I remember first seeing Nasser in a muscle mag when I was a kid. I could not believe someone could look like him. I actually had his picture on my wall as motivation for my training. Now I am older than he was in this video. Feels kind of strange. RIP Nasser. Thanks for the memories, motivation and inspiration.

Nasser was a thinking man's bodybuilder. I was only 12 in 1997 so by the time I was fully into the bodybuilding lifestyle Nasser had fallen pretty steeply from his second place Olympia finish to Dorian. Nasser was thickly muscled but always plagued by a thick, somewhat chronically bloated stomach appearance. If Nasser had better arms and a tighter midsection he could have been a Mr. Olympia. Even without those improvements he was seemingly robbed of a Mr. Olympia victory in the aforementioned 1997 runner up loss to Dorian (who was off form with a torn biceps). Rest in peace Nasser.

I remember an anecdote from Nasser from an old interview.
sometime a woman approached to him and I asked how much weight he was able to move, since she was moving and needed someone to move the furniture of her house.and he replied that no, because it was like asking Andre Agassi (a former tennis player) to take his dog for a walk 🐕 when he ran just because the dog needs exercise.
What a shame that Nasser no longer here.

That was Nasser El Sonbaty on the outside. On the inside, his academic background was not insignificant: a graduate in History, Political Science and Sociology and a speaker of seven languages (Serbian, English, Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish and German).
