Thank you for the video. I sprayed a layer of flexible rubber seal (flex seal) onto the surface of my discs that make up the body of the drum sander. It really improved the longevity of my drum. I need to use your ideas to upgrade my diy drum sander again and bring it to an even more functional level! Thank you again
When using threaded rod for a project like this, I usually choose a bit one size smaller than the rod. Then you can screw the wooden discs onto the rod, which gives a little more secure hold than the epoxy alone. Well done.
I made mine with velcro, but it takes a lot of time to make one and sometimes it catches some wood, destroys my project and the sandpaper and velcro. I think I'll try your method which looks good and will sand straight and clean. thanks for this video
I have followed your channel for a couple of years, but just found this today. I love it, but I didn't have hole saws. I just ordered a set to make your drum sander! I have two 1/4" (6mm) ID bearings, and I agree with @ShiftySquirrel, the bearing is genius!
okay.. you have sticked the sandpaper to the cylinder that you made.. once the sandpaper is finished.. would you be able to peal off or will you stck another sandpaper piece on top the existing one?
Thank you sir, this is a very good and detailed video, in fact I'm going to say one of the greatest free step by step instructional video's I've seen on you tube, these other little self centered jerks can not even talk or even give detailed instructions only play the noise in the back ground they call music ! but You on the other hand give a best video with voice instructions Thank You Johnny b.
You do a great job explaining each step and I do like the tapping the bolts down also but next time you have to tap the opposite direction, screw a nut on until bolt is flush with bolt end. This will allow safe strike on bolt without endangering the bolt threads.
Excellent video! Clear instructions and very good result. I like that you kept in the small mistakes so that people don't make the same mistakes if copying the design. I've subscribed to your channel. Thanks from London England 👍😎🏴🙏
I love the "precision carpentry" comment. Nice video. I've tried to do drum sanding on my press, and i found it not very effective - but your build with the bearing is much better than what i did.
Sergio Acuña Padin Great job friend, I am going to use this exact idea. Thank you, it meets my need perfectly.....fortunately I bought a pack of 10 bearings last year when my daughters scooter needed new ones, so I have eight spare, I will be able to make various grit drums as you suggested.
Very ingenious and creative. If you are doing the videos by yourself without a camera person then you are doing great, I wish mine looked as good. Keep broadcasting!!
Great video, these work great. My suggestion: install nuts onto all-threads or bolts BEFORE cutting, filing, of hitting the threads w/a hammer ... then file, then remove the nut to re-shape the threads. I made large versions of these for my wood lathe (save $ & shop space). Love your videos.
Good work, Sergio! I made one from palletwood, two years ago. The same way, but much more easier, without bearing and without glueing the paper. Only fixed with a little dowel in a hole. Works perfectly in an old Drillmachine. But bearings are absolutly neccesary in my new one to safe it from damages. Merry Christmas!
after the paper wears out, how hard is it to remove , and will there be lumps from the glue when you reapply glue the second and third time? Good job though.
Andy Piszcz Use a heat gun to soften the adhesive. Peel of old sandpaper. Once removed you can scrape off or resurface the wooden spindle with light sanding using high grit sandpaper about 200 grit and then glue new piece of sandpaper again onto spindle
Thank you for a most EXCELLENT and informative video! The video showed everything so clearly and your explanation was very detailed and understandable. I am certainly going to make a couple of these. I'm so glad I found this video and I'll be checking out your others.
I make some toys and use the same way to make wheels for cars. The difference I made a drum sander is that I use dowels. Up to 1 1/2 inches thick. and maybe the same length (maybe 2 1/2 inches long or 3')as yours. I drill a hole in the middle of the dowel and insert a 1/4 dowel instead of a rod. And works perfecrly.
Perfect. Thanks a lot. I'm getting the self locking nuts, the washers and the bearing today. I have the plywood, threaded rod, glues, sandpapers and of course the drill press.
Sergio, very clever solution to any device requiring side pressure on the drill-press shaft... wire wheel, horizontal blade, etc.. I like your videos, perfect level of detail and well produced... subscribed!
Precision carpentry!! I have a similar, cheap drill press. You can change the belts to make it run slower; it will work better with the hole saw in that way.
Very nice drill press sander jig Sergio! The most common problem with the torque of your drill press could be a worn out driving belt. You could place an Optibelt driving belt and if the pulleys feel greasy, you have to clean them.
Bravo pour ton anglais il n est pas parfait, mais très facile à comprendre Tu es un excellent professeur J ai fabriquė ta sableuse et cela fonctionne très bien
A suggestion for dust collection is that you use 3 plates , for your baseplate. The middle one can form an air valve for vacuum. so the suction appears on the bottom of the sanding drum
Well done, thas was my 2nd video from you today, best educational coffee breaks in a long time. I never thought about the idea of ball bearings, as they help protecting the drill press chuck from too much pressure against it. Now I just have to source some bearings and make a couple of drum sanders. The very effective way to straighten up the drum with the wooden strip and sandpaper is another thing I will incorporate into my drum building. :)
Nice build and woodworking skills! However, for those who live in the states: Harbor Freight's Warrior 20 piece sanding drum kit for $7.99 + Sales Tax. 4 different size drums and an assortment of sanding sleeves made for use in drills, drill presses and the smallest shank drum also works in my rotary tools. Additional sanding sleeves are also available from H.F.!
I didn't notice any problems with the lighting or focus. The picture was plenty clear to me. Thanks for the great idea!
Thanks for this very clearly explained video. I've been wondering how I could make better use of my drill press!
This sander works very well :)
Well, the final sanding on that curved piece is really high precision carpentry to me! Cheers!!!
Excellent video and project. Your English is not "terrible". It is very good. Well done Sergio.
John Pen
A very clear instruction. I will be making some of these and especially like the lower bearing design. Thank you for sharing 👍😎🇦🇺
Why i like his videos? Cause he works with unexpensive or cheap tools and maschines like i do. And: It works also!
Hahahaha, thank you very much. I love using my homemade woodworking tools :D
Excellent. Thank you so much for your time and great ideas..... I was just about to purchase a spindle sander...... this helps a lot.
Thank you for the video. I sprayed a layer of flexible rubber seal (flex seal) onto the surface of my discs that make up the body of the drum sander. It really improved the longevity of my drum. It is quite interesting that of using a flexible rubber seal :)
Excellent idea, very nice video! Thank you!👍
Excellent video... and great sense of dry humour from time to time ... loved it ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
When using threaded rod for a project like this, I usually choose a bit one size smaller than the rod. Then you can screw the wooden discs onto the rod, which gives a little more secure hold than the epoxy alone. Well done.
Thank you. And thanks for the tip :D
Thank you. Enjoyed your ingenuity and your humor. I am not as far along in my skills as you are.
I like the idea. I have been thinking about making one like this but had not thought about the bottom bearing ... A brilliant idea.
Great design and using tools lots of people can afford. Good job.
Ingenious and resourceful solution using material that is easy to find. Amazing!
I really like your "precision" carpentry!!!😄😄
Tappy....tap....tap !!! Lol !
Excellent, très utile 👍👍 Norbert (France)
I made mine with velcro, but it takes a lot of time to make one and sometimes it catches some wood, destroys my project and the sandpaper and velcro. I think I'll try your method which looks good and will sand straight and clean. thanks for this video
Rah, I love your vid, and your english, for me a French Guy I understand completly when you speak english.. Many Thank
Thank you very much. I know my English is not the best, but it is great that most people can understand what I say in my videos 😃
@@WoodworkingwithDIYtools Yes, don't change everything.. Bravo pour votre travail.

The precision carpentry joke made me like and subscribe. Great diy sander
Liked the way you explained your steps and it’s very well presented and very useful video
Thank you very much 😃

Very nice and clearly explained. Thank you.
Thank you very much. I also made a dust collector system that works with this drill press drum sander 😀
Wow, that was way more than I was expecting. Really nicely done.
This sander had support and the plate was not large. So! It work well for you. Good job.
Thank you very much John. I think it is important to tell all I am making in the video :D
You do a great job explaining each step and I do like the tapping the bolts down also but next time you have to tap the opposite direction, screw a nut on until bolt is flush with bolt end. This will allow safe strike on bolt without endangering the bolt threads.
That's a great project - particularly utilising roller bearings to keep the spindle true - simple, yet impressive :D
Thank you very much Andrew. A lot of people like this drill press drum sander 😃😃😃
You are most welcome - it's an excellent design !! :D
This is awesome, thanks for making the video!
Excellent video! Clear instructions and very good result. I like that you kept in the small mistakes so that people don't make the same mistakes if copying the design.
I've subscribed to your channel.
Thanks from London England 👍😎🏴🙏
That was very good and has given an idea to make some for myself
Thank you. As you can see drum sanders are quite easy to make :)
Beautiful job, well done!
Thank You I will do exactly the same for my workshop..!
I love the "precision carpentry" comment. Nice video. I've tried to do drum sanding on my press, and i found it not very effective - but your build with the bearing is much better than what i did.

Justavian

Thank you very much. I know your trick, but I always forget to put the nut before I cut the threaded rod 😩
You are the best. I liked your funny comment. Thanks for sharing your talents.
how do you remove the sandpaper from the drum when it is worn? I can only think of a heat gun to soften the adhesive.
Para cambiar la lija se despega bien?
Very good vidio so I like your voice thank you

So will the adhesive be difficult to unwrap used paper when needed to change?
I had no problems when changing the sandpaper. It stuck a little to the wood, but it came off well.
qual é a numeração desse rolamento e qual é a barra roscada é de quantos mm
Sergio when cutting threaded rod leave 1 or 2 nuts on either side of your cut. Easy way to clean up the threads. Always enjoy your video's.
Great tip!
Nice project. I intend to make one these. But when do find the bearings?
I find them in one of those shops that sell small parts for cars

Great idea....only problem is that the radiii I need to sand are only 4/5mm 😲
A very nice project. It's not expensive and without the dust, it's perfect. Happy christmas!
Great video. Thanks.
This was very informative, thank you for sharing.
Well done!

Great project Sergio, thank you.
Very good ideas here. Thanks for taking the time to explain everything and for the added humor.
Hi, especially like the sandpaper gluing "system"
Realy easy to use next, when current goes useless :)

Should u mount the press to a table first?

Merci beaucoup Adrien :D
Cepillo moldiurero no pues yo le puse cepillo moldurero pero qué es lo que tengo que apoyar para que salga
Very nicely done. You just saved me from buying a drum sander! Thanks!
How do you change the sand paper on the drum? Make a new drum?
Another great video! I made something similar and used it on my lathe, it did what I wanted, a quick fix at the time.
Absolute genus and so easy .Thank you.
Very nice job ,i also suggest velcro glued to ply wood so u can change sand paper😃
Boa noite meu amigo, que trabalho maravilhoso amo marcenaria.....PARABÉNS ACABEI DE ME INSCREVER NO SEU CANAL.....

Making a dust collector is a good idea, fine wood dust and pva makes great wood filler, it hides mistakes well!!lol!. Great work matey. All the best.
A suggestion for dust collection is that you use 3 plates , for your baseplate. The middle one can form an air valve for vacuum. so the suction appears on the bottom of the sanding drum
I already made a "Very efficient diy dust collection for drill press drum sander". You can find the video in my channel :D

Good ideas Sergio thanks for sharing

Excellent!!!
What would you say is the best speed to have the drill press set at for sanding with this?
Softwood/Acrylic 700 - Hardwood 1500
Really great ideas in this design and build, gonna make some for my new (old) press!!
very good projetic, and easy.
Nice build and woodworking skills! However, for those who live in the states:
