    The funny thing is when you look at everything Kratos has been through in this part of his series it makes sense that when he opened Pandora’s box it was Hope that he had gained.
    Because throughout everything that he does in these games it’s all under the driving force of hope.
    He hopes that by going through whatever quest he’s going through at the time that it will help him in gaining some measure of satisfaction and peace.
    That’s why all the dark energies in Pandora’s box don’t go to him.
    Because to him all the dark things he did was for the hope that his torment would end.
    And ironically the gods assumed because of all of his violent actions that it would be the dark energies he would take in.

      Up until then, he was a pretty solid anti hero. Before the games he was just another generic Spartan general, not exactly a saint, but not particularly evil either. After making a deal with Ares (which imo was mostly a desperation ploy for survival) he was “evil” but by proxy of being Ares’s pawn. He was tricked into killing his family, who he clearly loved and it was indicated he was a good husband and father, even though his wife criticized his warmongering.
      After renouncing his oath to Ares and breaking free of it in Ascension (he was notably fairly good in that game) he becomes a pretty straightforward embittered anti hero who still does good things but without the squeaky cleanness of an ideal hero. Stops Ares from taking over Olympus, and stopped Persephone from destroying it in chains of Olympus, serves gods for 10 years, defends Greece etc
      In 2 and 3 he slips into villainy, but you can say 2 was just specific revenge againist someone who wronged him. i would have looked at each god, what their alignment is and given kratos a push in the opposite direction, provided there isn't much deeper context.
      zeus, hera, poseidon and hades are 100% lawful evil, so killing each one should move kratos towards chaotic good.
      athena is (until that point) the closest thing to lawful good in the series, but kratos doesn't kill her on purpose so it doesn't count.
      ares and hermes are neutral evil so slaying them pushes kratos towards neutral good.
      he kills helios after the later tries to trick kratos (at this point kratos does not know that he needs helios head to proceed iirc), punishing trickery is lawful neutral in my book.
      hephaestus he kills only after hephaestus betrays him, in my opinion, punishing betrayl with death is lawful neutral.
      persephone he kills literally for the greater good when allowing her plan to succeed would have accomplished his own goal, so lawful good.
      hercules is lawful neutral (he only engages in battle with kratos after being ordered to do so by hera), so one push to chaotic neutral.

    I'd like to see you do the OG AD&D alignments in these videos.
    Most of your Chaotic Evil things are actually Neutral Evil, they have a motive and it's selfish. Chaotic Evil has been distorted over the decades as being like that, but it's not. The most pop-culture guy I can think of to embody Chaotic Evil is The Joker from DC Comics. He is a master planner and a genius, but because he's so chaotic he is also his own worse enemy, including randomly killing his own people to make a point and-or think it's funny. Post OG alignments are really going down to messing up how complex they are, selling the D&D boxed sets as having only 3, and setting standards for how that makes sense when other games made it far more complicated.
    Kratos is Chaotic Good (True Neutral leaning) when not Neutral Good (Chaotic Good leaning). The God of War games never gave Kratos options that allowed any Chaotic Evil alignment choices in the OG form of AD&D.
    From what I glean in modern videos, absolutely every alignment is debatable down to the very core and relative to idiotic pop-culture interpretation. Also, most modern AD&D gamers don't have any idea what the OG alignments meant, and the new standards are not really alignments, they are moral leanings on top of being almost nonsense if the alignment of the character is a player character.

    • @Stabsdagoblin
      @Stabsdagoblin 2 года назад +2

      The OG alignments also made no sense whatsoever. Alignment always boils down to a convoluted mess because morality does the same thing. Morality is not objective so trying to create a system that makes sense for a TTRPG would require solving the field of ethics. When you said " absolutely every alignment is debatable" that is because literally everything in the field of ethics gets debated. OG D&D had races that were somehow entirely evil despite being sentient. The whole alignment system is a mess and it is just fun to see how different people try to tackle it. Don't get too caught up on it fitting some "Original" meaning of the terms as that is impossible.

    • @joshwist556
      @joshwist556 2 года назад +1

      Alignment is subjective anyways. It’s literally down to personal beliefs of the individual doing the chart.
      I interpret True Neutral as being this, A person that does what they do because it benefits their goals and their’s only.
      Kratos at the end has the literal embodiment of Hope in himself. His goal was to rid his curse and see his family again and be in peace. A truly neutral Kratos would not give up Literal Hope since it will hopefully get him to his goal.
      But this is all subjective anyways.

    • @That80sGuy1972
      @That80sGuy1972 2 года назад +1

      @@joshwist556 Fair enough. The OG alignment guidelines were more solid, but way too many people only had the ability, no matter how hard they tried, to have a line between Lawful Good and Chaotic Evil without understanding it being more of a 2D vector than the 1D line. Those people interpreted Lawful Evil as pretty much misunderstood good but mean guys or evil guys with OCD with Chaotic Good as evil and-or insane people who are on the side of good. That infected post 2nd Ed later editions and made it far more up for interpretation than even 1st Ed pre-clarification era.

    I think that Kratos is actually Chaotic Neutral for one simple reason: he feels justified in everything that he does. In his mind, the gods betrayed him, not the other way round, and he deserves revenge. He didn't mean to destroy the world, he only meant to kill those who have wronged him. Chaotic Evil would be going out of his way to kill random people just for the sake of it, but he doesn't. While you can argue that revenge is an evil desire, I believe that it is only evil if you intentionally harm others along the way. While Kratos does harm others, it isn't intentional, and when it is, the person tends to actually want it. (See Pandora and Orkus.) So, in my opinion, Kratos is Chaotic Neutral. He actually might be Lawful Neutral if you think about it, but I don't think that he is evil.

He caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands if not millions from utterly devastating the natural world and never once showed any remorse for the babies who drowned when he savagely beat Poseidon to death.

      @@jaysea185 I wouldn't call Kratos evil, but he's definitely a killer. It was his ambition and need to win that made him sell his soul to Ares. Everything that Kratos did under Ares' command can't be washed away with a few good deeds or sparing a few people. Kratos at that point was by all means, a monster. One who you could recognize by the ashes of his family, who he murdered, marking his skin.
      Although God of war 2 and above Kratos generally stops starting fights with non-gods, it's his path to vengeance that causes these fights to begin with. Kratos generally doesn't want to kill people if he can help it, but there is a common trend of his opponents becoming dead after their battle even if they pleaded for mercy or were otherwise incapable of fighting back. Like with Kronos, Kronos started the fight because of Kratos' past actions against him as well as his belief that Kratos killed Gaia, yet when he begged for his life and was incapable of fighting back, Kratos still killed him anyways.

      Personally, I think Tanya is Lawful Evil. She's a psychopath who has no qualms about letting a person's life be ruined or killed if she finds them unworthy. But she takes care of people she finds valuable to her or her company/country making sure they're given what they need to succeed. And although she's still "a little" harsh on these people, she does so to make sure they live up to their potential.
      She also works within the law and follows her higher-ups orders above all else, though she does try her best to find/create loopholes. But when a bad situation or consequence appears, she takes full responsibility for it unless that situation/consequence is a direct reaction from some other person not related to her or her people.
      I believe Tanya is Lawful because of her willingness to follow the law and her superiors who's decisions are usually what drive her to do most of her actions. But I also believe she's evil because of her lack of empathy and downright cruelty to those she does not perceive as competent or her people. And thus, I personally believe Tanya is lawful Evil.

    Before watching: Kratos is neutral. His hate and murderboner is universal and evenhanded.
    Afterwards: Ah. Well, then

    Kratos, along with John Wick, are one of the few characters I can think off where their somehow both good, neutral, and evil

    Lets not forget Kratos is LITERALLY the monster the greek gods made themselves. Ares did most of the work but he worked for decades to redeem himself and all he got was a pat on the back basically.

      I'd say it was more the middle finger than a pat on the back.

      @@SuperGamefreak18 I'm sure that's how it was viewed by the gods, but from where I'm standing, and probably from where Kratos stood, it was a middle finger/slap in the face/etc.

    So, now that Ragnarok is out, I REALLY want to see where you think Kratos is now, especially considering he's presumably starting at Chaotic Evil.

    imagine Kratos explaining to Mimir or Atreus that he killed that reaccuring Sailor and that he had lost count of how many times he actually killed him.

    I hope when you do Norse Kratos, you continue the alignment wheel where it left off here as that is the same character and should be treated as such

    And people say there was nothig but rage in the GoD games before 2018, but that is a path traveled only cause the gods did so to him, basically treating him as their plaything.

    D&D alignment for Mikazuki Augest and/or Orga Itski from Iron Blooded Orphans.
    Ppl might think Mikazuki is chaotic Neutral to neutral evil, but i think theres more to it than that

    Funny enough for me it wasn't until Norse Kratos got brought in that I started to care for the God of War series. I'm honestly curious on how you'd start that off. Mostly cause of the down time between the games he has with his new wife. Also I'm expecting a lot of dings in that one due to the advice he gives Boy, I mean Atreus. That and personally for me the scene when he shares Greek ale with him is a Nat 20 for bonding and hilarity.

    He may be chaotic Evil, but I also can't blame him for being Chaotic Evil. Very interesting character.

    I'd love to see Norse Kratos, even though I know this series will go away before that happens, probably. But I'm unsure why it wasn't included aside from Ragnarok being not out yet, as it's canon that Norse Kratos is still Greek Kratos as Norse Kratos is very deeply and heavily implied/hinted to be the original. From his troubled past, to straight up having Athena show up when he digs up his old weapons and him talking about how he's no longer her's to command.

    You HAVE to make an Alignment video about Norse Kratos. He's got another game coming, why not. Plus, it feels unfinished.
