"blood & Semen" not Bull Semen. lol
Regular semen makes it worse I feel like haha, thanks for correcting me though!!
@@lillyjanereacts lol! Yea, it definitely isn't an improvement! The blood portion is bovine.
@@lillyjanereacts I think it will be easier for you if you know what James Hetfield thinks about these covers. :)
In a 2009 interview with Classic Rock, Hetfield expressed his dislike of the album cover and its inspiration:
"Lars and Kirk were very into abstract art, pretending they were gay. I think they knew it bugged me. It was a statement around all that. I love art, but not for the sake of shocking others. I think the cover of Load was just a piss-take around all that. I just went along with the make-up and all of this crazy, stupid crap that they felt they needed to do"
Yep, artist - Andres Serrano's semen and cow's blood between two plates of glass. Reload is a Jesus statue inside of a bath full of 2 week old fermenting human urine. It is an art piece called 'Piss Christ'.
@@Defensive_WoundsIs there a Jesus statue on the cover of Reload? It looks more like just a mix of "blood and urine". And I always thought that's the title of the "art piece". Like "blood and semen" for Load.
What you heard in the solo was a talkbox. It first came into being in the 70s. It's a plastic tube that you place in your mouth that allows you to manipulate the sound of your guitar by using your vocal chords while simultaneously playing.
Peter Frampton made it famous
And if i'm not mistaken used on Livin' on a prayer by Bon Jovi
Peter Frampton did this also (Show me the way)
@@MorbidCrow666
Also on "It's my life" , was the first time I ever heard it.
You use mouth shapes to change the sound. Not your vocal chords.
A vastly underrated song and album.
One of my favorites on the album.
I can't wait until you get to "Bleeding Me"
This and "The Outlaw Torn". But Bleeding Me, for me, is top 3 Metallica songs of all time. And I'm a 43 y/o fan for 33 years....
Jack is God...
Jack being the alcohol we drank...
I live in the house that Jack built. But the house is condemned and Jack's not allowed to be here anymore
Bleeding Me is a fuck yes…makes Until It Sleeps make more sense if you’re not an alcoholic.
I am. So I think that’s why I actually enjoy Unforgiven 2.
With Low Man’s Lyric being the song I listen to when shit needs out and it’s no one’s fkn business.
That's my exception song.... I hate most of Load but there are 3 songs in my Metallica top 10. It doesn't make sense how I either hate songs from those two albums or love certain songs as much as anything. Like post 80s Iron Maiden
@@tomspring213Until it sleeps isn't about alcoholism at all. It's about cancer that Hetfield's mother had died from.
Definitely one of my favorite tracks off of this masterpiece! A lot of hidden gems later on!
James was using a device called a talk box on the lead, so his voice went with the guitar notes
Really wish they would play this song live for once..its definitely one of the best songs on the load album
Well they've played Fixxxer so we can only hope they do play this song 🤞🤞
@@bruceprophet8367 very true!!! 🤘🤘
I always thought this song is highly underrated. Of course with all the Load and Reload haters, not really surprising. I really like both albums, Load in particular, despite my preference for 80's Metallica first and foremost. I think the riffs and even the lyrics have alot more creativity and integrity than people give them credit for.
I can't wait to see your reaction to "The Outlaw Torn" the last track on the album. I think it's one of the best songs Metallica ever wrote!
Load is definitely a weird trip but you'll soon discover some amazing gems on here.
Up next is one of my favorites of this album, "Until It Sleeps" is an amazing song. This album has 3 of my favorite Metallica songs: Until It Sleeps, Bleeding Me and The Outlaw Torn. Load and Re-Load get better and better with time and the more you open your mind and take them for what they are, not what you expect them to be.
This was their transition album, establishing themselves as musicians, not just metalheads.
Amazing song. The guitar solo uses a talk box (guitar effect)
Big Metallica fan. They always discover new styles and still they are doing this. But the lyrics are good, always. And i love the Load album. Very good songs on it. The latest album 72 seasons is insane.
Bleeding me and until it sleep my favorite of this album
That guitar solo was made with a talk box. It's a tube that you hook up to a wah pedal and into your guitar, you put the tube in your mouth and you can literally talk through your guitar. Pretty neat stuff!
It's made famous by classic rock guitarist Peter Frampton.
"Bleeding Me" is the best song of this album.
I'm expecting tears when u react to Hero of the day. Great work Lilly ❤
I think you will tear up with how deep Mama Said, Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn and Low Man's Lyric are!
"Low Man's Lyric" is on "Reload" though.
I love Load (and Reload too). Honestly never understood the shade those albums got. I became a Metallica fan as a kid in the mid 90s. The first song I ever heard was Sad But True and the second was Master Of Puppets. Not long after I heard the new singles Until It Sleeps and King Nothing and loved them too. I guess I'm not a "purist" haha. I enjoy all 11 of Metallica's albums (yes, even St. Anger)
Because you have their best albums by far previously. Ride the lightning my fav
Put it this way, I’ll listen to St. Anger before I try to listen to ReLoad 🤘🏽
I’m with you Metallica with MOP got me into Metal and Rock. Never understood the hate for both albums, but I heard some fans hate them for the stupid reason that they had cut their hair lol, but I’m the same love all the albums as after the first four they all have a slightly different feel to them.
One of my favourites of theirs along side Whiskey in a jar
Awesome video! This album blew me away of how they changed their image and not quite their sound. Took me a couple listens and fell in love with this album! I had the metal image w/ long hair but had to cut it and my friends disown me! Lol. "Bleeding Me" is my favorite song. Killer video and thank you for sharing. 🎼🎸🥁👊🤘😎💕🙏😊💯
Cant wait for "Mama Said"
Underrated in my opinión. One of my favoritas in this album
Funny thing is I have this CD and don't remember this song. I haven't listened to in such a long time. Only had a few songs on it that I Iiked
Spot on with the lyric theme on alcoholism. James was struggling with it even in 1994/95 when he wrote this song and he ultimately did quit drinking briefly not long after but eventually it led to his rehab stint after he struggled again a few years later.
One of their most underrated songs, absolute banger.
Just been listening to this song yesterday. I like it's groovy riffs
One of my fav metallica songs
We drink to chase away our demons 🍺
Thats a voice box used in the guitar solo. So thats what you hear
The raw energy and passion in their performance is palpable. Btw would love to see you react on Dark by October Ends
the effect on the guitar solo was made using a Talk Box a guitar adapter where you have a lump of hose stuck in your mouth and have your guitar signal blasted down it, by making different shapes with your voice it has been used by many bands maybe Bon Jovi's It's My Life could be one of the best known examples of this device on a Hit song.
I think I need explore other people using a talkbox, I just wasn't a fan of how it was used in this song.
@@lillyjanereactsPeter Frampton used it a lot and sort of made it famous in rock music back in the day. Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith, Kickstart my Heart by Motley Crue, or Man In The Box by Alice In Chains are examples of good songs that feature this tool.
@@lillyjanereacts I think that on the contrary, this effect in the solo perfectly emphasized the theme of alcoholism and it sounds like the voices of those "demons" who are trying to drag you to the bottom.
@@SokolRock I absolutely agree with you and think that Lilly was too harsh with the guitar solo on this song. The talkbox effect perfectly emphasizes the theme of alcoholism.
@@SokolRock The voices of the demons... or is it the booze-blunted voices of the people around in the bar? It always reminded me of the adult voices from the Charlie Brown cartoons.
I love this song so much.
I dig the talk box effect. It’s trippy as and I think that’s the point
the solo thing is the talk box, its not common in metal but is really cool in my opinion!
To me this is a very emotional song that I like a lot. The lyrics are really deep about alcohol addiction and the guitars are so heavy.
You'll love "Bleeding Me" and "Outlaw Torn"
"The Cure" is another good one
It’s a talk box they use on the solo.
I can't wait for you to hear "Mama Said." Not because I think you'll love it, but because I want to see your "WTF is this?" face. But "The Outlaw Torn" is coming up pretty soon, and I am genuinely looking forward to that.
LOL once that steel guitar kicks in on that song, she's gonna be so confused and caught off guard hahahaha! It is a good song though, musically and lyrically. Just not....what she's going to expect.
The house that was built on jack will now be how this song shall be referred from now on.
Thank you Lilly ♥️ All the songs are great. The album Load a Reload is Blues Rock Metal performed by Metallica. Its Awesome 🤌🤘
This song. I hate it, but i learned it and i, love it. It is that song, wich covered me.
I love this song … I don’t know why just I love it, since 1996 I love it
To be honest it was this whole album. When I first heard it I was just craving the old stuff and didn’t really enjoy it. It took years for me to come back around to it and now it’s one of my favourites
Same here
Fuel is a banger though, I think it's off this album
@@jonathanbouthillette753 Fuel is the first track on Reload.
@@jonathanbouthillette753fuel is off reload
7:00 that instrument they are using is called a talk box if you wanted to know. It makes lots of wah sounds when you you talk into it
This album was excellent!
I actually cannot hate any of this, as different and wierd it might be, I grew up on this music and it brings me so much joy to hear this again and see your experience with it - wether you liked the song or not.
They didn't call it "Load" for no reason..lol
6:27 - LOL!!! The look of confusion!!! Love it!
This is one of the most underappreciated tracks and I'm so disappointed that it has -- as far as I know -- never been performed live. That moment in the last time through the chorus when James sings "you crawl" I've always imagined the band cutting out and letting the audience yell it. It'd be such an epic moment.
Metallica is one of those very rare bands for me where I actually like all of their songs. some of them I wont listen for years but when I do hear them its never gonna be "that one sucks". including St Anger and not including Lulu.
I’ve not heard this song in years. I remember being slightly disappointed when this album first came out, but looking back, there’s so much under-appreciated quality. Great reaction, again 👍 Also, they’re using a voice-box on the solo.
King Nothing is the highlight of this album!
I like every song on load.
Load and Reload are cool albums that aged really well
This is basically a Metallica song done in the style of Alice in Chains. It becomes more apparent when you imagine Layne and Jerry singing it.
Now it's time for Until it Sleeps - the best track!
Every time it comes to covers for Load/Reload, I am surprised by the excessive sensitivity of this generation. When I found out about how they were made, I thought it was hilarious. :)
I've heard that the "Jack" in the song title refers to Jack Daniels. That put the whole of what the song is about into perspective for me. It's about alcohol addiction. "The house that Jack built" = this false hiding place and refuge created by drink, described as a metaphorical "house". However, once he's stepped into that house and "the show begins", that's when the song goes all weird, creepy and unsettling, reflecting it's true nature where it clouds your mind and your judgment and you can't be sure of what's real and what isn't: does it solve the problem or make it worse. "The higher you are, the farther you fall" is a warning, saying that, the more you partake, the more and more it "swallows" you in deeper, the harder it gets to break free from its hold. It can apply to any drug addiction. It's a true gem of talented songwriting and execution. One of my favorite Metallica songs.
The sense that I get from that solo is not some kind of demon, but the claustrophobic feeling of drowning, like drowning in the bottle that promised relief.
One of the coolest songs Metallica ever made. It’s such an original, the talk box guitar solo, James vocals, Lars’ experimental drumming. The guitar solo is a mix of Kirks blues roots and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains.
You nailed the lyric analysis. It’s about James’ and (mainly) Kirk’s addiction to alcohol.
And now there are songs like Until It Sleeps, King Nothing, Hero Of A Day and Bleeding Me in a row. All the best. And then there is ONE, the last ONE - The outlaw torn. The best song Metallica has ever written. And that comes from a die hard fan from the 80´.
Awesome video
Hi
Load and reload are both two incredible albums. Never really got why so many fans hated them.
I'm waiting for the 'Mama Said' and 'The Outlaw Torn' reaction.
Great song, it is too bad they never played it live . Great reaction btw 😅
Love this tune!
You should listen to spineshank synthetic
As far as what you said avout james sturggeling with alcohal metallica was known as alcholica back in the day a common reference was alcholica drank em all
The Outlaw Torn
That all album is very moody, and dark . But the gems in this album take me back to my teen days. I bought those two albums and like load much more .
How do you not know what a talkbox is!? Joe Walsh, Rocky Mountain Way - Bon Jovi - Aerosmith - Motley Crue
🌹🌹🌹
Check out reload fuel and the song after it I can't remember the name right off hand
The House Jack Daniels built
The talk box solo threw me off as well, but that didn't last long and it was just like....cool...ok...different.
The higher you are the further you fall. Think about it.
Thanks RUclips for ❤️LILLY ❤️ y METALLICA 🙏🔥🤘
First of all your opinion does matter because you are awesome at dissecting a song and telling us what it’s about. Second the woah sounds are a talkbox. Also I believe every solo on this album is preformed by James. My answer to your question would have to be the entire st anger album. I have a question for you now. I noticed you edited the video on when you explain things to us? Why do you do that if you don’t mind me asking because you are literally the best person of your kind on RUclips and one of the few I can listen to go on and on about a topic. Anyways thank you Lily!!!
No, every guitar solo on this album isn't performed by James. James and Kirk shared duties with the guitar solos on this album.
@@TokusatsuGamingfan oh ok. Thank you man!!
This is probably a great song to me. I loved these albums...
After 5 studio albums and a bunch of covers I think when these albums dropped I was burnt out on fluid metals...,Metallica, Slayer, megadeth, Pantera... it was all starting to sound bland and similar to me. These albums offered the same old great Metallica name but a different sound... I already started looking towards new sounds like Korn and rage against the machine... this for some reason fit the bill for me. I was a big fan of these.
Can’t wait for until it sleeps
Load is quite an under appreciated album. Songs like The house Jack built have a twangy rustic vibe and great to listen to while driving. 😎
Yeah... If I recall correctly James was pissed when he found out what the album cover was.
Hey its me. The guy always asking for more Slayer. This time I'm not though, even though I do think that would be FANTASTIC. Please react to "11th hour" by lamb of god. It's a song about alcohol addiction and it has helped me through a few dark spots in my life
Always loved this song. I always felt there's a bit of Alice In Chains in it.
This song sounds like an Alice In Chains song
Jack is Jack Daniel's.
Probably. But the title is actually the title of a nursery rhyme. The house that Jack (alcohol) built here is destined to fall apart. The body as a temple isn't strong enough, it becomes a house that Jack built so fragile that it's about to collapse. It's Jack, the demon (alcohol), who takes over Hetfield's body.
9:53 JUMPSCARE ALERT VERY SCARY 😢😢😢😢
Idk that demon scared tf outa me
OK ive seen you have not yet done anything by Stevie Ray Vaughan may I suggest Texas Flood live from Elmocambo be prepared for some awesome guitar playing
First😎
I feel that we can go way deeper on this track. The origional childrens story translated into Tallica 16 yeara ago. In my opinion was about world politics.
Great reaction Lilly! I always like this song, from the “new” Metallica. Anytime I listen to this album I start with this song. Never cared for the first two tracks.🤘🏻👍🏻
Yeah you got to take a listen to the other CD of Metallica Reloaded
...and now the album really takes off
Metallica,drinking,no,it could never happen.😏😏😏
The outlaw torn
You all most got it, watch the video again 4:33 then you get it. The house that Jack build, its not at thing its a mind set the mindset you need to do the right thing. To rebuild what is broken, to givet one last chance. I if you dont belive me then ask the drummer of Metalica Lars Ulrik. Ask him. "hvad skal der til for at gøre den rigtige ting hvordan går man fra at spille tennis til at være pulsen i metalica". use google translate if you cant speak danish
My body my temple, this tempel is tilt, yes this is the house Jack build. thr higher you are thefarther you fall, the longer you walk, the father you crawl
To the uninitiated, the house jack built is short for the house Jack Daniel's built, which kind of explains the guitar tones
People pissed and moaned about this album..... this is one of my favorites, and I've been here since the 80s. Also, just based off the line about shaking during initial intake and let the show begin are clear enough without the jack reference.
Sadly i know exactly what he means..... there was a time i drank enough to kill the average person daily, which included intake of up to 3/4s of the big jug of jager solo inside of 45 minutes, and a night that included a jug of yukon jack and captain Morgan tattoo completely emptied between 3 people inside of 2 hours. My buddy and i couldn't function properly till the liquor store open. It seemed like self mediating at the time but after numerous near death experiences and personal growth, if you're one that makes it through, you start to realize how terrible it is...... thankfully at this point, the most i do is the rare few drinks. Also I'm thankful to see James healthy and putting on strong performances.
What you heard was Kirk playing through a talk box in his mouth
My WTF was that? metallica song I've learned to love is The Day that Never Comes.
