I think one of the interesting things was the whole 530e effectively replacing the 520i at that sub 360k or so price point. It’s actually pretty good value assuming you have some reasonable charge level. Arguably I agree, the 300 HP engine in the Volvo is more than sufficient, you don’t fall into that spot where when the battery boost is empty, I personally would have the 5 as the better drive. But one thing for sure, I would actually still buy the 530i. As much as the 530e is pretty good value, it still misses out some critical features (full adaptive LED with active high beam, something that the old 520i had) and sadly, without M Sport, it looks kinda pedestrian.
Kon, is there an option in 530E where we can shut down the electric motor all together while in motion? Secondly there is not much information given to the consumer about the battery. What the consumer been told is that it is very expensive if the battery damaged. But no information was given to customer on under what circumstances it will damaged or how can we preserve the battery to alive longer.
I’m curious. Why couldn’t they just give customers the choice to spec the car according to their own likings? Just how they do in Europe? As BMW fans, enthusiasts or buyers, people choose to go for the PHEV doesn’t mean they don’t like M sport equipment.
This is a matter of paperwork, thanks to our customs. Everytime you order a car with different feature and specification, BMW assigns a different model code to the vehicle. According to customs procedure, different model code, documentations for duty calculations all have to resubmit. It's the same for all brands, which is why most manufacturers will pre-select the equipment package for the Malaysian market.
I think the product positioning is meant to take full advantage of the phev tax exemptions...if they spec down the 530i I don’t think bmw can bring down the price much
To drive, I prefer the 530e la, no question. But have to point out that the E 350e (now that it's discontinued) is much better-appointed. Also, I prefer Mercedes' rear-mounted charging port location. Suits my style of reverse parking my cars at home.
I'm fine with the overall spec for the 530e. But what disappoint me is the change of the headlight. Functionally I know it work more or less the same but the outlook of that Full Adaptive LED headlight is what makes the G30 stands out IMHO.
Exactly, BMW has learnt from our government to provide something less than we paid for it.. Rip uf off broad daylight. !st is 530e then new X3. I do hope they launch X3 M40i with higher spec.
The S90 T8 is the better overall package. The BMW does have sharper and more engaging handling. The 530e appeals to people like me, but for most people, the S90 is a more convincing preposition.
Come to think of it, do you actually need all those power on your daily use?squeezing more power from an engine that has the same capacity means more stress = wear out faster, but one can always argue that he doesn’t care.. just my 2 cents 😉
A very valid point, actually. Given the choice between two engines of different power and similar capacity, I won't mind choosing the one with lower output per capacity.
Actually, I think BMW should not have made the regular LED and Adaptive LED headlights look too different. Mercedes, I think, gets away with offering non-adaptive headlights in some cars too, but nobody makes a fuss, because they barely look different from the higher grade ones seen in catalogs.
That’s like saying buying an expensive phone without water resistant feature, where you won’t know when this feature will be useful in the future. I’ve seen someone posted on Instagram story regarding his newly bought 530e and showing the auto boot lift with leg detection as “high tech”. This means that the sales man told him that this car has auto leg detection boot lift and he is sold for this feature? I will not be surprised if he don’t know what is adaptive cruise control. For me, such feature is a deal breaker in the case of this car, in my book, it’s just outdated and tin kosong. Don’t be fooled by the badge, you will be surprised that any car with rear wheel drive will drive as well (not saying 530e is lacking in this department).
Seriously I dont understand BMW and MBM offering strip down model to Malaysians. how could 530e did not come with Adaptive headlights while in Singapore it is standard? I understand 530e is market as entry level, but c'mon BMW... How much does it cost to offer Adaptive headlights? Even BMW X3 is the same stories, while other market getting full Adaptive Headlights we are having only LED.. Please BMW. For your upcoming models, please offer higher spec cars..
What a detailed and rich review, thank you so much 👍
I live in Denmark and have ordered the 530d.
Great choice! They don't offer the 530d here, but I tried it during the international media drive. Lovely engine and car.
U Malaysian or Danish? How much is ur 530d in Denmark?
Up north in Thailand, the 530e is the top model in the lineup just like how you said it should be.
No thanks, i would rather 530i to be on top. Thai tax is so exp. 530i in Thailand i can buy 540i in Malaysia.

I actually won't mind a 520i at the 530e's current price and equipment.
Likewise, at least I won’t have to deal with the potential long term concerns of the PHEV drivetrain
Your dream had been realized kon!!:)

New to your channel, but that is a very informative video, thanks
Thanks for watching!

Hi kon do you know the BMW i Wallbox price?
Would love to see your review on the Passat 2.0.
There is a video in Carlist's channel of me reviewing the Passat with Roda Pusing

Bro, today u got visit a friend in Benta, Pahang and makan2 there?
Nope, wasn't me. Could be another reviewer.

You are right, but it's not so much about speccing the 530i down, but rather to load up the 530e.
In the "Also watch:" section in the description, both "Launch walkaround" and "Bobby's review" has the same video link
aiks!! fixing!!
Hi Kon !
530e or the e350e ? Which one do you prefer ? Thanks and good luck with your future reviews !
To drive, I prefer the 530e la, no question. But have to point out that the E 350e (now that it's discontinued) is much better-appointed. Also, I prefer Mercedes' rear-mounted charging port location. Suits my style of reverse parking my cars at home.

Would be a great competitor to the GLC 43!
Yes, tested out the X3 during their launch. Not really amazing package. It wouldn't be a BMW take makes you turn your head and have a second look.
Hi Kon! Awesome review..
So would u say this one, or topup a few hundred bucks a month n settle for the S90 T8?
The S90 T8 is the better overall package. The BMW does have sharper and more engaging handling. The 530e appeals to people like me, but for most people, the S90 is a more convincing preposition.

Bro, just want to ask your opinion. Which is worth to buy: BMW 530E Sport or E200 Avantgarde. Both also priced around RM310K to RM315K.
If the 530e doesn’t charged everyday? The car just works like a normal car?
It does. You just dont reap the car's full fuel economy potential.
Oh ok 👌🏿
13:23 would have been better if the ceiling was black too I think.
Interior design like 7 Series. This car is beautiful but laser light 😆
530e no laser light oh.
Kon Wai Luen ehh.. Head light is it? I'm confuse head light or laser light..
Regular head light. Laser light only in the i8 and 7 Series.
You almost look like you are flying in this car :D
Lol.. which part?
ruclips.net/video/_kAt446wMfg/видео.html.I think they did a good job with the suspensions.
Not everyone likes the thought of charging your car after each drive which can be multiple times a day..
BMW LEDs are too "high" and from far it looks like high beam (e.g. X5, 3 series)
Peter hell yeah. Very annoying. I hope jpj will saman bmw for this
the worst is those 2 models (facelift 3 and X5).
Agreed! Especially the X5!
Oh yes, the X5.
Malaysians: BMW should give us the best Adaptive LEDs!!!!
Malaysians: What the fuck? One bulb costs rm1000? My halogen Vios bulb only RM10 each.
Actually, I think BMW should not have made the regular LED and Adaptive LED headlights look too different. Mercedes, I think, gets away with offering non-adaptive headlights in some cars too, but nobody makes a fuss, because they barely look different from the higher grade ones seen in catalogs.
If I am at the right age and have the rite amt of dough,I won’t even bothered with this model! 530i is the model to go! M sport > all!
I'm too young for M Sport trim. These days find the regular trim cars more appealing
Kon Wai Luen lol...you are a young man! This electric car is for uncle la!
Hahaha.. I'm happy to go regular ICE, but perhaps a non M-Sport trim to not get too much attention. lol
No adaptive cruise control for this 530e? Unacceptable for me. Even for a user that doesn’t use it, still, unacceptable.
Ermm... if you don't use it, why want it?

Hahaha... funny thing is the F30 318i gets high spec headlights.
Kon Wai Luen end of life cycle! Lelong to clear stock ma!
All ckd BMW saloon don't have fold down rear seat which is unacceptable! That's why I bought Jaguar instead of BMW
Wah sey.... which Jaguar?
New Brand or Used?
