"If I'm ever having a bad day I'm just going to remember Ricardo." Best thing Jeremy has said in this channel 🤣
1:18 “Are you the devil?”
Hmm...which show am I in...”no.”
_"...This episode will never get old..."_
"That, I can do"
0:59 - [spoilery observation...]
...I just noticed Richard's line "Because I want to live!" mirrors his line from the finale - when Miles pulls Richard's first white hair off his head and Richard smiles and says, "I think I just realized that I wanna live."
Richard's journey to and on the Island is absolutely heartbreaking 😭💔
And as someone who watched LOST when it originally aired - I laughed so hard when Jacob said he wasn't the Devil because Mark Pellegrino had been playing Lucifer on Supernatural (another one of my favourite shows) for almost six months before this 'Ab Aeterno' aired 🤣
That little half-smirk just before he says "no" gets me everytime!
@@HogwartsReacts is Supernatural a possible series for review?
Maybe that is why Richard seemed to take shine toward John Locke. Both of the were pawns from the beginning and had tragic lives.
@@HogwartsReacts Now try to imagine, the character on Supernatural is actually also Jacob He just pretends to be Lucifer for shits and giggles, kind of his own "game", he plays with people...;.D
Jacob also dunks Richard's head in the water three times, like Jesus being baptized in the River Jordan.
And of course, Richard looks like Jesus throughout this episode and fulfills his role as the sort of intermediary between the divine being Jacob and people.
On top of my commment on 1st part video, I want to add now that I loved that you also took little bit extra time to discuss episode, I loved that Hannah was so into it and as we are getting closer to the end I am more and more sure she will love ending, and we will love that she loved it.
I could listen to Hannah talk about Lost all day! She's one of my favourite reactors ❤
I remember when it was aired, I had a huge exam at school. I knew it will be a Richard centric episode and it's gonna be awesome, so of course I watched it before going school (like every episode). I was a totall wreck after this, yeah great mood for the exam.
I'm guessing that Brian knows about this, but I was surprised that while they were looking at the box set he didn't mention the bonus disc that is hidden in the lid under the map. For anyone who doesn't know, you can rotate the map section separately from the larger lid and it comes off revealing a storage compartment underneath with the bonus disk. Fun.
Bob Shirley I 100% know. When jeremy was studying it, I really thought he might figure it out. Lol. We will get to it later.
Yea it's pretty cool. If you shine the included Dharma black light on it, you can see the donkey wheel on it, instructing you to rotate it. 😉
I got this set when it first came out, found that, and have never been able to get the map to swivel correctly back into place. :(
@@lunatichigh7777 You have to line up the teeth with the cavities in the top.
@@TECfan1 yeah unfortunately the grooves there have been totally smushed and damaged which is the problem. Not sure why they would make it out of such soft cardboard. I'd have to do some repairs to get it back in.
I was an emotional wreck after this episode
One of the absolute best episodes of the entire series. I re-watch the whole series about once every year and have seen every episode somewhere around 20-30 times...and I'll tell ya,that scene with Isabella and Ricardo at the end with Hurley translating, gets me every time. It's just beautifully done, yet so sad and tragic at the same time, while Giacchino's score hits all the emotional beats. It's been 10 years since this episode aired but I still remember it like it was yesterday.....fuck man, I love this show!!
Spent this whole episode crying along with Hannah 🥺😂
“Are you the devil?”
“No, but I play one on tv.”
I get the obvious reference but are you also referencing what I think you're referencing?
@@navanubis Supernatural
Now try to imagine, the character on Supernatural is actually also Jacob He just pretends to be Lucifer for shits and giggles, kind of his own "game", he plays with people...;.D
@@chanceneck8072 supernatural was the obvious reference. I was just wondering if Chris was also referencing Stargate
Poor Richard, Jesus! Oh God, he's breaking my heart...."what's in the box?!" Richard was so afraid of going to hell....'I want to live forever'....no , no you don't! Oh Ricardo....
This show has always played on themes of opposing concepts or opposites at odds. There was Locke's speech about light vs. dark. The constant early on struggles of Locke vs. Jack which represented faith vs. logic. Or just the ever present overall theme of religion/spirituality vs. science.
" is the offer still stands... Is the offer still stands "😫😭😭
My favorite episode of the whole show, period
YES. Normally stand alone episodes are so tricky...you really have to have a powerful actor to drive them...and that...paired with the fact that we needed ANSWERS on Richard just made it the perfect storm at the perfect time. For me, "Across the Sea" just didn't pack the same punch that this episode did.
@@HogwartsReacts across the sea good episode becuse we know MIB is the good one and he just want to leave and jacob is the bad one
@@hjlnbi The MIB hates humans, murders indiscriminately, and knows that the world will end if he leaves the island, and he doesn't care. Jacob wants to keep the world protected and did so by putting a potentially good thing in the lives of people who needed it.
@@Volvagia0slayer last episode hes back to human form so hes just want to leave
@@hjlnbi Very true. But that's because he has managed to separate himself from the energy by destabilizing it ahead of time which is going to destroy the world if it's not turned back on.
Great reaction all the way around! Ty🥂 .... omg love the hair!!!!
Well I can say the statue is definitely "officially" said to be Taweret by the creators, as it's even in the official Lost encyclopedia book that they made, but I suppose it's up to the viewer's interpretation.
I wonder who built it and what it´s made out of. Like, was it taken over from like Egyptian times or did Jacob build it himself? I think, Taweret kind of also represents like a mothertly figure, right? Or maybe, some other theory, I´ve heard, was that it always looks the direction, where you would be able to leave the Island....
Those were ALL interesting to me! Like, they built so much lore and world with Lost, it would be such a shame if that´s NEVER gonna get picked up in any way, shape or form at all anymore.....
@@chanceneck8072 Well, there are hints of Egyptian symbols and temples all over the Island. So it can be inferred that Jacob had brought a group of them at some point in the island's history. I would assume that they lived there for a long time since the temple and statue would have taken years to complete. I agree. I wish the creators would have expanded on the lore a bit about the ancient history of the island. At least in a book or comic of something. It would also be cool to see who Jacob and MIB's "mother's" mother was, and who the first person on the island was and where the island came from etc...
@@TECfan1 Or have those been on the Island since even BEFORE Jacob??? I don´t know, I find it so fascinating to speculate about this, also with other fans. The mythology is a big part about why I love Lost so much, I just desperately want it to get picked up again to SOME degree....
@@chanceneck8072 It depends on what Egyptians came. Claudia, Jacob and MIB's real mother, was Roman. So depending on when she landed there, Egypt and Rome could have been going on at the same time. We really don't know, though.
Dammit, you made me get my box out! Love the conversation. We all felt the same frustration
as Hogwarts when we watched the first time and the second and so on and so on!!!!
I happy this episode came, finally! Ab Aeterno ’is My favorite episode!
But they miss the chapter of his life of him being Batmanuel!
Tick for the Candidate!
I bought that LOST box set when it came out, and I had like $500 to my name and I spent $200 on it lol.
$200 well spent!
Hogwarts Reacts I also bought the complete series Blu-ray set back in August of 2010 when it came out. It is a great box set and yes, it was about $200 but well worth it. 👍
Hogwarts Reacts absolutely! I still cherish it.
@@CR41489 does the blu-ray version have all the same goodies and bonus discs? Lol I want to buy it someday...although not sure where to look and what box set to type in the search bar. Is there a specific name of this set?
Slenderfoxx37 Hello. The complete collection on both Blu-ray and DVD is fully loaded with a ton of extras. I never bought the individual seasons before I bought the complete box, but I believe the discs are the same. Also, underneath the top lid is an extra bonus disc that has even more great extras. If there were exclusive retail bonus disc content I’m not sure if that material is in the set, but as I mentioned, lots of extras are in abundance. The only disappointing thing for you is that the set is no longer in print and it might cost a decent amount. The best place to check for a new unopened set is on eBay. See what you can find there. If you get it I hope you enjoy it. 👍
Wait, Brian! You said you would discuss the meaning of "Ab Aeterno" with them later, but you didn't! I would love to see their reaction to the meaning!!
One of the best episode's of the whole series so tragic and beautiful at the same time and at the time so satisfying to finally get Richard's backstory....
well I finally caught up. Started my rewatch after the first of the year. Excited to see you guys react to the finale!
Thank you for doing two parts. This episode deserved two and you made it happen. Cheers!
My favorite episode of any tv show. EVER!!
Still one of my favourite episodes for explanations.
The statue is called Taweret (Egyptian God Of Fertility). The show will not tell you what it is. The show left that for us fans to find out for ourselves. 😂
This is one of my favorite episodes of the show. I love Nestor so much and he was absolutely fantastic in this episode. He, of course, is throughout the show, but he definitely crushes it this episode. I cried for like 70% of this episode. Lol
10th anniversary of this episode this week
This episode is so wild on first watch. But it becomes so amazing on rewatch.
Really great discussion and ties very nicely to the finale too, gonna be interesting to see this one play out! :)
Holy smash, your hair looks AWESOME 21:47
Tawaret! I was in the fandom at the time and vividly remember the debates. On the forum I most frequented (which was not a specific Lost forum), we debated that for a long time with Tawaret winning the majority but some hard-core Anubis believers. I was an early Tawaret defender. I thought this was confirmed, is this still a debate?
Love this reaction and the post
1:00 "Where's the money Lebowski? Where's the fuckin' money shitheaaaaad?"
The Sobek v. Tawaret arguments (regarding what the statue was) used to be crazy back in the day!
Thank you!!
When u ever have a bad day
just remember
Richard Alpert
XD
The statue is of Taweret, protective goddess of mother and child during pregnancy and childbirth (relevant!). I daren't link due to being spam filtered but google it, definitely her.
I agree! Though I think the head definitely looks more alligator like, than Hippo...the ears definitely look hippo. The Ankhs really seal the deal though.
@@HogwartsReacts To be fair, Sobek and Anubis carry ankhs as well. And Sobek is often depicted as having these same types of ears. Taweret is the only one regularly depicted as carrying two ankhs, but on the other hand Taweret is almost always depicted with a large belly and breasts, and animal-like feet.
@@Volvagia0slayer tbf in the show it does have 4 toes :D
@@yemmlie Both Sobek and Taweret are depicted as having four toes. But Sobek has human feet while Taweret more often has hippo feet.
"Where's the money Lebowski?!"
Where IS Sleepy Hannah?
She was stuck out of town for awhile, but she is catching up. We just watched Dr. Linus last night. She should be back on board the next time we film...
She turned the wheel
She turned the wheel
She turned the wheel
The best episode of lost
"Are you the devil?" "No" (But I played Lucifer on Supernatural.)
This another reason. The best show ever!
The most famous use of the word Ankh of course is in the name of the most famous Egyptian king, TutANKHamun. King Tut...King Tut...Born in Arizona, moved to Babylonia, King Tut!
I have the complete series box set - but I never opened the ankh!
Are you going to do a poll on what to react next? I assume you will start another show cause of the quarantine.
WELCOME to the island!
your host is JACOB
: hey everyone welcome welcome! who ever survives to the final episode gets to replace me!
we have lovely prizes
It's all about situational ethics. It's a sin to kill someone but we can't help but understand why Michael would kill to save Walt. Is he evil? Kate kills her abuser. Is she evil? Are they good? Is there perhaps a spectrum of deeds that is ever changing based on the spirit of the times and the situation? I believe everyone has good and bad in them but which one rises to the surface will depend on so many other factors that you can't make a blanket statement as to whether people are inherently one or the other. That's what Lost shows us over and over. Good people do bad things for reasons that we understand and we sort of forgive them. Isn't that the basis of Christianity, redemption and forgiveness?
Quarantine possibly looming for the US, what's the bet it'll happen just before you get to film the finale xD
The name Austen was there, but crossed off.
This episode was deep
Literally 99% sure it was intended to represent tawaret, as an offering by early island civilisations in hope that it might bring fertility back to the island , after what could be assumed to be after experiencing an electromagnetic event, similar to how women couldn't give birth having conceived on the island post-the incident. Pretty good theory right?
They actually confirmed it was Taweret the god of fertility it explains why after it broke all pregnant women end up dying on the island
Pregnant women didn't end up dying on the island until 1977, over 100 years after the statue was destroyed.
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.
.
I believe that statue was builted by the "Old egyptcians inhabitants" of the Island, because they had an incident themselves, that was solved by their own version of the swan station button: The cork we see in the finale.
@@heitorabdias2212 yep, probably right.
Regardless of what the showrunners confirmed, they used the image of Sobek. So either they're lying or they didn't do their Egyptology research.
@@jmwild1 It may not even be a case of lying. The people who actually worked on the show never confirmed that it was Taweret. Only JJ Abrams confirmed it after he had left the show. Which means it's possible that they originally planned for it to be Taweret. so that's why Abrams "revealed" it was Taweret, but they actually changed their minds if/when they learned that Sobek is also a god of fertility in addition to other relevant island stuff. But it's also possible that they didn't do their research, didn't communicate well with the sculptor what they wanted, or just "revealed" the wrong thing.
Oh no, you opened the Taweret box :(
Ankh Warrior = Vinnie Vincent 🤘
WHHHHAAAAATTTTTSSSS INNNNN THHHHEEEE BOOOOXXXXX!!!!????
1:13 Seriously, I never understood all the Jacob haters. I just love him, if you know him well enough, he´s like the ultimate Boss Baby!..... lol
Plus, I absolutely LOVE this part at 2:14! Just look at his manners...
@Gevorg1989 actually yeah. Up until that point, I did watch Supernatural. I stopped watching at season 8, ironically same with The walking dead... But he was great as Lucifer. I just can't remember that good. Death was still more of a favorite character to me than Lucifer was. But overall the writing was pretty solid. Again, until the thing with the Leviathans happened...
Bro, I think he meant try rewatching Supernatural! How about you try not to make false assumptions?... 😉
You don't understand him for now Hogwarts, but you will, you will...
In my eyes, Jacob could bring his wife back (in some way, maybe not physically), or absorve him of his sins... But just didn't fit his purpose for Richard and his job. Jacob is as manipulative as MiB.
I dont understand this. He makes a point not to interfere. Every time he does interacts with someone it's fairly minimal. Why does jacob get flak for being manipulative but mib gets praised?
@@Maalstrom I didn't praise MiB. I said that "Jacob is as manipulative as MiB", and that put them in the same bag. The very own fact that Jacob is responsable for bringing the people for the island, without their consent or knowlodge, is the definition of manipulative. We don't see MiB being capable of bringing any person to the island, and his manipulative aspect is pretty much shown with Richard, in this episode, and with Sawyer, Sayid and Kate, already as Locke. They are pretty much the same in my eyes.
You guys should react to the chosen!!! It's a new show about Jesus and it's really good and popular right now. It's on season 2 and nobody is reacting to it yet.
Taweret. Goddess of childbirth and fertility I..duuuh :p
12:22 OMG, Hannah, you finally ULTIMATELY nailed it! Yes, I confess, Lost is like religion to me!
I still need that e-mail Brian!
btw, first time I was famous was the video you guys removed. lol, I'm like Hurley.
I thought it was confirmed to be Tawaret the fertility goddess although the statue looked like a male though. It makes sense I guess coz the sperm count on men are higher when they are on the Island
It is confirmed to be Taweret.
I wished Sleepy Hannah was on this episode just to see her reaction to Hogwarts having a hard time during this episode 😂
**SPOILER**
Jacob is father time. That's why he can live or make people live forever. He guards the flow (stream of light) of time. MIB is a representation of the past catching up with you (Their past doesn't matter - Jacob). Through the show we see every character past regrets.
No Lost this morning, Brian ?
Charmed Original thirty more minutes. 8:15am CST
@@HogwartsReacts Gotcha. Was 8:15 here 35 minutes ago.
Looking forward to it. Can't wait !!!!!!
Are you the devil?
only on Thursdays
Jacob is the Old Testament version of God.
"At this point in the series I don't know who is good and who is bad."
SPOILERS???
And you never find out either. Clearly the Man in Black did evil things, but a few THOUSAND years of torment by jailers imprisoning you for no crime might do that to you.
Murder's not a crime?
@@YodatheHobbit Depends, who did he murder? If we're talking about people in the present day, well sure, he's too far gone at that point. I'm asking for what crime was he jailed on the island? Killing "Mother?" That was 100% justified -- the woman who murdered his mother, then murdered every person in the village MiB was spending time in. She's the biggest series antagonist, and I have no problem at all with MiB killing her. She and Jacob concocted that stupid story of MiB being super-evil and needing imprisonment for decades, then hundreds of years until he finally became it.
If someone is imprisoned for a non-existent crime for eons, that person has the right to seek his freedom. It was totally justified for MiB to seek Jacob's death, along with the death of anyone who agreed to continue Jacob's work. What is not justified is killing 3rd parties.
You guys are trying to make too much out of it. Yes, there are a lot of overlap with Christianity, but LOST is its own mythology.
