I watched this video and decided to rig one of my new rods I just got up for this technique. Was out today fishing in the middle of the day and not getting much action. About 20 minutes before I was leaving I remembered I had this setup with me and decided to give it a shot. In 10 minutes I had 3 LM. Thanks Mike for the setup. Worked great.

I didn’t have the right type of weight after watching this, but I did have a Walmart Drop Shot tungsten weight. I just took spit ring pliers and opened up the line pinch into a big closed ring. It works in a “pinch”.
After seeing your free rig video last year, I used it with much success fishing Zman Mag Fattyz and Palmetto Bugz for largemouth up to 6 lbs on a Twin Cities lake. Was especially fun when I dropped it right into a big tangled lay down, they couldn't stand it! I did have to use 20lb Berkley 100% flouro for leader to braid on casting rod, otherwise I'd have never gotten the big bass out of the tree. And I'm cheap so used a simple dipsey weight on the rig. Thanks for all your tips!
Hi Mike I was wondering if you was to put the bobber stop on after the weight if it would have the same action? I fish in grass so was thinking having the weight stop about 10in from the lure. I’m thinking rigging it this way you can set it at a constant depth.
Ok This might be a stupid question but whatever What keeps the hook from sliding off all the way to the weight and then if the weight is like the tagged one you used slide right off Do I need a weight with an eyelets? Or do the stoppers hold it enough? Thanks

Any soft plastic baits that can floating and those are best to go with Free Rig or Carolina Rig. I doubt Texas Rig work well.

Could you use 2 smaller bullet weights if you didn’t have a cylinder weight like that one from VMC? Do those water bugs work well on a Carolina Rig?
