G'day Tina. Try using ceramic drill bits to remove the product from the nails. Ceramic doesn't get hot, like metal bits do. Ceramic is far more gentle on the nails and safer than metal. The rose gold bits look pretty, but the base metal is copper which gets extremely hot. Best!
@@tina_yong- I use a brand called Melody Susie. 5 ceramic drill bits for around £20 from Amazon. I also have a lovely set from Wish which work just as well and were under £5. The main benefits to ceramic is that, apart from not getting hot and being much more gentle on fingernails, is that they are easier to clean and disinfect. Unlike the metal bits, they don't rust. (All the best from a fellow Aussie in the UK).
@@tina_yong im in New Zealand so i just get mine off the sites i use here, but im pretty sure they are all pretty much the same, the ones i just got are a cheaper brand and work just as well :)
You done a great job tina. Im a nail tech myself i would defo advise using a 240 grit file for the natural nail and remove the gel with an orange wood stick and in the direction of nail growth as its more gentle on the natural nail . P.s. your nails are beautiful and your so talented. 🙏💅❤
Hi, since you were talking about gritness of the file, do you have any advice on prepping the natural nail for gel polish? I just bought the supplies and I am not sure what type of file i should use, i even see some people using 100 grit block 😳
@@Rugstelejusi defo not 100 grit!! Try a fine white buffing block and run over the edges with a files..be careful not to over buff .. and if you try CND gel you dont need to buff at all ! Hope this helps In terms of prep before gel... try a dry manicure as you dont want any oils on your nail plate . Dont use water either this will cause tbe expansion of your nail plate thus meaning adherence of the gel wont be great and will probs not last long at all .. be gental with your cutical work and dont over do it ... p.s cutical is the white keratinised tissue that is seen as you push back your skin visable on the nail plate.. if needed gently buff any that sticks and you cant remove .. before application whipe over the nail with acetone or alcohol to dehydrate it .. Sigh, thin nails, mine peel off so after reaching a certain length. I always create a product barrier on my skin when doing long acetone soaks. Excellent video, looking forward to the re-gel!
Sadly nail strength and thickness is genetic. I have super bendy, flimsy nails so even if I managed to grow them out that long they'd break in a couple days (if they didn't have gel on them). You can do soft UV gel polish on your nails to add strength (and colour/shine). You can even soak it off (easier to remove). But you can't add length with them. They're basically like really long wearing nail polish. But if you want to extend your nails using tips or nail forms you need a hard gel/builder gel, which is filed off. I think this is what Tina has on her nails. For a similar look you can also do acrylic, dip acrylic, polygel, etc. If you want to learn to do your own nails there are so many awesome tutorials on RUclips. That's how I learned! Sorry if you already know all this stuff, I just get excited about nails :)
Actually, you can do a soft gel/soak off gel extension. Après and Kokoist offer soft soak off gel extensions which Ive used on my thin and flexible nails for years and it’s always been really reliable. Ive been able to grow out my nails after having those on for awhile and now I don’t even need them and I just use Japanese gel on my nails. Specifically I use Presto Japanese gels. I really recommend watching Nail Career Education, the Nail Hub, Paola Ponce Nails, and Mei Yan’s videos on nails. They’re extremely informative and helpful.
I second this! Tina, Holotaco lasts 2-3 weeks and makes your nails SOLID. I love their polish but if you try them here's my tip...unless it's her topcoat dont put one on top of the holo polish. It lasts longer that way.
I don't know why but I did not get this video in my feed until this morning. But Tina I just wanted to let you know you have a way of speaking with instructions that is soothing and not intimidating. I really like your nail videos.
Little tip, the c-curve of your nail is what makes its stronger (even if you go nails on the thinner side). To get you nails in a good c-curve I’ve heard to avoid filing the sides, so avoid coffin/ almond-shaped nails, it ruins your c-curve.
It might be weird but when I soak off my gel/acrylic, after I put on the cotton and foils, I put on a large disposable glove and cover the glove with a hot towel and wrap my hand in a plastic bag to insulate it It may look weird but it makes the soak off process way faster! I saw it on a Korean nail channel a while back and have been doing that ever since😊
If the nail products are applied AND removed properly there's no damage caused to your natural nails by the actual products - the damage is caused by over the top prep or rough / hasty removal.
I didn’t know you could season a nail file 😅 I’ve always hated them because I would accidentally scratch myself around the cuticle with them. Mystery solved!

Hi Tina! Love your channel in my going down the rabbit hole of RUclips videos since I'm going from being a regular at home polish fanatic to learning to do gel manis properly so I don't have to pay the outrageous prices in my city at salons which quadruple om top of it if so much as 1 rhinstone to an accent finger is added lol. I have one comical question I have not seen one video address however and hoping you can it.. I also am going the efile drill route as I like thicker gel nails as well so regular files and acetone soaking for hours wont cut it for me among sensitizes even my strong thick nails . The one thing that is annoying is all that colored dust that flies everywhere when filing off my manis especially as I use alot of pink polishes and it can stain. I'd love to sit at a desk or table but feel like the dust still goes everywhere so I have been standing over my bathroom sink everytime and then washing it right after but am wondering what the heck everyone else at home does as I definitely dont want to stain my tables, rugs, or chairs. Doesn't seem like a tiny towel under my hands when filing will contain all the dust flying off either. Thanks for any tips! 😅
Hi Tina thank you for video. I too love doing my nails often, unfortunately guess had some type of allergic reaction to the "soak off" I belive. Now fingertips are peeling, very rough skin. It's so annoying, been using 💯 extra virgin coconut oil. Any suggestions appreciated!!!

I don’t quite like the sound of nail filing, specially the electric one but I also find the electric nail filer can damage your natural nail plate. I lean more towards the manual filing 😊
