  • Hello and thanks for your visit!
    US Floetrol! Thanks to Jodie ‪@ThePaintedDreamer‬ , who reminded me of the good old US recipe of a Cellactivator.
    Please, check out her latest experiments with US Floetrol as a pouringmedium...
    / thepainteddreamer
    I'll give you a little history time, how the US Version got developed. And still I don't know, if it just was coincidence or knowledge...
    MY 'naiomi' recipe for US Floetrol Cellactivator
    1part paint
    1 part glue all
    2 parts US Floetrol
    a few drops of wood conditioner
    acrylic ink as a thinner possible
    I used the following paints:
    in my CA:
    Amsterdam - Titanium white
    in my pouring medium:
    Golden paints heavy body - paynes grey
    Firedots pigments (Discount code below) - pearl white
    boom gel - willie wag tail black
    A big shout out to my lovely Patreons Katrin Ga., Lisa C., Susan Far. and Dianne Her and Elise ...You simply are the best! I am so happy you are with me on this journey and help me support my art.

    The spinner I'm using is my own design and creation. Every single workstep is done by my hands and my table saw (operated by me)
    I sell these on my homepage and if you want to up your game and create on big canvases, you seriously should check it out!
    DISCLAIMER: It's a tool for serious artists, I always recommend getting a small , cheaper spinner to try if spinning is your thing first. After you've tried other versions, I promise you'll appreciate this guy over all of them if you work with big heavy canvasses and you spin all the time, like me.

    Fascinating. (Picture AND experiment). I mentioned to Jodi, on her last video, that I have been fooling around with a CA using US Floetrol with some tar gel (the one I have is from Golden) because of it’s stretchy properties. It gives me cells and lacing just like AU Floetrol. The only problem is that the stretchiness sort of continues. It “relaxes” so to speak and the cells and lacing lose their crisp look. Thinking about some glue or some Mix Pour to stiffen it up. I like to experiment.

    • @millyfluidart7482
      @millyfluidart7482 2 года назад

      Could you share your CA recipe using the tar gel please

    • @margaret7620
      @margaret7620 2 года назад

      @@millyfluidart7482 Sure, but, as i said, it’s not quite right yet. It tends to “relax” too much and I lose definition. My little batch was: 1 oz US Floetrol, 1 oz Golden tar gel, 1 1/2 oz water, and 1 oz paint. My plan is to play around by maybe decreasing the water down to 1 oz and/or adding a bit of glue (Elmer’s) or Mix pour.

    • @WinterStromArt
      @WinterStromArt  2 года назад +2

      yes, it sound like it is too much water. Isn't experimenting the most fun!?

    • @margaret7620
      @margaret7620 2 года назад +1

      @@WinterStromArt It is and you are correct. Way too much water. I tried a different approach, comparing consistency between AU floetrol to a US + tar gel, then adding drops of water until the US concoction looked and felt the same. Then I mixed up some CA (3 to 1) with Amsterdam Oxide Black (my first CA color) of each kind. Tomorrow I’ll try them out on a bloom and a swipe - have to make up a couple of colors. I already used up the dregs I had laying around. LOL. It’s the most fun.

    The more I see you paint with the U.S. mix, the more I like it. There's a spooky stretched sinew quality to it which reminds me a little of the artwork for the "Alien' series by H.R. Giger. Wanna know what I discovered works way better than Elmer's glue all? Gorilla wood glue! You get an immediate cell reaction, you don't get the ghosting or scattering in your lacing, lines are super sharp and stable. The dried results are spectacular! Maybe because there's way more binder in gorilla wood glue? Dunno but I'm loving it. Thank you so much for your amazingness ❤ FYI gorilla glue is off white but the pigment in Amsterdam titanium white eats up that color so you do get a crisp solid white lacing.

    Because I adore you - please, please, please - at a minimum - open that wood conditioner outside and add the drops outside of your studio. Or wear a respirator.
    I find it fascinating that you, Jodie, and Cindy are all going back to US Floetrol recipe.
    I know you do woodwork, and probably use chemicals all the time.
    Just be cautious with volatile organic compounds and their known toxicities.
    Love the experimentation and adore the final pieces you made.

    P.S. I hesitate to make a suggestion but I have thought about it and I think you are open to suggestions without feeling criticized ...... Perhaps you could keep a big, strong masonry trowel or a cake slice thingy within reach of your spinner for when you want to pick up your substrate. I worry about your precious swiping palette knives.....
