  • Have you ever wondered how every MLB team got its Logo? Well I did too!
    I wanted to know what every Baseball Logo looked like through the years, season to season, so I decided to take an unreasonably long time to research each team and create this video. Hopefully you learn a thing or two, too! Each team is listed in the order that they were founded or became a part of Major League Baseball and I try and cover every logo the team has ever had! I hope you enjoy the history of every MLB logo!

    54:03 These two are wearing the logos of Minnesota's minor league teams the Minneapolis Millers and the St. Paul Saints and are essentially uniting the rival fan bases. This is also why the Twins chose a "TC" cap because they didn't want to alienate the Saints fans by wearing an "M" cap which could be misconstrued to mean Minneapolis.

    "Old English" for the most part is a misnomer. This style font is in the Blackletter category, a style created with a wide, flat nib pen. It includes a lot of Germanic fonts of that era. I was happy to see the Tigers settle on one style of D. Prior, one was more Germanic, the other more English.
    Later, I could explain why "Ye Olde Shoppe" is pronouced "The Old Shop". But that seems better suited for another day . . .
    But, if you are curious, look up the word 'ligature'.

    • @JustinLearnsThings
      @JustinLearnsThings  10 месяцев назад +2

      Totally, I thought about explaining blackletter in general, but really starts to go beyond the scope of the video and since i was already pushing 90 minutes, seemed like something better simplified by old English, which most people connect with.

    Am I the only one who thinks the Pittsburgh Pirates logo from 1997 should've stuck around? It looks so intimidating and fierce, fitting of a pirate!
    I don't mind the gold P. It has classic status for sure. But having a scowling pirate as your logo ups the coolness factor, at least for me.
    P.S. The same goes for the Cleveland Indians logo, too. It won't be long before some pressure group tries to bring the name back. Don't mind the Guardians name (more car references FTW), but Indians is too classic to erase forever.

    Little fun fact about the Blue/White/Orange colors of NYC. It is the color of the flag of the city which is a redesign of the Dutch (Netherlands) flag of the 1600s when New Amsterdam (New York City) was settled.

    The Cardinals logo came about in 1922 when the Cardinals owner was attending an event in Ferguson, Missouri. Up until this point Cardinals were seen as a team named for their uniform color, not the bird. At the event the hall was decorated with clothesline string and on the strings they had put Cardinal birds perched up on em. The owner loved this, and had one of the organizers (an artist) create a logo of cardinals perched on a bat. Through this we got the iconic birds on the bat slapped right along the chest. This was actually seen as really out there uniform design as most teams simply had their cities name along the front

    Yeeaaaah, we don't talk about late 90's/aughts Blue Jays logos. Hell, the 2004 logo not only dropped the 'Blue' from the name, but also from the uniforms.

    You don’t have the change (for the Texas Rangers entry when that team was the Washington Senators from 1961 thru 1971) for what was on the players' caps, going from the block W (apparently inherited from pre-1961 Senators, who had moved to Minnesota) to script W (similar to Washington Nationals and the Walgreens drug chain.

    ‘50s-‘80s Atlanta Braves, I never would of noticed the tomahawk taken off for a more normal A to help with racist or whatever. Pretty cool for the braves on that. I remember charle sheen in 2 1/2 men, being the pitcher and remember the Indians/Guardians logo off that baseball movie and obviously present day and when I started watch baseball around ‘02. I like the ‘40s Pittsburgh Pirates logo actually using almost an actual tattoo idea for a pirate.

    Wow!! I didn’t know Houston had that COLT logo, that is so beautiful!!! Wish they kept it even though I hate the Astros. But you know people would be crying about the gun logo… but it’s gorgeous!❤
    The *INDIANS* went from one of the most iconic, coolest logos in all of sports, to now becoming easily, EASILY baseballs worst logo. The 1949 logo looked so nice on hats. It shouldn’t have, due to how goofy it was… but it worked SO WELL. I think it’s really dumb how we look back on history with a 2020’s eye/mind. We assume anything people think today must be what they thought 70+ years ago.
    No Indians fan looked at that hat and thought, ‘yea that looks like an actual Indian’ it was obviously a cartoon.
    It would be like assuming anyone thought that the 1928/1960derpy looking tiger was what we saw tigers as, or the smiling Oriel was what birds looked like lol.
    I have never met a Cleveland fan that thinks the Guardians logo is cool lol.
    I am a *Mariners* fan… despite our lack of deep history… I feel they’ve always had one of the best logos! Be it their Pilots logo, the S or even the Spring Training compass logo! I’m not a big fan of the Trident but I know many like it.
    I kinda dig that White Sox one with the globe … though yeah, it sorta looks like a police badge lol. But was unique!!!
    That 1990s-2000 Baltimore logo was actually my favorite as a little girl!!!! ❤
    Also… tell me the cartoon tiger of DET. Doesn’t look like WEASEL from Suicide Squad hahahaha

    Great video, but there are two things you left out. First off, The Yankees started as the Baltimore Orioles for two seasons. They used a yellow O and a blue block B for each year. And speaking of the Orioles, before they were the Browns, they were the Milwaukee Brewers for a season. Their logo was just an arched. “Milwaukee” word mark. But again, great job! These videos are fun.

    The Pirates logos listed for the time period Clemente was active arent on any of the uniforms in pics of him. Were some logos not put on a teams uniform?

    • @JustinLearnsThings
      @JustinLearnsThings  11 месяцев назад

      I think I see what you mean looking at google searches, the black with yellow outline logo/wordmark? It's interesting, a number of teams have "official logos" which are how you'd see the team represented, like the icon next to their name on the MLB website. But then their uniforms often stray pretty far from that. My (limited) understanding with the pirates is that they often use the black with yellow outline as a variant of their official logo
