Cool fact about hyenas: They have one of the most complex social hierarchies - while female hyenas will always usually be the most dominant over males, they also have different coalitions that they form with their own group of leading females. So if this episode followed hyena dynamics more closely, Xander and the rest of the guys of the pack would not only be submissive every time women raised their voices, there'd be in-fighting between the two girls. I'll admit it's nitpicking on my end - hyena magic probably doesn't need to be biologically accurate for the point of the episode's story, lol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Flutie went out way too early. The Pack was An interesting episode mirroring gang culture and pressure that comes with it. One of the best episodes of S1 but stick with it, this show just matures into an incredible show in later series. We see Xander as a really nasty person once under the influence of the pack, turning on Willow with very hurtful remarks, once again showing how this can happen with peer pressure to maybe impress others. A pretty decent episode for S1. On small technical criticism of the title is Hyenas are usually referred to collectively as a Clan, not a Pack. Anyway great X-Files reference in this episode when Buffy says to Giles 'stop trying to Scully me'.
That's actually a misconception about hyenas and lions. Probably because of The Lion King lol. Lions are bigger, faster, and stronger, but hyenas also have the numbers (they can get over 100 members). If I'm mistaken, Lions actually will scavenge off of hyenas more than the other way around. Hyenas have one of the top success kill rates in the world. Becausee they work as a group, when they hunt, they can run for a really long time (and their prey are usually still alive when theyvstart eating, but they let the younger ones eat first, the opposite of lions, so that's cute). "Pack" is one of the terms of a group of hyenas, as well as "clan" and "cackle" (lions are "pride").

Playing catch-up with your Buffy playlist. : ) Super Xander-fan here. What absolutely infuriates me about this fandom, is that even as early as season one, the fandom is so busy hating on Xander they ignore Willow's huge red flag in this episode. She's exhibiting grade-a stalker behavior. The girl knows his blood pressure. The only way she could know that is if she hacked his medical records at the hospital OR she hacked his school records from his last physical. Everyone ignores that though, because Willow is the fandom darling. Then when she does something shady in later episodes people always seem so surprised.
Hi guys, just wanted to say I'm loving the Buffy and Charmed reactions! If you guys get the chance to squeeze in another series in between the two, you should give the Buffy spinoff series, Angel, a chance. It takes place after season 3 of Buffy and correlates into the other seasons. Much love and keep up the good work.😊
The band in the first episode is Velvet Chain. They were heavily involved in the fandom. Tge main peolle are the dinger abd her husband, the bassist, who passed in 2020. The fiest band I saw after moving to LA. They became friends of mine. I like watching David/Angel move to stay in the shot when Buffy is trying to tell Owen he can't come to the funeral home. The Pack is the episode that officially hooked me. It showed Nick had some range. Random thing I recently learned. If you have ever watched Smosh, cast member Olivia Sui is engaged (or now married to) Sam Lerner, son of Ken Lerner, Principal Flutie's son. My guess is the rest of thepack kids are in a mental asylum for the criminally insane.

I am LOVING your reactions to Buffy (and everything else). I wouldn't be mad if you watched more episodes each week :) You don't have to hold back on our account. Watch it! Go ahead... LOL
Never Kill A Boy On The First Date I thought was one of the weakest episodes of S1 to be fair. The first season was very low budget and erratic as show was finding it's feet. You will notice a massive step up mid way through S2 and as it goes forward it just gets better and better. Great that you are enjoying the show after only five episodes. You will love this show as it moves forward. An interesting thing in this episode is we are shown that Buffy is just a teenage girl, with all the desires and urges that go along with that, and just wants a 'normal' life too, which we know is just not possible.
I know someone else mentioned but I needed to say it again: you need to watch Repo! The Genetic Opera if you like Anthony Steward Head, he sings there (a lot!) and it's a movie with a lot of gore so you could count it as horror js... Anyway, I don't like how out of nowhere the whole Owen thing comes, but I understand why they did it, hated how Cordelia acted this episode, come on girl, you're better than that lol.
The Pack really showed the show is ok with being dark. It changed the vibe and I loved it. Season 1 is not my fave. It is up and down as they figured out what they are doing, but still a great show. I feel like every 90s/early 2000s show needed an excuse to throw in a good character commits SA, but it's not really their fault ep. Definitely hard to watch those eps now, but I remember the culture. I was 11 when Buffy first aired and I never missed an episode. Xander didn't age as well as other characters. Back then he was such a normal guy we didn't see red flags like at all. Maybe that is why I still like him, though I know he has issues. I hate the actor, but I can mostly separate. It broke my heart when Willow basically blamed Buffy. That had to hurt Buffy so much when she has done nothing but be a friend to them. A lot of people feel like Xander being able to fake memory loss made it so Buffy couldn't deal with her trauma. I feel a lot of conflicting emotions. Characterwise I am ok with it. I think everyone kind of understood he was possessed and not in control of his actions. Culturally: yes, if looking at cultural responsibility it was swept under the rug big time. It could be compared to a guy getting drunk, and that is no excuse irl. So on that level they dropped the ball, but it is hard to apply that comparison to a main character. This is closer a metaphor than say demon possession because it isn't a separate mind. It is a ramping up of his natural desires, kind of like how being drunk isn't someone else being in control. That said, I disagree with anyone who says this proves Xander is capable of or desiring to SA normally. Unless someone is asexual or something similar we all have sexual thoughts or desires. You ramp it up 1000% in any of us we are capable. It doesn't mean we are all you know at heart. I can understand almost any take on this episode but that one. This comment went heavy but Xander discussions are big in almost every group I am in. This is a central ep for it. I love this show because all our characters are complex and have strengths and weaknesses. Women, especially Buffy, have been shown to be Xander's. He is head over heels for her and being a child with no real good influences he is terrible at dealing with it.
Buffy's sign hasn't been established yet. So don't listen to anyone telling when her birthday is. Buffy has 3 different birthdays given in the 1st season.
Definitely a Dawson Creek song and moment. I've watched almost all of Dawson's Creek, my favorite character is Joey, who is also a total hottie played by Katie holmes.
Season one was a mid-season filler, which is why there are only twelve episodes and why its mostly monster of the week. Season two is where it all picks up with better storytelling, character arcs, and a season long plot.
The hyenas being scavengers is a myth that ppl got from lion king smmfh. I hate that movie. Hyenas chase down and eat their prey themselves usually eating while the victim is still alive. Lions actually steal from hyenas and honestly kinda bully them to the point of killing the kids and crippling the adults by breaking their spines...
“Willow needs to befriend some gay people.” 😂 Couldn’t agree more!

I would love to see y'all react the Buffy movie, which is a prequel to the show.
She's Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius.... Oh God I'm such a geek! 🙈😆 ... In my defense I remember because I have the same birthdate ♑♒
Buffy later says she’s a Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius
angel is very mysterious is wow if you know you know wait till later on and maybe also something else if your doing that later on :)
27:50 A better strategy would be to stand in front, get hit first, and go watch the game from the sidelines.
You know what makes more sense than Buffy being a Gemini? Being a Capricorn. Buffy Anne Summer was born on January 19th, 1981.
Buffy is a Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius. :)
Yaasss Queensss 💅
Season one was a mid-season filler, which is why there are only twelve episodes and why its mostly monster of the week. Season two is where it all picks up with better storytelling, character arcs, and a season long plot.
❤️❤️ Please start reacting to Supernatural. I would love to go on that journey with y’all.
She's a Capricorn, January 19th, 1981, HOWEVER, Dawn IS a Gemini!
She’s a Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius fyi 😊
capricorn on the cusp of aquarius
The hyenas being scavengers is a myth that ppl got from lion king smmfh. I hate that movie. Hyenas chase down and eat their prey themselves usually eating while the victim is still alive. Lions actually steal from hyenas and honestly kinda bully them to the point of killing the kids and crippling the adults by breaking their spines...
buffy is a capricorn (not me forgetting this was posted months ago)
The hyena episode was always WILD 🤣❤️
You guys are already in season three, so it's not a spoiler to say how spot on your assumptions about Giles were.
I had a mad crush on Willow until I found out no Willow NO...
It’s so interesting to hear about how people loved the pack episode, im rewatching Buddy because of you guys and I disliked that episode the most 😅
You guys NEED to do Xena next for the gay girlies!
