I got a 2002 IS300 in my garage. I bought it back then because I heard it had the same engine as a NA Supra and I liked the look of the car. I called it a baby GS300 which my friend had. But I was never a tuner but even now I still love these types of videos.
Me too I thought it had the same engine as a turbo supra with no turbos but now learned it has oil squirters and stronger pistons

You gotta be careful with this one in comparison to the supra. The vvti ge 2j’s are weak, but the heads flow way better

Ethan Higgins yeah he said 400-450 and I just laughed. It’d be lucky to see 380 reliably. 400+ is the danger zone from all that I’ve seen/heard
Matt L Anything above 350 is the danger zone, but I’ve seen people bend rods at less than 300, so basically it all depends on tuning and how the motor holds up. Gonna be interesting to see what goes first, the rods or the turbo.
Yeah I have heard of guys having ring land failures NA. The pistons, rods, and trans on the IS are all sketchy above 300. Somethings gonna blow it’s just a matter of what.

Evan be careful with these headers and the turbo being so close to the brake lines you definitely should consider a blanket and thermal tape on the headers to avoid brake fluid boiling + you will gain some spool time

Having replaced manifolds on these cars in the past, I always drop them out the bottom. Much less cussing involved 😂😂 Also, those manifolds still cost $4800 new at the Lexus store I work at. 🤢

Wondering if the THICK exhaust manifold would work in this engine bay. Was there still room below. CX Racing offers another version for about $100 more and definitely looks like a monster.
