Absolutely! I’ve seen the series through AT LEAST 4 times…and there are episodes that STILL make me cry. I’m so so happy you guys are doing this series. I just love your reactions. And Cody….DAMN!! You are are on fire with calling the plot before it’s revealed!! Your insight is so impressive.
I have always loved that in the season finale, Buffy was ready to let the world burn until someone made Willow cry. That was the line evil could not cross
sarahs acting during her breakdown scene when shes yelling at giles and angel is incredible... she has some lame line deliveries in the episode overall but that scene shakes me every time
@@thbemky827 Looking at the quality of acting by the very attractive leads in some teen-centric shows today, I must say BTVS really lucked out landing 4 truly world-class acting talents in Sarah, Alyson, Anthony, and another actor whose character hasn't appeared yet. Sarah, in particular, delivered many Emmy worthy performances throughout this show's run.
You can tell that when Buffy looks down at the master and calls him a loser that she is NOT okay, like she is traumatised, and it leads perfectly into the second season. I love how they make everyone in the show real, like internal trauma and stuff.
There's a storied history of academic studies of this show. There's even a Wikipedia page for the concept of "Buffy Studies" - using Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a lens to evaluate culture, language, media, and a variety of disciplines.
You guys have quickly become one of my favorites reacting to Buffy. you're so funny and seem really sweet. I can't wait to see you react to the rest of the series! Buckle up, it's gonna be crazy! :))
Um... if I remember that crap correctly, that sidekick guy of the movie "Buffy" turned it into a tutu pretty early. And it was so neat, that I was convinced it had perforation.
If you really want to get into the academic side of Buffy, I recommend both Rhonda Wilcox's "Why Buffy Matters: The Art of Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Philosophy: Fear and Trembling in Sunnydale" edited by James South. But wait on getting them because they're spoilery.
The really sad thing about Marcie is that she must have been just as invisible at home. I can't remember if they touch on this in the episode, but if she's not officially a missing person then that also means that her family either didn't notice or didn't care that she was gone. So awful!
I can vouch. I took an English 400 level class in university and the course was focused on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was essentially us going through certain episodes and doing "book report" type studies on each. Because I was already a massive fan and had seen the series several times over, it was an easy GPA boost 😅
YESS!!!!! Buffy is actually the most studied tv show (like amount of college classes wise), and my favorite Buffy books are "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Myth, Metaphor, & Morality" and "Joss Whedon & Race," but the second discusses all of the Whedon-verse
The Finale Prophecy Girl definitely the best episode of S1. Many who are new to the show complain about the special effects, but have to bear in mind this is 26yo show, and S1 did not have a massive budget, plus the writers were conscious of the fact they never knew if it would be recommissioned. Here you can really see the direction of the show changing, giving all the characters so far much more purpose. This incredible show just gets better and better, you will love S2. Some comic relief also, this show has the best one liners ever. The Master ' what do ya think, 5.1' and 'By the way I like your dress'. SMG'S acting is superb here. When she says 'I'm 16 years old I don't want to die' you really feel her anguish. Great enthusiastic reactions to S1, from mid season 2 onwards this show goes like a roller coaster and never stops with some amazing episodes. S3 is just out of this world, S5 is just off the charts! You will love it!
Actually, it's kinda surprising how well the special effects of S1 stand up, given their scraps budget. Not all of them, of course (that hyena doll...), but most.
@@migmit Yes very true in fairness S1 is really good, I like other people keep saying this because we know what is to come. It's a great Season in its own right.
Again Out Of Mind Out Of Sight was a brilliantly written episode, exploring how an outsider can feel when ignored, and how they can be driven to extreme actions because of this. A very sinister ending with shades of many an X-Files episode. Great indeed. Funny comedy again also with Cordelia telling the story about knocking the girl down in her car, and making it all about her.
Just to tell you now: We don't come here for Buffy. We come and we stay for the emotions and the tears and laughs and bleeding hearts of you experiencing it for the first time. 💜
Fun fact: The actress who played Harmony (Mercedes McNab) was a child star in the Addams Family movies. The girl scout that tries to sell Wednesday cookies.
Who gave Cordelia a car?!! 😂 Loved her. Slayers gonna slay! 💁🏽♀️ Loved Willow standing up for herself w/ Xander. What a season finale! Loving the journey with y’all 🙃🖤
Welcome to the Buffy Fandom family. We are so glad you decided to join is! We will laugh and cry together for the next however long. This is a journey that teaches one about oneself, and I believe; a journey worth taking. Thank you for allowing us to watch you watch something that we've already watched, but now want to watch you watch so we can remember what it was like to watch the thing we love to watch for the first time. 😊
I believe all of Season 1 was shot and completed before it started airing because Sarah Michelle Gellar was in Wilmington, North Carolina shooting ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ during a few of the episodes airdates.😊
Really looking forward to Season 2 with you guys. It's one of my favorite seasons in the entire run, so many great episodes. Season 1 is fun and all, with a lot of foundational character stuff, but Season 2 is when stuff really starts to kick off.
All the remaining seasons are 22 episodes. Over the whole run of Buffy, there are a dozen dozens of episodes: 12+(6*22)=144. Looking forward to following you on this journey!
I appreciate the commentary on the breath thing. They talk, the smoke, they can smell, which requires drawing air in through the nose, but they had to throw Xander a bone and let him play hero.
Season 1 is obviously a bit uneven, but I still think it has a nice charm about it. Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest, Angel and Prophecy Girl, are still very strong Buffy episodes too. Even after all this time .
I don't think this spoils anything but when I think about the show overall I think they treated every season as if they didn't know if they were going to have another one so by the end of each season it does feel like a bookend.
The text on the page of the Assassin book Marci is reading at the end is the lyrics to a Beatles song. This will not be the last time the Beatles get referenced in the show.
I have 13 Reactors on my Subs that I am watching Buffy through with, but you are the only ones I actually watch the whole episodes and not skip around to specific scenes. You are both just so entertaining.
The prophecy about Anointed one reads, _“the Slayer will not know him and he will lead her into Hell.”_ When the Anointed approaches Buffy, asking for help, she says, _”It’s okay. I know who you are.”_ She knew who he was, and from that instant, it should be quite clear that Buffy would win. Not only because it’s her show, but because she already broke the prophecy by knowing who the Anointed is, rendering the prophecy and its events invalid.
Absolutely love your reactions to Buffy - can't wait to watch all 7 seasons with you - its a wild ride and i cannot wait for you guys to experience it!
Oh there are definitely college courses about Buffy! And books you can purchase. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Myth, Metaphor & Morality and Why Buffy Matters: The Art of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are the two I hear the most. As far as the series doing "wrap ups", the writers were excellent at wrapping up seasons, even when they knew it would get renewed! And on top of that: if the didn't know they were getting renewed, they would sow seeds of plotlines that they could pick up later just in case. And if they did know they were getting renewed, they would leave major foreshadowing seasons ahead. LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!! I'm a little iffy about watching horror even though I love it. I'm going to HAVE to check out your other videos! Can't wait for the next season of Buffy!
As far as the lore of the slayer. They actually continue the series for several “seasons” in a graphic novel/comic format which picks up after the television show ends. They flesh out a lot more lore
When Prophecy Girl was first written they didn't know if the show would be renewed as it's rare for shows that are dropped in to fill a hole in the second half of a regular TV season. But later on they found out they had gotten season 2 greenlit so the ending was changed to allow a flow into the new season.
Don't know if you're familiar with the Moomin series of Finnish cartoons, books and tv shows by our famous Tove Jansson. She was simply a world-class story teller with an acute psychological eye for kids/youths/family issues. One of her stories was 'The Invisible Girl' where neglect made her disappear. Really good, very Buffy-themed story, like her adult-audience books and her autobiography. Also a new biopic out - and of course all The Moomins are so cleverly written, just perceptive stuff.
Season 1 was a mid season replacement which is why it's only 12 episodes they also filmed nearly all of the season finales not knowing if they would get a next season. Which really made them have to create a great story
The demon that was the 1st through the portal had three heads. It was Cerberus. P.S. Cerberus translates to Spot, or Spotted one. All the depictions of Cerberus as a Black dog are wrong, he has a mottled coat. Also, humans have been naming their dogs "Spot" for at least 3000 years.
Um... that's only one of possible etymologies. And I'm pretty sure if it was supposed to be Cerberus, they'd mention it. In any case, it didn't look like a dog, spotted or otherwise.
There’s no question or comparison - when it comes to discussing and analysing Buffy lore at a very sophisticated level, _Passion of the Nerd_ is _The_ RUclips channel to watch. He has the very best videos and analyses of any media source _ever._ I absolutely recommend you both watch his videos. You’ll joygasm to them. But not now. Wait until you finish the series, or you’ll spoil yourselves.
For the most part all the finales of this show are super awesome because almost the entire show they didn’t know when they would be cancelled. And they still manage to wrap up the series in such a good way!
From what I remember they did all the 12 episodes and didn’t know if a season 2 would happen. Kiefer sutherland said to SMG she shouldn’t worry and it'd easy to find another job.
Not Cody activating Smart Mode and Sergio getting super lost 🤣🤣 I was right there with Sergio though. Wasn't a fan of Xander getting snippy with Buffy for not returning his feelings. Screaming when the theme played during Buffy's ICONIC strut in her prom dress ready to kill is the only right response. I honestly do think there should be Buffy uni courses, if there aren't already. We have Taylor Swift uni classes. There should be Buffy classes too. Equally as iconic. There's a lot of lore to unpack.
I am happy you are moving forward with the series! All I asked when watching is this: Please remember these are teenagers. They will say and do things as teens do. The one thing I see reactors doing is forgetting that they are supposed to by like 15, 16, 17, etc.. and try to put adult mentality onto them. We have all said and done stupid stuff as teens (and even adults), and that is why I love this series. Everyone does stupid sh*t at some point, but they are teens, not 20-30 something years old. Just, as you are watching and reacting, remember that they are teens, doing and saying teen things. Don't add adult mentality to their decisions!
You two are very quickly becoming my favorite reactor duo!!! Went back and been watching some of your other reactions. LOVED BARBARIAN!!! LMAO Can't wait for this. Going in!! Buffy Season 1... check. Now we get into what makes the series one of the best of all time!!!
So glad your going to keep on with the show, I have been enjoying the rewatch with you both. Also you like the dress with the jacket, in the original movie Kristy Swanson wears it better, lol
season 2 is my personal favorite. and I also think that season 2 may well be the best of the series even though just about every season is exceptional. even the less strong seasons have episodes that set a very high bar
I’m emotional watching you guys watch the finale but I can’t wait till we continue to the other seasons prepare yourself for tears, joy, sadness and epicness
I've been enjoying your watches of this show so much! To answer a few questions yall ask in the vid: there's definitely a number of books that go deeper into lore and analysis out there. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Myth, Metaphor & Morality" by Mark Field and "Why Buffy Matters" by Rhonda Wilcox are good ones. And each season was shot as if they weren't going to be be renewed just in case, so any season finally could potentially have been the series finale as well. And the government stuff does get touched on a bit here and there, but talking too much about it might get into spoiler territory for down the road. Also I'm so glad you guys are loving Cordelia, she's one of my faves in the series too! So hype for yall getting to season 2!
There are books exploring the lore, the myth, etc - and when you've done watching (cos spoilers), I really recommend Passion of the Nerd's 'Buffy Guide' and 'Angel Guide' ongoing series of videos. And advice going forward - tissues. Have all the tissues.
It is unreal how absolutely excited. I am y’all are about to embark on this journey. But if you both aren’t blubbering idiots by midseason five, then we haven’t done our job correctly. “ if the apocalypse comes, beep me! “
Love your reactions to Buffy. Prophecy Girl is my favorite episode of season one and an indication of how great this show will get. Eagerly await your reactions to season two and the intro of a fan favorite character.
Love your enthusiasm, (aw you teared up!) you guys are gonna have so much fun with what is to come. You have no idea. As others have said, keep some tissues within reach.
"wrap up the show, which is something shows do not do well enough anymore" something they don't even try to do anymore, and we shouldn't put up with it
Oh Sergio! You are going to absolutely SOB your eyes out at this show long before the series finale.
2 words - Roller coaster!!
Multiple times... Have the tissue box handy.
The show gets so deep, it emerges on the other side of the planet.

The way the show handled Xander asking Buffy out, and her response, and Willows after, is exactly how this should be handled.
I have always loved that in the season finale, Buffy was ready to let the world burn until someone made Willow cry. That was the line evil could not cross
Prophecy Girl (the finale) is the first of Buffy's legendary episodes and, very hearteningly, nowhere near the best even for how good it is!
sarahs acting during her breakdown scene when shes yelling at giles and angel is incredible... she has some lame line deliveries in the episode overall but that scene shakes me every time

In the immortal words of Anakin Skywalker: "This is where the fun begins!" 😈
Years ago, I bought "Buffy and Existentialism" on Amazon. Good book.
It is unreal how absolutely excited. I am y’all are about to embark on this journey. But if you both aren’t blubbering idiots by midseason five, then we haven’t done our job correctly. “ if the apocalypse comes, beep me! “
And if it had ended here it would still have been a fondly remembered series, Space; Above and Beyond style.
Love your reactions to Buffy. Prophecy Girl is my favorite episode of season one and an indication of how great this show will get. Eagerly await your reactions to season two and the intro of a fan favorite character.
Yessssssssssssssssss I am so hyped for season 2 for this exact reason.
Buffy outfit really ate this episode.
I'm so glad you guys are through the previews and ready for some real shit.
Oh honeys there are books and books for Buffy
You guys are so cute! ❤ So enthusiastic for the rest of the series. Love it!
Love your enthusiasm, (aw you teared up!) you guys are gonna have so much fun with what is to come. You have no idea. As others have said, keep some tissues within reach.
I'm so excited for you, you're in for a ride!
About the Bronze...Nightclubs generally aren't open during the day. XD
My standard comment for this episode: goodbye Buffy the Gray, hello Buffy the White!
No they didn't know if they were getting renewed when they filmed it! They were even surprised they got picked up for another season.
Ooh you said 'big bad'! Guess which show was partly responsible for popularising the term (and that format)? Lol
"wrap up the show, which is something shows do not do well enough anymore"
something they don't even try to do anymore, and we shouldn't put up with it
If you watch the 1992 film the outfit Buffy is wearing is a modern updated version from the film a little Easter egg to the film.
I fully sang that entire chorus at 16:43 with you two. 😂❤
good thing my next door neighbor just moved out, so no one had to witness that. 😂😂😂
