    Hello,
    Thank you for this very interesting video and description.
    I've had a pair of quartets in Genese for 5 years now and I'm very happy with them too.
    I have made a few small modifications to improve them..
    I asked a technician to modify the filters by removing the poliswitches, I changed the capacitors, and rewired the internal wiring. Today they sing wonderfully associated with a musical fidelity msi5 and a nad c658.
    Now I am very happy with the result .

    Tarun is a guide and he is here to aid you in what may be a difficult choice. Speakers can make or break a system’s voice, so being well informed is key to not making a poor choice. Be mindful and listen well to what Tarun says. This could prevent a poor decision which you will regret. Try finding a dealer which will allow you an audition at home as this is the best way to really know for sure what you are getting. That may be difficult to find, but it would be worth it. Stay safe mates!😊👍🏻😷

    Good review detailing the tradeoffs inherent in the HiFi pursuit. I agree they look great with the grills on, I disagree that they don't look as good sans grills. I find the industrial design / styling of the drivers, port, and base above average. Details like the silver badge tie it all together into an elegant result.

    Hi Tarun! I own the exact speakers in piano black finish. I have conpared them to a couple of more expensive speakers, harbeth, sonus faber, and prefered the triangle quartet. I own them for about 3 years and I would only change them with speakers in the top range from triangle, the magellan series. I think they are very fast, detailed and fun speakers. Your review was as always spot on. Also i really enjoyed the video with the dac power supply. I own a chord hugo2 and I am really temped to try a high end power source. Best regards!

      Very interesting Narekaci. I am reviewing the Trios next. They potentially could have many of the Quartets qualities but without the drawbacks. Much earlier to integrate 2 drivers than 4. I am keen to find out. I was reluctant to review the Boreas as there are so many reviews already out there. I may have to rethink this if the Trios turn out to be any good. It may be interesting to see how they compare to the Trios but I am getting ahead of myself 🤔

    Thanks Tarun. Beautiful and unique speakers. I have a pair of Triangle Borea Br03. A really excellent speaker in it's price range. One oddity, the hole in the binding post screw on caps have a hole in the end supposedly to allow a banana plug to enter. The problem is that the hole is .010" too small to allow the passage of a banana connector. You can remove the cap to fit bananas or do as I did, and drill out the hole to .171". I chamfered the hole as long as I was at it. I have no idea why this anomaly exists but it might help explain Peugeots. .

    Hello Tarun, I hope I wrote your name correctly. I came across your channel recently while researching for a new pair of HiFi speakers, and I'm glad I did. So thank you for all the time, research, energy, and effort you do so that the likes of me can make an informed decision before purchasing a set of speakers and other high end electronics.
    I'm not an audiophile, and don't know much about the technical aspects of neither speakers nor amplifiers. I'm just a simple guy who enjoy good music. In that regard I'm learning a whole lot from watching your videos.
    I want to upgrade and try a different brand. Hence why I'm interested in Triangle, but hesitating between the Genese Quartet and the Delta Signature. Their design appeals to my senses. Where I live the Delta cost 6000€ whereas the Quartet is half the price, but they are hard to get hold of. I'll have to order them from abroad, which deprives of the chance of listening to them before I can decide.
    I've had the chance to listen to the Delta, let me just say that the richness of the sound spoke to my soul! In your review of the Quartets you say that they are all about "tonality, dynamics, and engagement." You also touched on clarity and resolution being sacrificed as a result. Quartet is in the high mid range of the Genese lineup, can lack of clarity and resolution be justified at this price bracket from such a household name, or is this a matter of taste? Have you had the chance to review the Delta, did you notice the same clarity and resolution issues? I know they are worlds apart, but is the difference in technical details, material and sound quality worth the price difference?
    Given your extensive knowledge, your insight would greatly be appreciated, and your opinion even more so.
    Warm regards,
    Saxe

    • @abritishaudiophile7314
      @abritishaudiophile7314  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Saxe. It is great to have feedback like that. Quite often a fuller, richer sound comes at the expense of clarity. You can have both but that comes with increased cost. I haven’t heard the Signatures but I suspect they will have greater clarity. The Genese is an older design. You may be interested in watching my review of the 40th Anniversary Cométe which has more modern driver. They do the Antal floorstander version too. Link below 👍😊👍

    • @MovieViking
      @MovieViking 10 месяцев назад

      I would like to add "not for every room" as the tweeters are very sweet sounding provided there's enough room height and preferably also a rug on the floor and something absorbing on the ceiling is mandatory if the height is lower than 2,5 x the height of the Quartets. In the room this video was shot in it is easy to hear that it has acoustical problems (way to long RT60 and most likely a lot of flutter echo as well)

  • @MovieViking
    @MovieViking Год назад

    I own the Genese Quartets and love them, but I cannot agree with them being forgiving in terms of room acoustics. In nordic hoses with relatively moderate ceiling heights the height of the Quartets places the horn tweeter almost mid way between floor and ceiling and if both are hard surfaces (hardwood, painted wood, plaster) the reflections arrive almost simultaneously and at a too high level and causes smearing and an unpleasant hardness. A nice rug and ecophon solo on the ceiling made for a small miracle.
    Also, bi-amping is a must if using ie AV-receivers or other moderately current capable amps to power them

    Thanks for the review. I have a longstanding relationship with Triangle and still have a pair of Cometes and a TE60 stuffed up in the loft. There was something about the fun factor of their gear that stopped me discarding those units when I upgraded my system past their level, many years ago. Triangle do seem to aim towards a dense and pungent sound but have you considered the environment of your system? Just my opinion but it looks like your room might need some additional damping. Also, I've never received such true musical benefit as when I invested in purer mains and vibration control. I don't know if you've experimented in that area but I only ( after 25 years of gear in and out ) achieved true musical satisfaction once I invested into improving the environment of my system.
    I honestly think it is worthwhile spending as much on the vibration suppression, mains and cabling as on the system. I'd much rather have a system with £5000 spent on the above and the same on the 'core' components than £10,000 spent on just CD, amp and speakers, with minimal investment in what surrounds, supports and feeds that system. Endlessly upgrading electronics and speakers only brought some ( admittedly very welcome and necessary ) 'hifi' improvements ( resolution, tonality, definition, soundstaging ) but improving the environment made the music sensical and relatable, which I believe is the core of musical enjoyment. For lack of a better way of putting it, the 'soul' of music really only arrived then and I can swap in and out gear belonging to friends and the musical 'core' is always accessible. Anyway, perhaps you are completely happy with your system as is but thought I'd throw in my twopence. Sorry if I sound like a reviewer for HiFi+ but that's my honest experience. Thanks for an enjoyable channel and all the effort you put in.

    Thank you for the review. How was shipping? Any damage problems? I am a bit nervous about ordering electronic gear through delivery service, but these and a few other of the Triangle models seem like a great deal. You mentioned wide vs. narrow disbursement speakers this is what I am battling now in choosing the "best educational guess" in speaker design for my 17'Wx29'Lx6'H drop ceiling. I anticipate any speaker being about 7 to 8 feet apart from one another and about 2 to 3 feet away from side walls. So far I love the Klipsch Forte III's but their very wide disbursement nature may not work. Thoughts? I looked at the Fyne Audio F502 w/ concentric compression tweeter driver in what I guess is a narrow disbursement speaker, that may be better suited for the room, that is until I watched this video. Suggestions? I also demoed the Focal Chora 826, yes not a horn (my favorite type of speaker) but still it has a high efficiency rating (equally as important to me as horns) but it may be a wide disbursement speaker too, as I heard it extending to the side cabinets strongly. Your thoughts? Stay Healthy. Cheers.

    I really like your format for these reviews. By providing *adjacent* pros and cons of individual characteristics, you answer the same questions that pop into my head in real time. There are a couple of questions that come to mind. Does the tweeter placement put it above ear level in a typical arrangement, and does that have an effect? Does the grille cloth make a substantial difference in sound qualities? (It is a pretty/awfully ugly speaker without the grille.)
    I'm glad of the selection of driver amplifiers you have. To me, this can be the most important aspect of a review: should I have to buy a different amp to accomodate a set of speakers?
    I tend to admire Triangle's design features as regards driver surrounds and cone surfaces. You inspire me to want to hear them, but not to buy them without hearing them. That's a good thing.

      Hi Jim, I appreciate your support and it is good to hear from. I suspect the acoustic centre of the speaker is somewhere between the tweeter and midrange. Still, higher than most people’s listening height. Not a problem unless you are within 2 and half meters distance from the speakers. The definitely do sound better with the grills off. It isn’t heaven and earth but noticeable al the same. Thankfully the grills are magnetic and easy to remove 🧲 Thank you for watching and commenting 😉👍

    Hi Tarun, Greetings from Vienna. I was following many of your Reviews and got inspired to look into buying a mid range Amplifier. I still do not understand how to match my speakers with the rating of the Amplifier. I have two Canton Chrono 509 DC speakers . The speakers shows a rating of 4-8 Ohm, 160/320Watt . My question is what power rating shall I look for in an Amplifier for these speakers. If I have to match with 160watt as a minimum then its a expensive beast, which I cannot afford now. Currently I am using a Onkyo TX -Nr 636 AV (rating 60W) to drive these speakers and I guess there is big room for improvement. Can you suggest me some amplifiers for these speakers in a 1000-1500euro range.

    Nice review again.
    2 woofers of 160mm means 201 sq cm between them, which converts to a single 22.6 cm diameter woofer (8.9"). Are two better than one bigger? As they are parallel, there is an impedance issue, but they will be faster, more precise that the inertia of a larger one.
    As to the "horny" character (pardon my intended pun), toe in beyond straight at your ears gives a wider listening position optimum and is especially convenient when the horns are at their best when the edge of the sonic cone touches your ear, not the center.
    As to the woolly nature, at 1.23 m high, they seem rather high for a relaxed listening position.
    As to the impedance going low, their crossover was designed to break apart for bi-amping - it would be really interesting to discover what the sonic effect would be if you bi-amp these.
    Note - 160mm is 6.3" not 5.5" = there are 25.4 mm in an inch. When you go decimal, then note that units are chosen by the experience depending on context. In the imperial system you do that too. You walk 5 kilometers, have a car 4.4m long, have a height of 1m86 m (i.e. 1 m and 86 cm). Also, when we use a unit, we imply a level of precision. "1230 mm high" means "between 1229.5 mm and 1230.5 mm high". The mm unit is used in construction cases. When we describe smaller things, we move to cm and for the tine to mm, etc.

I notice how lively it is in every video. My room is treated to deal with both flutter echo and 1st/2nd reflection points. I'm also in a basement with carpet. A few days ago I experimented and removed the absorbers that handle just the flutter echo but left the reflection point absorbers and the tonality of my system instantly became bright and the soundstaging became messy and greatly lost depth and width. I know treatments aren't ideal from a visual standpoint. Are you considering doing any treatments?

Apple Ahhh!!! I have to use a 3.5mm to USB C adapter and they all sound awful. Tried a few. The lavalier mic overloads the audio (to much gain) and the shotgun mic doesn’t have enough gain and picks up too much room sound. Both mics are much better with my sons iPad which has a 3.5mm input. I can’t justify spending a whole lot at the moment in video and audio gear, so not sure what I can do to fix the problem.

      Hi Atri, thank you for the suggestion. Holographic imaging is not easy to achieve. Most systems produce a good left to right soundstage but one that lacks depth. Getting a truly 3D soundstage and precise imaging within it is a shortcoming of 2 channel audio. It can be done with very good quality (expensive) components and a room set up correctly. High end multi channel audio systems do better but are even more expensive and have to be fed with high quality, well mastered multi channel recordings. There are only a handful of those, mainly for demo purposes to showcase what is possible. You might find this link interesting...

I have had my fare share of French and English speakers, currently owning Focal speakers and I still have some 20 years old Triangle Antal speakers. I tremendously enjoyed the ruthless ATC scm20 when living in the UK.A very good friend there owned your Proac Response 1 SC and I spent many nights listening to those singing beauties. French and British people don't sound the same for sure and the extra politeness of the British can be found in their speakers (may be not ATC).
    British rooms are not that large on average and I was wondering what is the size of your listening room? If your listening position is close to the back wall, I would expect a slightly muddied sound from this speaker, which could explain some of your impressions. I also really like the Elac Navis ARB-51 which are more widely available. A bit more than $1,500 but have amplifiers built in. I hope that helps. Thank you for watching 😉👍

Not sure about a French sound as such. Triangle and Focal are both well known French speaker brands and both sound quite different. Good question. Thank you for watching 😉

    Has nothing to do with ALL horn-loaded tweeter. I have horn-loaded tweeter and the cymbals and strings sound behind the speaker.
    There is plenty of air, what you do not get is the "echo" feel from the room the recording happens, so it sounds more like your room than some other room.

    I have the complete opposite opinion after a 6h listening session. Its the speakers that sounded boring to me. They did not excite once. These Triangles sounded completely seperated from eachother. They did not work together to create a stage, not even 2D, f.e. the voices came from each speaker and not from a single point between the speakers. Moving them closer to eachother and more off the back wall or moving them entirely did not improve anything. They lacked dynamics as well and no real separation between instruments, no transparancy at all.
    Furthermore, the buildquality was not excellent. That plastic twinbase port looked cheap, the finish didn't look great eather and the rubbery finish on the tweeter felt sticky. Could be my general expectations are too high for speakers in this price range, since they are only about 2400 euro, but then again, I would not spend that kind of money for the quality I heard.

    That room sounds horrible.
    How can you pay so much money for audio equipment, to then place it in an untreated room? It makes no sense to me.
    Edit: I take back some of what I’ve said previously. After watching your video on speaker setup, I think I understand a bit more.
    So, let’s say you were a sound engineer about to do a final mix. Am I right in saying, you would also use a designed and treated studio environment? And although that may sound better from a critical listening standpoint, that room only has one intended purpose. But this room isn’t intended to be a studio environment. It’s purpose is to be a place you can enjoy quality sounding music, to your own level of listening satisfaction. Yet still have the room be kinda lively and open, so it feels you’re in a home rather than a commercial setting.
    So rather than adapting the environment to work better with the speakers, audiophiles tend to try and look for the speakers that work best sonically with that specific room.
    If you took the time to respond to this, it’d be much appreciated. Not being an audiophile myself, I’d like to know if my understanding of this is somewhat correct, being as a lot of audiophiles tend to just shun you the moment you mention room treatment.
    I hope you have a good day.

    • @abritishaudiophile7314
      @abritishaudiophile7314  4 года назад +1

      Hi, room treatment is beneficial but many people don’t understand how much of it you need of it to make a difference. You need to know what you are doing and deal with specific problems, be it bringing down the RT60 time or flattening bass resonance peaks. The good news is that a well designed speaker with good off-axis performance can sound very good in a normal living space as long as the speakers is well chosen for the room and set up correctly. My room sounds pretty good. The problem I have is that I shoot these videos on my iPad Pro and have to convert the mic’s 3.5mm output to USB C into the iPad. There lies the problem. Thank you for watching and your feedback 😉

    • @TheFakeNewsFrog
      @TheFakeNewsFrog 4 года назад +1

      A British Audiophile - Hi, thanks for the response.
      I feel we’re both kind of on the same page then. You’re right. Some people treat their rooms without understanding of what they’re actually doing, this sometimes results in a poorer sound. In a professional environment, the ideal is a flat frequency response, not a dead one. And too much of the wrong treatment, or even the wrong kind of treatment in places, can really kill the sound or cause a multitude of other unwanted effects.
      Now I’m no expert, and I’m still trying to understand things like, what I need to do in certain rooms, why I need to do those things, how to target specific frequency ranges more effectively, and so on... So I can almost guarantee your understanding of this subject is a lot greater than mine. But I’m currently building a small home studio, and I’m nearly at the room treatment stage. So this genuinely peaked my interest, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
      Regarding my opinion of the sound of your room in the video, I just thought it sounded really lively. I agree though, that isn’t exactly the greatest of recording paths haha. But hey, I guess it’s convenient and it works. Plus, you’re producing some really good content, and that’s what matters. I also really like the fact that you don’t try to blow smoke up peoples arses. There’s too many audiophiles that do that, and it tends to give the rest a sort of ‘bad reputation’. So honestly, keep up the good work you’re doing. It can be very informative.
      If you ever consider an upgrade to your audio rig though, but want to still keep it fairly portable, I’d highly recommend the Sound Devices MixPre-3 with something like a Shure SM7B. It’s a battery powered recorder, for portability and convince. I’ve not used it myself, but I know a few people who have, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about them. And the larger MixPre-10 has been used on multiple albums from bands such a Tool.
      Regarding the sound of my studio control room, I think I might just get someone in to help me design something acoustically sufficient. With it not being very large, I don’t want to risk killing the sound, or wasting money having to redo it. So if you happen to know anyone from the midlands area, that you’d recommend, it’d be much appreciated.
      And if you ever consider making a video covering room treatment, different listening environments, maybe even speakers with room calibration. Like monitors from Genelec, or using the Sonarworks Reference 4 software. Then I would love to hear a more in-depth opinion about the subjects.
      I hope you have a great day anyway. Cheers.

      @abritishaudiophile7314  4 года назад +1

      Thank you The Fake News Frog🐸 I appreciate your advice on the mic and mixer choice, I certainly need it. It is not my area of expertise.
      It is tricky to get good low frequency response in small rooms. They inherently have resonances further up the frequency range merely due to the dimensions. You need quite a lot of bass traps to get them under control. Start with the corners, floor to ceiling, and then take it from there. I will do a video on the subject, although my knowledge only takes me so far. I can’t justify having bass traps in my living space to the extent that they would make a difference. Fortunately, there are some work arounds. Getting the speaker position right is the main thing as you can shift the resonances out of your listening position and get a reasonable decent bass response. Also, having subs helps. One good, two even better. By moving from 2 bass sources (main speakers) to 4 bass sources (mains + subs) you can get a much flatter bass response. They are an effective active bass management solution.
      The other thing I would focus on, is the RT60 time. Most studios want to get this between 0.3 and 0.7s. I personally think if it is below 1 sec for a domestic listening room, your are good. You don’t want it to be too dead as this kills spacial effects, weakens the central image and causes a dip in the frequency response at around 2khz due to head related transfer functions. Specifically, head shadowing. Also, as I test speakers, I need to determine their off axis performance and I don’t want to kill the first reflection points as this marks if there are any problems with the off axis performance of the speaker. Once again thank you for watching and contributing 😉👍
