Growing up my aunt and uncle owned a print shop immediately next door to the brewery, sadly I never got to see the switching operation. I think if I did I would have gone into spasms of delight!
You should ask the brewery if they would let you film from the dock while the cars are being shoved through the building and on out to where they are emptied. Would be a different perspective showing how tight the space is. (I've delivered specialty malt via pneumatic, NOT fun backing a truck around that curve.)
Nothing like having your Freight delivered to your door via rail even if it has to go down the street. Sounds like the temperatures and wind Chill are about what we had today in Milwaukee. Plus the fact we're short already a foot on snowfall it shows three single digit days coming up starting Sunday. It is funny that even when it is this cold a cold beer still tastes good
Hi from York, England! I always enjoy watching that switching move on your videos. Did the conductor re-set the switch after the locomotive had left, and go back in the Hi-Rail?
I worked for a company that owned a rayon plant in Utica (Beaunit Corporation which bought Skenandoa Rayon Corp.). It received coal and some raw materials by rail, and shipped out some yarn and sodium sulfite by rail. I wonder if it were served by this line or by a different line.
That would have been a different line, the old West Shore, part of the former New York Central System (later Penn Central then Conrail before abandonment in the 1980s)
Awesome views! Thanks so much for sharing! Air quality must be poor in that building when Locomotive is inside! Haven’t you shared video with CSX engines here?
The switch is built from a design made in 1938 for street railways. It was built in 1988 for the last big track replacement project on Schuyler Streeet. The New York State DOT supervising engineer for that project told me the history of the switch.
Are they gonna run trains from Utica to Binghamton again or is the line still washed out? Thought I heard they were gonna fix the washout again. Can anyone enlighten me on this?
You won't find Utica Club, true, but the F.X. Matt Brewery contract brews for a large number of brands across the Eastern Seaboard--companies either desiring wider distribution than they alone can make, or brands too popular to brew completely on site. Matt does not openly disclose its contractees by agreement, but some brands make no secret of their brewing there. Among the brands that have brewed there are Pete's Wicked Ale, Brooklyn Brewery, Flying Dog (once a Colorado and then a Maryland brewery, now owned by Matt), Blue Moon, and even Guinness. They also have a popular line of craft non-alcoholic Saranac sodas, which may be wider-selling than the beers (Cracker Barrel, delis, etc.)
FX Matt Brewing Company 811 Edward St, Utica, NY 13502 United States I tried looking for actual GPS coordinates but couldn’t find that function on the maps!
I will gladly pay $100 to get an inside shot of what it looks like of the train locomotive from inside coming in to drop off the cars-- that would be such a fantastic perspective then just from outside-- but of course I know you would need permission and blah blah blah I'm just saying I'll give you a hundred bucks to do it. Lol!

This switching move is probably my favorite of all I see on RUclips. It’s just such a unique building and the street running is such fun to watch.
I never tire of it.
Same!
Street running and going into the brewery. It is one of the best if not the best moves by a railroad. Thank you for getting it.
Always loved the Utica Club ad way back ..
Scultz and Dooley !!
I wish they would let you in to film just one time! Thanks for sharing this with us!!! 🙏
The channel owner already has, 5 years ago.
@@JohnWilson-wg4gkMaybe someone can post a link to that video! 🤷♂️
Excellent coverage of the grain hopper delivery... That was cool driving into the building !!
Chilled beer I imagine. Thank you for making and sharing this video, greetings from the middle of England😉🙃

Pint of Guinness please!
Great work. Thanks from Miami
Another great street running rail video. Thanks RR.
I just love when they switch this brewery. I actually had a beer from them here in Sweden the other week. Thanks for sharing.
Very good. Watching from AZ. Thank you
A different "cold brew" with Susie-Q! How you catch this stuff without losing limbs from frostbite is beyond me, but: respect.
Beautiful video ! Love Utica and the history of Utica NY. I love the Susquehanna ❤🎉

I’ve seen a truck being backed up there before and was surprised it could be done!
Really rare scene! Great video.
Great video from Okeechobee Florida.
Hey rail rambler always cool watching UT 1 switching.
I have the n scale 3040. I hope to add the brewery to my layout.

Such a cool switching video.
I don't know what it is, but I really like these odd spurs that go strange places.
Interesting video.

The guys in the hi-rail re-set both the switch & derail. The conductor was in the engine when it exited the brewery
@@railroadingrambler218 Thanks, I thought there'd be an explanation!

They occasionally have a CSX leased engine.
Would be nice to know what the trackage in the building loos like!
Very cool
What is with the door above the big door?
It’s a wonder the switch still works after all the years since being installed.

Love to try one of their beers but you can't find that brand in the midwest.

👍👍
Is that a mechanical bell or electronic one on the engine?
Hey they didn't stop when leaving the plant to re-align the switch?
The guys in the hi-rail took care of that

As they make that left turn to come into the brewery, where's the switch lever?
It’s in the middle of the street
Under a steel cover, in the roadway.
@ thanks!
And, they left and didn't bother to throw the switch to align with mainline...?
