  • Seven years after the Moon's umbra last touched the U.S. in 2017, a Total Solar Eclipse will again be visible in North America on April 8, 2024, including Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The Moon's shadow touches the Pacific Ocean and races diagonally northeastward, entering Mexico first before contacting the U.S. in parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ontario (Canada), New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Quebec (Canada), Maine, New Brunswick (Canada), Prince Edward Island (Canada), Nova Scotia (Canada), New Foundland (Canada), and Labrador (Canada). Some well-known cities or places of interest within the path of totality include Mazatlan (Mexico), Torreon (Mexico), San Antonio, Austin, Killeen, Waco, Dallas-Fort Worth, Little Rock, Carbondale, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Erie, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester, and Montreal. After departing Canada, the umbra heads into the Atlantic Ocean to end its long journey. The Moon's umbra will not touch the U.S. again until August 23, 2044, so make sure you plan to observe the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse! Otherwise, it will be a long twenty-year wait!
