There are some very romantic works by Bach. Every man who loves women is a romantic. There are passages in Bach that can sound like Ravel, one in one of his Triple Concerti and the second movement of the Concerto for Keyboard in F.
Ah, Polina *_Amadea_* Osetinskaya! The mistress of the pianoforte, beloved by God. She is the pianist _sans pareille_ - proof that God exists! I have never heard Bach played so exquisitely by anyone as she does.

I fully agree that nobody plays Bach better than Ms. Osetinskaya but I disagree that she is beloved by God. At least he had a blind eye when Polina was a child. Will make you cry if you know the story of her childhood.

It read: ‘I don’t really like the playing of Bach, even of well known pianists’. This is what I struggled to understand. The translation into English seemed to imply that you do not like ANY playing of Bach. Perhaps something was lost in translation. Now this second comment I can whole heartedly agree with. I listen to a lot of Bach. Mainly because I play mostly Bach keyboard music. There are a lot of interpretations that fall well short of the standards that anyone may reasonably expect from the performing of such sublime music. For me, Bach and his music are Supreme. Every player ought to be performing his music to an exceptionally high standard. If it is not, then, for me, it has no place in the public domain. I am all for musicians of all types experimenting and trying new techniques in performance. But spare us the trials and the many errors and just deliver us the ultimate performance. Certainly one of the better versions of this piece I have heard. She has mastered her technique and is putting it on for the world to see and listen to. For that, I am thankful. Meilleure même que celle qu'elle nous donna lors de son concert, pourtant si "habité", d'Omsk en octobre 21 (mais peut-être trop habité pour une passacaille). Quelle jubilation primesautière, quelle gourmandise dans la 5ième variation (mesures 41-49), quelle clarté, quelle fluidité des voix dans la fugue ! Quel talent pour faire magnifiquement sonner un piano qui, pourtant, n'est ni un Steinway, ni un Boesendorfer, non plus un Bechstein, mais un Kawai ! Comme cette transcription (Gollub?), dans cette interprétation-ci, est limpide et légère comparée aux interprétations à l'orgue de la partition originale pour orgue, dont certaines pèsent sur l'estomac comme de gros cakes trop roboratifs !

Wow!!! Seeing the casual, seemingly small scale setting of this performance I was expecting a medium-level performance but ended up seeing my new personal favorite piano-interpretation of BWV 582!!! Wonderful articulation, phrasing, speed and just overall playing!!! That's how I always imagined the perfect piano-version of Pssacaglia & Fugue in C-Moll to sound in my imagination!

Organ piece isn't it. Osetinskaya is always magnificent, althought quite surprisingly there are a few hiccups on the Passaglia. I was wondering if she is actually mostly sightreading it. ❤

It's ok. But the P&F is actually written quite simply. This is on purpose by Bach, because he assumed it would be played on the organ, where a single key can sound 10 or more notes of varied pitches and voicing. On the organ, there can easily be 40 or 50 notes sounding at one time. So a simple transcription P&F to piano is like transcribing a work by Liszt to the banjo. It would take the transcribing genius of a Reger or Godowsky to do it, by adding real inner note structure, not just octave fill.

It's ok. But the P&F is actually written quite simply. This is on purpose by Bach, because he assumed it would be played on the organ, where a single key can sound 10 or more notes of varied pitches and voicing. On the organ, there can easily be 40 or 50 notes sounding at one time. So a simple transcription P&F to piano is like transcribing a work by Liszt to the banjo. It would take the transcribing genius of a Reger or Godowsky to do it, by adding real inner note structure, not just octave fill.
