"The world is fully aware of demons." Only since 5. Before then, it was sort of a "If you know, you know." kind of situation. Which is kinda weird since a gigantic tower that went higher than the clouds showed up in the middle of a city and not a single person remembers it.
From what I remember, in the novels Dante was forced to leave a town because of a demon attack which costed him his partners life and one of his daughters, to the point he still sends them money because of his guilt.
The progression of Dante from a young adult just trying to find his place in the world to a mature man who's made peace with his life and willing to leave a place for others, paralleled with the progression from cocky hotshot to everyone's favorite fun uncle. It's such a shame that he missed Patty's birthday party; otherwise, his story would have been perfect.
The "brooding, edgy half-demon" trope is kinda tiring, and when I saw Dante in DMC 3, it is SUPER refreshing. Plus I would just be like Dante if I founded out that I too am rom demonic descent. Just flexing my demonhood like it is a WWE champion belt.
Same here as to me instead of just going full edgelord I would have the following thought about it. "Now just how much wacky bullshit can I do with my powers." Because I would be trying to pull some Toon-Force levels of nonsense with them.
Well Dante is not just any demon descendent. He's a well written, deeply characterized man expressed through his bloodline, like a gothic hero or villian. He's the son of a dark *knight* who "woke up to justice". He's defined by a thrill of battle specifically in a knightly, almost honorable fashion. "You can't fight with that wound!" "You can stay here and die, or you can walk your ugly ass back through that gate! It's your call pal." It's good to define a character on multiple levels.
So fun fact with the Devil May Cry series, Nero and Vergil have a second tie beyond the familial one - their voice actors are both Power Rangers. Johnny Yong Bosch (Second Black Ranger Adam Park) voices Nero - not a massive surprise as JYB got big in the anime dubbing industry after Power Rangers, but Vergil has consistantly been voiced by Dan Southworth (Time Force's Quantum Ranger, Eric Myers). What's funny is that Southworth has actually noticed people notice this, and slipped a few Vergil references in when he returned to voice the character in Power Rangers Legacy War.
Reuben's also actually done cameo appearances in Power Rangers (Minor background characters) as well as his work as a Sentai. In-fact, it was BECAUSE Johnny and Daniel were Power Rangers that Reuben requested them. Given DMC 3 onwards utilized some degree of Motion Capture stuntwork. And in Reubens mind, Power Rangers actors were perfect for capturing some of the Larger then life motions of the DMC cast. Which, well, worked to put it bluntly.
@@joshrobins130 oh absolutely. It just amazes me how deeply it ties in and how well Dan Southworth does as Vergil. JYB is a big anime dub name and often gets compared well to his counterparts, but Southworth is less well known.
Dante is so endearing, I’ve heard him described as the Will Smith of video games. Doesn’t drink doesn’t smoke doesn’t curse but is still cool. Helps that he’s a pretty big dork too
@@xenowarrior282 well, the main cannon games support this concept. Even though other materials don't support this concept the main cannons games do. And thats what I loved about this series even though I didn't play it all that much, my brother played it mostly and I kinda watched.
@@xenowarrior282 I mean hey at least here him drinking is acceptable knowing the shit he went through like damm you gotta wonder how he is able to be so goofy even though he is definitely depressed like that’s not even a theory it’s fact.
I'm actually very interested in a alignment video for Nero. He's much more brash and angry than either Vergil or Dante, but has a bit of both of their ideologies. Most notably sharing his father's value of strength. Wanting to, more than anything, protect the people closest to him and defeat evil. This results in a scathing sense of inadequacy, feeling if he fails then he's worthless. Which then explains why Nero takes Dante's "dead weight" line so damn personally. Despite this, Nero has actually had a pretty good life, despite being a part-demon orphan. Growing up with and settling down with his childhood sweetheart, Kyrie, fostering some orphans, and running the mobile branch of Devil May Cry with Nico.
My head canon for why he's like that in 2 is that the fact that he lost his brother 3 times, two of which he thought he killed him, only caught up with him then. Trust me, there can be a pretty big delay in those kinds of emotions, especially if you're as busy as he was.
It should be also noted that Dante's crusade against demons was started with sole purpose of finding and killing the bastard who killed his Mother - once he kills Mundus and attains his revenge... He runs into "Now what?" situation. With no driving motivation he starts doing his job like going through motions (DMC Anime... Especially credits scene shows how he slowly slips into depression) while realisation he has no more family left seeps in and weighs him down until he hits the bottom during DMC2... And then Nero enters his life. And it brings back purpose into Dante's life with him becoming that funny uncle which Nero never knew he needed in his life.
I noticed as you were going through the first game anytime they were going up the tower it was good aligned but when they went down the tower it was evil aligned. I think that may be intentional and kind of awesome.
Omg yes, you actually did this one! I love Dante and Devil May Cry so much! I’ve been wanting this one for awhile. Imo Dante is a perfect example of a chaotic good character definitely
I know that its not exactly stated canon but I honestly think that Dante's interactions with the Demifiend help him chill out as well. It may not be DMC canon, but it sure seems to be SMT Canon. Dante Smacks around Argosax, falls into hell and continues working there, following a job that leads him to meet and possibly join the Demifiend on his quest. With the Demifiend helping send Dante back home leading to reunions and DMC4
It's important to mention with the Vergil Alignment, that it's effectively confirmed by Visions of V, that the overwhelming majority, if not all of, Vergil's consciousness went into V when he split himself into two people. I don't know if that is gonna have any effect on whether or not you include Urizen in Vergil's alignment, but it's worth mentioning.
What I love about Dante is that he IS a brooding edgy half demon. That's what gives him a bit of depth. Dante deals with some real depression and anxiety regarding his past and family. The only time he seems happy is when he's on a job, or with his family. Blood or not
I've always liked Dante. Badass, charming, and always puts a smile on my face. However, while I love Dante as a character, I think Virgil is slightly more interesting. Looking forward to the Virgil video.
Thank you so much for this video and the 'probably?' upcoming trilogy of DMC with Vergil and maybe Nero? (I hope there is a Nero video). Anyway. I always wondered if Dante was Neutral Good or Chaotic Good, but with the points you made and showing the alignment, he does sit almost neatly in between the alignments. Definitely my favorite hack n slash video game character of all time.
Happy to see one of my favorite video game characters covered. The editing is great and I love seeing Dante's adventure over the course of his life. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to seeing the channel cover Dante from DMC: Devil May Cry. It could be pretty interesting.
I definitely want to see you cover Nero, but perhaps when you are done with Devil May Cry, you try out Bayonetta. Between the two, I prefer Dante, but Bayonetta is really fun, too.
I feel like if Dante and Virgil has a game based on their adventures in the Underworld it would be a good opportunity to have a coop game. I imagine they’ll keep to Nero for a bit because of the torch passing but still, food for thought.
Big mistak at the start. In world of DMC is not public knowledge that demons exist. See the reaction of the Swat members of DMC 5, the anime makes it super clear, you even have to tell Dante a password to get him as a devil hunter, the knowledge of Sparta is in the Lybary of Fobitten Book (game guide hidden by DMC1) and a lot of other little things prove it. But how demons are not a public knowledge I don't know.
As other have mentioned, you could cover Bayonetta and maybe another game with a urban fantasy set for yet another trilogy. Or maybe another game with otherworldly characters. I would love to see the alignments of War and Death (and maybe the other siblings) even if I already know what they'll be.
If you like Action games and you're covering DMC anyway, two good characters to try are the other two protagonists of the Character Action Trinity, Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, and Bayonetta from . Bayonetta I expect will be relatively simple in terms of her moral alignment but Ryu's might be interesting if for no other reason than because Ninja Gaiden 3 exists.
I actually did enjoy both games but for different reasons. Definitely the gameplay of both was great. Story-wise, I actually had a talk with a friend who never play the original series and he enjoyed the Reboot more because he had no preconceptions. The characters are vastly different in each universe and he enjoyed the more realistic Reboot compared to the over-the-top action of the originals. I own both and if I had to choose, I enjoy DMC5 the best, but the Reboot is still fun. Great video! I love the alignment videos! I just found them and I'm definitely gonna watch more!
I would love to see a D&D of harmony and horror character starting with martin greywhinder who is not only the worst dad is all of fiction but also the most evil and ruthless serial killers of all fiction
That outro bit about the stylish hack and slash character made me think of the idea of there being an alignment video on Kratos, which sounds...complicated. But it'd be cool!
dante is the equivalent of a god in D&D and probably more powerful considering how casually he can beat characters who can just as causally create universes
I object to the chaotic evil, for leaving lady and the fight against her. Being an asshole and not going out of your way to help someone does not make you evil it’s just called being an asshole. It’s chaotic neutral at best. He isn’t doing it for malicious reasons he just doesn’t care. Having the option to do a good deed and choosing not to is not evil. It isn’t his responsibility to save everyone.
ehhh I'd argue leaving Lady there wasn't as much a chaotic evil move, he *knew* she was a competent fighter and demon hunter just from what little he has seen and believed that she could handle herself there, and whatever is going on in the tower is a far more dangerous and pressing threat. So he decided to waste as little time as possible and go after the danger.
6:38 error here. Dante never got Beowulf Vergil got Beowulf because Beowulf ran away after Dante blinded Beowulf then Vergil killed Beowulf and got his devil arm.
What’s funny is that the switch port is probably the best due to the changes they put in place with the combat system being more akin to DMC5 and how you can change styles and weapons on the fly
15:25 The thing that makes this even funnier is the fact that the Order of the Sword worships Sparda as their god, so this is the DMC equivalent of Jesus Christ descending from the heavens to bust a cap on the Pope.
I know you already have the next three alignment videos planed but I would love to see one on some of the characters from assassins creed like: etzio, edward or byak
Dante is right next to Solid Snake as my favorite video game characters of all time. The amount of times I can remember where I wanted my own twin pistols and demon slaying adventures when I was growing up are testament to how much his style just rubs off of on someone--me especially. I never want the series to end, greedy as it is, and I pray to any god listening that there's a sixth game.

Dante is, I think, the platonic ideal of a chaotic good character, much in the way someone like Geralt is the ultimate true neutral. Dante never plays by anyone else's rules, ever, and just kinda does his own thing as a wacky woohoo pizza man, but ultimately he is still human, and humans have something demons don't, something he proves throughout the series.
3rd one so far is the best in the series, its peak dante where hes a young cocky badass jsut having fun through the game while everything is going to hell.
Chaotic Good, hands down. While he may act pompous, lazy when it comes to working, and gluttonous when it comes to pizza and strawberry sundaes, he's willing to sacrifice life and limb (sometimes literally) to defend humanity and those closest to him from the demons. Vergil, while his outlook on humanity may not be as positive as Dante's, is actually cut from the same cloth as his twin brother. If the manga and the special edition prologue of Devil May Cry 4, not even Vergil will turn a blind eye to a human being menaced by demons (DMC - Chaotic Evil, DMC 2 - N/A, DMC 3 - Chaotic Evil turned Chaotic Neutral, DMC 4 - Chaotic Neutral, DMC 5 - Chaotic Neutral (halfway point from the True Evil Urizen and the Chaotic Good V)).
@@alastordemon5137 I say chaotic because his motives for gaining power weren't always noble. In 3, he was willing to sacrifice all of humanity to Temen ni Gru just to gain the power of Sparda.
@@deathbykonami5487 the law and chaos (ethics/laws) axis have less to do with "nobility." That's more in regard to the moral axis. Don't you think that if you're judging how noble vergil's actions were (not) that you should consider how that might affect the moral half instead of the ethics half?
@@alastordemon5137 Lawful means his lust for power would've been for the greater good of himself and his brother when he just wanted power so that he wouldn't feel weak again. I say chaotic because he purely motivated by his own self-interests
@@deathbykonami5487 I don't think the alignment system is very clear cut on what things like "lawful" or "evil" actually mean but I think you're just making things up. And I think my previous comment fell on deaf ears (or eyes technically) because like I just said, chaotic doesn't necessarily mean selfish or ill willed. That's evil. Just because you're chaotic doesn't mean you're doing bad things.
Honestly, I kinda liked the remake DMC, as well. However, I also think that's partly because I didn't have anything else to go off of. It was my first DMC game. I prefer the OG Dante over the remake version, but I DID enjoy the remake's gameplay enough to look at it fondly.
It would be awesome to see you do one of these for Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade 1 has probably the best story I’ve seen in a game and has tons of character moments (plus there’s enough people preordering Xenoblade 3 that we broke the website so there’s definitely an audience for it)
I would love to have powers like Dante or Vergil. Dante is a very badass character. Despite his heritage Dante is laid back and care-free even while kicking demon ass.
Firstly, as a D&D player and someone who's into DMC (albeit since not too long ago), thank you for this Secondly, this is the first video of yours I watch and I couldn't help but notice you've made several slip-ups when reading out the text. Is this a common occurrence?
sometimes. I produce a lot of content across all my channels. I have my editor and co-manager do most of the proofing. most of the time the slip ups are a comment trap strategy. helps with engagement and rarely hurts watch time weirdly enough the more imperfections a video has, the better they tend to do /shrug
Dante stands right on the line of CN to CG. He lives for his own goal of killing demons in vengance with a side of having fun with it, but whenever he is faced with a moral dillemma it doesnt take long for him to pick the good option
I wish you hadn't left Nocturne out of this. More people need to acknowledge that crossover so Demi-Fiend can make guest appearance in DMC. Between his own power and his semi-canonical (Pixie & Black Frost) familiars he could work as a stand-in for V's gameplay style now that Vergil is restored. (and for those wondering, Pixie often gets thunder spells so she could replace Griffin and Black Frost is made of black snow so he could probably shapeshift like Shadow, can't think of anyone to stand-in for Nightmare but instead I think Demi-Fiend can handle the supers himself)
I'd argue that the instances of him leaving Lady to fend for herself and then subsequently mocking her when they find "dead" Arkham are Chaotic Neutral. Lady has been nothing but confrontational and tried killing Dante WITHOUT knowing he's half demon + he could probably tell she could handle herself.

Virgil will get here eventually, I'm not worried.

Bury the Light slaps so hard. I lost my mind when it started playing during that big fight. I could listen to it all day.
He belongs in the special edition lol

Hmm would Dante be considered a fighter multiclassing into Artificer?
broken sword of Rebellion
acting like
broken arrow of Requiem
I can see why my friend Elsa was hoping he would get into Smash Bros, he's infectiously goofy yet a badass
ehhh
I'd argue leaving Lady there wasn't as much a chaotic evil move, he *knew* she was a competent fighter and demon hunter just from what little he has seen and believed that she could handle herself there, and whatever is going on in the tower is a far more dangerous and pressing threat. So he decided to waste as little time as possible and go after the danger.
6:38 error here. Dante never got Beowulf Vergil got Beowulf because Beowulf ran away after Dante blinded Beowulf then Vergil killed Beowulf and got his devil arm.
I’m glad we skimmed over 2
12:22 Speech: "Dante calms Vergil down...-"
Subtitles: "Dante clams Nero down...-"
"Chaotic Neutral" for shooting a cult leader? Nah, that's Lawful Good.
HOLY FK!!! My brother and I LOVED the Devil May Cry anime when if was on Netflix years ago, but I never thought it was ACTUALLY CANON!
For real: Chaotic Good
My guts: Chaotic Chaotic
I'm going to predict either chaotic good or chaotic neutral
MY FAVORITE BOY
Fill our dark souls with light!!!
Dante is definitely My favorite male video game character of all time
A bugs bunny in a world of taddeus and Yosemite sams
Great video.
What’s funny is that the switch port is probably the best due to the changes they put in place with the combat system being more akin to DMC5 and how you can change styles and weapons on the fly
D&D Alignments: Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series.
15:25
The thing that makes this even funnier is the fact that the Order of the Sword worships Sparda as their god, so this is the DMC equivalent of Jesus Christ descending from the heavens to bust a cap on the Pope.
Ok i am at 0:26 and i am calling it now Dante is Chaotic Good and Virgil is Lawful Evil
I know you already have the next three alignment videos planed but I would love to see one on some of the characters from assassins creed like: etzio, edward or byak
Damn love Dante. And Virgil, can’t wait to see this flawed villain
Vergil is a very complex character, so I’ve got a good feeling that one is gonna be a fun one!
Haven't seen this yet but my guess is going to be Neutral Good.
Edit: 16:22 funny that you called Nero that lol
glad im not the only one who actually really likes the reboot.
dante and vergil are gaming legends
My belief of Vergil's alignment is Chaotic Evil.
Lady topside sounded like an actual name lol
Dante is right next to Solid Snake as my favorite video game characters of all time.
The amount of times I can remember where I wanted my own twin pistols and demon slaying adventures when I was growing up are testament to how much his style just rubs off of on someone--me especially.
I never want the series to end, greedy as it is, and I pray to any god listening that there's a sixth game.
I was hoping for Grunkle Stan
Copypasta from my community post from a while ago

chaotic good, calling it right now
I just wanna say for being demons made from vergils trauma the familiars were pretty cool.
Virgil, you will not evade child support
OH MY GOD IT DANTE FROM DEVIL MAY CRY NOW FEATURING DANTE FROM DEVIL MAY CRY
I've always seen vergil as more lawful than chaotic
Chaotic Good, easily.
He pretends to not care, but he helps people out when push comes to shove.
You might want to cover Dante's spiritual sister, Bayonetta once 3 comes out and after doing Vergil and Nero.
Honestly, I kinda liked the remake DMC, as well. However, I also think that's partly because I didn't have anything else to go off of. It was my first DMC game. I prefer the OG Dante over the remake version, but I DID enjoy the remake's gameplay enough to look at it fondly.
I'd love another DMC game focused on Dante AND Virgil kicking demon ass together, or at the minimum another anime with the two.
its chaotic chaos
It would be awesome to see you do one of these for Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade 1 has probably the best story I’ve seen in a game and has tons of character moments (plus there’s enough people preordering Xenoblade 3 that we broke the website so there’s definitely an audience for it)
I would love to have powers like Dante or Vergil. Dante is a very badass character. Despite his heritage Dante is laid back and care-free even while kicking demon ass.
Firstly, as a D&D player and someone who's into DMC (albeit since not too long ago), thank you for this
Secondly, this is the first video of yours I watch and I couldn't help but notice you've made several slip-ups when reading out the text.

I would love for you to cover Raiden from Metal Gear, and Bayonetta when the third game comes out
Dante stands right on the line of CN to CG.
If we're talking sassy hack and slash characters the obvious other person to mention is Bayonetta.
I feel like you should try tackling the darksiders games.
I'd argue that the instances of him leaving Lady to fend for herself and then subsequently mocking her when they find "dead" Arkham are Chaotic Neutral. Lady has been nothing but confrontational and tried killing Dante WITHOUT knowing he's half demon + he could probably tell she could handle herself.
we all know that the true ailgement is Chaotic funny man
