Tekken isn't the same without him. I remember in Tekken 5, he was the only one to find out the truth of Jinpachi's resurrection, which fits his role as a detective. This is tekken wiki source. I know that wikis are not to be trusted, but I may have rushed it a bit as this wiki page was mostly correct. This is what they say and their listed source for it. Whilst investigating the drug trade, fellow Hong Kong Interpol detective Lei Wulong discovered that Bryan had connections with drug dealers. Bryan was killed in a shoot-out in Hong Kong, possibly by Lei.[8] See Bryan's Tekken 3 profile. SFXTK, whilst non-canonical, states that Bryan and Lei were partners as detectives. This could fit within Bryan's story, and may also make Lei the shooter who killed Bryan. Further implication of this is given in Bryan's Tekken Tag Tournament ending, where Lei, after initially pausing, repeatedly tries to shoot Bryan. Lei realizes in shock that Bryan is still coming for him. I realized that it might be not confirmed only after double checking later on... I thought that it was canon for years at this point
I believe that if Lei is going to be added theyll have to rework his floor stances to fit Tekken 8s mechanics, due to the absurd mid attacks that can hit grounded from half screen, i.e., Victor, Yoshi, Jun, Asuka, Hwoarang, etc. Simply copying and pasting him from T7 would hurt his floor tactics. Just because the top tournament darlings didnt pick Lei doesnt mean he shouldn't be in the game.. Hes a unique specialist character. Look at the live reaction he got when he was revealed for T7 (although he should've been base roster) & By the "no one uses him" logic Harada needs to abolish tekkenball & fight lounge because no one uses those either.. They literally have to bribe us to enter fight lounge😂
There is still enough love for him, as he is a staple of the series, but yeah, he was always a specialist, never mainstream, so lower play rate shouldn't surprise anyone. But yeah, problem is that a lot of players (me included) love Lei, but they don't play him. He seems too complicated to just pick up, so he is not that good of a choice for casuals. That might be a bit of an issue for his popularity as well. But that is true for all stance characters, and there is still a lot of them in the game, so I don't see why Lei shouldn't be one of them as well.
Hey @mrmoldy, is that Bryan lore true? I’ve never heard that before, did u make that up? I mean it would make sense if u look at his ending in Tekken Tag 1
Lei was investigating Bryan between T2 and T3 and Bryan was killed in the shootout that followed. But it is not known if Lei was the one that shot Bryan. This is not 100% confirmed, just speculation. But given ttt ending and some non canonical sources stating them as former partners, I believe that this one is true.
It also has something to do with Jackie Chan not being that popular anymore. Especially with younger audience. Then again, they don't know who Bruce Lee is either, but Law is still popular somehow. His kit is simpler and flashy enough to capture attention. Also, Law is strong enough to remain popular. Lei didn't have that luck later in his lifespan
it's because lei is designed to fail in modern tekken, Lei was a hard character due to a big move list in a game with already big move lists. but at least he was good right ? T3 and TTT1 he was mad strong. and then sucked for over 20 years since then. his only redeeming factor being his movement options that are specific to him. and anyone that plays modern tekken can tell you what the tekken team think of good movement options lol

@ ok my comment wasnt serious anyway and iam not into all the lore, so the fact that Lei was a fan of her or something wasnt known by me… but i looked up, that shes not asian and have blue eyes etc. The language thing in Tekken is crazy anyway. Is Lei talking in chinese? Despite it still could be possible. her mother could have been non Asian and she can be raised in Japan or in different countries. its also not necessary that they had a stable relationship. And the other option is that shes adopted. i came up with the daughter theory for fun and as some possible explanation of Leis fandom. I dont know how its officially shown/stated.(beeing fan of idols is more of a japanese thing than chinese too i think)
No, but now that you've called it that it hurts a bit 😂 I did use a few background pictures that might be ai, but that's all. It's hard to find good stock footage without subbing to any of the stock image services.
I think that a lot of people have that opinion and that may be the reason for him not coming back. I don't think that he was popular enough in T7 for him to justify a comeback, so you might be lucky. But who knows. I like the character and his pre T7 personality but I agree about him being a frustrating opponent in the actual game.
@mrmoldy it's not that fan's keep crying for old characters to comeback just like Raven but I barely see him online they ask for those characters but nobody playing then I see more bear's than Raven player's and that's saying something that the fans are full of horse maneuver
@@shenelljohnson74 I completely get where you're coming from. It does feel like some fans are more in love with the idea of certain characters than actually playing them. The devs put in all this effort to bring them back, but many players only pick them up for a couple of days before moving on. With Lei, I thought maybe the drastic design changes could explain the lack of interest. But when you look at Raven, he's still very much the same character he’s always been, and yet his popularity remains low. So yeah, either a case of vocal minority, or just a bandwagon of nostalgic fans. Either way, we could have gotten someone who people actually enjoyed playing instead of a wasted DLC spot.
@@mrmoldy People have biases in terms of their own particular experiences with matchmaking, @ShenellJohnson74's opinion is based on their own personal experiences and that don't necessarily correlate with everyone else's. I've had this discussion with friends before, comparing how often certain characters show up, there have been times where I've not seen some characters for days yet my friends are getting multiple fights with those specific characters daily, It's silly to expect the matchmaking to be like "this guy hasn't fought a raven in a while, lets throw one his way" It doesn't really work like that. There is always going to be a a descent with popularity, not everyone can be at the upper end of the graph, it doesn't matter who the hell they add to the game there are going to be a group of characters sat at the bottom, remove those least popular characters and then what? I suspect that these same people would cry about the characters that take their place as least popular and how they should be removed as well, it would be the never-ending story. When people complain about losing to these characters it's a mindset issue, a problem that can be easily solved by making friends with people that play those lesser used characters and practicing against them, Can't expect matchmaking to be the holy grail I personally gravitate towards the least played characters, at first it's to learn how to beat them but then I usually find that they tend to be more fun so I continue playing them. With T8 i learned Raven for the first time and he ended up being who I enjoyed the most, bringing him back wasn't a fail if there are people that ended up liking and picking up the character like I did. As far as Lei Wulong is concerned i think it's half nostalgia and half people wanting a character with a more complex moveset. I was always a fan of the visuals of how he moves, some aspects of his moveset could easily be built upon for entirely new characters, building upon a character that is focused on drunken boxing and those flowing movements.
I don't want him back necessarily. I am just sad that he is a loser in his latest game and that he isn't coming back probably. It would be nice to get him as a cameo at least. That would probably be for the best

People abandoned him❤😢
I believe that if Lei is going to be added theyll have to rework his floor stances to fit Tekken 8s mechanics, due to the absurd mid attacks that can hit grounded from half screen, i.e., Victor, Yoshi, Jun, Asuka, Hwoarang, etc. Simply copying and pasting him from T7 would hurt his floor tactics.
Just because the top tournament darlings didnt pick Lei doesnt mean he shouldn't be in the game.. Hes a unique specialist character.
Look at the live reaction he got when he was revealed for T7 (although he should've been base roster)
& By the "no one uses him" logic Harada needs to abolish tekkenball & fight lounge because no one uses those either..
He no longer looks like Jackie Chan so his popularity dropped drastically.
@@mrmoldythis
it's because lei is designed to fail in modern tekken, Lei was a hard character due to a big move list in a game with already big move lists. but at least he was good right ? T3 and TTT1 he was mad strong. and then sucked for over 20 years since then. his only redeeming factor being his movement options that are specific to him. and anyone that plays modern tekken can tell you what the tekken team think of good movement options lol
Im not buying the game until he come back
maybe lucky chloe is his daughter? 😂
Wouldn't his obsession be even more creepier then?😂
@@mrmoldy well, depends on how they turn out. could be fatherly and supportive fan like. but if he is into her romantically then yeah… than he is NOT her father 🤷♂️
Nope; just his oshi.
_Still_ not a good direction for his character to turn towards.
Lucky Chloe is a Japanese-speaking white girl. That familial relation would be impossible unless she's adopted.
@ ok my comment wasnt serious anyway and iam not into all the lore, so the fact that Lei was a fan of her or something wasnt known by me…
but i looked up, that shes not asian and have blue eyes etc.
A.I Generated?
No, but now that you've called it that it hurts a bit 😂
I did use a few background pictures that might be ai, but that's all. It's hard to find good stock footage without subbing to any of the stock image services.
Easily he retired for good i don't want him back TBH
When people complain about losing to these characters it's a mindset issue, a problem that can be easily solved by making friends with people that play those lesser used characters and practicing against them, Can't expect matchmaking to be the holy grail
I personally gravitate towards the least played characters, at first it's to learn how to beat them but then I usually find that they tend to be more fun so I continue playing them.
I hope he never returns. Been irritating since the older Tekkens
Oh please 😂 stop requesting this character back... People forced Harada to bring back Lei and he's Bottom 2 in Character usage in Tekken 7.
I don't want him back necessarily. I am just sad that he is a loser in his latest game and that he isn't coming back probably.
It would be nice to get him as a cameo at least. That would probably be for the best
