!

Khalilov died in aircrash today. R.I.P.
I feel so sorry for the russian people and have not recovered mentally from that terrible tragedy.
Majestic, exquisite.
Really wonderful. Bravo!
Sobrecogedor, apabullante.

Great Russia!! I Love them with their genial People!!
Bravissimo - really gorgeous performance - Spasibo Bolshoi! I cried tears of joy and emotion!
I wish I was there to witness this performance. I think one of the best performance heard.
Fantastic!!!
Magnificent and majestic
This orchestra certainly has beautiful tone. I wonder how that relates to the military aspect.
Very epical, very good orchrestra
very nice performance...odd to have a complete cello and bass section but no violas or violins...
That organist kept fucking up a brilliant performance.
She messed up a couple times, but then again, organ isn't exactly easy to play, especially under pressure (get it)
Bach would have likely written nothing. BWV numbers were far after his death and the transcription was done by someone other that Bach. This piece was originally written for the organ alone.
@ 9:51 - wrong note at the organ, playing the fugue's theme in tenor/alto voice.
Nobody cares.
blackraven0513 you do, that's why you replied.
