Happy Thursday! Thank you for watching... I'm experimenting with content a little bit here; this video's quite different to my usual format. I'd love to know your opinion, so please let me know below! There's no wrong answer :) We have a very traditional true crime case next week! And it's one I doubt you've ever heard of! LINKS BELOW: John Allan Chau's instagram: instagram.com/johnachau/?hl=en John Allan Chau's Blog: theruggedtrail.wordpress.com/ (PS: Please don't go to North Sentinel Island 😨)
I grew up in a Christian home, and I was always told that "God can't protect those who will not protect themselves. He gave humans common sense for a reason." I think this guy slept during that Bible class...
Pro Tip: if you want to understand an uncontacted tribe, calling them "satan's last stronghold" is a strong indication you should not be allowed anywhere near them.
Can we acknowledge that the tribe didn’t kill John the first two times he showed up, which goes against the idea that they are violent and dangerous, but like you said, just acting in self-defense.
A group of people who routinely shoot fish with arrows in the wild- no way they “accidentally” stuck the book he was holding. They could not make the warning any clearer.
They wanted to drive him off and let him go when he left. But that third time he refused to go, so they killed him before he could make them sick, like what happened to their ancestors.
The Sentinelese laughing at John trying to communicate with them gave me a bit of a chuckle. It's clear they have no desire to communicate with the outside world, otherwise they would've done it by now.
It's unfortunate he died, but he was given several warnings. Leave people be, don't force your faith onto others, and don't keep going back to a place you know is dangerous. Especially when the people have made it clear they don't want you around. Thanks for covering the case, it's really cool to learn that there is still a truly wild place in the world
I don't understand why people cannot accept that the Sentinelese want to be left alone. In a lot of ways they have a better lifestyle than the modern world. Certainly, their general health is probably better. They want to be left alone - leave them alone! As for a Christian guy wanting to convert them. Well, look at the harm that has been done by religious missionaries to native communities the world over for centuries. It is annoying that people have to push their views or beliefs on others instead of just accepting other peoples beliefs and that those people are happy as they are. As far as I am concerned, religious beliefs are a personal and individual issue, not much different from your favourite colour, RUclips channel, music and so on. No one would like to be told that they have to like a certain colour, watch certain channels, listen to certain music. The same goes for religion. What you believe is your personal choice. If the world would recognise that instead of forcing whole communities to change their beliefs then we might start to see a lit bit more peace. Acceptance is the key.
@@LittleNed2004 their general health is better? what's their life expectancy compared to mainland India? Because I haven't see any elderly there, have you? and what did the missionaries did all over the world that was so bad? stopped tribes from murdering people that were born with congenital defects? boohoo stop expecting these people to be a circus attraction so you can feel good about yourself. they're just as human as you are, they deserve the same things you do
@@stevenmacaulay8807 thats.... they, don't know that kind of concept, as of yet. "the right to". or the concept of "murder" (killing people outside of self defense being a crime. or the concept of crime itself tbh). they haven't be given the oportunity yet. it's hard to judge by this parameters
I told this story to one of my Christian friends. He looked me dead in the eyes and said, "At least he died doing the right thing." There was too much for me to address in that statement that I had to back out of the conversation for the sake of my mental well being. People out there really think that their way is the only way, and it's disgusting.
Personally, I don't feel bad for John. He knew the dangers going in, he had 2 previous encounters with them, 1 of which had him almost get shot with an arrow. He knew he should leave or risk being killed. He got everything he asked for
I agree. He did himself in on that. He was being selfish with his actions thinking he was doing a good deed, not realizing that “good deed” may not come off as such to people who do not understand it nor accept it. He had to learn the hard way and in a sense I believe that it had to end this way for him as if to send a warning to others who may consider doing the same later.
It still sucks for his loved ones though. Religion is a disease and it never saves anyone. John could've taken the first warning shot of his bible as a sign from god. Instead he chose to follow what many religious people do "Give me a sign, no not that one. I'll just do what I want and call it god's will...."
@@TRUTHx247 agree history is littered with stories of indigenous cultures across the globe who were doing just fine until do-gooder religious folk decided to “save” them.
Like obviously it’s a tragedy and all that… but I personally find it hard to feel bad for someone who died for meddling in something they absolutely shouldn’t have. He had a very special type of entitlement and he did paid the price.
I'm not in the habit of mocking or getting a laugh at victims of murder and assault, but there were some good meme came out right after old John got himself killed playing missionary.
I hate it that he thinks he has the right and authority to force himself into their culture because of Jesus. All in all, that is just an excuse for him to experience his island fantasies. So yeah, I don't feel bad that he died because what was he expecting? That he is the chosen one for these people?
@Gifted Fox really pissed me off when I heard he considered the island "the last stronghold of Satan on earth". Like bro, how about the Vatican? There's a satanic stronghold for ya
@@giftedfox4748 being a self absorbed lunatic must be a hell of a dr*g! The island was Satan's last stronghold..like dude 😂 John got what he deserved and what he wanted.
@@giftedfox4748 it’s a very special brand of volunteerism and savior/god complex. He also gave zero shits if he genocided them with his modern day diseases. Looked upon in that light I would argue he’s a monster and it’s better for the world that he’s no longer able to attempt to carry out his delusions
But that's the way of Christian missionaries, ain't it? Bring your myths over to groups of people who don't believe, whether they want it or not. Right? So, it's not like he's in the minority with this delusional thinking that he needs to 'save the indigenous' from themselves.
The story of John will never be tragic to me. Dude acted like an absolute moron, give him the Darwin Award of that year - maybe that decade. He was warned plenty of times and decided to listen to no one - including the people he was trying to 'save from the Devil'.
My thoughts exactly. The arrogance of thinking he could 'save' people by invading their peace is astounding. He probably thought of himself as a martyr at the end. Sickening.
Unless there's tragedy in being raised to be a missionary, nothing too tragic. I've got no sympathy for those who think it's a good idea to force their religion onto others, regardless of intent.
This is one of my favorite stories of how arrogance can lead to death, he arrogantly called it "Satan's last stronghold" which let's you know he arrogantly thought very highly of himself and he has delusions of grandeur that he was some sort of warrior of God on a mission. I think he 100% got what he deserved in my opinion, he had no business interfering with them
I don’t believe he deserved to die, I believe his ignorance and lack of respect is his final legacy. I’m not religious but to think it’s “gods will” knowing you might die doing the “lords work “ is senseless and unstable. No book is worth dying for
I don't understand why people can't leave these people alone. They don't need to be taught our ways. All we need to do is look at what people did to so many indigenous tribes around the globe. We don't need to understand them, we need to respect their wishes and let them live the way they choose. Also Adrian, great story. I think it's great to have a different type of story thrown in there. At least this one isn't about evil murderers, just people defending their home.
Christians, well, some Christians, believe that God has called them to save the souls of "savages". Echoes of European colonists in days gone by, bringing "civilisation" and Christianity. It's terribly unchristian, nothing but vanity and self-pride.
Shoot if they knew what happened to the rest of the indigenous people of this land, they would definitely attack from far away, and honestly, I can't blame them one bit! Most of us humans don't know or respect boundaries smh
Couldn't agree more. History would only repeat itself if we decided to intrude on them and violate their sovereignty like what happened in the Americas following the landing of Columbus
This should be shown to all “missionaries”. The condescension they possess thinking they know better than the people they are trying to “save”. Maybe they’re happy with their lifestyles? These people are so delusional.
I don’t blame them for not wanting outsiders to come on their island. All we do we bring sickness and violence. I’m sure they either heard stories or experiences diseases outsiders brought into their villages killing them all because they have different immune systems and no vaccines. Leave them alone, I honestly do not feel bad for anyone who has been attacked visiting a island they were told not too and is dangerous. 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ great video as always! Very well spoken and well researched ✨
I'm sure they will be relieved to know they are forgiven, perhaps the mom should go back to get her son who is still alive, and also let them know they are forgiven. It sounds as wise as her son's repeated attempts 😉
What an incredibly dumb thing to have done. Also extremely arrogant and and patronizing to believe that he would be able to communicate and live amongst them. Earnestly believing that he was saving them from eternal damnation in hell he sealed his own fate. Honestly I hate to say this but.........he got exactly what he deserved.
@@paulwright6015 yeah it's wild how much faith in some religions inflates one's sense of self. They literally see themselves as saviors. So self-absorbed and sanctimonious.
There are a lot of things left out of this video. In their living memory the Sentinelese experienced war by colonial powers over their island and numerous outbreaks of deadly diseases from repeated attempts at contact. They have apparently salvaged the Primrose and are using metal tools now. They do occasionally trade with the South Sentinelese but even that's not a good idea. They have been seeing ships for 200 years and know that they are just big boats the outsiders have. They most likely assume that planes, satellites, and space stations are also outsider vehicles. They are people and they're smart. They know that contact means strange technology as well as devastating plagues, and have rightly concluded that it's better to stay isolated. They are fascinating and it would be nice to know them better but we ruined any chance at that long ago. Missionary work is inherently unethical at least and plain evil at worst. This guy knew what he was doing and got what he deserved. Imagine calling people "Satan's last stronghold". What an ass.
I really hate how people see them and go like "oh they need to be included in the world and civilised", it's such a coloniser mindset, revolting. Cultures have their own value and they should be left alone.
I saw a documentary on this Island. It seems there was an Anthropologist Professor who spent years taking trips to the Island. He started by sailing around the Island every few months. Then he would do that but would send floating packages towards the tribesmen. Pretty soon his assistant, who was female, actually was able to go ashore and there are pictures of her with the Islanders and even hugging a few children. But then the man retired, his research stopped and that was the end of that which I found to be too bad as the North Sentinelese probably thought they had been abandoned as the professor's cautious approach had been over many years.
Boo hoo. They are not zoo animals or some entertaining research project for the Caucasians. They’re human beings with bills to pay, children and/or pets to feed. The professor and assistant were just passing by. They’re booked and busy with their hunting and gathering chores
Ya always get those sorts of people who ignore the warnings cud they think they're special and will be alright! Fuck em, if anyone ignore the warnings and still go!
No kidding. Native’s lost almost everything they had and their way of life. Here’s ONE island that they have left and people STILL think they can go there and “teach them a better way”. People are so ridiculously full of themselves it’s ridiculous. Just leave them alone.
The biggest mystery here is how did these natives get the government to leave them alone when the rest of us can't it get it done with power, money, love nor threats.
Because America is a company built on greed lust power and entitlement once you elected people to power you think they want to lose it no the reason those people left alone is because America is a sovereign Nation built on the things I just stated before other countries are trying to emulate America however some underdeveloped countries no that those people there can't afford to pay taxes cuz they don't have any money 🤔🤔🤔👌👌🙏🙏🙏
Unfortunate that he died but realistically he was asking for it. Feeling like he needs to convert people to his way of thought and treat them asi if they need his guidance. Ita a problem that I have with all missionaries. (Especially early ones. Killed thousands) love this style of video Adrian. Keep it up
Yet people do it all the time, most often without an official religion these days. It's politics people try to force down your throats now, no matter how insane or unscientific their beliefs are. And if you disagree, for example, "hey, maybe don't have men in women's sports" they'll attack you relentlessly.
One of my fondest memories involved some missionaries who had knocked on my door when I was maybe late teens and they started off with asking me "Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years time?" and I immediately said "In the orbit of the sun." and the sheer look of confusion on both of their faces as they tried to process it was fucking hilarious. Must've been like 10 seconds of confused silence before they tried to continue their pitch and just told them I'm agnostic and might one day find out they made the right call on worship but until then I wasn't interested.
That’s the difference between spirituals that respect natives like roots, the later prey on them along with Judas, because believe Adam and Eve were first and the rest are property to be be converted. They don’t respect you if they try to change you! Along with terror that’s something else.
Imagine being kidnapped by an alien, then return with an unknown disease that killed our relatives, we would most definitely tell a story about a deadly evil alien race.
@Democratic FBI Yea, let's bring in some racism, good idea ... And don't tell anything else, all 3 comments shown from you in different comment sections always contain "poor WHITE". Whites where never poor, they never got stolen or where forced to be slaves.
Especially when with such a small population, probably the rare disease, like they gave them, ripples through the community and goes extinct as it doesn't have time to mutate and basically they otherwise don't have experience with disease. Probably think it's some kind of witchcraft.
I will never in my life be able to understand why people would think it beneficial, okay, useful or needed...EVER...to take people away from their native home! I can't fathom it!
If you mean the man who kidnapped the two adults and four children, not that I am defending him cause it was damn stupid, but I am sure his goal was to try and convince the people he took he was not going to hurt them, while also causing the rest of the tribe to rally to look for them. That way when he returned he could set them free and they can vouch for him, and he's found the rest of the tribe through faking an emergency. This, of course, is incredibly stupid.
@@Kris-wo4pj I don't want to fully reveal my plans, but John wasn't deferential enough at first. I'll deliver gifts for a few weeks and also a small ice maker with a generator. Then I will build them a giant ice machine in the jungle and become part of their society
as an Indian, im glad to see this island being covered by one of my favourite youtubers. imo you should make more videos like these, focusing on the larger picture more and not just criminal cases.
I agree! I've cut back on watching true crime bc it sucks the soul from one after a while. You do such a great job describing places, and this was interesting, informative, and mysterious. Please do more like this!
While preparing for my government job exams, I got to learn about Sentinelese more. This led me to the works of the philanthropist, Triloknath Pandit who had undertaken several visits to that land. The fact is that the government of India had made several efforts to contact them and establish friendly relationship with them. But they show their desire to be left alone. What happened to John was sad but he ignored every warning. Even the Aboriginal tribes act clearly prohibits any human intervention in that area.
Thank you for sharing this, I am now going to look into Triloknath Pandit. I hope we are moving towards a time where modern societies stop trying to modernise traditional people. We've lived for hundreds of years in an age of colonisation, from the Romans to the British Empire, assuming that the colonisers way of life is the better and bending people to adopt their religion and way of life, but we are now seeing a movement of Aboriginal people who are being educated and shown the modern world turning their backs and preferring their traditional lives. We need to find a better balance of offering things like modern medicine and education without demanding acceptance of all modern living. I have read a couple stories of Amazonian young adults going to cities to get educated in everything from Law to Agriculture so that they can take that knowledge back to their tribes, and I think that is something that should be more praised and encouraged. Papua New Guinea is a mess right now because of the imbalance of trying to modernise deeply tribal people, a lot of whom would have preferred to be left alone. Modern society needs to end its God complex. These people don't need Jesus, they need peace and if they find their peace in being left alone, then leave them alone.
@@katecarlisle8383 Jesus is what they're running away. Keep that to yourself and leave people alone. They don't have any religion and no one saved them but them.
What intrigues me the most about this tribe is their literature. How did their tragic encounters with outsiders changed their story telling? How did the modern things they see in the sky and sea, the boats, the planes, the trash that wash up on shore were interpreted? What they think of the outsiders they've seen recently? It's so fascinating.
To them we are most likely destroyers and death bringers. Maybe they have stories that go from generation to generation about danger of having contact with us and death/desease that almost killed them by doing so.
I was thinking about this too! They were probably in contact with the other tribes of the Andaman Islands until the British took over. (The Onge tribe has a name for them but by the time anyone thought the bring Onge people there, they couldn't understand the dialect Sentinelese spoke.) So they probably think they are the last bastion of freedom from the rule of those Invaders. It'd be fascinating to know what the children returned to the island told the others about "civilization". I can't imagine how strange everything would be, especially through the eyes of a child watching their elders die. We must be the boogey men of their children's nightmares. And if convicts and drunk fisherman wash up on the beach sometimes, maybe they are correct in thinking it's best to shoot first and ask questions later. I am Catholic and though I am not practicing anymore, we hold that the souls of those who die without ever knowing of Jesus (like people born before He was born in Bethlehem) do not go to Hell nor Heaven. I think God is protecting them. Certainly the reef has for centuries. And who put the reef there if not God or a god?
The sense of entitlement John Allen Chau displayed really makes me sick. "Last bastion of Satan" is such a cruel way to describe the sentinelese people. Hopefully some day peaceful contact and communication can be made, but that isn't today.
RIght?? I heard about this incident in the news when it happened and while I didn't feel sorry for him then, I had never heard of the "last bastion of satan" statement. That just pisses me off. Serves him right. So many actually depraved places on earth and you have to go and meddle in the affairs of 50,000 year old culture that's just minding their own business. You don't seem the Sentinelese starting wars and expropriating resources from the poor or destroying the environment but they need to saved. The arrogance.
I mean to be fair they are willing to murder anyone that's an outsider. They definitely aren't peaceful at all. I don't think they're good people, that being said I also think they should be left to their own devices. If you don't visit them, they won't seek you out to hurt you and they shouldn't be referred to as such a thing as "The last bastion of Satan"
I hope so too and rightfully acknowledge that her son was the one who needs to be held accountable for his foolish and dangerous actions and not these innocent people who never asked to be introduced or brainwashed by his version of religion. Leave them alone. They are clearly doing just fine without “Jesus”
They are way too far up their own ass. “Forgive” them??? So arrogant and self righteous. They’re from Alabama. They are fully aware of the concept of castle law…..trespass, get shot. Not just the delusion he’s still alive, but the delusion he wasn’t the victim of his own arrogance and stupidity
@@free2saywhatever For sure, even if Jesus himself stood on front of him and said "Don't go." He'd still go. That's how some people are. Then they blame God or Jesus or other people for whatever bad thing that follows.
They probably had previous contact with colonizers before the first recorded instance, and then they get their children kidnapped and returned while ill with a contagious sickness they have no idea how to fight. I honestly hope they can live their entire existence without any outside contact.
Facts. My country , a Muslim majority since the 10th century, was colonised for almost 3 decades by the English. Our resources stolen, women raped, men killed, rulers usurped and land taken away by British colonisers. A visit to our local museum only brings alot of pain for me. I wish they never came to our shores. We are still recovering from the I'll effects of their unwelcome time here.
@@alyahamzah1952 As a citizen of a country that was also colonized by the English for over 2 centuries, I sympathize with you. I too wish they had never arrived on our shores.
I've heard of this island, mostly that it was dangerous, but didnt know the "history" behind it. I love that you are doing some of these other types of stories! Also Azrael says "meow" to Nero
I remember when that fruit loop pulled that stunt. I couldn't believe that he went through with his insane idea. I think the guy was mental. Only someone with serious issues would ever think to do something so extremely stupid. These people aren't like anyone on earth and want to be left alone. They probably have no idea how many people are on this planet, especially dumb white guys who think they are just going to change them overnight and throw the ways of the rest of the world in their lap.
That's a great way to put it: I feel sorry for his family and they have my sympathy. John Allen however, does not get a single ounce of pity from me, instead he has earned my outright disdain
It's not just about privacy though is it? Their very lives are at stake because people who should know better go glory hunting to satisfy their own selfish agendas.
This was very interesting! The fact that they laughed at John when he repeated their chants make me curious as to what those chants meant? Maybe they laughed because he mispronounced everything? Or maybe the chant was "go away or we will kill you!" and so when John shouted it back they laughed wondering how one man could threaten them in their own language. Something to think about.
exactly what I thought. Copying their sentenses without knowing the meaning highlights his ignorance. If he copied taunts, it would have the exact opposite effect.
I've heard this story a few times. But i'm sure plenty people in your audience haven't, and you covered it well. I think you should keep doing these kind of videos alongside your usual true crime content.
This is the third time I have heard about John. Let add a little bit more that wasn't in the video. His father, friends, and a few chruch members know of the island TOLD him to stay away. He refuses to listen because his church paster? leader? (don't know which one told him) it was a good idea to go to island to save their souls. The fisherman wasn't the only one who told him it was a bad idea cause some locals heard and agreed don't go to that island.
I appreciate the occasional branching out from true crime. It can get tiresome to shoehorn yourself into a box with the same kind of content all the time so I respect you for taking a risk to do something a little different! And this video in particular was great! I minored in Anthropology in University and I remember learning about this tribe in my classes.
I really appreciate when true crime content creators take a break from the darkness from true crime but continue to give us content. Not that this video wasn't dark, because it was but you get my meaning!! I hope anyway. Lol
I know this is completely off topic but, to the person who designed your background- I absolutely love how the sleeping kitty is breathing, and steam from the kettle :)
"They DESERVE their Privacy!" And for me that includes NOT gawking at them as if they were a zoo exhibit! It's enough that contact with other inhabitants of this planet WOULD KILL THEM! And past contact resulted in someone's daughter, children, & father BEING KIDNAPPED! Wouldn't you pass that down as a cautionary tale to others of your kind? They're only protecting themselves & clearly wish to be left alone. For the sake of THEIR LIVES, RESPECT THAT! Love from Arkansas 💙
@@mattr.1887 Imagine SARS-2 (the virus behind COVID-19) having made it to their island. They'd all have died out. Love subjects like this. It’s one of those “places you shouldn’t go but you went anyways “ idea. It’s enough with our world losing privacy of our own. Let them keep theirs .

Kinda feel like the arrow going through the bible was God's way of going "I see you, I see what you're trying to do, and I appreciate it. Please stop. Here's your second chance. Go home." Usually I come here for true crime, but this was an excellent presentation of the island's history with outsiders. Please do continue making vids like this one! Always glad to listen to your delightful voice.
I remember this story, and can't say I was at all surprised to hear that John is most likely deceased. May he RIP. Fascinating that there are any truly isolated people left on earth.
It's amazing there's still a place like this. I don't think anyone should ever attempt making contact. I think they should be left alone. We don't need to dominate every single place on earth. Let alone this place. I enjoyed this today's content!
After the many times I’ve heard the John Chau story, I find it harder and harder to feel sorry for him Edit: I honestly thought this was an unpopular opinion that only me and my friend had about Chau, I’m glad everyone unanimously agrees he messed up 😂
Agreed! His need to force his religion upon these people who are simply just living their lives. Believe what you want, but Christians always trying to force their religion on others is awful.
@@tombo416 he was worse than dumb, he was a stubborn jerk who didn't care if he hurt people so long as he did what HE wanted. A religious extremist who absolutely got his just desserts.

And this is coming from an obsessed true crime junkie! So I vote yes for more content like this! But at the end of the day, whatever you put out I’ll watch lmao bc you never fail to deliver! ❤
I might be in the minority but I personally still want the content to cover real stories not myths/conspiracies or other stories that aren’t confirmed to be real.
I think it would be great if you did more of these. Its great to learn what goes on around the world. I myself find it very interesting how other people live and what goes on in this planet we call home.
I have visited Adaman and Nicobar Island few years ago, major touristic islands are Neil and Havelock. When you land in Port Blair airport there is a special huge information sign, says you cannot visit MULTIPLE islands, i think you even need to sign agreement. This story in 2018 just happened few days after my trip, it was all over news in India 😳
I don't think it's right to say he had no malicious intent when he described them as "the last hold Satan has on the world", he did not respect these people, did not consider or care about the fact that they did not want to be interfered with, he wanted to impose his beliefs on them because he believed he was right and that they were wrong/unintelligent. Despite countless warnings from friends, family and locals, he decided that his own desires were more important than an entire people's way of life and made it his mission to force a new way of life onto them. John wasn't a victim, he was an assailant.
Absolutely fascinating video! Everyone should leave these people alone. The outside world has brought them nothing but misery. I would love more content like this. All the true crime channels are becoming so similar and covering the same cases, so it's really refreshing to hear cases like this. More historical crime content would be great too. Love your channel xxx
I think about this island more often than I'd like to admit. I find it fascinating that in this very moment there are people who live in a completely different way than the one we know. And we always talk of them as a group, but they're individual humans, with different personalities, and I sometimes like to imagine there must be a curious dreamer between them who wants to know who are the strangely dressed humans who have visited them, and what are those things flying in the sky, and who wonders about us, as much as we wonder about them.
@@sendmorerum8241 I doubt it. It would be all they know and their world. They have each other and unbreakable family bonds I can only imagine. They probably feel sorry for us.
Leave those people alone! Enough said! I love how this story was covered and ai would like to see more like them. This is educational and enlightening. Thank you for sharing this with us Adrian.
It’s crazy how humans throughout the years never got the hint that these people just wanted to be left alone… why was that so hard for people to understand lol
Thank you for sharing. This is interesting. I don't understand why people won't leave them alone. They don't want intruders and they have their own system of beliefs and obviously they don't need to be saved by someone else's religion. Look at what being "saved" has done with most indigenous populations on the planet, slavery, genocide, and destruction not to mention loss of languages, ancestry, and cultures.
John was an idiot for keep trying to be welcomed on the island, they did warn him 🥴. Maybe he should have investigated a little bit more before he entered the island who clearly didn’t want him there. Thank you for an exciting and different story. It’s great fun to learn more of the world 👍🏼
He did plenty of investigating, unfortunately hard facts and two near-death experiences weren't enough to overcome the mental illness of believing a magic skybeard will cast "Protection from Arrows" on him while trying to invade the "Last Stronghold of Satan".
Not to mention that these people undoubtedly have their own beliefs and shouldn’t be deprived of that by idiot bible thumpers. That was the backbone of colonialism.
Always baffles me why people feel they need to share their beliefs with others who never asked. Missionaries and Christians really annoy me. If no one comes to you stay in your lane and leave people alone. The Sentinelese people got it right. Take out annoying outsiders.
Like they think their ‘job’ is to convert others to their religion. But if they get confronted with people saying they’re not in the right religion, can guarantee that the missionary’s response will be similar to the Sentinelese
I agree, the Sentinalese should be left alone and not subjected to the western ways of the world. They have their own ways and that is their right. Yes please let us have some more documentaries like this, it was very interesting. Thanks for your channel.
I had heard about this case and wasn't surprised that the young man was attacked & undoubtedly killed. People have been warned to stay away. I would like to see cases like this from time to time.
This is honestly a really great and interesting change in pace for the channel. I love your true crime videos, and I would not be opposed to have more videos like this since they're very interesting. Awesome stuff as always!
John didn't have much common sense.... Thanks Adrian....Love how much you research these stories... This was a welcome change from the true crime genre..

You'd think that years and years seeing the damage of missionaries throughout the world at large would make people think twice about repeating their path
I am glad these people are protected. They’re not bothering anyone. They’re just trying to exist. Glad no major corps, oil or Christian’s have been able to touch them.

@@cdes1776 Yea, that's an excellent example of things we (as a species) have destroyed. Our planet is paying for it and there is still continuing destruction there too.
@@TylerG60 your ancestors(like everyone else's in modern civiliation) murdered, enslaved and raped multiple tribes into oblivion dude. It's not delusional bs.
I knew John years ago. He wanted to go into sports medicine. I took bio classes with his sister, who went on to med school. Completely normal family. I have no idea what happened. It’s still one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard of a human doing. I don’t know if undiagnosed depression drew him to religious martyrdom, if he was delusional, or what happened.
I have to believe he was suffering from some sort of mental disorder because how can someone be so brainwashed by their religion that they think they’re doing work of god by introducing a group of very vulnerable people to sickness and diseases he couldn’t possibly even begin to understand he was harboring. Don’t feel bad for this dude at all. He was selfish and thought he was above the law of a county that explicitly forbade all contact with Sentinelese. IMO, he got the death he deserved because if he didn’t die, numerous others who did not chose to take part in delusional fantasy about a fictional “devil” would have. He clearly had no respect for the Indian country or their laws, OR the very people he claimed he wanted to “save” by mass murdering them with the diseases he brought. So I say better him than the innocents who are just trying to go about their lives.
This is real life variation of the story about the man stuck on a boat waiting to be rescued who ended up drowning because he rejected all of of his potential rescuers because God was going to save him. Just stupid.
It’s hard to feel sorry for this dude. Hate he died but they made it known he wasn’t welcome and he kept coming back. He might of had good intentions but sometimes it’s better to leave things as they are
What good intentions? Forcing a tribe of people to do exactly what he wants, how he wants it, just to pacify his own overblown ego? If he wants to be a religious zealot, go right ahead. But he shouldnt force others to buy into his fervor.
I cant help but be incredibly envious of those people living on that beautiful island home. Living in equilibrium within their habitat and nature. Not being a slave to money. Truly free. Hopefully they will forever be left alone.
"Not being a slave to money"??? They work harder than the vast majority of people, actually, and die if they don't or it isn't enough. I have no idea what "freedom" they have that you don't have and can't have.
Oh yeah, when I heard about this on the news I was so fascinated that I looked up the island and ended down an interesting rabbit hole and watched some docos about the island. It's quite amazing how they've survived generation after generation by themselves but I guess there are a lot of tribes that are similar living deep in jungles.

I hadn't either until this happened, I watched and read up on it after he was suspected dead. I understand why they want to be left alone, they lost so many from disease when they did allow one group to get close. They should be left fully alone, we just needa respect it.
Even from a religious point of view, I would say that God gave him 2 clear signs and chances to live, it is written that you should not jump off a cliff and expect God to save you, that is to tempt God, so same way you wouldn't go to an infested river with crocs and expect not being eaten, he shouldn't have disregarded the natives free will to reject him and want to kill him. "If you go to a city and they reject you, clean off the dust of your sandals and move on". Even early Christians used to run and hide from persecution and death, not straightforwardly running towards death to be killed, martyrs were captured while running and hiding, they did not volunteer nor tempt God by putting themselves in a predicament where they could outwardly be easily murdered. Passion is something, delusion is a complete different thing.
Can't feel bad for him. This arrogance and colonialist mindset needed to be treated as a threat. No one is entitled to convert anyone to their religion.
Loved this Adrian. I have heard of this before but as always your approach and deep dive always delivers up bits I didn't know about. Like the island history.

It still sucks for his loved ones though. Religion is a disease and it never saves anyone.

Exactly, what a huge arrogant reli radical and we have to thank the Sentinalese for 'exiting' him back to his god.
Yeah, that was the moment I was like "WOW! Fuck this guy!".
We should leave them alone. They don't have natural immunity to the multiple diseases we have been exposed to.

@Blake Davis - We all deserve our privacy. Our governments should leave us the hell alone, just as they do this tribe. They are free. We are slaves.
I don’t. They brainwashed him.
They are brainwashed too.
“*Kill the intruder! Kill the intruder!*” “Yeah! *Kill the intruder!*”

I'm just glad we have a story that doesn't revolve around bdsm and sex workers for once
It IS true crime. The Sentinelese executed John Chau for trespassing.
I really appreciate when true crime content creators take a break from the darkness from true crime but continue to give us content. Not that this video wasn't dark, because it was but you get my meaning!! I hope anyway. Lol
What John did was truly a crime though.

I too thought John was overly presumptuous to say basically they were Satan's children and therefore evil.
