Cloud: *Trying his hardest to mix sephiroth* "His mind must be entirely on defense to block all this" Sephiroth: "Did I have that clone turn the stove off?"
Cloud: YES! I’ve got him on the ropes! All he can do is BLOCK me! Sephiroth: God, the Clone’s dead, Hojo’s experiments are dead, the Harbinger’s dead, that piece of Mother is dead, the Whispers are dead... it’s just like that jockstrap incident, only now I don’t have the Whispers around to dig the holes.
At this point in the story Sephiroth is simply on a different level. This is the unbeatable enemy I wanted, the one who outclasses you without even trying. When you play the game for the first time you only follow Cloud's movements and you think he's so fast and cool and maybe he can do it, then you watch it back and you realize Sephiroth pretty much stood still the whole fight, smiling. Then you also realize he is currently in a different continent, sleeping. What an incredible character
@QUEENDOM Actually, I feel like anyone who wants to go on about "true" and "fake" Sephiroths didn't understand the original game or the powers Sephiroth had by the end.
@QUEENDOM I think you dont understand also... Maybe it's not sephiroth in the original but Jenova. Also, that's the will of Sephiroth which is strongest than any power of Jenova and we can see it in this Remake, his volition is even stronger than the time itself !
Bruh, it's a whole lot worse than that. In the original games, it was a more even fight because in a similar scene Cloud actually defeated "Sephiroth" with the Omnislash when they were facing off one-on-one. But here, in this exact scene, Sephiroth blocks every blow of the Omnislash perfectly. It isn't like Sephiroth is reading Cloud's movements - he knows Cloud's fighting style them because he has already experienced them! This isn't the Sephiroth at the beginning of Final Fantasy 7 timeline. This is the Sephiroth that we fought in the original Final Fantasy 7 games. The very same Sephiroth that killed Aerith and the one we defeated at the end of Advent Children. This is the same Sephiroth that has haunted us and is literally here in the past wreck havoc on fate itself!
Buster Sword is the well-rounded balanced weapon with 91 physical attack and 91 magic attack atack, while the Hardedge is the physcial-focused weapon and the Mythril Saber is the magic-focused weapon. I can't think of any reason to use any other weapon besides these three. The Nail Bat seems to have a gimmick, but I never really was interested in using it.
@@Captain_Blue_Balls Iron Blade has the Trade Off skill, which can be useful for keeping up MP while in hard mode, but I gotta agree that the other weapons aren't very useful. Nail Bat seems to be a crit weapon, but it's base stats are so abyssmal that it's barely worth investing in.
That's kinda how he is in the boss fight too. He sit there letting you wail on him, and then as you soon as you switch your distance fighter, he crosses the distance quick as hell. Seph was smooth in this fight sequence. At first you think that Cloud wasn't doing too bad, and then Seph is like "Nah."
@@Celestial_Souljah What i like here is that, for the first time in all the FFVII related media, Sephiroth is undoubtely the winner here. In fact, with this he becomes the ONLY villain in all the FF games to definitely win at the end (Kefka became a god but was killed in the end, same for the Emperor, Caïus was technically defeated in XIII-2 and becomes docile in LR since he didn't destroy his immortality and Ardyn was ultimately defeated and killed by Noctis).
Nah. Sephs been playing him since the title screen. Everything Sephiroth has said or done up to that point seems to imply that he already knows what Cloud will do. Even the moment right before Cloud deals the final blow at the end of the boss fight, Seph has a smirk that says "Alright that's good enough." He needs to keep Cloud alive and sharp...otherwise he won't be useful later.
@@rooroo9216 imagine if nomura made it so that sephiroth was the one who spiritually created cloud inside his mothers womb like palpatine did with anakin. I’ll be dead.
@@nathanevans1382 thats the point. It would literally be the biggest plot twist in gaming history. Also it would make sense as to how cloud somehow found the strength to throw sephiroth into the reactor killing him while he was stabbed on the masumune.
3:26 If you notice this attack Cloud tried to fake and goes to the other side of Sephiroth but Sephiroth deflected it easily, in AC Cloud did the same trick in Omnislash v5 then faked out Sephiroth and Cloud took him down, feels like Sephiroth already know this kind of move from Cloud. Credits to the person who pointed this out, I'm not the first one to notice this
@@silverflight01 He is. Refurs to himself as Ore in japanese. This Sephiroth jumped the timeline somehow. He's trying to remove Jenovah's control over him.
@@codymulac4292 Sephiroth was never at the whims of Jenova, he has always had control. I think he is trying to save himself from dying so he can continue his plan. This scene kinda confirms that for me. He wants to be the ultimate life form by taking the planet and pressing on.
I mean that's not really the same, in AC Cloud's fakeout was the multipart sword I forget the name of. He doesn't try the same trick shown here in AC afaik.
Little things in this Edge of Creation fight scene, Sephiroth, a leftie, actually swaps to his right hand after two clashes and fights COMFORTABLY before switching back as Cloud tries to hit him from the side. This one scene just quietly established how dangerous of a swordsman he is, he is quite literally ambidextrous.
actually after seeing this comment, i played it at 0.25 speed to see those exact moments, and he actually starts off with his right hand, which only adds to the last part of your comment
He starts with the right, deflected the 3rd hit with a reverse grip, threw his sword in the air and changed back to a normal grip to push cloud back on the 4th hit
He also had that awesome moment before entering the final boss something about it not being the first time he spit on fate etc etc.. man what a good character development he had ofc second to zack my man.
Jcie Zack? C’mon now I love Zack but idk if his character development was better than Barret’s in the remake. Zack’s development isn’t even better than Cloud and Tifa’s in the og
Mrr93 Must be a young person. All I can think of is I am probably going to be almost 50 before this series is complete at the rate they will probably go.
I love how in every fight you see sephiroth in he always begins on the defensive then goes overwhelmingly off on the offensive. He disarms cloud like a badass in this fight.
Cloud doesn't even realize how he knows how to use omnislash; he's got his future memories/experiences with him in this place. Unfortunately for him, so does Sephiroth, he won't be taken surprise by omnislash again.
This Sephiroth is literally a continuation of Advent Children Sephiroth, thats why has new moves like Telluric fury and speaks like be has knowledge of prior events.
EvanSimpson17 I guess you found out already but Sephiroth refers to the end of the world aka Meteor and not Aerith‘s Death. It say so in the chapter description.
People don’t realize how powerful cloud really is. This man looked Sephiroth in his deep Emerald eyes and said “no”. Couldn’t be me The joke is Sephiorth is incredibly handsome. Watch FF7 Honest trailer
You know, I don't think I could say "No" to him either, but my reasons would be more complicated. First, I actually sympathize with Sephiroth a little. For all his evil, his actions, and his delusions of grandeur, he was a victim of forces beyond his control: Shinra's lust for power and Jenova's psychopathy. (Ironically this is one of the reasons 7 didn't resonate with me the same way it did for others.) Second, Sephiroth has had MANY occasions when he could have killed Cloud easily, but he didn't. Yes, that might be due to his future plans to use Cloud to gain the Black Materia, but I think it's because he respects Cloud as a fighter, if not as a person. In a sense, even now as Sephy outclasses Cloud, he knows how much strength it took for Cloud to best him in the past. So that invitation to join him is an enormous gesture of respect, admitting they are -- in one sense or another -- equals. Third, from a meta standpoint, I've always liked the idea of redemption arcs for villains. While most will scoff at the idea, Sephiroth might be trying to escape Jenova's influence with Cloud's help. Maybe this is Sephiroth trying to atone for his mistakes or just him crying desperately to be rescued. It could certainly destroy his threatening demeanor if the developers go this direction, but it could also make him more relatable. (Think Doctor Doom from Fantastic Four fame.) Whatever the case, Cloud is simply wiser -- or perhaps more vengeful -- than we are. Because he didn't even TRY to take Sephiroth's offer. It's another reminder why he's probably the greatest protagonist in FF history.
@@NathanDav42 Yeah, but I think it's more complicated than that. There's fear, rage, a measure of respect, and a slight sense of honor in his response. It's a firm no, but it comes after two seconds of hesitation, and he steps back to give Sephiroth a chance to draw his own sword.
Yeah, it's also mixed in with the music from when cloud and Tifa fell into the lifestream and cloud was in a coma. This music was purposefully chosen to show that cloud and sephiroth are fighting in the lifestream right now.
It's amazing. And I'm confident that it's not even the "real" version of the song, it is more like a tease of it with how subdued it is. When we hear the real version whenever we get to the Forgotten City......I just can't wait to hear it.
That boy Cloud wielding the Buster sword like a feather. Not to be F'd with. I would be Scared to see if he actually joined Seph. They'd be unbeatable.
Sephiroth aint even trying. And when he does he immediately disarms cloud and could kill him right then and there. Of all the final fantasy villains, he is definitely the best swordsman
Everyone bringing up the “seven seconds” line about Aeriths death and how it relates to the time it takes to kill her, and I’m all like: They’re playing the music of the place where she died. This is exactly what he’s talking about.
@Owenboy360 "In a world beyond, Sephiroth shows Cloud a vision of the planet seven seconds before it's demise." Meteor is not mentioned in the logs. But, if the "demise" of the planet that's referred to in this log is talking about Meteor, then Aerith's relationship to the seven seconds is even more implied. You can't disconnect Aerith's actions: Her prayer for Holy, and subsequently her death that allowed her to control the lifestream to hold back Meteor so Holy can finally do it's job, from stopping Meteor. If the seven seconds are associated with stopping Meteor, and not associated to her death, then it's associated with her prayer. If it's not associated with either, then it has to do with you confronting Sephiroth to allow Holy to activate. If it's neither of these things: Then it is a brand new thing. Now, if were going into theorizing it's a new thing, then it frankly has a really good chance to not have anything to do with Meteor. We still don't know what the edge of creation is, what's it's relative too, and how it definitely factors into what Sephiroth is planning. What we do know though, is that the remake literally uses music throughout the plot as a way to convey plot. With the Sephiroth theory that he's from the future being heavily influenced by a track of music from Advent Children playing when you first meet him in Remake. If not with her death, whatever these seven seconds are referring too either her or the ancient's.
They literally redid the scene after the safer seph battle in the original. You can choose omnislash to attack first or let seph attack and then you just do a regular attack to win This time though feels like there’s a choose your own adventure going on with a consequence for your choice to attack or be attacked That’s your seven seconds ‘til the end Aerith’s life/death is not “the end” he’s talking about
I totally thought the 7 seconds for Sephiroth’s descent into killing Aerith was debunked, but then I realized the Temple of the Ancients theme got remixed and is totally playing in the scene. We’re gonna save her! But we might doom the planet in doing so 😭
In the original translation “but what will you do with it" line is quite different to the Japanese line where he says ”but we can still make it in time, the future is up to you, cloud.” I reckon the meaning is somewhat different.
My take on this is that Sephiroth needs Cloud to save Aerith because her death is ultimately what stopped him. However, once Aerith realizes this, she will decide that she needs to die in order to stop Sephiroth. Shock value for her death goes up. Hope given. Hope stripped away.
I remember when cloud and Aerith meet for the first time and sephiroth puts a hand on her shoulder and tells cloud “you can’t save no one, not even yourself” shit is getting real
i know this is very late, but there is a little fact about this scene Cloud does exactly 15 hit on Sephiroth just like the OG Omnislash (15 hit), but Sephiroth blocked & Evade all of the hits time marks for each hit: 3:11 - 3:13 (1st 2nd and 3rd consecutive hits) 3:14 (jump and 4th hit) 3:18 (high jump and 5th hit) 3:20 (6th but Sephiroth evade it, while cloud throws his sword to the air) 3:21 (jump and catch his sword then do the 7th hit) 3:26 (do a fake attack switching to the other side of Sephiroth for the 8th hit) 3:28 - 3:29 (the 9th hit but Sephiroth parried it *the parry actually hard to see* and then Cloud proceed for the 10th hit) 3:30 - 3:33 (11th hit by attempting to stab and proceed to do 12th*blocked* 13th*evaded* and 14th*blocked* consecutive hits) 3:34 (15th hit and blocked, this is Cloud's last attempt to hit Sephiroth) if it's hard to spot play it on 0.25
Noticed how Cloud's attacks make a very light and hollow sound as he tried to hit Seph, but as soon as Seph goes to hit it's a big old clang, very different noise. I don't know, I think I like that
I love how Sephiroth’s words show that he recognises Cloud as an equal, and that Sephiroth knows he can only hope to succeed with Cloud by his side. This scene makes me wonder what would have happened if Cloud had taken Sephiroth’s hand.
@1:50 For me personally, this is the most epic moment in video game history. The way the music kicks in, how cloud refuses Sephiroth's hand, the fight that ensues afterward. After 23 years the modern depiction of this scene is really the stuff you can only dream of. You can tell they built the soundtrack to fit the scene not the other way around. Just pure perfection.
I wholeheartedly agree. I was 13 in 1997 playing this original scene and seeing it now is the stuff dreams are made of for me, and many of us it seems. I waited to play remake until now and after beating it with Rebirth around the corner I’m excited to see where this remake of the story takes us. I’ve been reading all the theories but I have a feeling as beloved as Sephiroth has become he might actually get a redemption arc. Who knows.
Fun fact: This was literally the first time in their 20+ year history in which Sephiroth WON. Every other exchange between them (Nibelheim, the final boss fight, Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts) has either ended with Cloud winning, or a stalemate.
Y'know, for such a long sword, Sephiroth keeps its quite close to his body, its a nice contrast from Cloud, who is more open to having his away from his body
Actually the final take in the scene is with the sword being stuck in the ground, similarly to the game's starting screen, so basically it's a hint I guess (as the authors said, a lot of hints what will be in next part are in game). You could literally connect the fact they are on an edge of creation (that's all we got for you guys in this release) and from that point you can either continue (old plot) or start a new game (follow different path, "carefull now" - it's not yet defined how we will move forward). I don't believe they invested time to render this particular take just for the sake of it. It definitely means something. That's my theory, but this can be as well a way to tease with veterans, executed in a great way, to build up some anxiety and emotions despite you know the original inside out.
It is amazing how the most intelligent comment (6 months old) has no replies. Perhaps if you spelled words incorrectly, it would attract them. Then again, if they responded, would this observation mean anything?
@@JustSoICanComment777 LMAO the diss on misspelled comments is hilarious, but you’re definitely right. I’ve never seen this particular theory anywhere else and it’s actually thought provoking
After Rebirth this shit hits so differently. Still enigmatic as hell tho. But the "careful now, that which lies ahead does not yet exist" now makes me think Cloud was getting visions of the future, of the Rebirth events.
It's crazy how powerful Cloud is here compared to the original, and he still easily gets wrecked. Flash stepping and shit, and Sephiroth barely moves. He's on a whole other level. It makes sense that this is post AC Sephiroth trying to rewrite his history. Give Cloud the illusion that they aren't enemies and make Cloud do the dirty work for him. If this ends up being true, Sephiroth just got even more sinister.
@Charles Brown stuff like kunsel being mentioned as friend of clouds, g type soldiers being mentioned by hojo, all the crisis core. The underground lab is supposed to be a reference deep ground frof dirge of cerberus. The final sephiroth boss fight is practically a homage to advent children. Just to name a few While remake isn't following the compilation to a tee, it is using elements of it to flesh out the world off ff7 imo a better way than the compilation did its self for og.
I was looking for a comment that talked about how badass Sephiroth looked when he was parrying Cloud by just resting his sword on his shoulders while lightly swaying his head and torso for added sexiness.
AMHarbinger: Careful now. That which lies ahead ... does not yet exist. Our channel will become a part of it. But I will not end. Nor will I have this video end. Viewer: This is...? AMHarbinger: The edge of copyrights
Credit to Maximillian Dood for bringing it to my attention, I wanted check the music playing when Cloud and Seph face-off at the end of the world, and he's right--it's the city of ancients theme; the one that plays in the area that serves as the setting for the fateful Aerith scene in the og game.
It was so unmistakable when I got to the scene. CotA is one of my favorite tracks so when those synths started I felt that ominous tingle up my spine I hadn't felt in a long time.
AoiiNu yeah it’s one of my favorite tracks from the original game and recognized it immediately. The music for this entire game was masterclass let this team do the music for the next Dragon Quest because the music in DQ11 was subpar at best.
One little touch that I absolutely ADORE is how the “Edge of Creation” is supposed to resemble the title screen. Quite literally the edge between our reality and the game’s.
That's what I love about the new guy. The old cast sounds like they're right out of Kingdom Hearts, monotone, slow and stilted most of the time. I know it's due to the directing but still. These new peeps sound like they can give the ham and cheese.
@@hiddenmaster6062 I still wish we had the original Zack va. But I understand that if we did have him in this game he would sound kinda jarring compared to the others
The cool element of this entire scene is how it effectively sets Aerith and Sephiroth up as foils. One understands the comfort of the certainty in the future, and the other one fears what's to come should it pass. This is usually the reverse: protagonists tend to want to change the future, rather than keep something bad from happening due to inaction. But there's the double whammy because there clearly IS something you want to avert that normally does happen, which is seemingly, what Sephiroth wants too. This entire scene feels like subtext for what the Remake series wants to say about the original game, and it actually (So far) makes Sephiroth a more relatable villain in some ways, to me.
Originally the Buster Sword in the ground is supposed to be a shot from the mountain side overlooking Midgar, where Zack Fair died... Which is actually shown again in Advent Children, with the Buster Sword rusting there. However this new shot establishes that the Buster Sword may now somehow end up forever at the Edge of Creation, which just blows my mind. The shot was amazing.
It’s always scary that as much as Cloud struggled with everyone that that’s not even the real sephiroth. Real one just chilling in the crater with even more power 😱
@Ena Yes his sadness in that scene in Nibelheim is clear. He despairs over why Dr Gast never told him about his identity. In the next scene when Cloud/Zack visit him in the Mansion he has gone completely mad claiming he is an ancient and of course he then proceeds to go on a killing spree. I would say this scene at the end of the remake with Cloud is the most Lucid and coherent we have seen with him and he almost seems remorseful about something. Still its impossible to know what his plans are this time other than they seem to again end with Meteor. Still why give Cloud that cryptic hint if he doesn't want him to stop Meteor. It will be interesting to see if he encounters himself at some point as we know now there are 2 Sephiroth's in this timeline.
@@thesilentcartographer5575 Yeah she's very likeable in the original as well but I think they are laying it on thick because Spoilers She's going to die at some point. „The man could sense the Lifestream trying to erode his spirit- the memories of his former experiences, thoughts and emotions. If he allowed himself be taken into the current, the being he once was would soon disseminate and disappear amongst the spirit energy cycling around the planet. The man thought this unacceptable. The planet was to be his to rule, and to become a part of that system would be nothing short of defeat. The man sensed a large flux in the Lifestream. A sign of another, different defeat. When the Lifestream erupted onto the surface of the planet, the man thought that Cloud was no doubt certain of his victory. Cloud was the one who had twice sent the man into the Lifestream. The man knew that if one could hold onto some core of their spirit, then one could remain a separate entity, independent from the planet’s system. Cloud. The man decided to make Cloud that core. And he wanted to let Cloud know of that. I’m still thinking of you. And I’ll show you the proof of that as well.“ - Black Lifestream Part 1 (from On the Way to a Smile) Giving you some context to this scene.
Man actually gives the “join me” speech to the guy five years after killing his entire village. Basically; “Yeah I killed your village and your mom but hey join me anyways. :)”
That's why Sephiroth says, "Not yet", because clearly Cloud is trying something like Omnislash, and Sephiroth knows he hasn't learned it yet. Looks like he was getting close though towards the middle when he started getting too fast to be seen.
@@Matthew-mo7wh I think it'll be like the OG game and you'll have to win it at the Gold Saucer. We'll most likely have to fight a super boss in the arena there to get it.
MysticSeireitou in the remake in the last fight while he’s dropping the meteor, he keeps using moves that are just numbers. Every time he uses a powerful move it’s a lower number. It was like a count down. Don’t know what happens if he uses zero 😂
Sephiroths switch at 3:13 is some of the slickest ish I've ever seen. Sephiroth is just effortlessly batting Cloud away one-handed like a fly and he just tosses his sword and switches grips in an instant. Cloud is severely outclassed here, he's lucky Sephiroth wants him alive. I can't wait to see how the rest of this will go.
I’m *really* curious to learn what has Sephiroth looking so…resolved at 2:19. He looks like he’s anticipating something great on the horizon, and he’s getting ready to face it. The fact that he isn’t looking at Cloud means he wants to keep this vulnerability close, but the player is able to catch a brief glimpse. Combined with the implication that Cloud is now an essential part of his plan, and he may actually care a bit about his nemesis’s well-being (his voice is so damn soft in the Japanese version of this scene), just adds more levels of intrigue to whatever the heck is up with “Remake”.
Japanese translation changes the whole scene : S : Careful now, S : What lies ahead doesn’t yet exist/has not happened (Cloud’s visions) S : Our World will become a part of it… one day S : I don’t want to disappear/no longer exist S : I also don’t want you to vanish/disappear C : This is? S : The leading edge of the world S: Cloud, I need your strength/power S : We can defy destiny together C : I refuse *Epic Fight* S : too easy S : seven seconds until the end S : But we (you and I) can still make it in time S : Cloud, the future is in your hands/the future is up to you
It’s also interesting to note that in Japanese, Sephiroth uses ‘ore’ in this scene; pronouns he used when he was a friendlier and not corrupted by Jenova’s influence.
@@lefthandrule638 YES! I also *really* want to know why he changed his pronouns up like that! I swear, I’m really excited to see what Sephiroth’s plan is, even if I suspect it’s going to be an emotional gut punch to witness.
"Seven seconds until the end." This scene is the "end of creation", or the end of the original game. But since they have already defied destiny, they are changing the story of the original game. Which means, you have 7 seconds to decide who you are going to save. Aerith? Or Tifa? And Zack, who survived the original, to have defied fate and carried Cloud into Midgar instead of dying on that cliff by Shinra soldier gunfire, will most likely be the one who will be the executioner. "That which lies ahead....does not yet exist." Even the game developers do not know how they are going to write the story, but most likely have scenarios written out. They will see who we save, and create the game according to those results.
Oh boy your choice on picking who to save will be a hard one lol. Interesting theory if it does indeed go there ima have to save tifa no question but man will that be a hard choice.
I really love this idea for the remake. The only problem I have is that its Nomura and theres a 60% chance he'll just make the story worse considering his recent track record.
1:51 Everything about this was just amazing. The beginning of the song: a remix of the city of the ancients. The nod to the ending to original ff7 (seph's smile like he remembers) The scale of his goal now just KO cannon'ed x10 I feel as if this is a Sephiroth from Dissidia. Who knows "the game" and wants to break/get out of it. And back to the music, when the swords start swinging it oozes with impact almost dreadful cause you know youre not gonna beat him like that this time.
I mean... a LOT of Sephiroth's moveset is taken from Dissidia tbh. Telluric Fury, Scintilla, Aeolian Onslaught etc. So I can actually see that being the case in all honesty
I like how that not only you used the buster sword for this scene to make it iconic but also the materia placement on the buster sword is exactly same as some of the live cutscenes
How sephy says the 7 seconds quote so closely to Cloud is frightening. Just like death, it lingers with the inevitable. The uncertainty of when is is all you have to look forward too
Around 2:33, when the music swells as Sephiroth is making Cloud the offer to rule side by side with him, and the disappointment you see in his eyes when Cloud declines..man.. utter perfection.
I half expected Cloud to respond to Sephiroth’s hand saying, ‘I want you to know, I agree with everything you just said. But unfortunately, you did kill my mother.’
It's Advent Children Sephiroth. He only gets a black wing at the final fight between Cloud in AC. I think what is happening here is that we're dealing with a "Thanos" situation. This Sephiroth is the Enlightened Version who has seen things. The "Warrior Sephiroth" that we know from the original is still in Northern Crater.
Holy crap, I finally get it! When Sephiroth says, “Our world will become a part of it... one day”, he’s referring to how this “remake” and its subsequent parts will become part of the original FFVII canon!
Or he traveled back in time to change the future. Think about it, his wing wasn’t black until Advent Children. In Crisis Core it was white, even when fighting Safer Sephiroth it was white. Plus the whispers are entities who prevent “destiny from altering its course” and every time they’re around, it’s when a scene goes entirely different from the original, or someone gets a glimpse into the future. The game is a sequel, not a remake.
@@laynelutz5751 I don't disagree with that theory, but what I'm stating is that Sephiroth is directly explaining that this new game and it's altered events/timeline will come to be canon in the original FFVII universe. This game is not a "remake" nor a remaster. It's a sequel in which Sephiroth from AC is directly affecting the events of the original game: Aerith to some extent as well since she too became a part of the lifestream. If anything, I'm more excited for where the writers intend to take the story. It's my guess that Remake and its sequels will be used to rewrite the events of the original FFVII as to avoid Advent Children and the extinction of humanity 500 years into the future from ever happening. OG FVII's timeline and story was the bad ending. Time to see what the good ending looks like. Aww yeah.
I am also excited to see what will happen with ff7 i will enjoy every change that they will make if i am completly honest even if people say it will kill the feel that the game had if they make big changes like aerith will survive i will be happy just hope they don´t get to much stuff into multiversal stuff that will probabally make the community riot then again we don´t even know if that is a multiverse or even a singularity which would mean that the past would change but then again we don´t see Cloud or any of the party members fade away or get to another place meaning that it is probabally an alternitive universe. This opens up to so many possibilities it actually makes me more exited then if it was a 1 on 1 with some changes and still being in the same lore i welcome change because i actually can see how much thought and work went into this game it just makes me so excited that i want to get part 2 of the ff7 Remake of the story.
Also if you notice, when Zack survived, Stamp was a completely different design, so I think when Barret said, “Stamp will guide us the way.” I think it was the writers way of saying that Stamp is gonna show us which timeline is sinking into which by Stamp being a different design for the corresponding different timeline/universe. Nomura is at it fucking again. Now watch, Kingdom Hearts 3 is gonna turn into FF Versus Xiii, or even Final Fantasy as a whole, and then FF7 is gonna link into that. Because I also need to know how the fuck Diamond Weapon was in FFXV.
@@laynelutz5751 As i said i hope they don´t dive to deep into that but if they change the story only in our universe i am up for it. We still really don´t know the meaning of that maybe it was just to show that events can change and it will be quickly forgoten that alternate universe existed. Also let´s not forget is not like no one from ff7 remake team didn´t see what nomura did and those people have also worked on the original as well meaning that in theory even they wanted to do that.
Keep in mind, this is Tyler Hoechlin’s, Sephiroth’s VA here, first time voice acting and he managed to do a wonderful job here. For a first time voice actor getting a character like Sephiroth is big shoes to fill and he did great with what he was given.
this scene is more advent children then advent children and i absolutely love it, the way the music picks up as cloud rushes to seph, how the music climatically ends with cloud swinging at seph before the scene changes, ugh beautiful
Yeah. I’ve recently started playing Opera Omnia and in that game he acts similarly to how he does here. That and his outfit seems to be altered in a similar fashion. (Because it’s not exactly the same as his og FF7, CC, AC or Smash outfit.) He looks like he came straight outta Dissidia and dimension/time traveled to a past to try and change fate and destiny.
@@DavidGraham221 Interesting that FF7R has Sephiroth’s Dissidia belt, eh? Seriously that belt has only been on him in the Dissidia games. Until the remake.
Its almost if Sephiroth by being with Cloud and even fighting him is feeling some sort of belonging or even a touch of humanity again. Just having him there made him happy.
I definitely think this Sephiroth is the half of him that doesn't wish to be a prisoner to Jenova's power. We will probably fight against the black half of Sephiroth in Rebirth, but in Zack's world, perhaps we will see the white half of Sephiroth. In the japanese dialogue Sephiroth uses a less formal and more friendly greeting toward Cloud, and you also see that Cloud is tormented at the start of the scene, but Sephiroth's touch seems to cure him of that torment. Almost like he's helping Cloud. The nebula on the right I think represents the world as it will be, if Meteor succeeds. I also think (heavy speculation) that perhaps Genesis will be in Rebith, and he will be an obstacle for Aerith and Sephiroth to defeat. Since Genesis, may be protecting the "universe of creation" (the red nebula) from Sephiroth's plan to save the planet by destroying the Whispers. He spells this out pretty clearly "I will not end, nor will I have you end." It seems like he wants to subvert Jenova's will to see the planet destroyed, and sees Cloud as his ticket to achieving that. I would love for Rebirth to let you play as the "white half" of Sephiroth who is trying to stop the fate of the planet from happening, which allows his goals to coincide with Aerith's who wants to save her friends.
Hints that Sephiroth has regained his "Crisis Core" pre-mental breakdown state at the Edge Of Creation : 1. Helps Cloud to stand up. 2. He talks about how he is a part of Jenova so he can't die. 3. But now he doesn't want Cloud to die either, implying that he and the others die at the end. 4. *Asks Cloud to help him* 5. "Let us defy destiny...together." implying that he doesn't like the fate of world, aka Jenova winning at the end. 6. Sees Cloud is distrustful and in no mood of talking at all because of the Present Sephiroth. 7. Defeats Cloud and gives him a warning about the future. I'm completely expecting another talk with Edge Of Creation Sephiroth where he explains his plans to Cloud in Rebirth/Part 3.
What did you think of how he talked about Jenova in recent trailer? Sounds like he is pushing as far away as he can. I still think he has been possessed/strongly influenced etc ever since Nibelheim but that’s just me.
You’re in luck! In trailer he see him with a wing out at EOC. But it’s entirely possible he is just pulling and our expectations in wanting to change etc then for him to fuck us over again but.. as a story that doesn’t have much impact as trying something different.
I like how from 3:00 to 3:10 they recreated the opening battle transition from the final one-on-one battle between Cloud and Sephiroth towards the end if the original.
I feel like the ending puts into a certain perspective just how much of a badass Sephiroth is. Like he’s had several characters wailing on him endlessly for like 10 minutes, and all he does is stagger slightly
The way this fight was set up was a huge call back to the final moments of the FF7 original. I can't be the only one that was expecting Omnislash to come out here. The final duel was set up scene for scene, but it was too early. Cloud simply didn't have the skills to end this like it was meant to end, and so he lost.
While I agree with majority of the comments on Sephiroth being impressive as hell, we can’t sell Cloud short, he was pulling off moves that were hella slick. Mans was tossing his sword around trying to psyche Sephiroth out and he can move faster than the eye can track, Cloud’s got spunk.
Cloud touches his face in agony and Sephiroth interrupts him saying "That which lies ahead does not yet exist." So he has somehow seen it already, no doubt
I love how we get to see Cloud at full power and Sephiroth is just toying with him and barely breaking a sweat I cant wait to see these 2 go at it when we get to the finale Eventually
I heard there was one Let's Player who's also a trained fencer who went into this game blind, when he saw this cutscene his jaw was hanging open because he commented that Sephiroth's blade stance was perfect, there was absolutely no opening in his defense, and he was fighting one-handed as well lol.
to add onto that, as pointed out in another comment in this video, its been widely known that Sephiroth is left-handed, yet he actually fights Cloud with his right for half the fight before switching back
Tarek Elnicklawy Sephiroth isn’t an Ancient my guy, he was misinformed and thought he was thanks to professer Gast. He’s a science experiment gone wrong, an abomination if you will
I think when he literally grabbed clouds hand remember in advantage children his flashes with geostigma? Shinras building hadn't come down yet. He also knew the exact amount of time it would take from the last time he was actually hit by cloud in the life stream. It takes seven seconds to actually strike him 13 times.
I know people have pointed out several tidbits before but stuff I noticed: - The panning and zoom in before the fight begins (where they are standing across from each other) is almost 1:1 with OG FF7 - The camera flashes between the two the same amount of times (8) with near 1:1 angles/positions and cadence (one flash for Cloud; one for Seph; a set of 3 going Cloud, Seph, Cloud; a set of 3 going Seph, Cloud, Seph) - Instead of zooming out from Sephiroth on the last shot to position the camera behind Cloud (making Sephiroth the focal point), the camera rotates around to position itself behind Sephiroth (making Cloud the focal point) - Sephiroth deflects the first 7 swings right handed and then switches to his left when Cloud tries the mix up - Cloud swings at Sephiroth 15 times (OG FF7's Omnislash hits 15 times, ACC Omnislash seems to hit 14, ACC Omnislash-V6 hits 15 times) - Whether this is supposed to be Cloud's Omnislash or not, the parallels are definitely there. If anything it looks like a proto-Omnislash because it lacks that iconic overhead finisher and technically Cloud shouldn't know Omnislash this early but screw the timeline I guess. Part of the difference may also be because of the discrepancies in their strength, considering Sephiroth keeps slapping Cloud 10 feet away, and that Cloud normally performs this at the end of the game when he's presumably much stronger and more experienced - I think the discrepancy between the clash sounds when Cloud is attacking and when Sephiroth strikes the buster sword out of Cloud's hand is deliberate and serves to further reinforce the notion that Sephiroth wasn't even trying - And then you've got the music, which contains the melody from City of the Ancients. It's definitely significant because music in this game is a very important story-telling device (the presence of OWA in several songs, a portion of Birth of A God within the song that plays when you infiltrate Shinra to rescue Aerith and Barret falls off the van, the Whisper's theme within OWA ReBirth).
People bash this game so hard for not following the original’s story... but I kinda like this. They destroyed the Whispers of Fate so everything that happens now is unpredictable. We could very well end up with an entirely different storyline than the original FF7... and that’s totally okay. Change is good when done right and so far, this seems pretty intriguing. Having Sephiroth know what’s going to happen and actively work to fuck up the timeline as much as possible so he’ll win is great and the story given here is more in-depth so far than the original. People need to stop bitching and see what they do with this new story going forward.
Having aerith and red tell you that the visions in the arbiters fight are of what happens if they "fail" doesn't completely write of the original either. If this does take a different path both will be cannon
They could do this without the ghost plots. When they decide to miracle revert ALL meaninful deaths they Will not have the same impact, because I know at this point the dying in this game doesn"t mean too much
My theory about the remake is this: that it is a remake but also a sequel. The ghosty-spirit things I think is literally fate trying to intervene and ensure everything happens the way that its supposed to happen: that people die when they should, things happen and take place when and where that they should and so on. Sephiroth, because he has gone on through the lifestream, and the OG ff7 game kind of inferring that everything is a cycle and that fate is something that exists, knows what will happen, how he will fail as well as how wrong he was in his previous (during the events of ff7) assumption that he is some sort of god and the rightful ruler of the planet. The main party is completely reactionary, just like during OG ff7, but sephiroth I think is trying to change it, trying to change things so he doesn't die and so he doesn't unleash METEOR and WEAPONs which destroy/fuck up the world. He knows what happened in the original FF7 and he is trying to prevent it. The fact that biggs and jesse survived (as well as wedge, but fate "corrected" that) to me, shows that what has been set in motion in this game contradicts the "fate" of the original game.

Seph: Off topic but, how good are you at digging holes?
Cloud: what?
Seph: Aside from the one you just made for yourself
Sephiroth’s gonna end up burning down another town again, but by complete accident this time
At this point in the story Sephiroth is simply on a different level.
Sephiroth is in an entirely different timeline and made it look easy.
😂
I respect those who played with the buster sword !
To be fair, the Buster Sword is one of the better weapons for Cloud, especially cause of how balanced it is.
Who wouldn't use the buster sword?
@@Captain_Blue_Balls Iron Blade has the Trade Off skill, which can be useful for keeping up MP while in hard mode, but I gotta agree that the other weapons aren't very useful. Nail Bat seems to be a crit weapon, but it's base stats are so abyssmal that it's barely worth investing in.
@@Captain_Blue_Balls
I mean once you learn all their special abilities of every weapon it's kind of ridiculous not to use the buster sword at the end.
The most terrifying thing is that Seph barely moves from where he is and when does he disarms Cloud with a single blow

@@EmberwindTale well istaro, he was trying to use omniaslash in this fight

Sephiroth actually seemed a bit hurt when Cloud turned him down, he loses that confident smirk for a moment, before he takes his stance.
That One Guy I was just thinking this was like Star Wars “join the dark side”, Luke and Darth Vader except he isn’t his father lol
Nah. Sephs been playing him since the title screen. Everything Sephiroth has said or done up to that point seems to imply that he already knows what Cloud will do.

What about Zack
@Ahmad Adnan lls
Cloud knows the feeling
(Think Doctor Doom from Fantastic Four fame.)
Whatever the case, Cloud is simply wiser -- or perhaps more vengeful -- than we are. Because he didn't even TRY to take Sephiroth's offer. It's another reminder why he's probably the greatest protagonist in FF history.
He killed Cloud’s mother and everyone in his hometown.
I feel everyone's sleeping on the brilliant rendition of The Forgotten Capital theme song.

Yeah, it's also mixed in with the music from when cloud and Tifa fell into the lifestream and cloud was in a coma. This music was purposefully chosen to show that cloud and sephiroth are fighting in the lifestream right now.

The joys of the butterfly effect.
Everyone bringing up the “seven seconds” line about Aeriths death and how it relates to the time it takes to kill her, and I’m all like: They’re playing the music of the place where she died. This is exactly what he’s talking about.
Omg i hope your right
@Owenboy360 "In a world beyond, Sephiroth shows Cloud a vision of the planet seven seconds before it's demise."
Meteor is not mentioned in the logs.
You can choose omnislash to attack first or let seph attack and then you just do a regular attack to win
This time though feels like there’s a choose your own adventure going on with a consequence for your choice to attack or be attacked
That’s your seven seconds ‘til the end
Aerith’s life/death is not “the end” he’s talking about
I totally thought the 7 seconds for Sephiroth’s descent into killing Aerith was debunked, but then I realized the Temple of the Ancients theme got remixed and is totally playing in the scene. We’re gonna save her! But we might doom the planet in doing so 😭
In the original translation “but what will you do with it" line is quite different to the Japanese line where he says ”but we can still make it in time, the future is up to you, cloud.” I reckon the meaning is somewhat different.
Y'all... the way Sephiroth just dodges Cloud's attacks with the sword over his shoulder. My fucking God. He's so cool
My take on this is that Sephiroth needs Cloud to save Aerith because her death is ultimately what stopped him. However, once Aerith realizes this, she will decide that she needs to die in order to stop Sephiroth. Shock value for her death goes up. Hope given. Hope stripped away.
I seriously hope the production team does something with this idea. I'm 100% in the camp that Aerith knew she had to die for the planet to be saved.
I remember when cloud and Aerith meet for the first time and sephiroth puts a hand on her shoulder and tells cloud “you can’t save no one, not even yourself” shit is getting real
Aertih knew she going to die, she not even tried to stop it in old FF7
In the ending it says "The UNKNOWN journey will continue". I think SE is probably going to change the course of destiny for Aerith from the original.

3:14 (jump and 4th hit)
3:18 (high jump and 5th hit)
3:20 (6th but Sephiroth evade it, while cloud throws his sword to the air)
3:21 (jump and catch his sword then do the 7th hit)
3:26 (do a fake attack switching to the other side of Sephiroth for the 8th hit)

I love how Sephiroth’s words show that he recognises Cloud as an equal, and that Sephiroth knows he can only hope to succeed with Cloud by his side. This scene makes me wonder what would have happened if Cloud had taken Sephiroth’s hand.
@1:50
For me personally, this is the most epic moment in video game history. The way the music kicks in, how cloud refuses Sephiroth's hand, the fight that ensues afterward. After 23 years the modern depiction of this scene is really the stuff you can only dream of. You can tell they built the soundtrack to fit the scene not the other way around. Just pure perfection.
You can even see Cloud briefly consider his offer.

Me, a man of taste: uses a baseball bat

@Charles Brown AC has always been canon
AC is canon
@Charles Brown Ff7 remake is filled with Easter eggs and homages to the compilation
Just to name a few
While remake isn't following the compilation to a tee, it is using elements of it to flesh out the world off ff7 imo a better way than the compilation did its self for og.

Y'all crazy. I loved George's voice for Sephiroth, but new boi puts so much more oomph into it. Not the singular tone that George used.
That's what I love about the new guy. The old cast sounds like they're right out of Kingdom Hearts, monotone, slow and stilted most of the time. I know it's due to the directing but still. These new peeps sound like they can give the ham and cheese.

WHY IS THIS CUTSCENE SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL, I CAN'T STOP WATCHING THIS MANY TIMES NOW, ITS TOO DAMN PERFECT!!!!
Japanese translation changes the whole scene :

S : What lies ahead doesn’t yet exist/has not happened (Cloud’s visions)
S : Our World will become a part of it… one day
S : I don’t want to disappear/no longer exist
S : I also don’t want you to vanish/disappear
C : This is?
S : The leading edge of the world
S: Cloud, I need your strength/power
S : We can defy destiny together
C : I refuse

S : seven seconds until the end
S : But we (you and I) can still make it in time
S : Cloud, the future is in your hands/the future is up to you

@@lefthandrule638 YES! I also *really* want to know why he changed his pronouns up like that! I swear, I’m really excited to see what Sephiroth’s plan is, even if I suspect it’s going to be an emotional gut punch to witness.
"Seven seconds until the end."
This scene is the "end of creation", or the end of the original game.
What made you think this?
Needs to be aerith because of the lifestream

I feel as if this is a Sephiroth from Dissidia. Who knows "the game" and wants to break/get out of it.
And back to the music, when the swords start swinging it oozes with impact almost dreadful cause you know youre not gonna beat him like that this time.

3:36 In japanese Dub Seph says "Karuina", wich means "Too light", he is talking about Cloud atacks being too weak lol
That's strange how Sephiroth seem to become complexly wise on that edge of creation, like, something has changed in his perception or philosophy.
This probably has to due with the theory that this is a sephiroth that already experienced the events of final fantasy 7
@@binet1970 I mean that's pretty much 100% confirmed
What is the edge of creation?
He is partially merged with the lifestream by this point. He probably has access to all kinds of knowledge, even that of the Whispers.
I still love it how he shape-shifts through reality to attack him and feint to the other side only for it to be blocked. 😂

Hints that Sephiroth has regained his "Crisis Core" pre-mental breakdown state at the Edge Of Creation :
1. Helps Cloud to stand up.
2. He talks about how he is a part of Jenova so he can't die.
3. But now he doesn't want Cloud to die either, implying that he and the others die at the end.
4. *Asks Cloud to help him*
It's like Sephiroth broke the 4th wall in this game and opted out of the initial timeline.
He became ...
Self aware
I like how from 3:00 to 3:10 they recreated the opening battle transition from the final one-on-one battle between Cloud and Sephiroth towards the end if the original.
I feel like the ending puts into a certain perspective just how much of a badass Sephiroth is. Like he’s had several characters wailing on him endlessly for like 10 minutes, and all he does is stagger slightly
And then preceedes to block omnislash effortlessly and beat cloud without so much as breaking a sweat

Tarek Elnicklawy Sephiroth isn’t an Ancient my guy, he was misinformed and thought he was thanks to professer Gast. He’s a science experiment gone wrong, an abomination if you will
@@magicalgirl4 or like Genesis put it “A perfect monster”
I think when he literally grabbed clouds hand remember in advantage children his flashes with geostigma? Shinras building hadn't come down yet. He also knew the exact amount of time it would take from the last time he was actually hit by cloud in the life stream. It takes seven seconds to actually strike him 13 times.
I love that they left us in the dark.. we have NO IDEA what to anticipate.
I know people have pointed out several tidbits before but stuff I noticed:
- The panning and zoom in before the fight begins (where they are standing across from each other) is almost 1:1 with OG FF7
- The camera flashes between the two the same amount of times (8) with near 1:1 angles/positions and cadence (one flash for Cloud; one for Seph; a set of 3 going Cloud, Seph, Cloud; a set of 3 going Seph, Cloud, Seph)
- Instead of zooming out from Sephiroth on the last shot to position the camera behind Cloud (making Sephiroth the focal point), the camera rotates around to position itself behind Sephiroth (making Cloud the focal point)
- Sephiroth deflects the first 7 swings right handed and then switches to his left when Cloud tries the mix up
- Cloud swings at Sephiroth 15 times (OG FF7's Omnislash hits 15 times, ACC Omnislash seems to hit 14, ACC Omnislash-V6 hits 15 times)
- Whether this is supposed to be Cloud's Omnislash or not, the parallels are definitely there. If anything it looks like a proto-Omnislash because it lacks that iconic overhead finisher and technically Cloud shouldn't know Omnislash this early but screw the timeline I guess. Part of the difference may also be because of the discrepancies in their strength, considering Sephiroth keeps slapping Cloud 10 feet away, and that Cloud normally performs this at the end of the game when he's presumably much stronger and more experienced
- I think the discrepancy between the clash sounds when Cloud is attacking and when Sephiroth strikes the buster sword out of Cloud's hand is deliberate and serves to further reinforce the notion that Sephiroth wasn't even trying
- And then you've got the music, which contains the melody from City of the Ancients. It's definitely significant because music in this game is a very important story-telling device (the presence of OWA in several songs, a portion of Birth of A God within the song that plays when you infiltrate Shinra to rescue Aerith and Barret falls off the van, the Whisper's theme within OWA ReBirth).
3:00 that moment where cloud says “never.” Bittersweet! Childhood hero and potential protege.
Dork. Its 2:52
@@Jk-zv6tz Well, you're not wrong.
Is there actually someone who dont like this change? Its amazing imo.
They could do this without the ghost plots. When they decide to miracle revert ALL meaninful deaths they Will not have the same impact, because I know at this point the dying in this game doesn"t mean too much
@@aloneinthelight7754 dying? We don't do that here.
@@aloneinthelight7754 you are still at lv1.
The detail in this game was amazing. They literally design the hamon forge line on Sephiroths Masamune. Beautiful
