I’ve been catching ‘em on the Fat1 for damn near a decade!! Just got one today on the Green Shad color. Think I only have 3 different ones left, gotta stock up again soon!!
Great video! Unfortunate that Rapala discontinued the DT fat 01 series. I have come to love these lures and crush the fish on them in the upper Midwest.
The best wake bait was a South Bend Babeoreno, but only the wooden ones, in red&white. When you retrieved in the plug darted to every two wobbles. That darting action drove the bass nuts.
When I throw a wake bait up close to shore, in addition to letting it sit for a few seconds, I'll twitch it once, let it sit, twitch it a couple more times, let it sit, and then start working it back to me... you'd be amazed how many strikes you'll get on those twitches
First plug style bait I ever caught Bass on was a South Bend BassOReno which is a wake bait that came out close to 100 years ago so nothing new about Bass loving Wake Baits!
Worked for me 1 tournament the fish were blowing up on a top water without connecting put on a wake bait and shoved my rod tip down in the water and proceeded to load the boat
what do you think about rapala cd 9? A sinking crankbait. Can be very effective. My favorite coulor is perch or black and gold. Old style lures that no one fish anymore.
haven"t thrown one in a long time but they are fun in shallow creeks and rivers where i live. chain pickerel are scrappy critters on crappie gear. great info n great video
can you do a video on the whopper plopper,im normally a crappie bluegill fisherman, ive been watching video's of your on different lures.i want to get more into bass fishing, thank you for any info.
Probably meant moderate action. Judging by the size of the baits, the rod is most likely a medium action. Basically your run-of-the-mill crankin’ stick.
Great info ! Thank you !
Thanks!

GREAT VIDEO IKE,cuestión: how DIY a square bill to wake bait,it's posible? GREATINGS SINCE MÉXICO
I always use mono on my square bills and wakes. So important to have that stretch when cranking shallow treble hooks

I have a couple of each of those Rapalas. I need to fish them more.
Got 3 Wake Baits over winter & Thank you for Helping me to Know When, Where & How!
DT Fat crankbaits unavailable everywhere. Are they still in production?
Mike ya say pause when you first cast but when you start fishing ya don't use ah pause? Does that have to do w/ the dept of water your fishing?
I first learned of wake baits b/c of Bill dance, back then, Excalibur made one. Tied it on, was hooked ever since (no pun intended)
At least that lure is living up to it'$ name, "wake bait" ain't sleeping on no species!
😄🤣

Grip it and rip it
I WATCHED HIM EAT IT!! lol. Ive said that a time or two.
So has she!
When you talked about the medium action on the delay rod, did you mean medium action or medium power?
Probably meant moderate action. Judging by the size of the baits, the rod is most likely a medium action. Basically your run-of-the-mill crankin’ stick.
If you would come out with a Delay Series spinning rod, I would buy that!
Hey Mike when do we get a red bladed VMC treble?
Wow this guy talks a lot lol I learned a lot tho
Thank you for being so thorough in your videos. Is this a good bait in the wind?
Thank you Ike for the great advice on wake baits! Will definitely be trying those up here in LaCrosse in the mighty Mississippi River!
Great video Mike! Loved that you caught pickerel and crappie, it shows that it works for a bunch of fish! 👊👊
What size mono are you using Mike? Great video
Any size you want
Turns volume up

Turns volume down alot løl
Agreed!! A very neglected depth... and lure.
Sounds like a cheap reel to me !!!
Why do you talk to us in every video like we are a bunch of 6 graders?
It's an instructional video. When you get to his level, you can talk the way you want in your instructional videos.
