This is a direct quote from Freddie: “All my lovers asked me why they couldn’t replace Mary, but it’s simply impossible. The only friend I’ve got is Mary, and I don’t want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage…We believe in each other. That’s enough for me. I couldn’t fall in love with a man the same way as I have with Mary.” Mary Austin was truly the love of his life.
He left her almost everything. He asked her if she would spread his ashes in a certain spot but he didn’t want anyone to know where it was so she said she was going out for a facial and she went and spread his ashes. Only she knows where. R.I.P Freddie. ❤
No other star could have got 72000 fans to sing their own song back to them like Freddie did because Queen fans were the best they loved this band with a passion. RIP Freddie you gave us your all.
Freddie was conducting the full stadium, but he did the same in Rio in front of 250 thousand. He loved interacting with the audiences all around the world. Pls, check out White Queen at Hammersmith 75.
That guy with all the hair is Dr. Brian May, Ph.D. in Astrophysics. Queen is a British rock group formed in 1970 consisting of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocalist and piano Brian May - Lead guitarist and vocals Roger Tayor - Drummer and vocals John Deacon - Bass guitar. During concerts, only Freddie and Brian were on stage performing this song (John and Roger were backstage probably having a drink) but that was totally different from the studio version. Queen's live performances of their song were often different from the studio version. As Freddie once said, "If you want to hear the original version of the song, buy the bloody record." Actually, Freddie got used to not having to actually sing much of this song since it was common that the audience would sing most of it while Freddie directed them, like here in Rio - ruclips.net/video/gblZ2drKK1M/видео.html. Heck, it was still only Brian and Freddie that would perform this song on stage even after Freddie died (in 1991) - ruclips.net/video/k__yBNF1YYY/видео.html. Queen loved it when the audience sang along with them and did everything to encourage their participation. They wrote songs that encouraged the audience to join in. For example, in the song "We Will Rock You" where much of the music is just the percussion of the audience performing "stomp, stomp, clap" or "In the Lap of the Gods - Revisited" in which the chorus is repeated multiple times to encourage the audience to sing it.
There's something sad to me about this version at Wembly. The color is drained from his face but he goes for it and seems fine. But still, I get that feeling. You were a lucky man that fate brought you to that concert, to remember for a lifetime.
When you see Brian with an acoustic guitar, you always know what the next song is. Freddie kept us in the palm of his hand. The world still misses him.
This song waz written for Mary, Freddie's ex girlfriend b4 he came out. They remained close until his death wherein he left her everything including his house he shared with his partner saying if he'd been different she'd have been his wife. All Freddie's partners had to accept no one could replace Mary that he said in interviews thst it "simply could not be done".
Yesss, I probably watched it 100 + times already…they are all amazing, I sometimes play ‘Love of my Life (a few times) when I cant sleep, it relaxes me and I fall right out…
The final part of this, when he leans back with his arms up, is an iconic shot. I've seen it several places. Wembley Stadium is where Live Aid was held.
Freddie penned this beauty with Brian on a 12-string acoustic guitar! Just beautiful .. Freddie loved his fans! Crowd feeling good .. Freddie feeling good!! The studio version is gorgeous with multi-layered harmonies & a harp which Brian learned to play! Check out Who Wants To Live Forever from same concert! Gorgeous!
It is not possible to do the studio version of this song live because of all the tracks and also, Brian plays a harp on the studio version and I believe John plays an Upright Bass. In order to do this live, Freddie asked Brian to arrange something they could do live and so this version of this song was born. It is an audience favorite and is still included in live shows today. For the final verse, a hologram of Freddie appears where he sings and directs the crowd as they sing along. It is quite touching.
A white haired Brian still used to sing this at gigs in later years, long after Freddie had passed, and he would introduce a hologram of Freddie in the background, singing the last part of the song. Brian would sometimes get quite teary-eyed at this point, and I'm sure the audience did too. You should check out the Rio 2015 or the Altice Arena versions (there are others, but the quality is very poor compared to these two).
I still miss Freddie. Now my daughter flies to Wembley Stadium to see her favourite Bands and musicians. She flies to New York and Vancouver as well just for a concert. We live in Australia.
That guy with the big hair is Dr Brian May, astrophysicist who has worked with NASA. The stadium was Wembley, the old national football stadium and where Live Aid happened in 1985. You should now watch Queen’s Live Aid performance which is considered one of the best rock performances ever seen.
Great reaction! Please check out “Somebody to Love”, “Save Me”, “Play the Game” and “AnotherOne Bites the Dust” all live in Montreal 1981. And “Under Pressure” live at Wembley 1986. You can never go wrong with any live Queen
When you go to a concert live, it is usually 3 hours. Band mates need breaks so often one or two continue with the concert while one or two takes a break. Roger and Deacon were taking their break while Freddy and Dr (yes in Astrophysics) and Sir (yes he is knighted by the Queen) Brian May played this wonderful song. Freddy loved the audience to sing along with him.
Wow! This is awesomeness in the highest level. It's another tour de force performance by the most charismatic vocalist in music history. There are no words to describe Freddie Mercury's out of this world rendition of this beautiful song. Brian May's amazing guitar skill complements well with Freddie's mesmerizing voice.
Sold out show - 70,000 A second night was added, that’s this recording, also sold out. The final show of the tour was at Knebworth in front of at least 120,000
This was an acoustic version which IMHO is perfect for this song, however, if you are a music lover I suggest you check out the studio version too with its beautiful arrangement choices for a rock band, and again Queen didn't disappoint!
To write a love song after splitting from someone but to write it from their perspective as Freddie did with Love of My Life shows so much understanding. The band mates, John Deacon and Roger Taylor, had taken a break as many live performers in grops do. Wembley Stadium is the home of the England football team, it's the national stadium and holds approximately 90,000 people for concerts. A little research into facts about venues, the group your commenting on would go a long way.
Wembley Stadium; a year earlier, Queen stole the show at Live Aid from that very same stage. A little more than five years after this concert, Freddie Mercury had left us.
I went to the gig after this one, a stately home called Knebworth. It turned out to be their last ever gig in the UK though no one knew that at the time, not even Queen. Was it amazing, were they wonderful? What do YOU think? 😊
For concerts, maximum capacity, including the people on the pitch, was 72,000 due to the staging closing off several of the exits. Capacity was 82,000 for matches.
The was usually about half way through the show. The drummer and bassist go off for a few minutes break while Freddie and Brian do this. There is also a break to let Freddie and Brian have a break while maybe John Deacon (bassist) will do something or Roger Taylor will do a drum solo.
Freddie is/was a big star here in Europe with 'Queen'. Listen to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen, you will enjoy. Also listen too the same performed by 150 musicians 'Rocknmob' Sochi
Us brits loved them and they loved us and included us all the time they had and have no big egos and respected their fans ..superstars ..watch the fans at a greenday concert in hyde park london sing bo rap waiting for greenday to come on stage ...word for word around 60,000 in unison perfectly ..
Brian May was voted the best living guitarist today! He is also Dr Brian May, an Astrophysicist! Just him & Freddie on stage, Freddie’s voice & Brian’s 12 string guitar perfectly complimenting each other! Love this, more Queen please! Love from Oz! ❤️
He is truly a talented guitarist but the greatest living? Not even close. What about Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Slash, John Mayer, Jeff Beck or Keith Richards? I love Queen and Brian May but not the greatest. That is my opinion and like yours we all have one. LOL
There is a youtube video of the guitarist Brian May singing this song in 2014, while Queen was in Japan. The crowd goes wild when Freddie makes an appearance.
Yes, this is the extremely stripped down version. The studio one has a harp & a guitar (both played by Brian May) and a piano. The live version is just killer for its simplicity.
And as debra boiling pointed out, Brian has a PhD in astrophysics, John deacon had a 1st class honours degree in electronics, Roger a degree in biology . Freddie degree in art and design and they all wrote hit records . The best ever

Nice reaction to my generations Liberace. Queen was Freddie. If I may suggest a song called Roundabout by Yes I think you'll love it and have plenty to talk about. Album version first always to hear the bands original idear. 🙏🍁
Freddie hated it when people equated the band and himself. He vehemently said that he was just the singer and no more important than any of the other three.
63,000 people all singing with Freddie what a tribute to the man and the song which he wrote for mary
This is a direct quote from Freddie: “All my lovers asked me why they couldn’t replace Mary, but it’s simply impossible. The only friend I’ve got is Mary, and I don’t want anybody else. I was there with my girlfriend in 75. It was an unforgettable experience.
Not 75 in the eighties
@@anne-mariesindruprix4792 I was responding to Andrea who mentioned the 75 concert and I referred to it in kind.
That guy with all the hair is Dr. Brian May, Ph.D. in Astrophysics.

I was there that night just underneath the big spotlight in the roof, the best gig I ever went to.
There's something sad to me about this version at Wembly. The color is drained from his face but he goes for it and seems fine. But still, I get that feeling. You were a lucky man that fate brought you to that concert, to remember for a lifetime.
Jammie!
Me too! Unforgettable experience next to Genesis, Led Zep and Pink Floyd at Nebworth in consecutive years. Boy were we born lucky!
When you see Brian with an acoustic guitar, you always know what the next song is. Freddie kept us in the palm of his hand. The world still misses him.
His singing is soo...operatic...and theatrical...emotional and haunting..
After all these years, someone else begins to realise how great Freddie was as a front man. Often imitated but never equalled.
What a front man Freddie was.... superb voice! RIP Freddie.
This song waz written for Mary, Freddie's ex girlfriend b4 he came out. They remained close until his death wherein he left her everything including his house he shared with his partner saying if he'd been different she'd have been his wife. Freddie wrote this song for Mary Austin his bestest friend in the whole world
I was there, aged 16, wonderful day
An intimate song, Freddie, Brian and 72,000 fans. How beautiful ❤
The final part of this, when he leans back with his arms up, is an iconic shot. I've seen it several places. Wembley Stadium is where Live Aid was held.
They always did an acoustic set during their shows.
Supreme confidence to just raise your arms and garner that response.

Michael , I was at this concert . Freddies last live performance. Best band ever . And ur right it is a 12 string
Last Tour but last concert was Knebworth
A white haired Brian still used to sing this at gigs in later years, long after Freddie had passed, and he would introduce a hologram of Freddie in the background, singing the last part of the song. Brian would sometimes get quite teary-eyed at this point, and I'm sure the audience did too. You should check out the Rio 2015 or the Altice Arena versions (there are others, but the quality is very poor compared to these two).
He still sings it nowadays at concerts (with Freddie hologram)
The studio version is a whole different ball game - harp, piano and big Queen harmonies - totally worth checking out, on Night At The Opera.
Freddie the legend ❤ Queen 🙌
I still miss Freddie. Now my daughter flies to Wembley Stadium to see her favourite Bands and musicians. She flies to New York and Vancouver as well just for a concert. We live in Australia.

The power of a guitar and an amazing voice. Goosebumps.
The great Queen there’s so much more for you to hear, no band can touch them In my opinion. I’m a lifelong fan since 1974
2022 we miss you Freddie xxx
Freddie opens his arms and they all sing for him. Fantastic, he has no equal at playing live and getting the crowd participating.
This song always brings tears to my eyes. Mary and Freddie loved each other so much.
Great reaction! Please check out “Somebody to Love”, “Save Me”, “Play the Game” and “AnotherOne Bites the Dust” all live in Montreal 1981. And “Under Pressure” live at Wembley 1986. You can never go wrong with any live Queen
Try .... Queen .."Is This The World We Created" ( Live Aid ) , again just Freddie on vocal and Brian on guitar , beautiful
This is a special performance.
Freddie had an energy, a way with the audience, no one will ever come close to that energy again. RIP Freddie
I was there it was the best night of my life he’s a brilliant entertainer with the greatest voice ever, so sad we lost him.
I was in that crowd. Happy days.

“That guy” with the hair is Dr Brian May, original member. He has a PHD is astrophysics, as a side gig. And stellar guitarist.
Freddie was born to sing to a stadium full of people .. this is such a lovely song .. he wrote it about his first love
Nobody like Freddie. Wonderful. RIP lovely man.
So true thanks Pauline!!! All the best my friend!!😁🙏
Freddie was the puppet master....the audience his puppets dancing to his tune.
In 1986, none of the band members had died yet, they were there taking a break for the acoustic set, that's all.
Two blokes and a guitar … magic.

Beautiful
Watch the Live Aid concert Wembley stadium 1986.. Freddie sang 16 songs..And the Love of my life was sang before the end of the concert..
The studio version is complex and amazing! Brian learned the harp and John learned the double bass.❤❤
Listen to Lap of the gods by queen the Odeon live. It’s mind blowing crazy how good it is.
Freddie invites the audience to sing.

Бравооооо Фредди !!!!!!!!
Freddie Mercury wrote Bohemian rhapsody and he Plays the piano in that song and he died from Aid's in 1993 such a sad LOSS to the FAN'S of QUEEN
He did 1991.
This is not a stripped back version. This is it. Freddie and Brian did this. Roger and John sat this one out as drums and bass weren't needed for the ballad. After Freddie passed on, Brian performed the song solo.
sound quality on this video is fantastic..wow
thank you so much!!
Freddie was once asked what his favourite instrument was, “The audience darling” was Freddie’s reply. Time for you to actually learn about Queen. The BEST live band ever.
Quite the reverse the simplest melodies are the peacefulest.
Not a stripped down version, this is how they always do it.
Used to it…Freddie thrived on it…and yes you don’t know
And 5 years after this, Freddy Mercury died. I can only imagine the amazing music he had left in him, and be incredibly saddened.
Only the 2 of them because it didn't need anything else. I alo think it was meant to express the innocence and beauty of his love for Mary❤
Pure talent
