  • In this video I make the driving shaft I will use to build a homemade disc sander. After the problems I had making the disc for the disc sander in my last video, now I decided I should make a shaft with bearings, so it will be easier to rectify the disc and to protect the drill from vibrations.
    Watch here my problems trying to rectify a disc connected directly to the drill chuck: • Problems trying to mak...

    That looks like a suitable arrangement for many other kinds of DIY woodworking powertools such as a lathe, belt sander, or small circular saw. You managed to find just the right collection of pipes, threaded rod, washers and bearings to fit perfectly; well done!! Now you'll inspire hundreds of people to hunt in hardware shops and second-hand dealers to get similar pieces.

    Thank you for sharing. I was going to purchase an electric motor (£100) to use in making my own disc sander, then I saw your videos. Now I intend to use an electric drill instead.

    very cool idea and nicely done, u can do the same only make the mount for the bearing with wood on your drill press, a forstner bit or a holesaw( for a layered mount) will give u a pretty perallel holes for the bearings

      u could of also cut the pipes on your jigsaw table with a fence maybe more precisely, how did it turn out?

    Good informative video. Thanks for sharing.
    It appears to me, that the threaded rod is not totally straight. It seems to have a slight bow which causes the wobble.
    Maybe it's only on the video and not in reality. But it's easy to check it out.

    you can reduce the wooble ich you make the distance of the bearings as long as 1/2 of the circle
    diameter. think of it as terms of leverage, You are pressing with ~ 12cm againgst a 2cm Lever which is not good. Another method for improvement is you can add 1 bearing at each side on the outer corner of
    the circle. (on the back side , so when you press against the disc from the front, the bearing on the back supports the rotating disc)

    @roclo9927 7 лет назад

    well done Bravo i liked it this video But i would suggest that you use your vise or clamps to press your bearing never use a hammer because that is the sort of thing that damages bearings and introduces wobbles or knocks in bearings

      algo similar yo pense, al ver que se golpeaba con martillo, pero mi preocupacion estaba mas en que se produzca danhos a la rosca o a la punta del perno, no pense en el cojinete.
      Para no danhar la rosca, normalmente uso una madera como amortiguador, o un metal blando como el bronce, o bien un martillo de goma.

    Cool and after you scored the second subset they did not fall apart? As far as I know, when the clips are banned, they try to hit the edge of the padhinnik clip in order not to destroy it with hammer blows

  • @andrewtongue7084

    Very simple project, Sergio - I like it; the "wobble" you speak of, is a result of tapping the bearings onto the silvered pipe - it has made a slight shift in the bearings, themselves, even tho' the bearing is encased (they don't like lateral impact). My only suggestion might be that you press the bearing by using a vice, gradually tightening same. Excellent presentation - thank you, Andrew :D

    Could it be that the slight wobble is caused by the ends of the copper pipe not being quite square? Tightening the nuts would then cause the threaded rod to slightly bend.
