    Nice that you actually showed the trail heads and pressure. 95% of vids only show the good when what happened to you guys is reality for 90% of us. With all the people it’s more about being in right place right time and hopefully something gets pushed to ya

      Thanks Travis! Yep one tactic we’ll definitely use in the future is to let pressure work to our advantage. Thanks for watching!

    Im a GA boy and I've hunted Colorado 3 times and killed 2 elk. Let me tell you its not for the faint of heart. This old Marine had to dig deep and take my mind to one of those crazy places to get it done. You can literally dog your body completely out and cover dozens of miles per day (and we did) and not see a thing. So much of it is mental fortitude.

    Yeah, CO is tough and certainly can be deflating. That's the value of having a few good hunting buddies. It helps keep moral high. I hunt by myself more than 90% of the time and when it's that tough, I just think, it's still better than working. 😁

      Having company turns out to be way more valuable with age! I've used to love hunting alone but just got back from an alone trip the MT and it kinda sucked. At 68 years old, it's way harder to get my ass out of the sack at 5:00am and get going alone. Plus, I was pushing a bear around my mountain side - spose the elk smelled him too and they were long gone. I'm beginning to think it's either a young man's sport or I just need someone to keep pushing me!

    Good video guys and enjoyed it! Colorado is tough no doubt but your hard work almost paid off! Been hunting here for the last 28 years and guiding for 13 years. Every time I get thinking I have things figured out, I get humbled again including this last season! But, that's why we love it so much!

    Something about the 9 shots fired at a bull just feet off the road doesn't sit well with me. I don't know...maybe it's just me. Anyway, loved watching this series. Was very similar to the way my 2nd rifle OTC hunt went last season. Successful or not, it's always a learning experience. Looking forward to more content and keep up the good work!

    To bad Colorado has to depend on non residents to support the needs of the conservation dept. out there ! license fees $750 plus now you have to purchase a small game license another $85 ? All this when a resident pays $30 ? When I asked they explain that they have all these animals moose (tag $2300) resident $313, sheep (draw don't ask), elk($688) resident $57, deer/pronghorn ($413) resident $42. Understandable as all states charge more for non residents but having residents pay only a 1/10th to support their own state makes no sense but people pay like myself to drive from New York to Colorado to hunt elk which can be up to a $3-4 thousand dollar expense to deal with all the pressure of so many hunters out there ?

    • @whatstheproblem6606
      @whatstheproblem6606 2 года назад

      Yeah New Mexico same, had to buy a 4$ stamp just to access national forest land, nonresident license 600$, couple grand for tag, not to mention gas and food , seen more wild mustangs than elk

    • @tslik5155
      @tslik5155 2 года назад

      It sounds great to me! I've been hunting MT for 25 years, own a parcel on top of a ridge line at 8,000 ft. MT redid their whole draw system and now the non-res tags are over $1,100 - a absolute total ripoff! Just sold my land and thinking I might need to switch to CO - way more affordable.

      "New York to Colorado to hunt elk"
      I read this with some sad violin music playing in the background about how bad that must be for you. *No one* likes transient hunters except guides.

    • @harkenm
      @harkenm 2 года назад +2

      Pretty sure you don’t have to buy a small game license. You should consider yourself lucky you have the opportunity to hunt elk OTC at all. $700 isn’t very much for the opportunity to gather a year’s worth of meat. If you want resident prices, move west and pay state taxes to fund wildlife management.

    • @coloRADo_outdoors
      @coloRADo_outdoors 2 года назад +4

      Totally agree! It’s sucks here. You should just stay home and hunt all that public land you don’t have in NY.

  • @Captn_Cor

    I don’t see how this would be fun or sustainable, my observation is hunting has become “trendy” with all the apps, accessories.. almost like a brand. “ yeah, I Elk hunt..”

  • @jonathanpope145

    I completely recognize what unit they're hunting. I've hunted this unit the last few years and it's gotten worse. Seems like every RUclips hunter ends up there and tells their friends to come and bring their friends. The unit is now overrun with hunters and much fewer elk. Don't tell people where you hunt and don't show horizons in your video. The mountain ranges are recognizable so you're telling everyone where you went hunting.
